My gf and I came here for a week from Anaheim. We've been around the lake and found many memorable places, but whiskey dicks is something special. To begin with , I'm not a local . I just came here for the weekend . (Also this was like my third time at a bar or maybe second ) Arrived at around 11 pm , already a bunch of drunk people . The bartender was regular to us at the beginning but then started giving us a weird look . I thought maybe because I look young , idk. She asked what we want , we ask for a tequila shot but we didn't know which one ( all the bottles behind her looked empty ) she said what kind and laughs and I asked her , maybe a dumb question. Can you make us a mix drink , something you recommend. She said figure out what y'all want and come again. I was already feeling kind of tipsy so I just decided to go to a liquor store and call it a night . She messed up for-sure , I was ready to tip her , good cash . I would've been down to get the most expensive drink . I'm Mexican , hopefully that wasn't her problem. Came to Whiskey Dick's on a Sunday night during a visit from Sacramento. I will start by saying I loved the bartender, a guy rocking a yellow hoodie who was so cool & appreciated my music selection on the AMI jukebox. I will admit, I would come to whiskey dick's every single day just for that jukebox! The prices on drinks are fair and the pool tables are in good condition. The bathroom is pretty nasty however. I think it is a good local spot to hangout, but definitely not a tourist attraction! They are also pet friendly which is fun. If they sold merchandise, I would definitely rock it! read more

RUDE bartender! Not personable unless you are a local. Was rude from the beginning and didn't know how to make a shooter. Left a low tip because that's what she deserved. Then got asked where we were from???? Never in my years of being a server/bartender have I got asked or asked someone that after looking at my tips. I liked this place. It's a pretty grimy dive bar for locals, primarily. I say grimy in a good way. The bathrooms were very gimy (probably not in a good way) but that is expected. I was living in Tahoe for a bit and I guess was somewhat of a local so I was treated nicely and served quickly. Tourists stick out like a sore thumb and aren't treated as nice. They have a few pool tables, snacks, and the drinks are good. The bartenders are nice but only respect you if you show them respect. Which is the way it should be so kudos to them. Your typical locals hangout spot; literally the very first bar I went to when I moved to South Lake Tahoe. This is the epitome of a true dive bar, crowd not excluded, so be aware of that. Cheap drinks, but in a small, confined space. Great for local shows, if you're into that. And one of only like 2 places in town that have pool tables. read more

If you expect anything but a Dive Bar experience you are at the wrong place. So much fun. Music is loud, pool tables, shuffle board and a rowdy Yelp crew in attendance. This was the first event my great friend Terry K and I got to attend as we flew into Sacramento and fearless woman that she is, Terry drove in the dark, thru the mountains to stop here before we even checked in to our hotel. Admittedly, I needed a drink after that drive as I'm a sissy girl but once here, at Whiskey Dick's, the fun began. Met so many great Yelpers at this UYE set up by the distingushed Michelangelo which was the second event of the night. Finally met the witty Yelper, also from Hawaii, John F (Yeah) and after a couple of beers did a Fireball shot with him to end the party. So many beer choices, a slew of top shelf choices and the owner tending bar making sure everyone was having a good time. Great event Michelangelo, well planned and a fabulous way to start meeting the outstanding Yelpers from Reno and Sacramento....and elsewhere. #170 Super fun place to relax, make new friends, shoot pool, watch MNF and grab drinks. We had just finished a small dinner after a long day at Sierra and wanted to catch the end of the game and throw back a few adult beverages. One of my companions pointed out Whiskey DIck's as we were stopped at the light. I was like, it is small and cute, I see a TV, let's do it! We parked right out front and walked in to a decently crowded tiny atmosphere. The bartender yelled out to us from across the bar welcoming us, telling us she would be right with us. We grabbed some stools in front of one of the TV's and our super peppy lady bartender came and fixed our drinks. The music was perfect for the type of bar we had strolled into for the game. Some late 80's early 90's punk rock--I asked the male bartender why they were not playing some Motor Head to honor Lemmy's departure that afternoon. Seemed like it would have been the perfect fit for the evening. Two of us decided to shoot pool. Now, I had no idea he would be as good as he was--final score 2-1 (him). Boo ;( Anyway, the tables were great, no wobbles, no warped pool sticks, no missing or stuck balls. Just great pool. I appreciate well kept pool tables. I love pool, even when I lose--which is not often! lol Back to the bar for more drinks. MNF was getting to a close, the Broncos pulled out a crazy move in OT without Manning for the win and we were all having so much fun. Whiskey Dick's is an ultra cool bar. Great spot for a Sunday night. It was just my cousin, her boyfriend and myself and there were about four other patrons there. Kirby was our bartender and I asked if there were any specials. He says it was Quentin Tarantino Sundays because they were watching one of his movies on of their many TVs. They had $1 off wells and a draft discount but I gave him the option to make me something he thought I would like. I like giving the bartenders on a slow night the opportunity to be creative. He made me a fruity drink that was not very sweet and very tall, plus he gave me the extra liquid in the tumbler when my glass had room. I'll take it. They have live bands on a raised stage, a pool table, shuffleboard and the electronic juke box. There are funny drinking signs all over the place, pictures of pinups on the bar top and unique bottles of liquors like a basil vodka, "Coldcock" and brands I've never heard before. I must be out of it. We had a great time. We even purchased their tank tops that said "At least our drinks are stiff." Awesome. I'm so wearing that to the gym. We left Whiskey Dick's and headed to the Lucky Beaver. It was a dirty kind of Sunday night for us and we had a blast. read more

There are a few things that I consider mandatory for me to call a place a good dive bar... 1. Good beer selections at good prices. 2. Strong drinks at good prices. 3. Bartenders who are down to Earth people you would hang out with. 4. Bar games like pool, darts. Whiskey Dicks has all this plus live music and shuffleboard! Cool vibe. Cool locals. Great bar. The good: the prices and the local vibe is great. They have darts (but the only loaners they have are those plastic jobs so BYO if you like to play) and pool and shuffleboard. Cool bartenders that treated us well even though we were all dressed up to go out to dinnner later. The bar decorations are great too. The bad: nothing. This is definitely a local spot.... and a death metal spot. My two guy friends thought the name was funny.. so we decided to meet another friend there for a drink... they have a 20 dollar minimum on credit cards...and automatically take a 20% gratuity if you leave it there over night... now we know the rules... what about the crowd. We had one guy flip us off for no reason.. sure we can manage whatever Then there was slipknot dude. He was playing pool by himself and talking to the skull that was on his pool cue. Had a great time here, we were looking for Streamers but they were closed so we decided to come here, and I am glad we did. They have free pool and Wednesdays and nightly drink specials. I was pleasantly surprised to find a dive bar with a happy hour, I think from 4p-8p. The drinks were all great and at a great price. The bartender was extremely nice and stirred us away from the nasty drink specials that were on the menu. They do not have food but you can order food from Fat Cat and they will bring it over and allow you to eat it at the bar. The food there was off the chain, and they also have a daily specials. All in all next time I am in South Lake Tahoe is will be a spot I will be visiting! So if your in the area check this place out! read more

And lots of $2 beers (sorry, as of two weeks ago, the bevy of $1.50 beers have been up'd to $2) yeah, I know, rough, right? Great microbrew selection too and also, great prices. I love Whiskey Dick s and I can honestly say unlike most others when I get fully enveloped with Whiskey Dick s I can't help but hammer out an entire evening here. It literally takes me forever to bust out of here. It's like am explosion that once it happens you're both relieved and burnt. And, there's this super gorgeous bartender who looks just like a dear friend of mine which brought comfort and ease to penetrating three sheer joy that Whiskey Dick s brings. This is definitely a local's spot. Monday's are free pool nights. There are two pool table, ping pong, two steel tip dart boards, a shuffle board table and a number of tv's across the bar. There's a pretty full bar here but most folks seem to be drinking beer here. Some of the new brews here are Lagunitas Equinox Pale Oat Ale, Firestone Wookie Jack Black Rye and Jack 7's Panic. Common pours are jagermeister and Jameson. Adrian is pretty chill, their Tuesday night bartender. This is a real divey spot, no dress code or anything. Apparently they also hold concerts here. It's a chill spot. Stop on in if you like a wide variety of beers to choose from. I stopped in for a game of cricket, a quick pint, and a lil taste of local South Tahoe before heading back home to SoCal. read more

I read a couple bad reviews and ignored them thinking they came from people who may not enjoy a good dive bar. But they were right. Rude bartender that barely acknowledges you if you aren't a local. It's tiny, only 2 pool tables and one shuffleboard table dominated for the night by the good ol' boys. If you're visiting and looking for a place to let loose and have fun I would consider a different location. read more

Creepy racist vibe. Especially the female bartender with long hair. Got tipped well but still went out of her way to be rude and unwelcoming. My wife asked her about missing pool balls we paid to use and her response was "I guess you got jacked!" We would not recomend. Not even for tahoe. read more

So this isn't a review for the bar but for the chick bartender on sat night 6/29/19. The one with the long pony tail . Not the awesome girl with the lip pierce who was on her game. I was waiting at the bar to order a drink, I had my cash in my hand, leaning up against the bar... NOT waving it around! This chick looks at me and says I don't respond to people waving money at me, looks away, and walks to the next customer. The guy next to me saw her " nastiness " and actually ordered and bought my beer. I was a bartender in Sf at hi-dives, low-dives, mom & pop spots, and clubs for 8 years and in food and bev for 16. This kinda service is so unwarranted and she doesn't deserve a Sat night shift. I'd demote her to coat check..... or better yet ... bathroom attendant. read more

There are two dive bars in South Lake Tahoe and neither are very friendly. Whiskey Dicks is where the younger locals go. I actually came here a few times over the course of a weekend and besides the friendly staff the only people that talked to us were a couple from out of town and one drunk girl that didn't even remember us when we saw her the next day. This place reminds me a lot of Lucky 13 in SF. They have a great beer selection. One afternoon we were the only customers in there so the bartender taught us to play shuffleboard and it was a blast. read more
