Ok I'll admit it, I have an unhealthy obsession with this place. I don't know a thing about feng shui but I'm willing to guess this place has high marks. It is open and airy unlike any other coffee shop I've been in. Feeling a cool breeze from the outside while you tap away at your technology is something you can't put a price on. The booths are extra large and the benches have cushions....and many outlets. Oh the outlet heaven I find myself in when I come to Hooked on Colfax! The people here are nice, the music is perfect, and the drinks splendid. You can get sugar free Bhakti chai (Hello spice!) and a variety of DF options abound -- almond/rice/soy. Decisions! Their tea selection is also extensive and I dare you to try a cambric with lavendar syrup mixed in. Heaven I tell you. Things I must try now that I'm a groupie... Everyday happy hour with 20% off beer and wine. Green smoothie deliciousness and savory home made scones that make my mouth water thinking about them. read more

I moved to the neighborhood in 2007 and would walk to Hooked every Sunday at 7:05. I got coffees and pastries..always tipping $2. After three months I realized that I was never greeted as a familiar face, in fact, there was seldom a welcoming hello. I stopped going and did not for many years. I went today, hoping for change. As it became my turn the countergirl just looked at me, no hello or greeting. I did notice, however, that the younger people approaching got a very bright hello. My 12 oz americano/with room reminded me of hot water with the cream I added. I took it back, was offered a 'fix' but I opted to return for my money back. It was great to find a good, local coffee shop in the neighborhood! I have been meaning to get to Hooked for a while, and finally made it in recently. I had a great mocha made with ancho chilis and cinnamon. Definitely hit the spot, and helped wipe away the effects of a long night before. The service was very personable and friendly, they were playing good music and had plenty of board games to keep us busy while enjoying our coffee. I noticed that they did have a few food options, although I did not try them. They had a case of baked goods, and a sign for breakfast burritos that I will be sampling on my next visit! read more

Right off the bat this place is winning me over. I'm all about coffee shops with multiple seating options and I LOVE WORKING IN BOOTHS. But what makes this even better is that the booths are nearly 6 feet tall so they provide enough privacy to have a meeting with minimal distraction. Also They are huge so you could easily share without feeling like your space is being infringed upon. There are also long tall bar style tables and bistro tables on the other side. I'm not sure how I never came here before today. As for my coffee, it's better than average but one thing that won me over is that I ordered an iced drink and it actually came with more coffee than ice which is generally not the case unless you ask, which I always forget to do. All that being said, I def recommend. :) read more

My internal coffee shop hipster screamed with glee upon finding this little gem on Colfax. This kinda coffee shop is the kind that easily hooks me. Like if I was a fish, Hooked on Colfax would be the shiniest and most appetizing lure ever and I'd just succumb to being reeled in. Coffee here is pretty darn delicious. I mean, it's just coffee, but at least here you can tell it was made right and it's not just caffeinated dirty water. I like their baked goods as well too. If I'm in a snacking mood, I like getting one of their cookies. They are so thick. Like a meal all in it's own. Yummy too. Like everything a cookie should be. My personal favorite thing to do here is to come here early and get work done, then hit up the Bluebird Theater later in the afternoon for those concerts. Perfect location to do just that. I've been a regular at Hooked on Colfax for almost five years. There are a multitude of reasons I'd recommend it, but it basically comes down to two things: the drinks and the community. They serve Pablo's coffee - 'nuff said. But they also whip up great smoothies and serve an incredible selection of local beers and choice wine. And if you're hungry, there's an admirable spread of pastries, samosas, quiche and burritos. All are excellent. The baristas at Hooked are top-notch. They care about you and they care about your drink. You're not going to get handled by corporate gloves. What you will get is great service from a friendly, knowledgeable human being. I can't say I've ever had a bad experience with anyone who works there. On top of that, Hooked has a beautiful space (elegant bamboo flooring and a lighted staircase are just a few highlights) that nurtures a wonderful sense of community. There's always a great mix of folks nestled in, and the high number of regulars speaks to a consistent level of quality and care. And I'm almost hesitant to mention the back patio, if only because it remains one of the greatest hidden gems on East Colfax. Overall, I can't recommend Hooked enough. Great drinks/food, great people and a great environment. It's an incredible example of how a small business can become the heart of a community. read more

Ooohhhh, I'm hooked!! Came for a quick fix of caffeine after yoga this morning. Wanda C recommended the lavender vanilla latte, and I'm so glad I took her advice! We also shared a blueberry lemon scone while we chatted. Lovely interior with a mix of booths and community tables. My latte (with skim milk) was creamy and delicious. Look, we understand that it is important to support independent businesses but the employees are less than friendly (as opposed to the owners who nice enough.) And that makes a difference to many, including us. Consider also that Hooked on Colfax charges $3.19 for a small Americano! That is by far, the most expensive of any local coffee shop independent or, a chain like Starbucks ($2.38). (And they serve it with a scowl!) Novo, Pablos, Peets, and Corvus are alternate coffee shops in the Denver metro area which offer excellent coffees and espresso at a more reasonable price. In summation, we definitely are not "Hooked" on Colfax. We suggest that you consider patronizing another shop for your coffee experience. read more

LOL To the name Hooked on Colfax which is a funny play on words for those who know the reputation of this street. Their coffee is awesome! lots of friendly people that work there and for bonus points, they played the Fugee's when I was last there. I Honestly love their coffee, I think ill go there today! Before a couple weeks ago, I would have rated this no higher than three and half stars for one reason only: the seating. Hallelujah my prayers were answered and they made an extension with more seating AND a bloody Mary bar on sundays for your homework doing pleasure!! Hooked on cool fax is my absolute number one work space for doing my homework. It is never too loud, they have great friendly staff, and the lighting keeps me focused and awake. The new bloody Mary bar is to die for. They give you the booze, and you build the bloody Mary of your dreams. Anything from pickles and okra, to tobacco and chalula to spice it up. They also offer beer and wine, and from 5 to 7 they have a happy hour with some pretty good deals. My verdict?? Win...,you can't go wrong with hooked on colfax!! read more

I normally LOVE the hot chocolate here. My boyfriend and I waited 15 minutes for a hot chocolate on a Saturday & they didn't taste chocolately at all. When I took them back and asked to beef them up the 1 overwhelmed barista said she put plenty of chocolate in them but then dumped more in. I took used a straw to mix them & she said "why waist a plastic straw to mix it" and only then offered a metal spoon. Granted the place was packed & she was the only one behind the counter, but the whole experience doesn't make me excited to go back. If/when my craving for the delicious hot chocolate brings me back, I'll definitely go at a less busy time. read more

I backed Hooked on Colfax on Kickstarter for their expansion. Well done; definitely more space. Good: Bruschetta, unique drink offerings, space. Could be improved: Service & food offerings asides from Happy Hour/evening. The times I've come to Hooked on Colfax, I've had to wait in line for a long time; and this is even when there's nobody else in line and the place is dead. Service here is very very slow. I've waited "forever" to be served my drink (oftentimes just a simple coffee!). I'd like to say, "Oh, each drink is individually handcrafted," but hey, HOC is not serving Blue Bottle Coffee, which is individually dripped coffee per cup. No, sir. Also, the food offering is paltry. Yes, in the morning, you can get a breakfast burrito (depending on availability); yes, you can get homemade pastries any time of the day. And yes, you can get bruschetta and other fun dishes for Happy Hour and evening onward. But what about lunch? Does HOC think that perhaps we all just want to walk down to Denbisco or Fat Sully's for that? Come on now. Don't want to lose business at the lunch hour.... As a Kickstarter backer in HOC, I'd like to see more improvements as listed above. Service should already be stapled down. This place is the best way to escape the hustle and bustle of the city streets. The staff is always friendly, and the drinks are reasonably priced. They have free wifi, an abundance of power outlets, and a couple of cozy basement spaces that are perfect for hosting small group meetings or hanging in the quiet alone. The best experience with customer service I've had in quite a while. I was making a tiramisu which called for a cup of espresso. I don't know what a cup of espresso looks like so I ordered 4 shots of espresso like an idiot. The kick ass barista said, "That will be 1.79$." I looked at her and said, "That can't be right." She looked at me very patiently and said, "Well this is what a shot of espresso costs..." Then I realized she thought I was complaining about the price, when I thought the price was way too low for what I wanted. Well when I told her what I needed was a cup of espresso to make my dessert, she hooked me up with a cup of espresso. While this was going on a line of six people formed behind me. And I was looking like the jackass at the front of the line we all hate. Anyway, she handled it like a pro, I got what I needed, and everyone behind me looked really happy. The internet is as fast as everyone reports. I was downloading at over 3 mb/s tonight. They have two routers so if one isnt reaching you for some reason the other should. Study-topia. This place is ideal for studying because they have plenty of outlets & seating. They have a basement that's away from all the hustle & bustle of the front counter that makes for a great study place. My medium drip coffee tasted nice & acidic. You get 1 free refill (sweet!). I am super excited because I re-discovered a song while here (Shooting Stars Bag Raiders) & I've been excited ever since. There is limited street parking. The music here is kind of @ a loud volume but you can escape it a bit in the basement if you need to. I'll probably try one of their tea lattes the next time I come. read more

I've been here a number of times now. First, I would get a cupcake at Lovely Confection (now Church of Cupcakes) and then run across Colfax to Hooked to get a coffee. Now that I workout at Endorphin (across the street or up the street), I stop in for a java shot or a a breakfast pastry. My most recent visit, after a hard workout, I stopped in and picked up a piece of delicious quiche and a latte. Always friendly service, free wifi and great drinks. I even came in once for a Yelp event last year and the credit card machine was down at Happy Hour and the barista/server gave me my glass of wine for free, since all I had was credit and no cash. They are A-OK with me. I neglected to mention that Hooked has expanded. In addition to having a space downstairs and a patio at the back, they have now taken over the space next door to them, for even more seating. Plenty of jacks available if you've brought a laptop and in the evenings, after 5, the space next door serves some small plates too. Hooray for Hooked on Colfax! Lastly, if you're in the mood for something different, try a lavender vanilla latte. Splendid! read more

An awesome place to study in Denver! I came here on a Thursday around 4 pm and found a booth to work in. The atmosphere here is really chill and the noise level is average for a coffee shop. One of my overall favorite places to sit and get work done. They don't have much for food, which would be my only complaint, but they have breakfast burritos and baked goods, which holds me over til I walk next door to one of the wonderful restaurants located next door. The drinks are excellent, and by far are my favorite on Colfax. Their staff is very friendly and they have a great sense of humor. They're usually able to recommend a good drink for the day. Hooked on Colfax is my favorite coffee place in town. The coffee is delicious, the baked goods are beyond yummy and Scott and Malissa (the owners) are the best! This is a great neighborhood place. The atmosphere is cozy, with funky copper-covered tables and little nooks. The (free) basement meeting space includes a huge boardroom-style table, comfy couches and cool lighting. It's a hidden gem. They also take the MyColfax card (www.mycolfax.com) that gets you discounts on coffee. They have art openings at least once a month and show independent films in the basement. Hooked has also gone green. Their cups are made out of corn and are compostable. When you fill up one of their frequent drinker cards, you get a free florescent light bulb! A great place! read more

On matters related to the consumption of the coffee: Ordered: double espresso. It was...reasonable. Some interesting flavors, but it was almost too bitter. I can never tell if it's the beans, or if they took much of the end of the drip, or what. Next time I'll try the cappuccino or French press (more on that below) On matters related not directly to the drinking of espresso: I rode past it a couple times because THEY DON'T HAVE AN EXTERIOR SIGN. Maybe it's a budget thing? Just get some plywood and spray paint. Display some adaptability. You can't really crawl along on Colfax trying to find a storefront unless you like getting hit by cars, or if you're driving your Humvee. I don't really understand why they offer drip AND French press. French press is better than drip, but it isn't magic or even difficult to make. If you're got French press, why are you serving drip? And why is the smallest size 16oz? Buy another (smaller) press. They are $25. Or just brew it 20oz at a time and put it in the carafe and forgo drip. Summary: it's next to Stella's and the bike shop on the north side of the Colfax. read more

Their menu is pretty limited but they also serve beer from various local places around town and they have very unique iced teas like black tea with passion fruit and hibiscus. I want to come back and study here because there seems to be alot of seating. There is also ample street parking when I went but granted I did go on a monday so it shouldn't be crowded. read more

The wifi works, the coffee is tasty, and the service friendly. All of the indoor seating was taken up by people working or studying, so outside to the front patio it was. Not quite as conducive to getting work done, but fortunately the weather was beautiful. Do note that the chai has quite a bit of spice to it. The best part is the coxy space in the basement and the comfortable leather couches. Located on a busy Colfax Ave, this is a fantastic, Seattle-esque coffee shop in Denver. It's a 5-10 minute drive from downtown, and a walk from city park. Perfect for stopping in for an iced coffee before taking a walk around city park. It's also great for doing hours of studying before taking a break and going next door to grab cheap pizza at the Atomic Cowboy. Although the shop is run by hipsters, the atmosphere is very friendly and the clients are all kinds of people coming in to read, to write, study, or catch up with friends. Their almond milk chai is delicious (but pricier than most other coffee shops). Sunny space on the first floor with many tables, a patio just outside, and also a downstairs lounge with couches, a tv, and more tables. There's lots of space here, but it gets crowded pretty quickly. Be prepared to share a table with a stranger. read more
