After several tries (please note the business hours) we finally made it to Hops 44, and I was glad we did. The UConn students had dispersed for the summer and service was excellent. I can only imagine the sound level... They had a large collection of games by the door to keep you amused while consuming liquid and other refreshments. The beer selection was large and quite varied, and the barbecue selections most tempting. I got the three taco barbecue assortment (each one tastier than the last), son swiftly enveloped his cheeseburger and fries, and my wife enjoyed a pulled pork sandwich. It was the sort of meal you would have savoured again if you weren't so delightfully full. We SHALL return!

Out on the beer trail todays stop was Hops 44. I come to toast 4 corners all the time but I failed to notice that this was right next door. One of CT finest craft beers and award winning pub menu, although I was only here for beer.. I'll be back soon to try the food with an updated review. It's a great place to hang out... they have a wall fully stacked with fun games... You can level it up and your sure to have a great time. I tried a flight of lagers, Pilsner and pale ales. I liked all of them but my fav was the "Orange crusher" (American light lager) a refreshing drink with hints of fresh cirtus to beat the heat wave. The price point is kept low and reasonable considering it's a waterhole for UConn student crowd. They have indoor/ outdoor seating. Plenty parking space and tucked away from all the hustle and bustle. I'll definitely be coming here often.

Stuffed Pretzel - Chicken Bacon Ranch

Okay pretzels, okay wings. Nice location, but muted flavors UConn tends to be a bit crazy when school is in session. So we were looking for good food to try that was a little more off the beaten path. This place had some rave reviews, so we decided to give this place a go. The restaurant was moderately busy, had outdoor seating on a beautiful day. We got a smattering of their dining options: A Stuffed Pretzel, a Hops dog, Some of their famous wings, and some pretzel oreos. One thing that you learn quickly is this location loves it's wings and pretzels. It proudly announces that it's the runner-up from hartford magazine's "best wings" for two years running. So the bar was set high, as was the price point. They also had a good chunk of their menu dedicated to their pretzel offerings. So it seemed like this place would be able to put out very good pretzels and wings. They were not bad, but not great either. Very ho-hum. The hops dog hot dog was good, the pretzel was lacking the golden sheen and salt one would expect from this type of dog. We get a beer cheese sauce, which was lacking the beer and cheese flavor. The stuffed pretzel was more like a bread bowl with two pretzel tines across it. the flavors inside were good, if anything there was some gristly chicken bits and not that much bacon flavor. The wings were small, and the wings were sticky, sweet, and a pretty good barbeque sauce. However, any semblance of heat that the buffalo sauce provided was lost. Which is something the wings really needed: it needed spice. The pretzel oreos were sweet but very one note. I was hoping for a sweet and salty combo, maybe even some buttery notes. but they put both powered sugar and cocoa powder on top of them which made the experience much harder to enjoy. as a food location, it's not bad but not great either. It's fine if you're looking for a quick meal, but everything needed some seasoning and some minor execution tweaks to make everything tasty.

EO Smith Class Reunion dinner at #Hops44 June 2025

Hops44 hosted our EO Smith High school reunion dinner this summer. It was a great venue with inside and outside seating. Food and service was great! Everyone enjoyed this evening event at #Hops44.

We stopped by for a quick bite as we were dropping my son off at college. This place or pub (I guess) is insanely huge. It it surrounded with TV's, games and so on... it definitely has its own vibe and the coolest thing is they have their own name for their drafts- and the names pretty inventive. My son had a chicken BLT, I had a chicken BLT as well but modified: GF bun and I substituted the mayonnaise for pesto (it was delicious). My husband had a Philly steak & cheese with mushrooms (no peppers) and he said it was ok. No french fries served, everything came with chips but they were really good. Our waiter was pleasant but a bit inattentive especially since there was only a handful of people there at the time we went. Will be back to try other foods again.

Some of the best pulled pork I've had in my life. Great spot near UConn. Would recommend if in the area!

THE FOOD My friend and I decided to go here for the $10 beer & burger lunch special advertised every Tuesday-Saturday. I frequently walk past the sign advertising their deal and when my friend said we should grab lunch I immediately suggested this spot for that reason. It was a Wednesday afternoon at 12:30, but unfortunately we were told we could not have the special since they don't do it on game days. The game wasn't until 7pm but it must be an all day game day thing. Disappointing but we moved on. Grilled chicken sandwich -nicely toasted bun, flavorful seasoned chicken, good aioli. If I came back I would eat it again. -fries were pretty good too. -after paying and looking at the receipt I realized I was charged more for the sandwich than what was printed on the menu (didn't say anything to them) Sweet & sour cauliflower -my friend enjoyed it. Said the sauce was good. They were small baby cauliflowers but a decent sized appetizer for one. Not much for a large table to share but fine for ~2 people. She wanted something small for lunch so it worked out well. THE DRINKS -after not being able to do the deal with the beer my friend went with the angry orchard on tap -I got a screwdriver. It was fine, a basic well drink. Didn't taste the vodka really so not sure how much their standard pour is. THE SERVICE -service was polite, attentive -we were the only ones in there for most of our time, so I'd be curious how service is when they get a bit busier. THE ATMOSPHERE -typical bar/restaurant vibe -nice bar, it seems like a cool place to hang out and watch the game Overall it was a nice lunch catching up with my friend and I'm glad I was able to check out the new location. The food and drinks were good--what you'd expect for a typical bar & restaurant and it's a nice, friendly, clean environment. If someone wanted to go back here I would join but it wouldn't be first on my list to recommend in Storrs Center. I ended up spending about $30 on a lunch I was expecting to spent around $13 on, so I'd say check the game day schedule so you aren't disappointed like us. Overall I'd probably rate this closer to 3.5 stars so I rounded up to 4.

Thus, this wasn't our first time here, but will definitely be our last. Getting a table wasn't a problem, as we were the third table to be seated in an otherwise empty restaurant at about 11:50 AM. Although we had a 5+ minute wait for the waitress to actually acknowledge we were waiting to be seated. After being seated, we watched as the two waitresses took orders, seated new arrivals, made drinks, and delivered food and beverages to all of the tables that came after us. We waited 30 minutes before we were able to get the attention of the waitress who originally sat us to ask if we could have our orders taken or even just some water. She wasn't having any of it and snapped at us that there were only two of them working the whole place and walked away. We waited about 10 more minutes of no service before we left and went to a restaurant that knows how to properly staff on a game day. Bottom line: Not Recommended.

You could come…read morehere craving anything from pizza and grinders to authentic Greek apps and desserts to comforting soup to a quesadilla, and they're going to do it well. Even as a vegetarian, I feel like I have plenty of options to choose from. Service is always friendly and helpful, even when asking for substitutions. Their rewards program is great and adds up pretty quickly. Here are some highlights about a few menu items I've tried over the years: - Eggplant parm grinder: delicious, crunchy bread and tons of melted cheese - no longer available, but I really loved their Caesar Veggie Patty sandwich they used to have on a fresh ciabatta roll. I'd get it for takeout all the time during the pandemic, and it was a great meatless option with a unique flavor blend. Please bring this back!! - Tater tot side: tastes like McDonald's hash browns in the best way possible, so light and fluffy. I could probably eat a bucket of these and they were cooked to perfection! - Side salads / any salad: always fresh, and the parmesan peppercorn dressing is my favorite version of it I can get anywhere! - Meatless wings (aka cauliflower bites): tons of sauces to choose from, and a unique offering I don't see often. The portion is huge! I love the parmesan garlic option but they're quite oily, so if you're getting takeout, beware - and have friends to split with because you'll get a ton! Tasty but I never need more than a few pieces worth - great to share. I also got a margarita flight today for their Sunday special, making it only $12 for 3 flavors that you can choose. They were sweet and not too boozy tasting, yet strong, and went down easily - I was impressed! Their beer and drink special menu is always changing and I can always find quality and unique offerings. The only thing I'd wish would be different is the ambiance. It's just always so dang dark in here, it makes me tired and feel like I'm in a much divier place than I am. They also always have this habit of seating you directly across from the one or two other occupied booths, so it feels like your neighbor can hear everything you're saying when it's not as busy. I really hate that and would appreciate more privacy! We also hate when we're seated in the first room by the entrance - it feels like such an afterthought, and sometimes staff is sitting in a booth right near you rolling silverware...just seems like you're not supposed to be there. Some of the booths by the bar are really small, and even when I'm the only one on my side, it feels like I'm about to fall out sideways, so I ask for a larger booth. The food and menu options here are truly great! My family requests to come here often. I just desperately want another light fixture or two and some more personal space while dining. Happy hour specials are also great, but they're not joking when they say you HAVE to sit at the bar for them! (Again a less nice atmosphere when you do that) Thanks for all the yummy memories, RRC, you're a much needed gem in the area!
