Beware of the Automatic Gratuity We stopped at Hook'd USVI during our visit to St. Thomas. The location is great, the marina views are nice, and the food was okay. We ordered the Fish Tacos, Jerk Smashed Burger, and a Frozen Rum Runner. What future customers need to know is that Hook'd automatically added a 20% gratuity to our bill, even though we were not a large party. Then, at the bottom of the receipt, they included another tip guide suggesting 18%, 20%, and 22% tips. In my opinion, this is misleading. Many people are used to adding a tip when they receive the receipt and may not notice that a 20% gratuity has already been added. It's easy to accidentally tip twice. I have absolutely no issue rewarding good service, but restaurants should be upfront and transparent when gratuity is automatically included. Customers shouldn't have to carefully inspect the bill to avoid paying an extra 20% on top of an already-added 20%. The food was decent, the atmosphere was pleasant, but the billing practice left a bad impression. Before you sign your check, review it carefully and make sure you know exactly what has already been added. Bottom line: Decent food, nice location, but check your receipt closely. The automatic 20% gratuity and additional tip suggestions can easily lead to double tipping if you're not paying attention. While touring the USVI I had the pleasure of trying several different types of places and Hook'd is an was an absolute pleasure of mine. I ended up showing up early so I was only able to see and try the breakfast menu and drinks, so those are the only items I can rate Ambiance: 5 stars. It's an open floor plan right on the dock. We were able to sit right next to the water and get some fresh air. The place isn't too loud, but very inviting. They have a bottomless mimosa option and this place feels like it would be a great brunch vibe Service: 4 stars. Staff was super nice and waitress was helpful in regards of what to order. There was an issue with steak being overcooked and they were able to replace it, but it did take taking to 3 different people, which I thought was weird Drinks: 3.5 stars. The Rum away with me was absolutely wonderful, but the White Russian was not good at all Food : 4.5 stars Steak and eggs was fantastic. We had to get the steak recooked, but when it was made well, it was a top shelf steak. Crab cakes: also would recommend! No notes here Breakfast burger:,really loved the fact that the patty was smashed. I was worried that there was too much going on but everything combined quite nicely. We were staying on Sapphire Beach and decided to check out Red Hook for dinner and found Hook'd. Parking is free and very easy next door in the parking garage. We sat outside-unfortunately it was raining but I can see why people would come here on sunny days! Our dinner was good-I had fish tacos which were delicious and the fish pieces were very large. I subbed out fries for a salad-which was the largest side salad I have ever gotten in any restaurant! The highlight of the night was the Sangria-wow was that delicious! Our server was very friendly. One negative, our receipt had already included gratuity and when they handed me receipt, there was another blank line asking for gratuity (again!) and showing % options. This is very deceiving. Read carefully so you don't accidentally double tip! Oh, and there is an additional 3.5% non cash convenience fee. Thank you! read more

Somehow, I walked out of here spending 115. Not sure how that happened. Let me explain how I think it happened. We ordered a virgin piña colada, which cost $15. That feels excessive and should be cheaper if virgin. We also asked for the bush record cheesecake, which was really tasty and I loved it, but for some reason, they brought us two and we didn't ask for multiple. A $12 dessert then became $24. The crabcake entrée was my favorite thing for sure. The fries are fantastic. The crabcake is very fun to try. No complaints. That plate was a 5. The tuna pasta was interesting to try. Felt like an Asian fusion dish. I'd complain that there weren't enough noodles, and the yellowtail tuna wasn't that flavorful and very forgettable. Hard to flag down servers and get the check or order in the next thing. We sat at a high raised table by the fence and acute Kat came up to us. See the boat in the harbor. That was fun. This place was so good and had a beautiful outdoor seating area where we enjoyed our meal. We started with the popcorn shrimp, which was a great appetizer. For my main dish, I ordered the fish tacos, and they were some of the best I've ever had. The person I was with got the crab cake and said it was really tasty as well. Wonderful breakfast spot with a beautiful waterfront view. Our waiter was super friendly and brought over waters immediately, took and delivered our orders promptly. I had the pork belly Benedict and my husband had the pork belly biscuits and gravy. Both were really good. His gray came with actual shredded pork which was a nice surprise. My pork belly were perfect. I ended up eating it all and leaving parts of uneaten eggs alone because I was getting full but didn't want to waste a perfectly made pork belly. We enjoyed the Daily Catch Fish dinner here and their really great strawberry margaritas. It was a super relaxed vibe and our server, Dougie Fresh, was very attentive and super personable. The wahoo and red snapper fish dinners were cooked perfectly with light blackened seasoning and our choice of topping and sides. The onion rings were totally amazing as were the mashed potatoes and side salad. We started with the shrimp cocktail that was a little waterlogged to be honest but tasted okay. My favorite breakfast in St Thomas! My only regret is I only went once! I would highly recommend this spot as a breakfast spot before a day on the ferry to St John. It is conveniently located next to the ferry port and you can easily walk over to catch the boat. They are open for lunch and dinner as well and im sure that food is equally fantastic as breakfast. The portions are large, so if you're not super hungry I recommend sharing. I got the breakfast sandwich special that was a grilled cheese with breakfast meats and eggs. Legit phenomenal. The breakfast potatoes are also off the charts. Seriously come hungry. No one in my group was disappointed with their meals and we cleaned the plates! Don't be alarmed by the occasional chicken pecking around, they are harmless. The staff is also fantastic, friendly and down to earth. Can't wait to come back! read more

We were in the area doing the tourist thing shopping... we had a few options but I prefer local by the waterfront which hooked us so we tried it....Thank goodness we did burger wasn't special the mahi-mahi bites were good ...their lobster special was one of the best lobsters I've had bar none my other half and I devoured it...I can never finish a meal and save I'm sure was particularly happy with this one . Great food and service! My husband had the pork belly tacos, and I had the fish and chips. It's nice to try some different fish other than plan ole cod. Their fish n chips use Swai, I've never heard of that fish before lol. The tacos were loaded. There is only two, but you will be full after them. Their slaw is great too. Most places on main land make slaw way too saucy and the cabbage is wilted, but theirs tasted freshly made. Both waiters were very friendly and easy to chat with. We sat right next to the water on the marina. It was at night, so I can't attest to how pretty it looks, but the gentle crashing waves sure sounded nice. Place so nice we came here twice! The ambiance was very laid back and relaxed, which is what we were looking for. We stopped at this location in Red Hook before we checked into our Airbnb. Both visits we sat at the bar and such great conversation with the staff. They were so kind and welcoming, giving us advice about the island and affordable grocery stores nearby. We loved listening to their stories of how they ended up there. Our first visit we ordered a few drinks and some mahi bites. The bites were delicious and the peanut sauce was even better. Our second visit, we came for dinner. My husband ordered the fish and chips and I ordered the tacos. He demolished the fish and chips, so my assumption was that it was good. The tacos were so so and not my favorite, which is why I gave them four stars. I do recommend coming here if you're near Red Hook! read more

We loved this place when we were here. We were staying at the Ritz, but it was so nice to get off property and come to a chill spot with great food, really good service, Kyle was amazing both days we were here, and a marina view. Shopping is close by, it was an eight dollar per person, taxi ride from the hotel, and the mimosas were flowing! I will definitely be back. read more

The food is from good to very good. The prices are reasonable for St. Thomas. The pork belly and plantain appetizer is quite good. They have some interesting drinks. Do try the sangria which uses a Malbec as a base. The fish tacos are very good. The lobster is a bit tough but nicely seasoned. The view from the restaurant is beautiful, overlooking a marina with blue Caribbean waters. We sat outside where the gentle breeze made for a very comfortable environment. We were also visited by salamanders, roosters and chickens, and one of many cats that Patrol for a free meal. We took a lot of photos and enjoyed ourselves. The problem we had was with the service. The gentleman was certainly friendly enough, very personable. But he waited until we studied the menu and ordered exactly what we wanted before advising us they were out of those choices. He highly recommended the seafood soup. I ordered it. Then he advised that they were out of it. Same with the red snapper. And then I ordered the fish of the day special. He said the fish of the day had two choices, Maui and lobster. I ordered the lobster and picked two of the sides that came with the special of the day and I asked him about the choice of two sauces that come with the special and he recommended the clarified butter for the lobster but he would bring over a mango salsa on the side at no charge. When the bill came, it was about $30 more than it should've been and the guy explained that the lobster had nothing to do with the fish special of the day, and he charged me for the two sides that were supposed to come with the fish of the day, and he even charged me for the side of salsa. When I reminded him that he said the salsa would be on the house, he said can't do it, they charge for everything here. I was with my wife on vacation so I wasn't going to make more of it than I already did. I paid the $30 too much and tipped uncharacteristically lightly. read more
