My kid loves basketball so I sent my kid here due to the high ratings. I wish it were better. Here are the flaws that I think everyone should be aware of prior to signing up: 1. They don't speak to your children with respect. There is constant berating and talking down to children. A child in the class asked a reasonable question and the instructor responded sarcastically. The instructors clearly expect the children to misbehave and believe punishment and threats is the way to get what they want. It reminded me of a boot camp with drill sergeants, which is not something I want for any young child. 2. It's chaotic. They split the class into 3 stations with different instructors. They don't clearly explain the drills and then punish children for doing it wrong. Going pack to the previous point, they intentionally don't or are incapable of answering the children's questions properly, which further confuses the children. Also, one of the instructors brings her two young children, the younger of which cries and demands her attention during the session. She eventually picks her child up and tries rocking the child to sleep while attempting to do basketball drills with the students. I thought this was a one-off but its happened week after week. 3. They end the class with a silly chant. Needless to say, we cut our losses and stopped going. I didn't want my kid to hate basketball. read more

My son absolutely loves basketball because of his experience at Hoops413! He loves coach Eric and Coach Kaitlyn and looks forward to Saturdays with Hoops. My son is shy and reserved and I have seen him grow comfortable with Hoops because he is seen and the coaches are empathetic and care to correct them and teach them- when my son is confused or doesn't have the right form the coaches notice and help him and that builds his confidence level. Most classes geared for toddlers are chaotic with no discipline or direction- they just want the kids to have fun. At hoops you get the best of both! Hoops413 is beyond amazing! My son has participated in their basketball sessions/classes, their leagues, and their summer camp, and he's loved every minute. His skills have improved greatly. He went from being very new, to being at the point where I can hardly keep up with him on the court. Beyond learning basketball skills, all of the coaches, especially Coach Miguel, have been there to support his growth as a person. They take the time to get the know the kids as individuals. My son had an issue with some kids at school and Coach Miguel took the time to sit down with him and talk him through it, which was above and beyond and really helped things change for the better. Owners Coach Miguel and Coach Kaitlin continuously go above and beyond to create a beautiful basketball community. A community anchored in love, communication, and fun, all while learning skills and techniques necessary to play competitive basketball. My daughter started with Hoops413 this summer for their week long camp. She had a blast! This camp is perfect for working parents because of their extended day, and they make sure to keep campers busy and engaged in a variety of activities that are embedded in the sport! From there she went on to play for Season 2 of their Basketball league! The evaluations day was smooth and not intimidating. The coaches are all so sweet but know the game so well because they are players themselves. The practices are consistent and the games are absolute FIRE! The crowd is always respectful because we are there to support our children in a fun way! Everyone at Hoops413 has truly redefined my daughter's vision of competitive sports, has given her the confidence she needed when playing, and have honed in on her strengths and helped her develop in the area where she needs more work. I haven't written a good ole yelp review in years, but I came here to give 5 stars+ to Hoops413. My 6 year old son attended their 1 week summer camp, and also completed an 8 week session of beginners basketball. All of the teachers and counselors were SO nice, friendly, well-mannered. Communication has been concise and prompt. My son had SO much fun at the camp, I wish they offered it more than 1 week out of the summer. And he enjoyed his time getting to learn skills and do drills in the basketball sessions. It helped hone in on his early interest in the sport, and I liked that the sessions weren't just "open free play" of shooting, if you will. They split the large group into smaller groups for more individual drills and attention, and would scrimmage at the end. Hoops413 came highly recommended, and now I'm wanting to return the favor. We enrolled our 3 yr old boy into the Summer Developmental Basketball League held Saturday Mornings for 30 mins from 9:30am to 10am. It is the perfect time, early enough to kick-start your day and leave you with the remainder of the Saturday to do other activities. It's also an outdoor Basketball training camp, so it's early enough where it's not too cold nor not too hot and the weather is perfect for the kids. Miguel runs an organized system, it's focus at this age is to build the fundamentals and foundation of the skills within the sport and sportsmanship among the players. Coach Kaitlin is an excellent teacher and instructor of the children. She makes sure every child gets attention and the opportunity to build their skills. They supplied nice generic colored jerseys which were light weight for the Summer, perfect to put over day-clothes, which you get to keep as part of your enrollment. They also have an awards ceremony at the end of the season where every child gets the same certificate and a high quality metal medal medallion to wear with pride. This was is great experience overall as an introduction to Basketball, and Hoops 413 continues cultivating the skills of players as they develop and age, with other age grouped categories for training. I think the sweet spot to start your child into Basketball is between 3-4 years or (or older) where they can listen and follow directions, mimic motion and action and have the patience to participate. Our son wasn't the greatest player, but he had a great time every week, so that's what's most important. He looked forward to and enjoyed this program. This training camp school was held at Valor, and has really easy parking on the streets or the parking lot. We've enrolled in various other Basketball activities, including indoor, but Hoops 413 was our son's favorite, due in large part to "Coach K" (Kaitlin) and the system with the lowered basketball hoop net and backboard as well as the smaller ball, perfect scale to the size of toddlers and young children. If you're thinking about signing your child up for a local basketball program you NEED to do Hoops 413 before you try any other one. This program not only specializes in teaching your (very young) children the fundamentals of the game, but they teach them values, life skills and how to be good people on top of it all. My girls (2.5 and 5.5) have come to absolutely LOVE coach Kaitlin. She is their role model and they say her name in their prayers almost every night. She is very obviously talented and knowledgeable in the game of basketball, but even more so she LOVES the kids and helps them in so many other ways. This program helps the very young kids learn to follow instructions, work and play with other kids, helps them with their counting, their athleticism and flexibility... but above all else it teaches them things like making sure they clap for the kids in last place, and help their friends who may need an extra push. My 5 year old is finally excited about going to something every Saturday morning and wants to practice things at home that she learns from basketball class. (As a former college b-ball player, I couldn't be happier to see her interested in the sport!). But she never would've gotten to that point had the coaches not made it so fun, and welcoming, and positive for her and the rest of the kids from day 1. My little one struggles with accepting new people, and these coaches are understanding and work with her through her struggles. And because of that, some Saturdays she shines through all of her fears and it's so encouraging to see. So I had the unfortunate experience of finding this camp in September 2021, and why this is unfortunate is because Hoops 413 had been around for a few years and I didn't know about it. I'm wildly impressed with the camp, and I'm not the guy who's easily impressed. My 7-year-old son LOVES Hoops 413, it's 45 minute long sessions, one day a week, which is so manageable. As a parent of 4, we try to stack our kid's schedules with activities, and this camp is a great addition to his schedule, but not too overwhelming. As far as the price goes, it's ridiculously affordable. I'm happy to report that although the price point is low, it doesn't negotiate on the quality of care and enthusiasm the coaches put in every weekend. I'm so thankful to have found Hoops 413, and the owner, Miguel makes everyone feel like family upon walking in. I mean, even his parents are working there every Saturday, greeting the families with smiles and warmth. I couldn't be happier to now be a part of the Hoops 413 family. It makes me proud to see black and brown-owned businesses in the South Bay, it gives my kids another role model in someone who looks like them. My son is two years old, and he started with this basketball organization in September 2021. We are always excited and look forward to Saturday mornings for a fun time! Hoops413 focuses not only on basketball techniques; they incorporate color learning, number counting, and fun to keep the little ones interested and going. Within the past few months, my son has learned and mastered shooting with one hand, and he has been super happy about it! We love how all coaches are very respectful and patient. Hoops413 is awesome for little kids. My son has been doing basketball camp with them pre-Covid and he has a lot of fun. We started back up in the late fall and were a little nervous at first but they did so much a good job making it safe. And what a difference a few more classes made. My son went from mostly wandering around and not paying attention to following the exercises and drills and actually understanding and playing basketball. He loves it so much my older daughter asked to do it as well. The coaches are so good at making it fun, from dressing up in costume on Halloween, to Easter egg hunts to bubble tunnels but the kids learn a ton and develop some serious skills. The coaches are so good with the kids! We were a bit nervous about starting up classes again during COVID but they do a great job socially distancing and have lots of precautions set up (temp check prior to entering, mandating face masks, bringing your own basketball (recommended but will also provide sanitized balls) They really go the extra mile for the kids. For Halloween they encouraged the kids to wear their costumes (and the coaches dressed up too!) and incorporated trick or treating into the class.
