3431 Bannerman Road..new location. When you check in, no need to leave a tip. We did but it was all self service. You have to pay an extra $3.99 if you want a drink and small bag of chips. We had to move because the tables had used toothpicks on them. There was 1950s music playing. For four people, the total was $69. The Rueben sandwich had about 1/2 inch of meat and was barely 1/2" high including the sauerkraut! It was served with paper and a toothpick. The chicken cashew salad had four pieces of cashew and it was about 1/16 of the size of a big nut. The bread came apart and you could not eat it with your hands. It was on a thin paper plate. It was so the thinnest possible layer of chicken and was not Bibb lettuce but cheap shredded iceberg lettuce. The two salads were served in styrofoam and were boring and cheap. This all cost us $69 for a cheap poorly made lunch. read more

I got my wife a cookies and cream cake from here for her birthday. I used to work at their Market street location in college and I fell in love with their pastries back then. I love their cookie bars but there is something about that cookies and cream cake. The owner makes all the cakes from scratch and they are very good. read more

It disappoints me to have to write this as the sweet gal behind the register was so nice and did everything right. Unfortunately the person preparing the food did not bother to read anything she wrote down. I have a severe onion allergy which was notated and even verified so when we got home and I ate my sandwich you can imagine how I felt when I not only found an onion slice in there but ingested one! Thankfully it is not a life threatening allergy but made me sick as a dog and on a heating pad all day in between cramps and bathroom visits. What bothered me more than anything was when I called and politely told them what had happened the gal behind the counter was so upset and apologetic and assured me that by taking my phone number I'd have a call from the manager...NEVER HAPPENED! Kindness goes a long way and guess they figured I'm only one unimportant customer. Wrong answer Hopkins as you've lost our entire family and have let it be known all over Facebook. Certainly at this point Hopkins is a staple for Tallahassee and as I hadn't been in a while, I thought I would pay Homage. It's like it is frozen in time. When you walk, it hasn't changed much and I must say there is something quite comforting in that consistency. There is a certain degree of nostalgia present here. Hummer was my goto a while back, but today I went with the Linda. It was exactly as I remembered it, the marbled rye was fresh, no staleness in the crust as can happen in sandwich shops, a telltale sign of attention to detail. Tomatoes were juicy and freshly sliced and sprouts (which can be hard to find these days) were on point as well. Service was on fast and efficient, kitchen looked shiny, employees are just as I remembered them as well, a bit eclectic, great experience! My ONE critique, I got a cup of corn chowder, the flavor profile of which was VERY good, a spike of dill seasoning it up nicely, BUT, the consistency was quite watery, flavor was still good, not watered down but I, personally, would expect a thicker consistency to a "chowder" I'm assuming they did not use the typical roux liaison' to leave the door open for the gluten free, completely understandable, though I wish I would have been alerted to this as I feel most people would associate a thicker soup when referring to a chowder. Aside from that mild hiccup Hopkins has managed to maintain their identity over a span of many years, not an easy feat in the restaurant graveyard we call Tallahassee, I'm impressed and appreciative. Hopkins is a not so secret gem to locals but, if you're from out of town, don't miss it! The sandwiches are original and unique from the Chicken Cordon Bleu to the vegetarian Garden sandwich filled with delicious ingredients topped with bean sprouts. However, my go to favorite is the popular Walnut Gorgonzola salad. Filled with lettuce, sugared walnuts, gorgonzola cheese, mandarin oranges and topped with red onions and croutons, their signature balsamic dressing sets off perfectly. I added the grilled chicken and it was more than filling. They have a wide selection of salads like the chicken tetrazzini...chicken, pasta and FLAVOR. My husband had the split pea soup and loved it. It's filled with ham, peas, tomatoes, potatoes, carrots...tons of flavor and very filling. Another star at Hopkins is their tea with a twist...a mint twist! Made fresh daily, it's refreshing and thirst quenching. Service is always friendly and prompt, sometimes they get busy and if there's a slip up, they're happy to fix it. I especially love groovin' to THE 70's music, Jimi and Janis and The Moody Blues are faves while enjoying lunch. It has been a while since I have been to Hopkins, and the establishment I usually visit is the one located on Market Street. In any case, met my daughter for lunch at the North Monroe location. It was hard choosing which sandwich to order, but went with the ultimate turkey for myself (half sandwich) and a cup of potato soup; my daughter ordered the chunky chicken melt with chips. The sandwiches were very tasty, but not the most "appetizing looking"; in this case, I can truly say don't let the looks fool you. Though we enjoyed the sandwiches, it took way longer than usual to prepare two sandwiches. I had to go back to the counter to ask if they had forgotten about us. Though the young lady who took our order and the young man who checked on the order when I went back to the counter were very nice/pleasant, I am still not sure why it took so long. My daughter happened to be on her lunch break and she had to kind of rush through her meal after we finally got our order. I am not sure, but it seemed as if my sandwich may have been popped in the microwave for a few seconds to give it some "heat." I don't usually do "soggy lettuce", but it just would have been too messy to try to take the lettuce off and we didn't have time to try to re-order. Still, I go back to the sandwich being good in spite of :o). Interestingly, when I went back to the counter to ask about the order, I was given the cup of soup to "tide me over." Though the soup was tasty, it was not as "piping hot" as I expected, as evident by the fact that the shredded cheese on top never really melted. Still, I am sure that I will be back but will plan to visit a different location; perhaps this makes a difference. Hopefully, next time, the wait won't be too long, the sandwiches will be made properly, and the soup will be a bit hotter. :o) Of note, would have given another star if not for the very slow service. read more

The general manager for this establishment is completely unprofessional and disrespectful!! I'm a door dasher and apparently they recently stopped accepting doordash orders. Today, I received an order from here but I attempted to call them first, just to double check. Because if I cannot complete an order I have to contact Door Dash and let them know the establishment is either closed or not accepting orders. Door Dash then has to cancel the order for me, so I can continue working. The general manager answered the phone. I asked very politely "Hi, I just wanted to see if you guys are still no longer accepting door dash orders?" This man began raising his voice and said "You know what? I have repeatedly told you all to stop coming here, we don't do door dash orders anymore. Stop f*cking coming here....." Before he could continue speaking to me in such an unprofessional and disrespectful manner I hung up, in disbelief!! I am completely disgusted by the vulgar behavior he displayed!! I've never eaten here before, I was actually going to try it this weekend with my family. Because we love to try new places every weekend. Visited after 18-month hiatus. Had an Italian sandwich on a white sub roll. The roll was not very good: chewy and gummy outside, stale-ish crumb inside. The sandwich was assembled by people unfamiliar with sandwich-making: Meat slices packed together solidly, undistributed across the roll; tomatoes thick-sliced, too thick for a sub; mayonnaise slathered so thick that it constituted a lubricant rather than a condiment. In all a return to Tallahassee of the 1970s, a place of "wop salads" and "kosher ham" sandwiches, from which the old Hopkins represented a huge step up. Quite a decline. read more

Let me start by saying that Hopkins has been one of my favorite local eats for years. Always great food and kind customer service. Most recently the Lake Ella location has been a less than pleasant experience. My husband and I met there for a late lunch and had to wait over 30 mins for our order, while others that came in later were served before us. The most recent time we waited 35 mins for a grilled chicken sandwich and when he inquired for the second time about his food the cook; who was standing behind the register and not in the kitchen, said "they are pulling it off now sir" ...while he went back to the kitchen and threw the food on the grill. They kindly returned our money but they cannot return his time. We will not be returning to this location. read more

Being that this Hopkins is so close to where I work, I come here a few times a month. The sandwiches that keep me coming back for more - The Guac and the Humdinger. I looove sandwiches, and when they've got two of my favorite things in them, what's not to like! It helps that some sandwiches come in half-portions - I would never be able to eat an entire Hopkins sandwich without regretting my overly full stomach later. I've enjoyed the mint tea, and the employees have always been friendly, even when I fax over an order for my office that has been vague and incomplete (thanks, managers!) But they've always helped me fix anything that needed fixing in those orders. The reason for the 4 stars is some little things - I wish they'd use leaf lettuce rather than the shredded stuff, it's too easy for it to fall out in one of those overpacked sandwiches! Also, I enjoyed their tuna sandwich, but it was a little (okay, maybe more than a little) on the greasy side when I got it - I didn't enjoy having to aim the many grease drips so that none landed on my clothes, but when I got home my cats loved me! All in all, I recommend Hopkins for the sandwich lover. Tasty bread and fillings make me a happy camper! read more

I've eaten here many times. I usually order the chicken tetrazzini salad or grilled chicken salad. Both are delicious and I love their house dressing. Because of the cold weather I opted for the black bean soup and half a sandwich- the chunky chicken melt. Both are delicious! If you've never given this place a try it's worth it! I suggest getting there around 11 for lunch or after 1. The place gets crowded however the service is always fast. read more

Yes the food is Good but tonight the service was insulting. I walk in with a friend and no one is at the counter. But a young lady at the kitchen entrance with headphones on and watching something on her phone sees us. She turns her back to us and keeps watching what is on her phone. After a few minutes we both shout out hello. Apparently annoyed the young lady walks to the back of the kitchen maintaining her back to us and keeps watching her phone and is laughing loudly. First time here and I enjoyed it very much. Had the Cuban sandwich and the Hawaiian. Both were very good; the Cuban is served hot off of the press and it tastes pretty close to a Media Noche, the Hawaiian was my favorite..had lots of cheese and pineapple. What happened??? I wanted to puke mainly because I spent so much money on me and my wife and the food sucked. We went around 4:30pm during the week, this was months ago. Wife got a burger, I got some turkey sandwich that was supposed to be soo good, black bean soup, and two soft drinks, we spent close to $30 and hated it. There was no manager or person in charge that I could see, just a girl up front and some kid in the back. It sucked!!! I am still mad about this bad food, and money loss. Stopped by for a bite on our road trip back to Tampa. Sandwiches were tasty, but for a deli, it was lacking the deli feel - anyone can make a sandwich at home, but the reason I'd go to a deli shop is to get a sandwich that I can't make at home; or something that would require an extra amount of time for me to achieve. For example, a deli can offer toasted bread, or pressed sandwiches. At the very least a pickle spear! This place has a creative menu of sandwiches, salads and also grilled items that are not available at the Market Street location (like grilled salmon and burgers and a portobello mushroom sandwich.) There are plenty of vegetarian options. The iced tea is wonderful - spearmint perhaps? Open for lunch and dinner, closed Sundays and holidays. Year round they make a daily home made soup now. I have been eating at Hopkins Eatery since 1989. I know that all of their food is fabulous. Occasionally I'll have the meatloaf sandwich which tastes just like my mom's. But for 30 years I can't stop from ordering my favorite Garden Sandwich with meaty cheese and wonderfully nutty sprouts on a dark pumpernickel bun. Heated to perfection. So I had a strange experience. Ordered the spin and it came out like tortilla style thin. I wouldn't call this a sandwich.
