    Tuesday night trivia!
    Sydney M.

I love Hoppin! I usually come on Tuesdays for Trivia and honestly have the best time! Parking can be a bit tough, but thats Charlotte for ya! When you check in with the front, they collect a card for a tab and provide you a tap bracelet for your pours! I always enjoy making my round thru the options down and upstairs! Yes, there is an upstairs! They have a cute patio/outside seating too for when the weather isn't unbearable (fall/winter time). Trivia starts at 7, and Hailey is an AMAZING host!! Some weeks are themed and others are just fun random knowledge! The staff is super nice and accommodating - whatever questions about the beer you have, they can answer!! If you havent been to Hoppin yet, pick a day to go (but pick Tuesdays for a little extra fun!)

Whenever I'm in Southend, I enjoy going to hoppin they have a wide variety of beers, wine and mimosas. Recently they added a blocker so that you can get shot and other drinks such as gummy bear or frozen lemonade with vodka. There's always live music and very outgoing atmosphere and dogs are welcome as well. They do offer food, in case you get hungry and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the products.

I went here with a friend on a Friday night. This place was nice and clean. When you arrive they give you a wrist band and you give the cashier a card for it to charge your drinks at the end of the night. This place is dog friendly. They have food trucks outside. They have a variety of 60 beers on tap that you pour yourself. They also have some wines and a full bar. The staff was friendly the space was nice and chill they have games for people to play. They have indoor and outdoor seating. This place is cool to come for a vibe or to just grab a drink and chill for a second. This is street parking available. It would be best to park in the parking garage and walk over.l to the place because parking can be limited.

Stopped in for Mingo(music bingo) such a fun time. They have a nice amount of seating and a variety of beers 62 on tap!!! If you're up for a fun Wednesday night, come grab beer a cocktail or tacos from the food truck. Must try the shrimp tacos!

Went here with a bunch of friends. It was a fun experience that they let you take beers from tap and use their bands to tap and create an account. They had bunch of local beers but they could Work more on their ambience. It was a little mundane.

Great concept! So you provide your credit card upon entry and they give you the keys to the taps! Dangerous indeed. The concept sounds great...but they the actual execution had some challenges. The wristband to activate the taps doesn't work well and the sometimes the keg is really foamy or running out so you have to get someone to take it off your bill. They were accommodating....but it wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. It won't keep me from coming back again!

This place is legit. You check in and are given a wrist fob to try the dozens of wine and ale options. You scan the fob and you then pour your beverage of choice and are charged by the ounce. It keeps a running tab and allows you to keep track of it. Once done, you turn your fob back in and close out your tab. I highly recommend this place. The fruit ales are pretty on point.

The atmosphere at hoppin is one to beat. From the menu to the service you'll have an amazing experience. Jeff and Jacob are your go to guys. Jeff is the sweetest and offers the best experience and Jacob is your go to bartender and makes just about anything and everything he makes is simply the best. Found my new go to spot!

Always a good time . This was my first time on the weekend and the music was playing , games were on the tv and it was a nice crowd. I love the concept and just trying new stuff anddddd my bill is so cheap. Not a fan of the dog thing but so many Charlotte venue welcomes the furry people.

I'm not a big beer drinker (honestly I don't like it) but Hoppin opened my eyes. This was my first time at Hoppin and I decided to come on their one year anniversary. The concept is pretty cool. You give them your id and a credit card when you arrive. They give you a wristband that controls the dispensers. You grab a glass and can choose from beer, wine or cider. Then when you're ready to go you return your wrist band and cash out. There is a penalty if you lose/don't return the band and an automatic gratuity charged to your card. You can also do a fast check out where you leave your wrist band in a bin and your card is charged and an automatic gratuity. The place was packed for the anniversary party. There was barely any place to sit and it was hard to maneuver around to the dispensers. There was also a private party upstairs that was roped off and you weren't able to get to some of the dispensers. I was never able to find the ciders but did try a kombucha and a fruit beer. I still had a fun time and actually found a beer I like!! I love Hoppin concept because I can actually try a bunch of beer and not have to pay an arm and a leg for something I don't like. I will def be back in the near future!!! Hoppin 1402 Winnifred St Charlotte, NC 28203 Saturday February 23, 2019 7:30pm

Walking in on a Friday night!

Bookmarked this location when they first opened and couldn't wait to come visit. The place was definitely one to remember... Parking is going to take some planning. As with any place in South End, parking on the street or catching an Uber/Lyft may be the best option. You can park on Bland St. and walk over if you're not able to find parking on any of the side streets that aren't private parking for the local residents. When we walked in, we were greeted by the young lady at the first register who asked if we'd been before and proceeded to thoroughly explain the concept once we told her that we were newbies. She was super pleasant! There was live music, as it was Friday evening. Weirdly enough, I couldn't really hear the music from the street... but once I got inside, it was super loud on the lower level... so if you go during the evening then be prepared to talk at an elevated level. When you first walk in, there is a nice wall to your right that has beer, but if you want something more subtle... there are selections around the corner. There were two gentlemen that were in the area were readily available to answer any questions or make suggestions, if you're unsure. I also appreciated the fact that they had Cranberry and Orange just available... because who said mimosas are just for breakfast?! There are two levels with an outside patio part. If you're wanting to find an intimate area to sit with a special person, then head upstairs. You can still hear the music, there is a wall of beer selections (fewer but still convenient so you don't have to walk downstairs) and there are nice cozy couches available for you to relax on. However, I did notice that if you were drinking wine, then you would have to go back downstairs to refill, as it's only beer upstairs (I could've missed it, so go see and let me know if I'm just blind). Lastly, THEY HAVE WIFI! There are a few places that "offer" wifi but it never works. The signal here was strong and the sign with the password was located at the bottom of the stairs. Overall, this was a nice addition to the beer scene in South End and because it's me doing the pouring, I had just the amount I wanted of two beer selections, for $4. Can't beat that! I will more than likely go back with friends that come in town to visit.

    Nice chill spot.

The atmosphere was very relaxed. Of course the main thing I liked was the fact that it's a self-serve bar. That way you don't have to wait when it's crowded to be served. The staff was very friendly, and informative. The only thing I dislike about this place, is a fact that they allow pets on the first floor. The customers play with these dogs, rub on them, pick them up and do everything that you can think of with a dog..... .then turn right around and head to the self-serve bar without washing their hands. I didn't get a chance to try any of the food from the food truck, but my friends did and they enjoyed it.

Ask the Community - Hoppin' Charlotte

Is it kid friendly? And since food is not served, can we bring outside food in?

Hey Sherry, we do allow young kids under 10 during the day on weekends and during the early evenings during the week. We do get very busy Fridays and Saturdays so just be cautious of those days.

Do they serve food / snacks?

They don't serve food. But they do have menus for a food truck that is down the street and a pizza place that will deliver.

They give you a wristband that links to your credit/debit card and that's how you track what you pour for yourself.

One was a small side Caesar salad which I got. I was disappointed in the continuing practice for restaurants to charge for small changes like this within informing the customer. Waitress was very nice, however and attentive. What is also quite unique about the restaurant was that you could order small 4 oz beers, just for tasting at $2-3 each. The place is quite large and must get incredibly noisy at times with the hard surfaces and multiple TVs. There is an option to sit directly at the bar or at tables.

The wings were AMAZING, and the sliders were absolutely delicious! They were so good that I devoured them before I even thought to take a picture! Unfortunately, the pierogies were the one disappointment, especially since they were actually the main reason I decided to order from here. They were a bit too greasy for my taste. After eating two, I ended up placing the rest on a paper towel to absorb some of the excess oil, which unfortunately made them less enjoyable. That being said, I would definitely eat at The Degenerate again. I'd happily order the wings and sliders again, but I would probably skip the pierogies next time unless they're one of those dishes that are simply better enjoyed fresh at the restaurant rather than as takeout. Overall, there were definitely more hits than misses, and those sliders and wings alone are worth another visit!

That was just half a day in, so naturally, I started feeling like Charlotte had passed me a note, "I like you, stay longer." The one thing I failed to respect was the Carolina summer sun. I desperately needed a hat. Sure, I could have gone to Target or the bike shop I passed earlier, but any civilized man knows the best place to buy a cap is a brewery. Untappd pointed me toward one of the most popular breweries in a city full of popular breweries: Burial Beer Co. Since I was driving, I kept things responsible and sampled taster-sized pours, spacing them out with non-alcoholic mocktails and 0.0 beer like a grown man who still wanted to remember where he parked. Burial also offers cocktails, ICEEs, low-ABV session beers, THC beverages, wine, and self-serve water. The menu helps you navigate the offerings with color-coded sections: cocktails in blue, light-bodied beers in neon green, dark ales in orange, and high-ABV options in pink. Food isn't available onsite, but delivery gets the green light. I grabbed a corner seat at the bar, not because I wanted to brood, but because the post-brunch crowd had arrived in full force with babies, buddies, and dogs. Every bartender and guest I spoke with treated me like I had wandered into a neighborhood clubhouse instead of a brewery. They gave recommendations, bought me a drink, and one even helped me pick out a hat. Southern hospitality is alive and well at Burial Beer Co., a place that turned a shopping trip into a welcome party, proving that Charlotte knows how to beat the heat with good pours, good people, and better merch.

I had been drinking, but I was completely coherent, able to communicate normally, and was not slurring my words, falling over, or behaving disorderly. Despite this, the bouncer immediately assumed I was too intoxicated to enter and refused me entry. What really bothered me was the way the situation was handled. The bouncer grabbed my arm and physically escorted me away from the entrance in a way that felt unnecessarily aggressive and humiliating. I understand that bouncers have a responsibility to make judgment calls about intoxication and safety and I have no issue with being denied entry if they genuinely believe someone is too intoxicated. There is, however, a respectful way to handle these situations. What made the experience even more upsetting was what he said to my friend afterward. He told him that they "don't allow people like her in here." I understand he may have been referring to my level of intoxication, but that wording was extremely inappropriate. As someone who is half Asian, I found the comment particularly concerning and it honestly felt discriminatory regardless of what his intent was. I left feeling extremely uncomfortable and embarrassed by the way I was treated. Being denied entry is one thing, being treated disrespectfully and spoken about in that way is another. Unfortunately based on this experience I would not feel comfortable returning.
