Classic Carolina style hotdog, served "all the way." Don't let the photo throw you off; it's excellent

Hop's has been around forever and it's perfect for what it does. The menu is small town Carolina and the service is friendly, engaging and efficient. Great spot for bbq or hot dogs or whatever. The interior is dated with worn flooring but sparkling clean, and as an oddity, the inside of the building is much larger and comfortable than the cramped hole-in-the-wall you expect from seeing it on the outside. It can easily seat 80-100 people and the openness is amazing. I give it a solid five stars because it's just what it is and it does it as well as anywhere you're going to find.

Hop's Bar-B-Q is a welcoming place to dine today. The restaurant is seat yourself and a waitress will bring you a menu and take your order. The restaurant opened in 1952 and was part of a sit-in on January 27th 1964. I knew about the Woolworth "sit-in" in Greensboro NC. I did not realize that the success of that sit-in led to other sit-ins. The Asheboro sit-ins on Sunset Ave happened four years later as those businesses were still segregated. When the peaceful protesters were not allowed inside they circled around the building holding hands while laying on the ground so nobody else could enter. They were spit on, beaten and called names. Eventually 60 were arrested. North Carolina has an ugly history but I wanted to go here because this was where civil rights were fought for. I ordered the BBQ plate with fries and hushpuppies. The sauce was different than I had before. The sauce that came on the bbq was thicker than the extra sauce in the bottle as that was watery. It still tasted really good. The prices are very reasonable here as well. I'd return here for another meal.

So a group of us (3 adults and 2 kids) were super hungry and ready for an early lunch; we were out & about in Downtown Asheboro and decided to give Hops a try. We sat ourselves and chose a booth; nothing else to choose from really so if you're a big party, be prepared to be separated. We didn't care though, we were so hungry all five of us shoved ourselves into a booth. Our waitress was super friendly and helped us go over the menu, this was our first time dining here and we are all still a little bit new to authentic Southern cuisine. Our kids were pleased with grilled cheese, chicken tenders and french fries. I chose the special of the day which was chicken and dumplings; it came with two sides and I chose onion rings and macaroni & cheese. The hush puppies were delicious. I really enjoyed my meal, all of us at the table enjoyed picking at the onion rings and I thought the mac & cheese was very tasty. I would absolutely come back to Hops, I would get the chicken & dumplings again for sure and I definitely want to try breakfast. Thank you!

Nice people. Mom and Pop atmosphere. They have a wide selection, short order style. My daughter likes their hot dogs. I get a tomorrow sandwich with fries. Small restaurant, but bigger than it looks on the outside.

I walked in the door at about 6:25pm not knowing that they close at 6pm during the week. I was welcomed in before i realized this fact. I apologized and told them I was not a local and they took care of me :) most of the food was put away but I was offered a couple of BBQ sandwiches to go. The bun size was larger than most with a good amount of meat. The meat was large pulled pieces that were tender and warm laces with a drizzle of sauce and slaw. The slaw was minimal and not to overbearing; a good compliment, which I liked. As I waited for my sandwiches, a local was raving about it for 5 minutes and how people would travel from miles and miles away to get it. So I had to grab some on the side too. If I had to describe this sauce, I would call it the Mason/Dixon of Carolina's East/West debate. The sauce was a contradiction throughout; sweet and vinegary, spicy and mild, thick and thin. I loved it! I don't like to get food to go on my first visit but I had no choice. I will definitely try this place again to see if I can love more than the sauce. At this point I would rate it a 3.5 until I can get back and get a meal. My photo was taken in my car and does the sandwich no justice.

Nothing spectacular but decent food. Extremely friendly staff. BBQ was decent but the dumplings were extremely good. Reasonably priced.

It had crunch instead of being too wet or too mushy. The smashed potatoes were very good! Potatoes served like that aren't usually my thing but they were delicious and well seasoned. I ordered the shrimp and corn while my husband got the crab cakes. Some places are mostly filling with hints of crab, Full Moon was the opposite--maximum amount of crab with the right amount of "cake". The shrimp was great and perfectly steamed. The corn came out piping hot! The service was fantastic. The seating is mostly bar tops which is cool and allows for the service to be seamless. Honestly it felt like a beach vacation on a Tuesday. Our next visit will be on a Tuesday so I can try the all you can eat crab legs.

Even better than Mr Bs Bistro in New Orleans. Pair that with their free potato salad and coleslaw, and get their French bread loaf to dip into the sauce. That's an unforgettable meal. And to top it off the blackened branzino from their Friday special. I can't wait to get back there. As if the food wasn't enough, their service is top notch. A true 5 star restaurant experience crammed into a mom and pop hole in the wall price.

We went to arrive after the noon lunch but that didn't happen because the crowd kept coming. After throughly reading the menu I finally decided on the small plate of popcorn shrimp with a baked potato and coleslaw. Since it was my first time i wanted make sure the dish was good, and it was! When our order was delivered the oval plate was piled at least 3 inches high. I had asked for an extra plate to put the potato on so I would be able to prepare it for eating without pushing the shrimp off the plate and am I glad I did because the plate was so full I would have had to eat most of the shrimp. I was also impressed that while there was a large crowd, we were seated immediately and our orders were taken and served in a timely manner. During the short wait I saw that the staff jumped on a table to clean as soon as the guests walked away from the table. And the noise level was low and we could carry on a conversation without yelling. As an afterthought, maybe it was quiet because everyone was eat the great food. As we were leaving I saw a server bring out the regular size plate and almost fell over. It was on a round plate that looked to be 11 to 12 inches and loaded 2 or 3 inches high. As much as I can eat, I doubt I could have eaten all that! Great food, service, ambiance, what more can you ask for. I will be back soon.

We started with the spinach dip and everyone loved it. It came with these toasted bread bites that had a great seasoning and crunch to them. They kind of reminded me of an everything bagel but as a bread bite. This paired really nicely with the hot spinach dip. They also have a ton of coffee and tea options. I was a little bummed that did not have fountain sodas. My sister got a smoothie and really liked it. For my entree I got the Italian flatbread. It was a really nice combination of flavors with the sausage and peppers. I sampled my boyfriend's flatbread (pickled) and thought it was great as well! I really didn't know what to make of it all, and worried the food wouldn't be very good, since their focus seemed split in several directions. However, I tried several different things on the menu, and most of them did not disappoint. We split a Green Bacon Flatbread and Cajun Chicken Quesadilla, and I also got a side of mac and cheese and a strawberry smoothie. The flatbread was pretty good, although it did JUST taste like bacon. I ate it with ranch, which they do well. I suspect their other flatbreads (which they have a LOT of) are less one-note, but I'll never know, because I would just order this one again. The quesadilla was great, and the chicken was well-seasoned. They also season the outside of the tortilla, and I appreciated the extra kick of flavor. This came with sour cream and a salsa verde. The mac and cheese was mild, creamy, and chock full of pepper. Usually I like a sharper cheese flavor, but I enjoyed it. Smoothies were extremely cheap (under $5 for a 16 oz), but unfortunately we got what we paid for. They were wayyyy too sweet for our tastes, and not a lot of any fruit flavors came through. Our server was kind, attentive, and quick. The interior was very spacious and I noticed several people with laptops out doing work while they drank coffee. It's a nice space.
