    Tempura California
    Charlie L.

Arrived here with a friend mid-afternoon because we were looking for a snack and this place called to us while searching Yelp for ideas. So glad we stopped by! We had salmon nigiri (super fresh & tender), the tempura California roll (delicious), and the garlic edamame (too spicy for my friend so I ate most of it). The vibe was subdued, but again it was mid-afternoon. Service was competent and polite. Will definitely be back to this location.

We have been coming here frequently for years! You can dress up or down. Very fast service. They have a very large menu and everything is delicious! Also there are changing tables in both the men and woman's bathrooms. We have recently brought our newborns with us and there is room for our strollers. Parking lot always has parking. Also have door dashed this place and it's great as well

Carlsbad sushi spot, Hooked on Sushi, is serving sushi, sashimi, nigiri, house/hand rolls, and Japanese noodles and entrees (teriyaki, katsu, curry). Loved the sushi we had for dinner, it was all super fresh & delicious! The TNT roll was so good it had crispy fried onions strings on the top & the lemon roll we got was also really good the tartness to each bite was my favorite! Very cool relaxed vibe Inside and the service was fast & friendly.

Wyatt, my now nineteen-year-old, and I have three-hundred and forty check-ins and have posted fifteen hundred and thirty pictures. besides the five dishes whose photos I did post, tonight, we also had a samurai roll, toro sashimi, and amaebi and didn't get pictures of any of them. it's an understatement to say we're regulars. been four years since I last updated my review and since we keep going back, you can reasonably assume HOOKED ON SUSHI is still our usual spot for American-style sushi. Wyatt nearly always gets SALMON and TUNA sashimi and we nearly always share one of my favorite guilty pleasures, JALAPEÑO POPPERS (jalapeños stuffed with shrimp, spicy krab, and cream cheese, tempura fried with spicy mayo and eel sauce). recently they freshened their menu with lots of new stuff like: WILDCUT CARPACCIO (seared bluefin tuna, jalapeno, white onion, cilantro, avocado, soy mustard, spicy pineapple, and togarashi). ALOHA DELIGHT (in: tuna, yellowtail, salmon, spicy krab, tempura shrimp, soy paper. out: shrimp, avocado, lemon slices, pineapple sauce) the TORO roll (in: avocado, spicy tuna, and cucumber. out: toro, tobiko, ikura, and fresh wasabi) and the PINEAPPLE CHICKEN roll (tempura-fried roll in: sushi rice and grilled chicken. out: pineapple, spicy mayo, and sriracha). service is solid. food is solid. and we keep coming back. highly recommended.

Came here during lunch and was able to pick what table I wanted to sit at which was nice. Was able to get service very quick which during lunch can be very helpful with limited with time. I got their sushi combo from the lunch menu and it was perfect. The soup was hot, the salad was crispy, and the sushi was made quickly. Everything was fresh and definitely would recommend to others. Plenty of parking.

This is my first time at Hooked on Sushi. We came on a Saturday night, and were seated right away. It was pretty busy inside. It's very casual inside. We came after our workout, and didn't feel too under dressed. The ambiance of the restaurant is great. I love the darker atmosphere and the decor. It's very nice. The sushi was up to par. It was definitely good but it was nothing out of the ordinary for a sushi restaurant. It was good. Next time I will try different specialty rolls and maybe they will be better. But the food was good. The broth from the ramen was some of the best I've ever had. It was excellent. The service was only okay. Our original waitress didn't come back to take our order, so another waitress came and asked if we were able to place our order, so we placed it with her. She ended up being the one serving us more often than our actual designated waitress, who only came to check up on us once during our visit. The other waitress came a couple more times than that. So the service was subpar, and because of this we didn't feel a tip was deserved. I'll likely be coming back in the future for the food and the ambiance, and hopefully the service is better next time!

Cool little spot in a strip mall and pleasantly impressed with all the variety of sushi. Staff was great and very patient with us newcomers and even when they got slammed with customers their service was on point.

So, we never really put in the details for our last review a month or so ago. We're a 90 minute commute away from Hooked on Sushi. This is our 2nd visit. We made this a culinary repeat point of interest to visit on a day trip. We love the food. The service is excellent and the location is perfect. It going to Legoland, this is perfectly convenient. If coming to and from San Diego up and down south or north from Los Angeles, Santa Monica, LAX, South Bay Beach Cities, Long Beach, Irvine, Orange County, San Juan Capistrano, Camp Pennington, San Clemente, Oceanside and all points in-between that brings you near Carlsbad... I recommend this place. The kids meal Bento Box is perfect for kids too!

This used to be one of our favorite stops for sushi, but it seems to have changed a lot and gone downhill, maybe because of new management? When you walk in, there used to be a sushi bar you can sit at and watch sushi being made, that is no longer there, just extra tables. The prices have gone way up and we questioned the quality and freshness of some of the items on the menu. We ordered the special they were advertising outside, the aloha delight roll, the red line and their chicken katsu dinner that came with miso soup, salad and edamame. While the aloha roll was delicious, it had a fishy taste to it as did the red line roll. Their rolls never used to have that fishy taste. The server wasn't great, we could barely understand her, she was slow, and disappeared for long periods of time, it wasn't very busy when we were there. It took way to long just to get a pitcher of water We weren't impressed with the food or service here, we probably won't be back.

This was my first time at Hooked on Sushi, but I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the sashimi combo, which came with two pieces each of salmon, tuna, and albacore sashimi along with a spicy tuna roll. The combo also came with miso soup and a salad for appetizers. The salad dressing in particular was very flavorful and umami. The sashimi tasted pretty fresh and the combo overall was a large portion of food. Possibly shareable with an additional appetizer. The service was quick and friendly, and the ambiance was nice and casual. Perfect for a casual sushi date. I would definitely recommend trying this place out!

Surprisingly, it was busy on a Wednesday night. I walked in and was seated right away, but I noticed people coming and going as well as uber eats and door dash orders getting picked up. The hostesses were very attentive and kept the flow going. I was immediately offered the opportunity to order drinks. The menu had lots of pictures which is super helpful when it came to deciding to order. There is definitely the wide variety of appetizers, entrees, specialty rolls, hand rolls, and ramen. I wanted something a bit in the lighter side, but I couldn't decide because all of the pics looked so good. Asked my waitress, Jellina, and was super helpful. Appreciated the recs, and I ultimately went with the Carlsbad roll with the sunset carpaccio appetizer. She recommended the Carlsbad Lagoon, but I was afraid that since the carpaccio dish was already on the citrus spectrum, I didn't want to overdo it. I think in hindsight, I should have just gone for it. The navy blue decor definitely gives off the at sea vibe. The music was 80s-90s soft rock. The presentation of the food was fabulous and on point. The flavors of the carpaccio was great. I think it would have been even more exquisite if the pineapple was fresh, rather than canned. As far as the Carlsbad roll went, it was good, not great. The eel sauce on top was the only flavor on the roll, which is why I feel I could have went for the Carlsbad Lagoon and not felt that the flavors would be too overpowering. I was just worried that my taste palate would only be one sided tonight. All in all, everything was great. I would return for another meal. This is a great spot to have with groups as the restaurant is very spacious.

It's hard to put my finger on it, but something about the sushi here (especially when paired with a little bit of soy sauce) just had an excellent taste that I'm not sure I've had anywhere else. This time I ordered the agedashi tofu, ikura nigiri, and a dragon roll. The agedashi tofu was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, soaking up that savory broth so well. The ikura nigiri was super fresh -- bright, briny, and buttery in that way that just pops when you bite into it. And the dragon roll? So good. Creamy, flavorful, and balanced -- not overly sauced, just done right. My boyfriend got the Alaskan roll and the Korean ramen, and both were great. The ramen was comforting and flavorful, and the Alaskan roll was fresh and satisfying. Also, our server is always hilarious. It makes the whole experience even better when you're laughing throughout dinner. Between the consistently good food and the friendly, funny service, it's easy to see why we keep coming back. Waraii will always be one of our go-to spots in Vista.

For some of the best ramen that Oceanside has to offer, I recommend The Wu Lan Ramen located in the Plaza Del Oro Shopping Center, just south of the 76 Hwy. It's hidden behind the 24 Hour Fitness and CVS. The plaza has limited parking, but it isn't typically too crowded and you should be able to find parking in front of this family-owned ramen restaurant. They have a quaint and trendy ambiance and they placed a lot of care into their anime murals, which lends to a "whimsical" vibe. It's a nice blend of traditional elements & colors and modern (kawaii) accents. The interior is also spacious and has great seating for groups and is also good for couples too. Enjoy table seating or better-yet at their bar seating and you can chat with the friendly staff! They have a "staple menu" that is written in chalk on a board and then there's their menu that is very diverse. They also have a great Happy Hour menu with items priced below $8, including sake! I enjoy their pan-fried gyoza, salted edamame, miso soup, firecracker shrimp, fried calamari, chicken karaage and most other delicious dishes. Their sushi menu is also high quality grade and I feel is often overlooked and underrated. But their ramen is what shines the most! There are so many styles & varieties!
