It was 4 PM when we arrived, wasn't very busy, so we decided to sit outside on the deck rather than inside. Each table has its own umbrella, which was nice because it did drizzle a little while we were eating. Our waitress was very nice and greeted us shortly after we sat down. She took our drink order. My wife had an iced tea, and I ordered the Upside Down Mule, a refreshing mix of Tito's, pineapple purée, and ginger beer. The drink was okay, but even though it was described as having pineapple purée, I really couldn't taste any pineapple. The funny thing was when I went to pick up the mug by the handle, the handle came right off! I mentioned it to our waitress, and she offered to get me a new cup, but I was fine using the cup without the handle. For dinner, my wife ordered the 1/2-pound shrimp, Baltimore style--onions, potatoes, Old Bay and butter, with an extra $3 charge. I ordered the Jumbo Lump Crab Cake for $44, described as a fresh, no-filler jumbo lump crab cake. It came with fried Brussels sprouts and an additional side, which I chose as the Sweet Corn Summer Salad--charred sweet corn, confit tomato, fried black beans, roasted red pepper and cilantro over romaine lettuce, cotija cheese, creamy lime dressing and fried tortilla strips. I noticed that my salad had green peppers instead of red peppers. Since I cannot eat green peppers, I asked our waitress about it. She told me that was how it comes. However, the menu specifically says roasted red pepper, not green pepper. This is something the restaurant really needs to correct, either on the menu or with the kitchen, so someone doesn't order the dish expecting red peppers and end up with something they cannot eat. I caught it dyer my first bite eating. Then came another issue. My wife's dinner came out, but my meal wasn't ready. She waited for me, and I finally told her to go ahead and eat before her food got cold. About 10 minutes later, my meal finally came out. I don't understand why both meals didn't come out together. We weren't ordering crabs or something that would obviously come out when ready. We were ordering two regular dinner entrées, and the restaurant wasn't busy. Ten minutes is a long time between two meals, especially when one person is sitting there waiting while the other is eating. When my meal finally arrived, everything looked good, but I was disappointed with the size of the crab cake. For $44, and being listed as a dinner entrée rather than a sandwich, I expected a much larger crab cake. What makes this even more disappointing is that a picture of the dinner on their website shows two crab cakes, while the crab cake sandwiches pictured on the website were actually larger than the single crab cake I received with my dinner. I understand pictures can sometimes be for presentation purposes, but there was a pretty big difference between what I saw online and what was actually served. More importantly, the crab cake needed to be cooked a little longer. It should have had more browning on the outside not just shack some old bay on it, and the food needed to be hot. The crab cake was only warm, and even the Brussels sprouts were just lukewarm. The food itself had good flavor, but there were several things that need some cleaning up. $44 is a lot for a 4-ounce crab cake, especially when it isn't served hot and the Brussels sprouts are lukewarm. Overall, the meal was ok, but we expected more for the prices, we eat out a lot and don't mind paying for good food! The service was friendly, but the timing of the meals, the temperature of the food, the size of the crab cake, and the issue with the peppers are things the restaurant should address. And then charge 3% for a credit card fee and not even tell us. Would have been 4-5 stars without issues.

The decor from the outside looks rustic and authentic so I talked him into getting lunch at Abner's (we're new to the East coast and just HAD to try some crabs...). We were seated outside near a tributary and some trash cans that were swarming with flies and smelled much worse than low-tide. There was one other table of people outside near us. At this point, I revealed to my husband that on the East Coast, people straight up crack and eat whole crabs (this offended his Mid-Western sensibilities) and he ordered a crab-cake sandwich. I ordered 6 whole crabs and our waitress taught me how to smash them with a mallot,"remove their lungs", and eat the meat. I was feeling VERY cave-woman at this point. Husband's face? Priceless. The food was nothing special to me, it was a new experience to eat crabs this way but I could not get over the smell of the trash cans and the flies. About half-way through our meal, the most surreal and bizarre thing happened. A little boy and his mother brought out a karaoke machine, set it up about 4 feet from us, and the mother started belting into the microphone. Since it was far too loud for me to hear my own thoughts, let alone speak with my husband: I continued my crab-smashing/lung removing lunch in silence. The next thing we know, the little boy puts on a top-hat and starts singing and dancing to several Michael Jackson songs. The performance was complete with crotch-grabs and moon-walking. Everybody loves to talk about the waterfront spots in Calvert County... and yes, they're cute. But it's the neighborhood bars that really carry the culture. The ones you can pull up to, exhale, and actually enjoy yourself without the production. Thursdays is that spot. Let's start with the real star of the show: the southwest egg rolls. Baby... these things do not miss. Ever. I don't care how many times I say I'm going to "try something different"--I am absolutely ordering them again like it's my first time. Crispy, flavorful, and paired with that dipping sauce...period! Now let's talk about the small plates, because whoever came up with that concept was thinking about people like me--eyes big, stomach... not so much. It lets you live your best "I want a little bit of everything" life without regretting it halfway through. Genius. The drinks? Always on point. Strong enough to matter, smooth enough to enjoy. Well I go to this place a lot today will be my last day I go in sit at the bar go to get a beer and I get told that unless I buy a $50 square they can't serve me. I went for dinner with my husband. I should have known by the lack of people this may not be a good idea. we sat by the bar and I ordered one of my favorites Black and Blue burger... Lets just say it was way overcooked and the Blue Cheese tasted like it was freezer burned. I did not enjoy it at all. I did however enjoy the crab dip. I really like this place. The food is good, the drink selection is good, and the service is great. Servers are all friendly and helpful. Order usually doesn't take too long and they have tv's everywhere for you to watch sporting events. The bar area is also nice and somewhat spacious and the tenders are always friendly and helpful. Today, Wifey and I met family (there first time) for an early dinner, and everything was once again a 100. From the salad bar to desert is a homerun. Most folk say, "don't order beef, chicken or pork in a seafood restaurant", let me say I've had those as well and they are also top-notch and very delish, but the lump crabcake and cream of crab soup (with sherry and old bay if you desire) are the staple items. Lastly, if you go at the right time, there are homemade desserts that are super delish, however they don't last very long, so you might have to settle for the carrot cake or a slice of key lime. Highly recommended and you will not be disappointed!

Raspberry teas are sweet, little more raspberry sugar than tea though. 2 of 3 steaks were good cooked medium, the 3rd was like shoe leather and fatty, left it on the plate. The broccoli was cold, so I left it behind. Service is good, very nice people all around. The restroom is clean but needs soap refills. Service is also excellent considering the young staff there - they must have a great training program! The managers always stop by tables to make sure you're being looked after, they sure work hard! Great First Visit to Sunderland's New BBQ Spot…read more We heard about the new BBQ restaurant in Sunderland (Calvert County) on Facebook Friday, but we were out of town for the weekend. On our way home Sunday, my wife and I decided to stop in and give it a try. I had seen posts online saying people were waiting in line, so we were curious. When we pulled up, there wasn't a line outside, but once inside, there were a few people ahead of us ordering and some waiting on their food. While we waited, we overheard them call out that they were out of "The Hardesty" - a buttermilk fried pork chop sandwich. It must be popular because it sounded really good! The menu is impressive for a new place--11 sandwich options including: Ole Boy - Pulled pork shoulder Bossman - Chopped brisket (what I ordered) Balmer - Sliced charred beef with Vidalia onions & horseradish cream Dixie Chick - Pulled chicken Hardesty - Buttermilk fried pork chop on artisan white bread with sriracha mayo Bourdain - Grilled mortadella with provolone & dijonaise on brioche Italian Stallion - Salami, mortadella, ham, provolone, cherry peppers, lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo, vinaigrette South Philly - Sliced ribeye with sautéed onions & provolone Chi Town - Braised ribeye with peppers, mushrooms, onions, provolone, sweet jalapeños, lettuce, tomato & vinaigrette Wrap & Roll - Crispy chicken Caesar wrap SBF Wings - Plain, mild, or hot Sides included boardwalk fries, potato salad, pasta salad, baked beans, coleslaw, kale, and a cucumber salad. Right before we left, someone announced they only had two orders of boardwalk fries left--they're definitely getting hit with a lot of traffic and selling out fast. A couple notes: it seemed like some sandwiches may have been pre-prepped because on ours the Bossman was marked with abbreviations on the wrapping. Also, my wife had asked for vinaigrette on the side for her sub, but it was already on it--not a big deal, just something for the staff to tighten up as they settle in. There are a few tables inside that you can dine in and eat if you choose. Dont know if they offer sit down service. As for the food: My Bossman sandwich was excellent--tender, flavorful brisket. The pasta salad wasn't my favorite and wasn't very cold when we got home, so I put it in the fridge--hoping I'll enjoy it more chilled. My wife really liked her Italian Stallion--lots of meat and great flavor. Overall, we were impressed. Definitely Outstanding above another mobile BBQ spot in the area. We'll absolutely be back--and next time, I hope to try that Hardesty sandwich before it sells out!

The sandwiches were huge and was difficult to finish with the side. That's a good thing though! The side of fries were enough for two and then some. Maybe next time I will take half home.
