Leesa is an amazing baker. These are her raspberry scones.

The funky ambience here knows no bounds. Funny signs, biker gear, 6 packs of craft beers, vintage clothing on consignment and of course great breakfasts and baked goods. The coconut bread is sublime.

We stopped by as this has been a go to for us when fishing throughout Hope Valley. This visit we left with a peach poe to later enjoy at home. To our disappointment the pie was molded! The most expensive pie I've ever purchased and it was trashed. Under new ownership and no longer a place we'd return to.

It's a sad day, and I truly mean that. The food was great, but, until today, the extras were as well. Today they wouldn't give us a glass of water. We always, I mean always, have water with our meals, and a lot of it. Today, they pointed us to the beverage case and said, '...get what you want.' I asked for water and she pointed again. The food was very good, and my breakfast burrito still has me filled up hours later...but, alas, it will be a while before we return. I'm hoping it was the exception and not the rule....

Hope Valley Café and Market is a gem of a restaurant, along with the small general store inside the restaurant building. The café is located on on California Highway 88, east of Carson Pass, in some of the best hunting and fishing country the Sierra Nevada Mountain range has to offer. Oh yes, the food and service are only exceeded by the breathtaking mountain scenery... The general store is located at the west end of the building, and features beer - of course - soft drinks, ice, canned food, and many supplies to keep campers happy. The center of the restaurant/store is lined with tables, for dining comfort. The centerpiece of the restaurant/general store features a wood-burning stove, and lots of comfortable seating, to keep customers and staff warm on cold Sierra Nevada mountain days. Despite the incredible amount of snow that falls during the winter, Hope Valley Café is open every day, thanks to the fact that CalTrans plows the highway often, and keeps it mostly free of snow. The restaurant is located in the rear of the photo. I love the cozy interior! The menu offers several choices but what caught my eye was Chorizo Huevos Rancheros, as there is nothing about chorizo, or huevos rancheros that I don't LOVE! This breakfast was truly delicious, and kept me full and happy for the rest of the day. I can truly say that I enjoyed my breakfast at Hope Valley Café and Market, as the food was delicious, the staff was super friendly, and the rustic dining room, and small general store was wonderful. You don't have to be a camper, a hunter, or a fisherman to love this fine restaurant, as all you have to be is a "foodie," like I am.

Have you ever gone to a restaurant and it feels like home. Hope Valley Cafe has a couch in front of the wood stove, serve yourself soda, and ice cream. I ended up ordering a tuna sandwich. It was so fresh and tasty. We sat inside, but they have a couple of tables outside. If you feel like it you can eat your meal on the couch in front of the wood stove. I hope to be back soon.

Good hamburger! Would go again. The cook, who also took our order didn't have much personality but he did the job well.

Great service and friendly staff. Needs some decoration but that does not affect the service or food.

It was our first…read moretime in the area and it seemed to have great reviews so we were excited to check it out for my sister's bachelorette weekend. The bartender (I didn't catch her name, but I wish I did) was absolutely amazing. She was so friendly and kind. We showed up dressed as Pitbull and his security so we definitely stood out, but she loved it and celebrated us and my sister. She made us feel welcomed and made it as fun of an experience as possible by trying to play a Pitbull song for us, but someone else skipped it. She gave us the last of the Jell-O shots which we greatly appreciated. She also invited us to return the next day to play Bingo at 3pm, but we couldn't make it. There's a music system (like a jukebox) where you can pay for songs you'd like to listen to. We paid for some songs that were more upbeat than the music that was playing when we arrived and it didn't seem to be well received by some of the other patrons. Others have the option to skip your songs (even though you pay for them). I personally had a blast and had great interactions with others in the bar, but others in my group had experiences that made them feel unwelcome by people in the bar so I deducted a couple stars from my review since it didn't seem to be inclusive. My sister was in the bathroom and overheard others saying negative things about our group so we called it a night shortly after that happened. I wish this place was a little more inclusive, but I would return just to visit with our bartender who was so welcoming to our group.

Well the ambience can't be beat here. The ceilings are surprisingly tall for someplace of this age. There's no shortage of things to look at on the wall. Very interesting. Best of all there is a lovely vanilla smell permitting every corner of the venue. I don't know if it's a candle or essential oil or what but i like it!!

We loved this place so much that we were impressed with ourselves the day that we did NOT make a stop by this bar, and perhaps we even stopped by twice if eating in Genoa. You walk in (by the way, look like a regular, and PUSH the very low doorknob, not pull like I did initially) and immediately know it is dripping with history, divey-ness, and awesomeness. The crowd comes in waves, as it is a popular drop-in for people coming through town as well as many very welcoming and friendly locals. Actually, I want to say again how awesome the regulars were. Not sure how I would feel if constant tourist dropped in my homestead, but everyone we talked to who was local was awesome and inviting. The bar had an IPA for me. They have a pool table. They have a jukebox (which defaulted to glam rock when we were there, so I LOVED that). They have cool merch. They have some awesome stuff on walls and ceiling. They have some fantastic mixed drinks, including one of the better Bloody Mary's my wife has had as well as a unique, tasty hot drink (Hot Buttered Buccaneer Drink). They have a spacious outdoor area. They don't have food, but we had a burger and burger salad (wife) from the food truck there, and it was stellar. The fries were great too. Back to the bar though. And, every bartender who served us during the week gave us friendly, efficient, perfect service. Once we realized that South Tahoe was irritatingly tourist overpopulated at this time of year, we decided to attend this cool candle-lighting tradition they did on NYE there instead of figuring out logistics over the pass. The event was SOOOO cool, and they even had a fun band later that night that they somehow packed into the jukebox corner. Hope I don't forget anyone. Whether you get Syd, Gabby, Candi, Dee, Carrie, or Ginger (the only one I didn't meet personally), you will love your experience here. They were all rock stars during our visits. I can't say enough good things about this bar, it really made "our South Tahoe trip," and you should swing by if in the area. I highly recommend this place, and see you there (the next time we are in the area)...
