My first time here and I came in through the side door by mistake so that killed first impressions. Plus you can tell this place has been around for many years so either the food is good or they give you huge servings. It's hardly ever both in my experience. Service met the expectation. She was attentive and kept my drink full. I ordered Chicken Pie or Chicken Casserole (I'm honestly not sure what the difference is. It's a LOCALS favorite, not found in surrounding cities. I think some places call it pie and others call it casserole and I've even seen both items on the same menu). It may have been either the last serving left, scraped off the edges of the pan or it was made on a previous date and re-heated. The same with the mashed potatoes. There were hard crunchy bits of potatoes like it had been sitting out for a day or so and I got the scrapings from the side of the pan. They were not fresh. The gravy wasn't bad. The green beans were straight out of a can and seasoned with bacon or some kind of pork. They served both biscuits and cornbread. I took a bite out of the biscuit and didn't eat the cornbread. From the outside, I thought this was going to be different than what I saw on the inside. They serve breakfast here too and from the reviews and pictures, looks like breakfast may be what keeps this place open. Or the desserts. They do have a huge selection of desserts at the front entrance and they looked good. I don't think I'll be back. Not because of the service but because of quality and cleanliness. read more

We got invited to breakfast at this place. Very family friendly atmosphere. Servers were polite and friendly. Now their menu is massive. Large menus also give me the impression everything can't be great. My son ordered the kids spaghetti with French fries. He like the spaghetti it was seasoned well however his French fries came out cold. My daughter got fish and chips her French fries were hot my son stole some of hers. She didn't like the hush puppies said they were too hard. They were fried a little harder than she was use to. The coleslaw had great flavor but looked like it was sent thru a blender and gave it a weird texture. My husband also got the fish and chips had the same complaint about the coleslaw didn't like the texture. I got a breakfast sausage plate. It looked like it was made in house I didn't ask but it was delicious. Eggs were cooked perfectly nice and fluffy with cheese and the grits cooked well needed a dash of salt but that is my preference. Everything was good not great. Personally would we come back, but not at a first choice. But if you're in the area looking for a quick diner that is priced well I would suggest it to others. read more

My mushroom and Swiss omelette was stuffed to almost overflowing and it was perfection. Cup of fresh fruit was incredible!!! We all had a fantastic meal. My 5 year old cleaned her plate! My husband raved about the made from scratch biscuits and gravy. Don't miss stopping here. read more

The food is really good! I suggest you get the honey mustard grilled chicken. It comes with spinach, Bacon, sundried tomatoes and honey mustard on top and sits on a bed of rice. The people working there is really nice and place seems clean but sometimes can have a funky smell in parts of the restaurant. read more

I went there for breakfast and it was fabulous. I had the french toast with a side of bacon, but it was delicious. Went back a second time but we missed the breakfast hours and i was forced to get lunch. Got their tuna melt and i have been back three times just to get that exact sandwich for take-out. Biggest downfall is the hours. If you can't get their during the workday, you are out of luck. read more

CJ's Olde Towne holds a special place in my heart. Located in the heart of Asheboro, near the hospital and the well known restaurant, The Table. It is the opposite of The Table however. It is not modern, nor does it host innovative dishes, but what it does have is an old timey feel with a large menu of comforting dishes. Everyone seems like a regular. Their pancakes at breakfast time are the biggest I've seen locally, and their specials menu always hosts a plethora of cozy dishes (my favorite being the honey mustard chicken). When my grandparents were alive and my grandmother worked at the nearby hospital, we would meet them when I was a child so being able to visit with my children now gives me warm, nostalgic feelings. I got to tell my girls that this is where we would meet their great grandparents when "mommy was a little girl." So while CJ's may not be for everyone, it makes me happy being able to visit and have a taste of my childhood. read more

Went with my family on a whim to eat a late breakfast. There was four of us. We went to CJ'S Olde Towne Restaurant there was about a five minute wait. About 11:45AM on a Friday. The waitress was amazing and did a great job. The food was hot fresh and out quickly after ordering. Overall I give it five stars because of the price, portions, atmosphere, taste, and hospitality. If you want some where good to go I recommend trying them out, you will not regret it. read more

Great place if you like the small town feel. Everyone was nice and talkative. They have daily specials that can be found on their Facebook page. My fiance said that it took her back to the good old days. It was a little hot in the restaurant and pretty busy. I think that the only thing I can complain about was the fries were a little soggy. I ordered online. When I picked up my order after 20 minutes (they said 15), it wasn't ready. It should have been. All they had to do was dip the vegetables into the clamshell. I ordered 4 veggies and only got 3. They also left off the onions I asked for on my blackeyed peas and the butter I wanted on my biscuit. When I called to report that, they told me I could come back for the slaw. When I did, they gave me a tiny slaw that I surely thought would have been bigger since I had had to pay extra for it. Anyway, the food was okay. I ordered turnip greens and they were good. The fried green tomatoes I asked for were way too salty, but nothing else was salty, so I made do. I may go back and try again, but I will not use the online ordering. That's clearly a cause for failure. read more

Wow! What a surprise. When we pulled up to this place, I was not impressed at all. It looks like a dump. Even once inside, it is not impressive. The place most definitely needs a facelift. But, don't let the looks fool you. The service was prompt. The servers were very nice and friendly. The food was outstanding. My wife got a vegetable plate, and she loved it. Picture this. You're 13 years old, and you just gotten home from riding your bicycle until the street lights let you know it's time to go home. You walk in, nervous, because you know you are supposed to be in before dark and you were a little late. The house is dark, which is super unusual since your mom makes sure to keep lights in when the sun goes down because she doesn't want you or your little sister to trip and fall again. There's an odd aroma in the living room. Like stale cigars and cheap brandy. Sort of like grandmas house. Not your mothers mom, but your fathers. The one who kisses you way too long on the cheek. You turn to your right to wiggle the weird light switch behind the couch and it won't turn on. "Thats weird." You can't hear your own voice and the room begins to turn cold. "Run." You hear your mother say in a low croak. Without hesitation you glance towards the kitchen and see your mothers lifeless body draped over the stove top. Frozen in fear you mutter to yourself, "There's no place like CJs. There's no place like CJs." And in that moment you can picture the warm and buttery cheddar biscuits, and the vast selection of breakfast items. And you remember that mom always loves the chicken and waffles. Dad always loved the breakfast platters. Your little sister (wherever she is lol) only ate chicken pie, or country fried steak. She probably got what she deserved.
