I have never been treated so badly as a customer at a locally owned establishment. I ordered a Double Cheeseburger "Carolina Style" with Onion Rings and a sweet tea. The person taking the order asks "what size?" I repeated my order, the dbl cheeseburger Carolina style. She asks, "what toppings?" I say, Chili, slaw, mustard and onions. She says back something but I couldn't understand what she was saying but I heard her say "pineapple". So I repeated the toppings again. She wraps uo the order and I get my food and head home. When I open the cheeseburger, it's just a soggy mess and I see pineapple chunks. I don't understand how pineapple got into the equation but pineapple is what she was determined to give me. I drive back to the restaurant and at the window, the same girl (tattoos all over with pimple patches on her face) who gave me the order greeted me. I said, my order was prepared incorrectly with pineapple on the burger but that's not what I ordered. She says, "You said pineapple". I said, "No, I ordered "Carolina Style and repeated the toppings three times." She grabs the bag and says "you don't need to have an attitude". I said, "I don't have an attitude, I would just like it remade". She says, "that's not a problem, we were gonna remake it for you but you dont have to have an attitude!" The window closes and as I sat there waiting, I call the restaurant and ask to speak to the manager. The woman they put on the phone asks how can she help. I tell her I'm in the drive thru returning an order where pineapple was put on the burger and she interrupts me stating she was the one who took my order and that I had said pineapple and that she is remaking the order herself and it will be a few minutes. I tried to let her know about the conversation with the girl at the window and how she told me I have an attitude. The manager repeats herself again stating the order is being remade and it will be out soon. I thanked her and just waited on the food. A different girl hands me the bag. I check it and they still didn't get it right, leaving off the mustard but at this point I'm not going to say anything in fear of how I'd be treated. So I went home and the more I thought about it, thought these unprofessional types probably spit in my food so I just threw the burger away. The onion rings were dripping in grease and the batter was falling off and they were just soggy fried onions soaked in grease. I will never spend another penny here and after reading other reviews, it sounds like a common issue. My advice: Maybe you need to get a new intercom/speaker/microphone system so people can hear orders correctly and spend some time training your staff on professionalism, customer service and quality. read more

I feel like the quality of Dixie Express has gone down over the years. Most recent experience I got a cheeseburger and fries, the cheeseburger had very little flavor and the fries were not crispy and tasted like they were undercooked. Considering that they keep raising their prices I don't really see any reason to come here anymore. You get better food for a better value at cookout. read more

In the last two weeks, they have gotten the order wrong the first trip and on the second trip I experienced the worst customer service ever. The lady was so rude and incompetent it was unbelievable. I had to repeat my order 4 times and after I paid she handed the bag to me and then shut the window. I thought she went to get part of my order so I waited in the drive thru and after a few minutes she opened the window and said YES? I said I was waiting for the rest of my food and she answered it's all in the bag! I told her that was rude and I had no idea I had the entire order! The thing that really didn't sit well is the guys in the back heard her and she didn't have a problem with being rude to customers. We were on our way back home from a long day at the zoo, and we were looking for a hotdog shack. I came across this restaurant on here, and I'm so glad we decided to give it a shot!!! It's a little drive thru with cook out style items. They've got hotdogs, hamburgers, sandwiches, milkshakes, fries, other fried items, etc... At the speaker we noticed how CHEAP the food was... So we figured we'd order a lot, since cheap usually means you're not going to get a lot... But BOY were we wrong!!! I opened my hotdog tray, and couldn't even see my hotdogs because it was covered in the hand cut home made potato chips. (Which were amazing dipped in the home made ranch. We got two orders!) We spent less than $20 on 3 people here, and actually bought too much food for us all to eat. My brother said that the chicken sandwich was amazing as well, and it looked very large. I wasn't a big fan of the chili, and everything else (flavor wise) was about average or what you'd expect, but honestly I'm still blown away by the cheap prices and the quantity of food! This is my second visit to Dixie Express and I love this place. The food is really good fast food. I have had the hot dog, chicken sandwich, onion rings, fries and funnel fries. None have disappointed. My personal favorite is the beef hotdog. It's nicely grilled and I love it topped with homemade chili, ketchup and mustard. I also really like their funnel fries though I thought they could've used more powdered sugar and less oil, the flavor it's self is spot on and they were cooked to the perfect consistency. Perfect if you're craving funnel cake.This is such a great place to stop for a bite on the road. Whenever I'm on 64, I always crave a hotdog. This place hits the spot. Can't wait to come back from my next road trip. If you're in the area or even just passing through, be sure to stop and have some of the lights. Surprisingly, they have a very diverse menu. The chili dog I ate here was a home run, out of the ballpark good. I doubt it was a ballpark frank though. These are small chili dogs. They never met a rabbi. They never went to Wisconsin. Average cheap American weenie made from parts with a little cyclamate coloring thrown in for good measure. I guarantee it doesn't say all beef on the packaging. But they are good. Solid flavor but not too much snap . Good fresh bun straight off the bottom shelf at the Piggly Wiggly. Chili was great! Thick meaty rode the bun well . It was the kind of chili your momma made. Pack of chili-o mix can of tomatoes and twice the meat the recipe called for. It's better on Thursday than it is on Monday but by Friday eat it at your own risk. I thought there was a can or two of Bushes chili hot beans in there too. Bermuda's were cold crisp and had been chopped that day. No way you could eat one of these messy things with one hand in four bites while riding a bicycle. They weren't built that way. It's gonna get all over your mouth if not your shirt. This is a nice little drive-in that serves old-fashioned chili dogs. Order a hot dog "all the way" for chili, cole slaw, onions, and mustard -- delicious, and just the way I remember eating them as a kid in Asheboro. Good barbecue plates too, although the barbecue is not advertised much. My dad and brother like the burgers. The fried mozzarella cheese sticks and onion rings are excellent. Great road food! Amazing milk shakes and the fried chicken sandwich is what Chic fil a should aspire to be Dixie Express made a better one! Kids really loved their shakes, they were so thick they had to actually eat their meals before they could drink them. Husband enjoyed the cheeseburger. I typically don't eat at fast food, but my wife and I made an exception as we were in a hurry to go the the NC zoo, and we felt a local chain was an acceptable alternative to a National fast food chain. I had the BBQ plate and my wife had a jr cheeseburger with bacon and an oreo chocolate shake- The good --- the season fries and hush puppies were wonderful, the shake was good, these would be 4 star the in between- 1 star the bbq was terrible some of the worse I have had, the bacon cheeseburger was tolerable. these would be no star for the BBQ and 1 star for the burger the bad- negative 4 star we also made the mistake of walking up. We were in a hurry but didn't want to eat in the car- we waited for the fed ex man to drop off a package at the walk up, about five minutes. then we placed our order- after five cars in the one drive up came, got there order and left, which was 16 minutes from the time of our receipt, I walked up, no one came to the window for another 3 minutes then handed me our milkshake and probably saw my look of disturbance and shut the window on me, and left and after another three minutes we got our food. in hindsight we had enough time to drive to a real restaurant and enjoy a real meal read more

We are from Southern Pines, and shop Ashboro occasionally for great bargins. Found this , quaint, double drive thru, by accident about a year ago. This is the only resturant we eat at when we go to Ashboro and the surrounding area. They always carry 100 plus rating and the food is excellent, My favorites are footlong hotdog w/ everything (super), onion rings are the best I ever had. I finally got their banna pudding yesterday, IT IS THE BEST I HAVE EATEN. I make my own from scratch, but their's beats mine. Theirs is home made. And the service is REAL TRUE SOUTHERN STYLE. Good quick road/ travel/ unhealthy lunch or dinner food, reasonable alternative to chain fast food. Burgers, hotdogs, fries, onion rings, milkshakes (15- 20+ varieties to choose from). Food was fine- no better or worse that other fast food much less choice then fast good nearby. Nothing remarkable. Service was friendly. Otherwise it was a disaster... Since we were traveling with little kids, we wanted to stop and stretch a bit, so used the walk-up window. As a first timer, I was lost and felt really inefficient/ awkward while ordering (There is no menu to look at the walk- up window, instead I was directed to look at one of the drive through menus when there wasn't a drive through car in front of it). It was hot standing there as the drive through cars idled next to me, while I waited to be waited on to order and while waiting for the food to come up. I was also not offered a receipt for my purchase which was a problem when something I ordered didn't come out and so we didn't know if we paid for it and didn't get it or just was missed in ordering. There are a three tables set up for people to eat outside on site-- 2 had umbrellas, 1 did not. I thought it was great opportunity to get kids out of the car, but it was hot and seating/ tables are those awful concrete ones so it was uncomfortable, and the tables are positioned close to busy main road and drive through lanes- fine for adults probably, but not for families with young kids. Also, there are 2 restrooms- 1 for men and women- both have external entrances which require a key that can be obtained from the staff. My husband went first with our 2 yr old son and told me that the men's room toilet tank lid was broken and that there were no paper towels. I tried to take our 5 and 8 yr old daughters to the women's room but I noticed that there was no toilet paper first and then found out that the light was burnt out/ not working (and there no windows so it was pitch black when door was closed, making it one impossible to use). Neither restroom was clean. When I came back to return the key for the women's room (immediately), I had to, again, wait at the walk up window to be noticed and when I mentioned (nicely!) that the light was not working and there was no toilet paper in the women's room and the kind young man simply said, "yes mam".... Umm? We should have just used drive through. Get the food if you wish, but plan to stay in your car and just keep moving. read more

There should definitely be more reviews on here than there are. This is my go to spot when I am near the Greensboro area. The food is AMAZING and the prices are wonderful. My favorites include their fried chicken sandwich, grilled chicken sandwich, onion rings, potato chips, strawberry milkshake, fudge brownie milkshake, chicken strips, bacon cheeseburger, and their homemade RANCH!!! Did I name just about everything on their menu? LOL No because they have other creative things like fried macaroni bites. :) I love how crispy their batter is for their chicken strips and their onion rings.
