Wow, I just had the most miserable, frustrating, time-wasting experience at Hooper's Camera in Woodland Hills. After calling and talking to Brian I was told they had a Panasonic battery for my GH4. It was $63. I asked if they would match Adorama's price of $55. He said yes, in fact he would beat it at $45. I was thrilled and dropped everything to go get it. I needed it for an important shoot and Samy's was sold out. I had no time to order it online. As I arrive I discover that it was NOT a Panasonic battery, but a cheap Chinese knock-off battery by Power 2000 (ACD-416 in case you want to verify). A quick search found it sold for $16.81 on Amazon, Sears had it for $17.85, as did several other companies. They said they paid $30 for it from their distributor. I highly doubt that, but if they did, they are getting ripped off. They didn't seem the least bit concerned about that so my assumption is they were being dishonest. I would have immediately called the distributor and demanded an explanation and refund for the overcharge. I understand that large chains can negotiate better deals, but this is too far from that range to fall under that excuse... After speaking with Gary Hooper, insult was added to injury; he refused to sell it for less than $35 and was rude and condescending. He constantly interrupted me and refused to even listen to what I was saying. He completely failed to resolve the situation and basically threw gasoline onto the fire. So in summary, they deceived me about the product brand, (intentional or otherwise) initially attempting to get $63 for a product that sells for $17??? They wasted my time and treated me with complete disrespect. Infuriating!!! Aside from that the store was filthy, there were no customers and they had very little inventory. I was amazed they were still in business. I understand they have closed roughly 8 stores in the past years. Once their business completely fails I imagine I'll see Gary working as a clerk for Samy's, well, until they realize what a miserable failure he is and fire him... As I was leaving, Gary encouraged me to write the review; I couldn't let him down, after all, he earned it. I guess when you are the boss' son you don't have to worry about taking proper care of customers. Anyway, after this experience I felt compelled to warn the rest of humanity to spare them from suffering a similar fate. read more

I have been a customer of Hooper Camera for many years now. I must admit, in the past the elderly gentlemen that worked at the Thousand Oaks store were not very friendly or helpful at all and it was somewhat off putting.With that being said,I was just in the store again last Saturday to get over one hundred vacation photo's developed and would like to share that the time spent in the store could not have been any more of a positive or awesome experience. I found the extremely professional and caring assistance given to me by Eric to brighten, change the contrast and crop on almost all of my photo's just outstanding. Eric definitely exceeded any expectations that I had and I will be back very soon to do the other 600 photo's. I know I'm in good hands and they will be done perfectly. read more

Fortunately I didn't go with my first impression from my phone otherwise I would've missed a gem and avoided this place but I needed information on a Sunday and there aren't a lot of camera stores that are open. At first Mike seemed gruff & not interested in helping but I have to say once he started going, he was a wealth of knowledge and information and taught us quite a bit about what we really didn't need and why. Mike is definitely passionate about cameras and accessories and his knowledge is extraoridinarily broad which helped us learn as well as save a lot of money. Horrible experience! This is my first time writing a review (had to write about this one) I walked in asking advice about Canon lenses. The employee completely trash talked Canon and the choice of my camera. He then proceeded to shove Sony down my throat and would not answer questions about the lens for my Canon. He pretty much said anyone who doesn't buy Sony doesn't know much about photography. Anyone else experience this at hopper? After googling the closest camera repair shop, I found Hooper Camera. I have a Sony A6000 that's been sitting for quite some time. I kept saying that the camera lens was not recognized so I brought it in hoping to repair it. I was promptly being helped and the team was great! They quickly diagnosed it and turns out the lens was the problem after all which was a lot better than having to replace the expensive camera. They gave me options and I was on my way. These are the only folks in town who develop old 35mm camera film. My daughter had an assignment for her photography class due soon and they turned around the film processing about as quickly as can be done out here. Dave and Brian were patient and courteous. I regret that I didn't catch the young lady's name who took the film in for me but also very nice and helpful. I will undoubtedly return with other photography needs. It sure is nice being treated like a real person by folks who seem to really love what they're doing. read more
