I went here for a friend's b-day and it brought her so much joy to have them celebrate her. I love that it's a little over-the-top, because some places don't do anything in disappointing fashion. Fries tasted like old grease and shrimp looked like it had been fried in old grease. We did order the crab bites, and they were delicious. My partner enjoyed his spaghetti with shrimp and mussels. He didn't get the mussels though. The waitress was great, the food didn't take too long, the music from the jazz band was enjoyable. When we got the bill, they added the gratuity. I patronized this restaurant on a Friday night which I quickly found out was reggae and I couldn't have been happier. The live music was a great touch to the ambiance. I ordered green mussels (which were a bit overcooked which made them rubbery, but not bad enough to send back), broccoli, and potatoes. The veggies were perfect in the garlic sauce. My raw oysters were good. Fried flounder basket with fries- my friend really enjoyed it. Lastly, Our drinks were really really good! My server was so attentive and great at her job. If I could give zero stars, I would. What happened at this location was shocking, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable. I went to Hook & Reel in Cheltenham/Wyncote and had one of the worst customer experiences I've ever had anywhere. I was seated at the bar waiting for my friend who was outside taking a quick phone call. I was quietly holding the chair for them. A "manager" named Lydia approached and, without any provocation, spoke to me in an extremely disrespectful and hostile way. In front of customers and staff, she made comments about my age and told me to "zip it." Called me the B-word. Her tone was aggressive and completely out of line for someone in a management role or period. I had not raised my voice, been rude, or done anything to warrant that kind of treatment. I asked to speak with the store manager, Richard, who told me he would look into it. Unfortunately, he never provided the owner's name, never followed up, and ignored the text messages I sent after he invited me to send them. There was no apology and no accountability from anyone in leadership. To make matters worse: Part of my food order never arrived. I was still charged a mandatory 15% gratuity despite the incident. There was no effort made to correct the missing food or address the situation. The staff seemed unable or unwilling to provide basic escalation information. This wasn't just poor service -- it was a complete breakdown of professionalism and customer care. I will be escalating this to every entity that has oversight of this franchise. Owners, state agencies and the Attorney General. Hoping Hook & Reel are in compliance. I'm sharing this so others are aware and so this location hopefully takes accountability for how customers are being treated. This is for anyone dining there. Look at your bill. The gratuity is not optional. I tipped my server in cash, filled out the slips stating no tip... just the price of the food and $0 for the tip. When I checked my account, the tip was charged!! I have no problem tipping, but I didn't want to tip her twice. I asked the manager what is the purpose of giving me the papers and filling out the totals. He said one is your copy and the other is for our records. Then asked..what if I wanted to give her a $100 tip. He said we would adjust so she could get paid. I said I put 0 for a tip, why wasn't it adjusted. He said the tip is PART OF THE PRICE!! And he can't adjust it if it says zero. I said what if I had an issue with the server and didn't want to tip, he said he would talk to them or fire them. I really liked the place, nice bands, atmosphere...but I'm not stupid. Pay your workers more...don't deceive your customers. And if there are signs explaining this , please put them out for all to see and maybe even have your servers mention it when they come to the table. This is especially important for those of us who prefer to tip cash to our servers. I noticed others have complained about this in the reviews. I just want people to be aware and not get surprises with their bill. read more

As many have stated, the hostess/cashier experience is equivalent to a ZERO but that's not allowed as a rating so I guess rounding up to a 1 is as accurate as it gets. No need to reiterate the horrible customer service associated to my visit. Just know that if you want an okay seafood boil with a an extra side of don't GAF attitude then you found your jawn. Ambiance was frantic, aside from the two hostesses who were more concerned with looking bored. The only saving grace was the Manager on Duty who actually took time to listen and also fix the issue, which was found to be a corporate mistake. Too bad she can't clone herself. It must be hard to manage people with zero experience in hospitality and with zero percent care towards quality customer service. Don't believe the 4 star average. My sister and I scheduled a lunch date and we both wanted to check this restaurant out. We arrived shortly before 1pm and there were only two other tables of people but it seemed like I blinked and the side near the bar had all but one table occupied. I ordered the coconut shrimp and the snow crab and headless shrimp boil. They have a lunch menu which is slightly less expensive than the dinner time menu but worth it either way. It appeared to be short staff as we only saw the young lady who took our orders working the bar and a gentleman delivering food to the tables as well as taking orders but this only caused a slight delay in our requests. It wasn't too noticeable. My coconut shrimp came out first but without the sweet chili dipping sauce. I called to the man working and he promptly brought two dipping sauces to our table. The shrimp were delicious. No complaints from me. I requested the seating garlic butter seasoning for my snow crab and shrimp boil which included 1 ear of corn and one small red skin potato. We both enjoyed our seafood so this was a successful visit. They lost a star due to having to request dipping sauces, napkins, and the delay in getting our bill after we had finished eating but nothing major to complain about. Cocktail: I had a drink and I can't remember what it was but it was good and packed a punch. Food: 1.Crawfish. They were a nice size and meaty. I selected the hook and reel special blend. It was good, too much seasoning and not enough sauce. 2. Fried Oysters. They were OK. They don't fry them hard enough. They needed some seasoning. 3. Fried shrimp were OK, They also needed seasoning. They were a nice size. I chose to have the sweet potato fries. They didn't taste like sweet potato. I wonder if they fried them in the French fry grease. My dining experience was ok. This is about service on Thursday June 12...restaurant closes at 10 pm we arrived about 9:25pm... the bar seating was filled so they cleaned a table to seat us. Once seated at about 9:39pm they immediately say to us the bar is closed and the kitchen closing in 10 mins. This all makes sense except for the fact that we shouldn't have been seated in the first place and the restaurant was still full of people including karaoke activity. Why close the bar but allow food orders and people can't have a drink while they wait. We should have been informed of cut off times upon arrival especially since we waited nearly 15 mins to be seated. I noticed that this place always has poor customer service when the restaurant is busier. read more

Food was okay. The corn was mushy and over cooked we did not eat it. My daughter got snow crabs which she said did not that very garlic even though she got the seasoned garlic sauce. Fried flounder basket was okay but got soggy in the box on the way home. My real disappointment came with the large clam boil. There were 12 clams that did not open so it was a huge waste of money. These delicious seafood devours come all the way from @hookandreel.usa . This establishment was very clean and welcoming. The staff was super helpful and the bartenders are super nice. The bathrooms are clean. While here, I ordered a half dozen of oysters that were really fresh. Next was the Cajun seafood boil with shrimp, crawfish, and mussels with the hook and reel sauce . The sauce was not spicy but just right. It was very delicious and I can definitely see myself revisiting this establishment in the near future. I really did enjoy my food, and my cocktail. My father and I ordered a bunch of king crab legs and some snow crab legs, and one piece of corn and two potatoes, they were decent. They had a Hook and Reel special spice blend which is basically all the spices and flavors put together, and as good as that seasoning and sauce was, I wish there was a little more to it, meaning a little bit more liquid to drench the seafood in the bag a little more, but that's just my preference. Do not go here. Their waiters will give you the wrong bill and refuse to correct your bill then when you return try to say you walked out on your entire bill. My partner and I were so humiliated by this experience and we went there every single week and tipped their staff very well. We felt like we were set up and targeted. Manager refuses to acknowledge that his team is doing sketchy things behind the scene. No one asked his staff to discount the bill in exchange for the good tips we leave. Very poor management and sketchy staff. Manager tried to have us repay for the things our card was originally swiped for plus the other items their bartender refused to fix on our bill. This spot has such great potential. It is in a highly accessible area. The drinks were great. The food was good. But the quality of service is why it received this rating. I came here for apps and drinks, was seated and had to wait for over 10 mins to be greeted. I placed my order and the server only came back after the food was dropped, there were no plates or utensils or napkins provided until requested from the manager (guy in shirt and tie noticeably different from server staff) No one ever checked up on us. We never got the water we ordered. It was fucking horrible. As a former server at Olive Garden there is no excuse unless you are serving and cooking. Y'all got to do better. read more

We all ordered crab boil combo with the Hook and Reel sauce. Our seafood barely had sauce on it and we had to ask for more. I literally showed our server and the manager how my mussels was bone dry with not a ounce of sauce on it. It seemed like they was running out of sauce and we got the last little bit. For the Hook & Reel sauce to be a combination of all the sauces is was super bland. The manager had the kitchen make a new batch which it still tasted the same. The manager did accommodate us for our issues with the food. Once I got home I got nauseous and vomited about 5 times in a bucket because I couldn't get out of the bed and that is why I am up at 4am writing a review and cleaning my carpet smh. Where do I start? This was the biggest waste of money I've spent on food. I ordered through DoorDash and the food arrived in a decent amount of time. I ordered the crab bites and a mini snow crab boil. The crab bites were mediocre and the remoulade sauce tasted off. But the worst part of the meal was mini boil. It came in a bag. Not a styrofoam box. So all the butter and garlic was just in a giant clear plastic bag. I've never seen anything like that before. The food was tasteless yet salty. I did not like it at all.
