I recently made a significant purchase with Academy Sports online. The product was showing 1 in…read morestock and only available for store pickup. First, I applied for their credit card to save a few bucks. I was accepted, but $100 less than the purchase. The site would not allow me to pay part of it with my debit card, so I just paid the whole amount. Later, I got a text saying that it wasn't available to pick up in Tuscaloosa. It gave other options, but only within 50 miles, and it wasn't available there either. So I went to the store in Tuscaloosa after work so I could talk to a human. I get there, and there's only 2 girls at the registers. When I get through the line, as usual, one walks off never to return. The girl that finally helps me doesn't have a clue. The store pick-up counter has been abandoned, and she scrambles to find a manager or equivalent. She finally gets someone, and she's not very bright either. But finally, she just says that they must have realized that they were out after my purchase. I will be promptly closing my account as soon as my card arrives in the mail. Incompetent asses do not deserve my business. I will do my best not to ever visit their establishment in the future. Well, maybe except to use the bathroom, only because the Lowe's in the area is horrible.

This is the worst academy location…read more The employees are rude and don't care about anything. Management is just as rude. Employees at the registers were bullying and mocking coworkers. One poor girl ran through the store crying and they continued to mock her after she was gone. They carried on a loud conversation about gossip and other people and acted like customer questions were interruptions. They have items marked clearance on the website but you can't order them for pick up and they won't honor the price in store. So you actually cannot buy it. This was such a bad experience I will definitely NEVER shop this specific location and probably will never shop again at any Academy. This location has been going down hill for a while. It's so easy to see why.

It's an okay gym, but there's nothing even close to "luxury" about it. You'd genuinely get better…read moreservice at the YMCA. The women's sauna is constantly broken or smells like sewage, and it's been that way long enough that it's clearly not a priority to fix. They also completely erased a huge part of the club's community when they removed the basketball courts. That space brought people together, and replacing it with indoor pickleball--without asking members--says everything about how decisions are made here. Most of the events are geared toward the senior population, so calling this place an "athletic country club" feels misleading. And the last‑minute changes to heated classes, suddenly moving them outdoors when it's 60 degrees and cloudy, make no sense. It feels like they're sacrificing quality just to squeeze in more bodies. It was heartbreaking to lose the cycle classes as that was the only community I had been able to build there. When the gym is crowded, it's barely usable. I've seen the saunas so packed that people are standing shoulder to shoulder. It's uncomfortable and defeats the purpose entirely. And while most of the staff are friendly, it's hard not to notice that some employees show up smelling like weed, which doesn't exactly match the "premium" image they're trying to sell.

Lifetime (Birmingham) is an upscale gym, spa and recreation facility offering free and paid fitness…read moreclasses, state of the art gym equipment, indoor and outdoor pools, sauna, steam room and whirlpool spa. They have childcare and even a cafe with healthy offerings (one inside and one by the outdoor pool for summer days). They also offer towels, lockers, shampoo, razors, etc, , personal training, small group training and educational programs. I have participated and taken advantage of all of these services and amenities, at some point. It's the nicest health and wellness facility in Business, and prices are reflective of this fact. It's worth every penny if you are able to take advantage of offerings. Unfortunately, the sauna and steam room are often closed, in need of repair and classes require advanced reservations and fill up quickly.

Poor Customer Service - Will Not even Answer The Phone…read more I wanted to make a purchase from the Gadsden Alabama Academy Store yesterday. I wanted to see the item I was purchasing prior to the purchase and not just the pictures and description online. Before driving the 1/2 hour to the store, I called the Gadsden Store (256-439-6260) six times to see if the item I wanted was in stock. Despite all my efforts, I could only reach the automated answer line and was stuck holding on it. I was never able to contact a live associate at the Gadsden Store. Thinking the store may be closed, I called the Academy Customer Service Number (888-922-2336) two times. I was again stuck with an automated answer line and left holding. I then called the Trussville Alabama Store (205-661-5500). Wow, a real human answered the phone. I was informed that the Gadsden Store was open. I asked to leave my contact information and for the District Manager to return my call. I was put on hold and another associate came on the line. They stated they had attempted to call both the Gadsden Store and the District Manager and were unable to contact them. This entire episode is a terrible reflection on Academy Sports + Outdoors and their customer service. If I am not valued as a customer, I will be taking my business elsewhere.
