15/10. The star of the show was the butter chicken which was perfectly flavored paired with the naan it melted in the mouth. The goat biryani was a nice accompaniment and it was food heaven. Both dishes were kept hot which I appreciated. The lamb came out on a sizzling tray with smoke - seasoned to perfection. Small portion for the price. Our appetizers were probably my least favorite - good, but I wish the were hotter in temperature as if they were sitting or not made as fresh. The vegetable Manchurian had your typical Manchurian sauce which paired nice with the crisp of the vegetable fritter. I would recommend going for my usual cauliflower Manchurian next time. The samosa chaat was good - a lot of texture but the yogurt made the dish relatively cold. Maybe because it was cold outside I really preferred something warmer. The restaurant decor is nothing to rave about - it gives very much so hole in the wall but you're not going for that. You're going for the food. Our waiter was soooo kind and had a pleasant smile. Visiting from out of town and had dinner here and it was hands down delicious. We ordered samosas, lentil soup (so good and a must try), chicken chilli (sweet), lamb vindaloo spicy (my fav) and chettinad chicken (medium spice), everything was really delicious but my faves were the lentil soup, lamb vindaloo (spicy) and the chicken chili (sweet). The flavors are so succulent, and food was. The perfect pick me up cozy comfort I was looking for. Service was very fast. Food came out hot. If your are considering, give them a try! Highly recommend. Restaurant was not initially crowded but quite a number of guests joined half way through the meal. They have a decent number of seats inside and a drink menu as well. read more

If you don't have a few extra minutes, then this isn't the place to go. I do enjoy the authentic music in the background, but it was way too hot in there. Stopped in on a whim. Definitely nothing to look at. None of the TV's were on, nothing on the walls, very cold inside. When we arrived there was a gentleman on the phone. We had never been there before so we didn't know how the seating worked. He just stared at us so we sat ourselves. Apparently he was the only one. After about 10-15 minutes of waiting for him to check out people he finally came back and took our order. Chicken Tikka, chicken with cilantro, calamari, chicken tenders and samosa chat. Once ordered the food came out hot and fast within 15 minutes. Everything was excellent. Suggestion would be to have the samosa chat slightly warm instead of cold. Prices were good. First time trying Indian food and it was recommended by a friend. ABSOLUTELY delicious. Chicken tikka was so rich and just amazing.. can't even describe the taste but it was so good especially w the garlic naan. i ordered it medium spicy but it wasn't spicy at all): The coconut curry was also AMAZING like i might like it better than the tikka. We also got it medium spicy and it was a good kick (unlike the tikka) but not too spicy either. The onion naan was oooookayy probably wouldn't order it again. It tastes good alone but not really with the dishes. Portions look small but it was SOOOO MUCH. and i eat a lot.. i was surprised about how filling it was -- not to mention the unlimited basmati rice. Actually soo delicious definitely recommend. Ate here tonight as we were passing through town. We LOVED it! We appreciated the attention from the staff, including Raj, who made my Rice Pudding Martini--yum! The food portions were excellent and tasty. I asked for an item not on the menu and they happily obliged. Also, my husband likes it HOT--that includes his food! Hehe! He said he wanted his food so hot that he'd be shedding tears and sweating and that's what he got! He cried the entire meal and was so happy! Been here twice now, both times during the "off" season when the kids at UConn are off school. Both times were pleasant. Food was good, and service was OK. Normally I'd give 4 stars, but in this case, the lack of options kind of counts against them, as does their slow service. That said it is probably one of the best place near the Storrs campus at UConn and I anticipate coming here more often. read more

The chicken tikka Marsala was very good. The sauce was very creamy and the chunks of chicken in it were big and cooked well. The spices were very fragrant and the food was filling. The rice came in a metal bowl which kept it nice and warm. Our server was also a very nice person, it was his first day. The service was decently fast. I've never had chicken tikka masala before this so I don't know how much of the deliciousness is attributable to the restaurant itself versus just the nature of the dish, but it was SO GOOD. Really flavorful and was a good size portion that came with lots of rice. The food was ready right on time and the staff was friendly. I love Indian cuisine and have been happy with the food served at the restaurants (NY, Providence, Worcester, Boston) where I've eaten. And though the food was really good at all those places, I didn't have GREAT come-back-twice-in -one-week Indian/Nepalese food until I dined at Katmandu in Storrs, CT. The cordial greeting, the beautifully set tables, the quiet thoughtful waiter, even the music combined to create an atmosphere that was both comfortable yet dignified. But the FOOD is the most important thing. The chef came and greeted us and asked us what would like. When I told him I wanted something that wasn't on the menu, with a particular sauce, he smiled and said, "I will make that for you!" And for the first time ever, the dishes we ordered were truly mild or truly medium in terms of spice. Everything- the rice, the main courses, the naan- was DELICIOUS and hot and beautifully presented. If you enjoy Indian cuisine, you have a treat in store (Storrs) for you!! read more

The food might have been good. But it took way too long to arrive. We called the restaurant and they said it was on its way but that the driver had other deliveries to make first. We waited. We waited. We waited. We contacted grub hub, assuming it was their driver. But actually, this restaurant uses its own drivers. So we waited. And waited. It finally arrived an hour after it was supposed to get here. The driver offered no explanation or apology. We opened the food up and some of the containers were cracked and had spilled all over the bag. We called the driver and he said he'd let the restaurant know. We've heard nothing from the restaurant. The remaining food that stayed sealed in its containers would have been tasty, except it was lukewarm and not as spicy as we had ordered. There are other Indian restaurants in town. read more

This place had some of the best takeout I've ever had! It was deliciously, richly flavored and, as I haven't had the chance to try a lot of Nepalese food before, allowed me to try some new and wonderful dishes. We got the Vegetable Chettinad, the Bhindi Masala, and the Himalayan Samosa. The sauce in the Chettinad was creamy, exquisite and perfectly spiced and the Bhindi Masala had a rich and resonant flavor and featured okra. The people who own Kathmandu clearly care about the quality of the food and the experience of their diners, and don't skimp on any step along the way. I would highly recommend this place for anyone who's tried Indian food and likes it, because I think Kathmandu's offerings of both Nepalese and Indian cuisine would appeal to the Indian food lover. read more

We had to order takeout from this restaurant because of the pandemic going on but we wanted Indian food. (We live in Putnam, CT. There is no nearby Indian food. Very sad. But, we had reason to be in Storrs and found this place recommended on the web.) We ordered a variety of entrees to have lots of leftovers and we're glad we did. The samosas were very warm and tasty and so was the naan. But the entrees really shined. As good Indian food should they all had distinct flavors and were appropriately spicy (as we specified). The bigan bharta was especially tasty. Since this was a to-go order, I will note that it was all packaged well and the manager spoke with us about providing delivery service were we to make such a big order (~$65) again. Not sure if we'll take that offer but it is possible we'll have another appointment in Storrs and will definitely visit this restaurant. At around 40 min. away, it is not that bad for a special trip. There were two other people there at the same time (around noon) and a third was showing up as we left. (While UCONN is shut down. It was eerie how empty Storrs was at that time of day.) That alone tells us that this is a well-thought of restaurant. read more

I came here with a couple friends last night. No idea that the place served halal lamb and goal, plus chicken upon request. My Nepali friends wanted me to try Momo so I gave it a shot. We ordered the chicken Momo that came with two different sauces. I thought the Momo was a bit bland and lacked flavor. That being said, we also ordered paneer makhni as medium spice and plain as well as garlic naan. This dish came with rice and was very flavorful. The garlic naan was SO good, but definitely to the expensive side ($3.25). Overall - service was fast. I came here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon to enjoy the posted lunch buffet! It wasn't during the school year so it was easy to find parking on the street and didn't have a wait. The buffet had chicken and vegetarian options along with one goat dish. Everything was very good, especially the chili chicken. Kathmandu Kitchen & Bar is a gem tucked amongst the other new restaurant establishments in the Oaks development. My boyfriend and I came here for their $10.95 lunch buffet special on Friday afternoon and were greatly pleased with both the attentive service and the food. For starters, the waitstaff brought us a complimentary bowl of buttered naan (amazing!) and came by constantly to refill our water. In addition, he stopped by to ask us how the meal was going. The food was vibrant, and colorful. At the buffet, I sampled the fried potato samosa, vegetable biryani rice, lamb curry, spinach with potato (I forgot the precise name of this dish), chicken tikka masala, and chicken tandoori with roasted veggies. Every. Single. Dish. Was. Incredible! While the chicken in the tikka masala would have been a little juicier / less dry, I understand that it's mass cooked in a batch and there is very little the kitchen can do about it. However, the tikka masala sauce itself was excellent - spicy, and buttery. The lamb in curry was incredibly tender and had an excellent flavor, while not being overwhelmingly pungent. Regarding the spinach and potato dish, the potatoes were nicely spiced and the spinach mix (curry, maybe?) was seasoned very well; incredibly savory. The veggie biryani was soft, and paired well with the different sauces that I layered on top. Finally, the chicken tandoori was perfectly cooked and had a nice barbecued / grill flavor that added some smokiness. Furthermore, it was tender and separated from the bone as soon as I cut into it. While I didn't try the chutneys, it looked like Kathmandu provides a decent selection of chutneys, and they all looked fresh. In addition, if you are vegetarian, Kathmandu's lunch buffet has 5-6 excellent vegetarian entrees that all looked super appetizing - I was just too full from all the other dishes to sample them.
