A+++= Vallejo needed a place like this for a minute. Chill... off the beaten path dive is just what this neighborhood was asking for but didn't know it. My ride or die foodie friend and I are always on the hunt for places to hit up... Combined with great drinks, good food, and cool company...we were feeling all the vibes! Every 2nd Tues & 4th Thursday Chef Daniel comes with the fire and blazes up the grill for a special night of tacos galore. On the regular...the place is getting great reviews on thier menu like...Mac & Cheese bowls and other bar-style items. I remember passing by this place last Summer wondering what is this I see? The business is camouflaged amongst the homes in the area, with its Victorian style home exterior. I could never tell if it was open, then earlier this year I started to see Yelp reviews. It was a sunny day, so I decided to give them a try. They have a large variety of beers, ciders and kombucha (many local). Not being a big beer drinker I asked for a recommendation. The cashier advised I try one of the month's features.- sure. I added the Louie's Shrimp toast to go along side. The shrimp toast was delicious, a mix of bay shrimp, cheese, jalapeño and some other ingredients. The beer was also good. The outside back area is cute and quaint. I also appreciate the many sanitizing dispensers throughout the restaurant & back patio. Not much seating, but if you're fortunate enough to get a seat, the back area is quite a relaxing space to catch up with friends. There are a few seats in front as well. Happened upon Hopulent on the way back to West Sacramento from Bodega Bay. We walked in and were greeted by Kat. We ordered a Fried Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich with all condiments on the side and the Mac & Cheese (Pesto-tomato/added chicken and extra cheese). My hubby and I bantered while ordering about which spice level we should get as I am all about the hotter the better and the hubs is less so, and Kat cleared everything up for us by offering to put everything on the side and giving us different sauces and plates so we could try each other's meals easily. Although we were perfectly happy to get everything in To-Go containers, she brought out this Heaven on Earth sandwich with the best looking crinkle cut fries I've seen since the 80s. To our surprise, everything tasted even better than it looked. It is apparent that this food is prepared with love and the ingredients used are so fresh and so obviously carefully selected. Hats off to Kat's brother, the chef, as everything was sinfully delicious!!! Also worth mentioning is that we were welcomed by the local folks and a nice mellow pup on the patio. New spot in town!!! I heard about this place for a couple months now, but didn't see many reviews on it. So I gave it a shot and I'm glad I did! This is a small family owned business who have a kind and positive attitude even during these covid times. I ordered the Hopulent mac and cheese and the pesto chicken mac and cheese. Out of the two the pesto was my favorite because it was gooier with a thinner sauce which coated the noodles better. The freshness of the tomato really helped balance out the cheese and brought the whole dish together. The Hopulent Mac is a basic Mac and cheese nothing too special about it, but had a nice cheesy broiled top. I wish they added a crunchy element to the top which would give it more flare. Portion size was great for the price and can be shared between 2 or 3 people depending how hungry you are. They have an outdoor patio with a handful of small tables with heating lamps for comfort. Hand sanitizer stations are all around the premises and the owners follow cleaning protocols for Covid 19. Beer, cider and kombucha cans are available for purchase as well as some beer on tap ready to be enjoyed. I'll be back to try other things on the menu. I've been coming to this local joint for years every now and then and go with different friends with me each time I visit because I want to show them how good it is. The owner Kat is really friendly and provides insight on the options. She runs the spot with her brother, David, who I also met when he brought out my mac and cheese. He was really nice too and chatted with me briefly. The place is like a house converted into a restaurant with the backyard patio as outdoor seating with quirky furniture like a garlic hanging lamp and classroom style chairs. I went with my fiancé on my recent visit and got the veggie Mac and spicy chicken sandwich and dragonfruit cider on tap. Everything was delicious! I've had the veggie Mac, pulled pork Mac, and hopulent Mac (bacon and jalapeño) and all the Mac and cheese flavors are delicious. The spicy chicken sandwich had a nice kick and was honestly the best fried chicken I've ever had. The fries were nice and crispy with a yummy garlic aioli dipping sauce. Excellent find in Vallejo. Very good selection of beers, including some unique Asian brews. My buddy and I came for the beer but we found that the food is outstanding. The owner, David, also goes outside the regular menu periodically and does a pop up BBQ. We caught that on one of our recent visits and again, the food was outstanding. All the food is not only high end as compared to other brewery fare but it is a great value. Hopulent has a great overall vibe, with a small indoor seating area and a great outdoor patio. I've been to Hopulent twice over the past two weeks. It is a very welcoming spot with excellent food and a big selection of beer, in many different varieties on tap and in cans and bottles. The proprietors are conversational, friendly, and had thoughtful recommendations for beers to try. There is a lovely deck out back for dining and having a pint. The deck is festooned with succulents, cafe lights, and ephemera, and is still a friendly and casual environment. There are also heaters outside for when it starts to get chilly, the design of the porch dining area mostly mitigates the Vallejo wind, but if you run cold still plan on a light jacket for a chilly spring evening. Probably most important for me, is that Hopulent feels like a community gathering place. It is really nice to drift in and out of conversation with other patrons, after missing human connection so long. It's a very welcome respite from these isolating times. Sipping and munching food on the deck at Hopulent is reminiscent of hanging out in the backyard of your cool art friend's house, but better. I like sour beer. Hopulent has more sour beer varieties than anywhere else I have been in Vallejo, and they were all very tasty. I tried Jelly Monster, Apricot SourNova, and Cherry Sour (I'm not good with remembering names so I'm not sure of the name of the cherry sour but it was excellent, sweet and sour). The food is wonderful. So far, I've tasted the meatball sub, chicken báhn mi, the pretzel, shrimp toast, and potato skins. It's impossible to pick a favorite. The portions sizes of the sandwiches are filling (they also come with chips), and the appetizers are good for two to share. I am a fool and didn't take photos, I will update the review when I go back. For those who may be hesitant to dine out because of COVID: Hopulent is the cleanest place I have eaten in the entire Bay Area, maybe ever. There are hand sanitizer dispensers everywhere, the bathroom is spotless and all of the fixtures are new. They also clean their pens. It is clear they are thoughtfully exercising every precaution to make the space as clean and safe as possible. Came here with my girlfriend last weekend and we ordered the meatball sliders and the jalapeño with bacon Mac and Cheese. It is by far the best Mac and cheese I've ever had in Vallejo. We even compared there mac and cheese to the infamous "Homeroom" in Oakland, and we thought it had more flavor !! The owner is really nice and friendly! She suggested some really good beers for us. My girlfriend doesn't like hard tasting beers so the owner suggest the "Guava Cider" for a more fruity taste and for myself I love Pilsner, so she suggested the "Reality Czech". The out door atmosphere is really a feel at home and decorations seems like a personal touch. We went drinking the mid afternoon, but I'm sure during the evening will be a beautiful setting with the lights hanging across the deck above the tables. Once again my husband and I had the pleasure of coming here Sun for an early dinner. Kat actually recognized us even though it had been about 2 years since we'd been here. I ordered the crispy Chicken sandwich which comes with my favorite Crinkle Cut fries $16. The chicken was cooked purrrfectly. I also got some ranch dressing, unfortunately it's not homemade. My husband enjoyed his Hopulent Mac n Cheese $14. We also ordered a few beers. I got the Funerary Gyre IPA $8, and my husband got the Bean Me Up Porter $8, which were both cold & delicious! We decided to sit at a small table in the outside seating area which was a bit chilly. I went inside to use the restroom and mentioned how cold it was outside, so Kat & David came out and moved one of the heat lamps closer to our table, which was awesome!!
