First off: FIVE amazing stars for this place. We were driving from LA to Oceanside for a soccer tournament. Not coastal Oceanside, but inland. We were looking at food options on the way to the field for after the game and sort of laughed as we passed a sushi place in a strip mall in a seemingly out of the way location. My son heard us mention sushi and perked right up, but we told him not likely around here. Just for fun, we Googled it and then read the reviews and were taken aback at the fantastic reviews. Son plays an amazing game, they win! Grammie wants to take us to lunch so we give her the address. She gets there before us and we all sort of look at one another and say let's give it a try. OMG.....Kyodai 23 is now one of my Top 3 favorite sushi locations EVER!!! The sushi was so fresh, flavorful, melt in your mouth amazing! I'm writing this review two months after we dined, so I don't remember the names of any of the dishes, but I added pics so you can see what we had. It was so good, we actually doubled up on a couple of dishes. We left full and satisfied. Service was very prompt and friendly. The restaurant was clean and nicely appointed. The prices were more than reasonable...especially for that quality of sushi. As much as I don't want to drive 2.5 hours for a single soccer game, I'll be wishing for many more games in Oceanside! KYODAI replaced Kampai. Arrived around 8 pm on a Saturday with about half the place packed. Located close to the freeway off Oceanside Blvd in an interesting complex with Peruvian food, Thai food, and other resources. Looks clean and cozy. Food was delicious. Ordered the lemon roll, lobster roll and kids karaage chicken. Lemon roll was fresh and citrusy - enjoyed the tuna and yellowtail, lobster roll was creamg and there was a lot of the karaage chicken for a kids meal. Service could have been better - more alert and attentive of the multiple tables. They throw out the miso soup around 825 pm so we just missed it. Last call is at 840 pm read more

I came here to KYODAI 23 Sushi for lunch with a friend and had a mighty yummy meal. She ordered the "Boom Boom" sushi roll which she had ordered before & liked. I had a chicken curry rice dish. I had enough food to take home & enjoy at a later date Very friendly & attentive waiter. Casual funky spacious dining area. No outside dining. Only thing that was unusual was that they charge for iced tea refills Otherwise,a great Japanese lunch with an extensive menu. Will return here. Decided to give this place a shot, but apparently getting acknowledged by the staff is asking too much. We walked into a COMPLETELY EMPTY restaurant with two employees clearly there. Not a "hello," not a "we'll be right with you," not even basic eye contact. One employee sat with her back turned to us while the older gentleman saw us and simply walked into the back. We actually had to double-check that they were OPEN because apparently ignoring customers is part of the service here. In hindsight, the completely empty restaurant should have told us everything we needed to know. It takes almost no effort to greet someone who walks into your business--especially when there isn't a single other customer to attend to. If this is how potential customers are treated when the place is empty, I can only imagine the service when they're actually busy. Hopefully this place eventually ends up under new ownership with people who actually want customers and understand the absolute basics of customer service. Needless to say, we walked out--and based on how empty the place was, it doesn't look like we're the only ones choosing to spend our money elsewhere. read more

Service was on point. Things were clean. There were areas that had supplies that weren't organized but that's all. Food was fab. I noticed someone said something about 5 pieces for a roll instead of 8- it says that it is 5 pieces for particular rolls on the menu. We had one five piece roll and it was great! Stopped in for a quick lunch with friends around noon the service was fast & very friendly! We tried the bad boy roll, alibaba roll, Oceanside roll & rock n roll they were all very tasty I think my favorite of those was the Alina bar it had marinated red onions on the top that were flavorful, definitely a nice spot for sushi read more

First time here with Nanci I. who recommended this place to me. We went for ladies night out with her bestie that rolled into town for the weekend. Everything was amazing from the ambiance, service, & to the cuisine. The garlic edamame is sooo scrumptious and I don't usually eat a lot of soy. It was part of my friends' order and I tried a few. The aroma and flavor were divine. The best edamame I'd ever had actually! I got the Jasmine hot tea and the baked Salmon California roll and also tried the rolls my friends ordered as well. The veggie tempura was delicious and I truly enjoyed it with the sauce. Made to order & perfection AND let's not forget how steamy hot/fresh everything came to us from the kitchen! Ordered take out. All of the rolls were heavy on rice with minimal fish. The spicy yellowtail is mashed up fish surrounded by loads of rice - could not taste the fish. This location is so cute with a lot of seating. Our waiter was amazing he did a great job. He went above and beyond to ensure we had a great dinner. Excellent service made all the difference. This place is great and might just be the best sushi place in Oceanside. The regular rolls are pretty cheap ($6 for a Cali) and the specialty rolls are ridiculously good. What amazed me was the sashimi special, which has this seasoning that reminds me of barbecue! There are lots of booths and seating at the bar, and the takeout service was busy! Tried this place last week and was pretty disappointed. I ordered the ex girlfriend roll and for some reason I only got 5 pieces. Usually a roll has 8 pieces so it was pretty disappointing to open the box to find 5 lol it was pretty good but looked and tasted like half of a roll. My husband got the beef yakisoba and the flavor was good but the beef was more like ground beef so that was also disappointing. Probably won't order from here again unfortunately. read more

Booth seating, sushi bar and normal tables create a great variety for all party sizes. Pricing is also very fair and there's tons of free parking in the shared parking lot. Found my new go-to sushi spot! Everything was fabulous. I went with friends and let them handle the ordering, which turned out to be the best decision. I wish I had better details (and better pictures!), but honestly, I was too busy enjoying every bite to think about a review until the next day. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, and the sauces were absolutely on point--perfectly balanced and complementary, never overpowering. This seemd more American fusion sushi as most was salmon/tuna and had Krab and cream cheese fillers and the fish on the menu came in their spicy forms. KYODAI 23 sushi has taken over Kampai--and in the worst ways possible. The rice used in the nigiri we ordered tasted 3 days old, the ratio of rice per fish is awful, and the fish is very obviously not fresh--not to mention, the bathroom was torn up. The texture of the salmon today was slimy and gummy. Our waiter was also quite frantic and uneducated on the menu. I couldn't be more disappointed in our experience, and in the new ownership turnover. I was hoping Kyodai 23 would be a decent restaurant, especially because the location is so close to home, but we will not be back, ever.
