Overall, the restaurant was pretty good. The fish we ordered (sashimi) had decently thick cuts. The taste was okay - not the freshest but not bad. The California roll was good! Rice was soft and avocado was delicious - my toddler loved it. The udon (shrimp) was kind of strangely saucy and soft to me. It was a pick up order and the service was very fast. I haven't sat inside the restaurant, but one time I went I sat outside, and it was clean and decent.

Good food but prices seem to be inflated compared to other places. Thank goodness Sushi Kuchi offers a discount on certain items. After a long day at Legoland, my family and I were in need of some fuel. With my daughter forever wanting sushi, we decided to go with Sushi Kuchi. I'm not gonna lie, the catchy name kinda won us over. Our party or 4 arrived a little before 8:30pm and was immediately seated. Dinner consisted of: *VEGETABLE TEMPURA *TEMPURA UDON [vegetable tempura] *CHICKEN TERIYAKI DINNER ENTREE *BEEF TERIYAKI DINNER ENTREE *CALIFORNIA ROLL [only item that was discounted via the restaurant's offer] * 3 HOT TEAS [$3.50 per cup] Food: The tempura was 100% excessively oily. This was honestly hard to eat since each bite left you with an oozing of oil. View the picture provided- there is literally a mini puddle within the cracks of the layered veggies. The chicken & beef teriyaki was good. Meats were cooked well and sauce was tasty. Overall, I'd consider this as basic but definitely good. The veggie tempura udon had the same issues with the battered & deep fried vegetables. This too was extremely oily and went in the trash. The udon and broth, however, was AMAAAAAZING!! Flavors were delicious, broth was flavorful, and the noodles were chewy/bouncy! Ugh, I'd kill for another serving of this now. CA roll was good, not great. Thank goodness this dish came with a discount because paying listed $16 was not justified. Again, I found things to be overpriced. Maybe it's just the area but given the quality and food received, things just didn't add up. 3 stars overall for Sushi Kuchi. I'd come back strictly for the udon but I can't say the same for the rest of my party.

"Todo Sushi" Roll....w/ a ton of onions....and not many BEETS!

I have been going here since it first opened. Used to LOVE it!!! Best sushi around..... However, the last two times I've ordered, the quality seems to have declined! Tonight, I ordered DoorDash Delivery, "(1) Todo Roll with Soy Paper. Side of Spicy Mayo." It was like $28 w/ tip and delivery! I got a plastic box w/ a pretty unimpressive roll, no wasabi or ginger and no spicy mayo. The Todo Roll used to be piled high w/ Beets and Onions....there were barely any beets! They also changed their Soy Paper to Pink instead of Yellow....not sure if that changed the flavor too!?!?!?! It was just kinda "blah" w/ out all the fixin's! I called and told them and all they offered was to make a note on my account for future orders. Bummer, but I think I may be looking for a new fave sushi place around Carlsbad/Encinitas. Let me know if anyone has any recommendations!!!

We've been a white away for a while so this was our first chance getting back to the one and only. I was around there at lunchtime and I knew my wife would love the 3 x 3 sashimi so I grabbed it brought it home and wondered if it would be the same as in the restaurant. Well, not only was it the same but we got a sunset out of it and it was fantastic. What they do at this restaurant service wise food wise and vibe wise is unparalleled. Just a great spot if you're around the area go and enjoy. As they say "see you tomorrow!"

Friendly and quick service! And they have the cutest patio seating. Hawaiian roll was delicious.

After reading great Yelp reviews, we ordered several rolls from here for a family party to create a sushi board myself. From placing the order to pick up, it was so smooth and the staff is VERY friendly! The prices are also super reasonable with the 50% off (40% for pick up). The woman who answered the phone was thorough and kind to accommodate the pickup time. Also, when you walk inside, the staff is smiling and everyone is welcoming. Wish I lived locally to be able to dine-in, but I'll remember them for the next time I'm in the area! Thank you!

It's our favorite local spot for sushi, for weekday lunch, dinner and for family celebrations. Located next to the Ralph's grocery store in a strip mall. We've been going here for the last few years and it has been consistently good as far as customer service, value & food. Aside from sushi, they also have different dishes like Hot Stone Bibimbap or Bulgogi. They always have a 50% off sushi side on the menu. It has a consistently good vibe and recently, we celebrated my son's birthday and they made it really fun! The server all gave us various hats to wear while the music came on and they brought a dessert (on the house). Great chill place to get some good food and sip on some Kirin or plum wine or for low-key celebrations. You won't be disappointed!

Food: to start off, we ordered the edamame. Plenty in the serving. The top portion of the serving were warmer than those on the bottom. Next, we ordered the salmon skin salad. Unfortunately, it did not arrive to the table until we had finished the rest of the meal. They could have spent a little more time cooking the salmon skin to make it crispier. For entrees we tried the 3x5 sashimi. Came with blue fin tuna, salmon, yellowtail, albacore, escolar (!), an angel roll & rainbow roll. We were excited to see they had Escobar on the menu as not many Sushi restaurants offer this fish. It was delicious as always. The two rolls were good value for the cost. Service: quick & friendly. Nice balance of attention and allowing us to have our meal and conversation, which I appreciate. Ambiance: casual (table and booths). Counter seating also available. We went in at about 3 PM so we were in between the lunch and dinner crowds. Only a few other people in the restaurant. Playing early 80s music. Very comfortable volume. Really added to the vibe.

On vacation and celebrating my 5 year old son birthday, and he wanted Sushi. The food here was amazing and service was over the top excellent and attentive. I really enjoyed their seafood tofu stew and bulgogi Thank you to the sweet lady and staff who sang and made his birthday even more memorable! We will definitely be back when we're visiting.

Many sushi establishments are Korean owned and offer several hot dishes. We enjoy the Hot Stone Bimbimbap and Soft Tofu Stew. It's great on a cold day. The service was friendly and welcoming. Ambiance is casual. Open late so in case you forget to cook or grocery shop, you have some where to eat.

    Yummy nigiri sushi
    Rhondi S.

Quality of the fish has gone downhill. Even the ahi has too much tendon/sinew that was too chewy. Miso soup had firm tofu instead of silken or soft, was awful. Even the chicken teriyaki and yakitori is not good. When they started serving bibimbop, bulgogi, spicy tofu soup and other Korean dishes should have warned us the chefs are not Japanese but Korean, we should have stopped coming here!! Service is lacking and their 50% off sushi is just a clever marketing ploy to get customers in for their low grade sushi and sashimi, be warned...stay away!

The poke salad was another standout -- I still don't know what magic sauce they use, but OMG it was so good! The kids devoured the teriyaki chicken, which was juicy and flavorful -- just the kind of meal that makes everyone happy. What they're known for: A wide variety of sushi rolls including dragon, rainbow, spicy tempura, and more -- most rolls are typically around $13-$16. Fresh poke bowls made with marinated tuna or salmon over rice. Teriyaki combos and grilled plates with rice and salad -- most entrees range roughly $11-$19 depending on what you choose. There was lots of seating, though we came toward closing time and the staff had to close one side to clean up -- but they were so nice, understanding, and friendly about it. That level of service really stood out! Parking was super easy since it's inside the outlets -- tons of open lot parking right by the restaurant. Best dish? Hard to choose, but the fresh sushi and poke salad were our absolute favorites -- and that teriyaki chicken is a hit with kids! We'd definitely come back the next time we're in Carlsbad! Highly recommend for a tasty, fresh sushi fix -- especially after shopping or before hitting the beach!

I always enjoy dining there with my family because they have good food that we can all enjoy together. Every year for my birthday I go to Gonzo! I simply love eating at Gonzo. First of all, I can't get over how scrumptious their food is, it is so tasty and packed with flavor. If you stand in line to order, as soon as you sit down you will have already been served. I don't know how Gonzo prepares their meals so fast, yet so delicious. Also the fact that they cook their food fresh daily is crazy to me. I've been to many ramen restaurants and no one compares to Gonzo's. My go to on the menu is the tonkotsu ramen with gyoza and chicken karaage. Gonzo also offers a very unique atmosphere that makes you feel like you're in Japan. They have waving cats, a big banana neon light, posters and a floating ball on top of the water station. The ball is so cool but I am still puzzled on how it works. Their decor can not be matched. They also have a TV that is always playing Anime. You can also sit inside or outside so if you feel like sitting inside, sit inside but if you want to sit outside, sit outside. Gonzo also does not offer reservations so there is always a place to sit. If there is nowhere to sit just get It to go, truly there is no other ramen stop better than Gonzo. Lastly, the people there are super nice, and always check up on you, they are very polite, and they always say your welcome. While you wait, you can enjoy your appetizers until your main meal arrives. Also if you ask them for a free ticket to their store, they will give you one, each member of the family gets one. You can go next door and trade them in for tokens, these tokens can be used to play claw machines so you can win stuff. But what tops that off is that all of the employees are welcoming and happy. Gonzo Ramen is the best restaurant in the world. They offer good food, an amazing atmosphere and the people there are super nice not to mention the location is very conveniently located near my house. I seriously think about Gonzo all the time. The restaurant is small, cozy, welcoming and aesthetically pleasing. It isn't well suited for larger parties as most tables are tables for 2 unless tables are pushed together. They do have patio seating and heaters outside, but it didn't appeal to me being so close to the street/loud traffic. Gabriel checked us in, seated us, took our order, served our food and waited on us for majority of our visit, I would give him 10 stars just on his impeccable service. The food though? The food was AMAZING!! Everything we ordered was the best we have ever had anywhere. The buns were very kawaii (and we ordered ever single one to try). The fillings were savory, but we also loved their seasonal panda bun with ube filling while the kids preferred the nutella bunny. Best chicken karaage we've had by far, the coating almost tasted like it was rolled in kinako powder. The ramen broth was "chef's kiss" with so much flavors, the crab rangoon were jumbo and the filling was delicious, but the chicken katsu was also the best we have had anywhere (including Hawaii). The breading was just top tier crunchy while the chicken was thick and juicy. There isn't one bad thing I could say about this place, from the service to the food, I would make the drive out here again. The name reflects the restaurant's mission to serve dishes prepared with the same love, care, and attention that a mother gives to her family's everyday meals. How lovely is that?! Anyhow, I was able to find street parking and walked into a clean dining space with a nice atmosphere. It wasn't too busy. Again, the staff was very attentive and provided stellar service. Another plus! The place was busy busy and sooo noisy. We were fine with the wait to take our order (about 15 minutes), which gave us enough time to peruse the menu. We ordered the Omasake box with side of sushi rice, Salmon Teriyaki entree with xtra veggies and no rice, a side of Kale salad, and Passion Fruit Cheesecake for dessert. No menu drinks; just water, which came aplenty, as our glasses were never empty while we continually guzzled down our h20 (this summer has been such an excruciatingly hot one) - another plus for this continued h20 service! Now for our order: The Box came immediately, and without hesitation my companion dove in with chopsticks already waiting in hand. I picked on his meal, while waiting for mine. The Salmon entree came about ten minutes later, while I salivatingly and happily endulged myself with its delicious flavor. The Kale salad came quite late (almost like an after thought) as we were almost done with our main orders. The salad had an odor that wasn't quite pleasant - as probably most extremely green veggies do smell when grilled. I liked the taste; my companion did not, as he stated it tasted too bitter. I requested a side of ponzu sauce to tame down the bitterness, and I also ended up tossing some shredded white garnished radish noodles (left over from my companion's box meal) to mix in with the kale salad...hmmm, tasted better, but we eventually requested to have our salad to go. My companion was still hungry after his boxed meal; I was not, but we both agreed not to order anything more, a we awaited the dessert. The cheesecake dessert was the best part of our meal here, as the taste really pleased our still hungry palette. And yet another plus! All in all, the meal was pleasant. A little pricey (over $100) - thank goodness we skipped the drinks, less regular h20. Would we return? Sure. Service was great, and food was pretty good. Just a bit pricey... but then again, most sushi and seafood eateries are. There is plenty of parking and a plethora of other eateries nearby. If ones palette begs to differ from sushi or seafood.

For $25 you get a starter (think edamame, marinated cucumbers, dumplings, etc.), a choice of Chicken, Pork or Beef, and a soft drink. It also includes all the dipping sauces, broth, rice and vegetables. Everyone loved that you could customize it to their own liking and it was just a fun experience cooking together with everyone. Definitely will come back and it was an awesome value at only $25 a person.

I want to start by saying that I very much enjoyed eating at Tabu Shabu. It's very fair to state…read morethat my three star experience is mostly my own doing more so than the restaurant itself. Our server was fantastic, the setup clean, and the menu was fairly easy to navigate. Where it fell apart for me all came after that. This is not my style of cooking. So many places I've been to, where you cook your own food on a grill or hot plate at your table, you're mainly dealing with thin cuts of meat, salt and pepper, and possibly a dipping sauce. This makes the cooking simple, a quick sear, a light crust on the beef or pork, and the finished product is basic and delicious. Shabu, though ... it's boiled meat. That's not to say that Tabu Shabu isn't good, but unless you're really adept at making soups, it's easy to be completely out of your element. And I can safely say I was a bit over my head at this restaurant. You start with your broth, where I am ashamed to admit that instead of opting for the Tonkostu with its deep and rich fatty flavor, I chose the basic umami of the White Miso. Because of that, I spent most of my meal mistakenly chasing flavors I would normally find in a Ramen Shop. They give you a plate of chopped herbs to add and some basic instructions ... I like garlic, so I added the whole thing, radish sound alright, so add in the whole ball, what was the last thing I put in? They give you a few squeeze bottles of oils with paper labels ... this one makes it more sour, this one makes it more spicy, this one has sesame, and I'm too timid to add enough of any to truly add to the flavor of the broth, so it just keeps that basic umami flavor without being as salty as it should be. Then you have a plate of vegetables to steep in your creation. Cabbage, broccoli, spinach, bok choy, tofu ... all of it serves as a way of soaking up that broth you've made. Other options, like the carrots, mushrooms, and squash, become sweet and tender after taking their turns in the pot. And they're nice as they offer a different flavor other than that umami. And then there's the meat. A wide variety of options ranging from salmon, to chicken, to pork, all the way down to multiple versions of beef. But, all of the meats we ordered seem to differ only in texture after spending some time in that broth. Some fell apart on the tongue, some still had a nice chew, but all shared that umami from the pot, with an aftertaste of beefy flavor before swallowing. After a few initial pieces, I found myself thankful for the dipping sauces to distract me from how boring I had made my broth to be. You also get a choice of rice, which I don't think you really need. You get a choice of noodles, which they give you a good amount where it doesn't fill you up with carbs. And anything left over is readily bagged up to eat at home after the flavors mix together and mature. In the end, it's a very filling and fairly healthy meal. I think it's difficult to not compare this to eating a bowl of Pho or Ramen. All the ingredients are there, just instead of eating it with a spoon, you pull out the individual bits with some chop sticks and pretend you're not eating boiled beef and spinach. If I were a better cook, or had another ten visits worth of practice, Tabu Shabu could easily be 4-5 stars. As it is, though, I think I would rather just go to GONZO and get another chef's creation to be sure of the flavors I want. Regardless, I want to come back here and try again one day. The variety of options and the wait staff alone are enough for me to learn more and expand my Shabu options, as well as recommend this place to others.

We've driven by this place so many times on our way to other…read moreplaces that I never realized it was here but yesterday when I was looking for a sushi place in our area, I sorted by the top rated, and this was one of the top ones so I thought it would only be fair for us to give it a chance when we arrive to the parking lot I realized that it shares a parking lot with a motel so parking can be a little bit tricky. We had to park down in the far end in front of a Starbucks that looked closed, so I'm sure there are some peak times that this shopping center is very hard to park in so just a heads up. The restaurant itself is very beautiful inside the bar looks really great. They've got some beers on top and there's also a sushi bar that you could sit in front of. I don't know if they take reservations, but we didn't have any. It was just the two of us and we were seated at a high top right away. I think they were a little bit busy so it took a moment for somebody to come by and get our drink order we ordered a couple of beers and a little bit of sake and a couple of waters. I do want to add a sidenote that those waters never appeared, but I realize that everybody was a little bit busy that night so I'll always forgive a slight oversight. Onto the ordering, we started off the evening with the Hamachi with jalapeños over a cucumber salad, and that was delicious and then we had some sashimi, which was really good as well. My husband had ordered the crab croquettes when we got there, and it was at the end of the meal when our waitress came over after I asked about them that she said that the kitchen had just informed her that they no longer have them so a little inconvenient when like 30 minutes had passed I realized they weren't coming so it wasn't too big of a deal, but my husband was very excited about those and he didn't get them lol. My husband, I think had their namesake role and he really liked it. I had their salmon skin handle. It was all right. I really liked their avocado maki roll, but I like that everywhere. I think it was the owner or maybe a manager who came by and asked us how everything was. I let him know. It was our first time and they were gracious enough to give us a free dessert which was deep-fried Biscoff cookies with vanilla ice cream many other delicious things that I'm sure I'm not naming and everything about it was really good. Five stars for the overall experience I think we'll be back another time.

The restaurant has bar seating, where you can see the chefs prepare the sushi rolls in front of you, or regular table seating. It's spacious and clean, and they have some TVs on the wall where they were playing golf and soccer games. They offer traditional sushi offerings, such as nigiri and sashimi, and rolls, but also have hot appetizers, ramen and rice dishes. We opted to get sushi rolls this time. We ordered the spicy salmon roll, the rainbow roll, dragon roll, limitless roll, truffle shuffle roll, karaage and the 3x3 sashimi combo roll. The rolls didn't have too much rice on it and had a lot of the ingredients inside. There were about 8 pieces per roll. Our favorite ended up being the truffle shuffle roll. The fish was fresh. The karaage was lighter than I'm used to, I believe they used white meat instead of dark meat and it wasn't as oily. The staff are very friendly and attentive. They came by to ask us how we liked our food and brought us water refills. Would come here again to try the other rolls!
