As far as bar (gastropub?) food, these were extremely respectable. The shrimp was cooked very well, and the use of greens and onions helped offer a balance and freshness. As a note, the space inside is small and intimate, and I've no complaints about the service. Final verdict: If you're looking for a unique cocktail, in a small and intimate space, the Elixir Lounge fits the bill. This area is where their HQ was and where most of them congregated in the same way NY's mafia hung out in Bensonhurst instead of Manhattan. The area has a lot of vintage architecture and history, despite being a little more run down and 'authentic' than the more touristy downtown. I went on a Friday around 3:30 p.m. Already, the back seating area was full of people, however there were a few bar seats left in the front. An hour later, it was packed. They start charging a $20 (cash only) cover at 7 p.m. for the live band. Before that was a jazz organist, who was pretty good and a master at working the crowd. They have draft beer ($6 - $10) ... bottled beer ... and booze. My Old Fashioned was made with muddled orange and cherries and only cost $12. A gin and tonic was $9. It can be tough to get a drink because the one bartender works the entire bar. Nice guy though. Don't come here expecting anything other than a dive bar ... there is nothing modern about this place. However, it has one of the best vintage vibes I've honestly ever encountered in a jazz bar. Don't miss out on seeing this bar and hearing some music, even if it means having to Uber or drive. It will be worth the trip. There aren't many places around like this anymore.

Not sure how that work in terms of the place being open and I don't know if they allow you to bring food into the place or not, I didn't think to ask. I do remember back in the day you could order from Papa Ray's (which closed some time ago), I will have to inquire about this as it would be nice to spend a leisurely nosh over drinks while sitting at the bar. Service was good. There were two ladies behind the bar. I think one was in training. Both were talkative but in a good way, and they took care of us. Because we were there at 4ish, it was pretty quiet and I did not mind that. The Doctor ended up joining us after completing his errands and we had a great time. I'm the type guy of when you say Hookah bar i think a very relaxing and a chillin time. where i can kick back and chill with my buddies. i like a place that is clean and classy and has options of a variety of flavors. The Hookah Joint Lounge is newly renovated with comfortable couch's that gives my buddies and i the real hometown Chicago feel. When we want some some real entertainment not my buddy's girlfriend who thinks she funny, the comedy shows are so creative and funny, it evens makes me be on the floor with laughter. the owner johnny knows too much about hookah flavors and mixes are the best. He more than happy to answer any of questions. He really makes you feel that you are only customer there even though of the so many options and with all my buddies he some how always comes up with a new blend. i don't know how he does i couldn't listen to my buddies for that long. in any case,thanks Johnny making Hookah joint lounge so relaxing to smoke hookah a woohoo! as good as it read more

I can honestly say if anyone is looking for a great and relaxing time this is the place to be. The service is absolutely remarkable, they make you feel as if your at home. The hookahs are packed unbelievably, you can chill on them for 45min. - hour the tobacco is top quality, the flavor actually lasts unlike all other places , and lastly i want to stress the coals, these are non-chemical enhanced and believe it or not healthier than any other coals on the market. The atmosphere at the Hookah Joint Lounge is just great and believe me once you step foot in here you'll never find yourself going any where else. I have been coming to the lounge for the last 2 months. This place offers a wide selection of tobacco for hookah. The hookahs are new and very well maintained. They also offer a wide selection of soft drinks. They allow BYOB!!! I always bring a bottle of wine to drink with my hookah which makes my visit much more enjoyable and relaxing. The ambiance is very relaxing and friendly. The couches are new and very comfortable. The decor is very pleasant. The staff is very attentive to the customers needs. The also have a jukebox with a wide selection of music. And the best of all they have free Wifi. I highly recommend the lounge for an evening of fun and relaxation!!! read more

Patrons likely vary depending on what music's playing; this night was shoegaze/goth and the multi-generational crowd looked like fans of those genres. We ended up staying for the night's live show, which was a lineup of four bands (one touring and three local, I think) for a very reasonable price. We could take our drinks from the bar into the venue and/or order more in the lounge space. I wasn't alone, but would've felt safe and comfortable on my own there. The venue's an elevated stage with two sets of steps. There doesn't appear to be any back room; gear and cases were piled in an alcove. The sound and lights were good. Bathrooms were just fine. No seats in the venue, but it's cool to come and go to hang out in the lounge or bar. Cobra Lounge has a small, well-lit parking lot and there's plenty of street parking available too.

Drinks were a decent price. Food looked good but I didn't order anything. They do not accept tap to…read morepay and recommend leaving a card for an open tab. The show space was nicely ventilated. The bathrooms were okay, the stall doors were huge which was really nice.
