I absolutely love divey bars. The diverse clientele. The nightly regulars, the pool table hustlers, the wasted weekend warriors. The occasional surly bartender. The place didn't have the surly bartender. She was actually really nice and poured good drinks. The clientele, I didn't feel like a knife fight break out. Everybody was there having a good evening. It's a good sized bar that could handle a crowd if needed. But most importantly of all the nice things. They got a juke box and you can use your phone to put songs on. read more

Worst security guy ever. He said that service dog is not allowed. Even though he is not supposed to ask for proof, I told him that I have a paper work for my dog, he said 'Not here'. The biggest ass I've ever met in any service industry. I have been to this bar many times before and all the other staff are wonderful. It's exactly what you would expect a dive bar to be like. An after work hangout that doesn't drain your pockets. Pool is popular here. The back area is a smoke area but it's nice that I can hang with my Smokey guy instead of him having to step out. Bartenders always attentive and will say what's on there mind lol. There is NO kitchen. So food is what gets brung in. Used to be able to walk next door for Pacifica Pizza but it's closed. Thanksgiving always has food like deep fried turkey. People like to bring and show off there dish. This bar's always been there for me and my family and friends. Thank you for that. read more

Visiting a friend in Vallejo and just finished having lunch and wanted to explore her new neighborhood since she moved from Bay Point. We started googling and yelping and found this bar out of no where. Read the reviews and said let's go! It's nothing fancy on the outside and not in the best location either the freeway literally across the road. The establishment is right next door to a dilapidated building which used to be a pizza joint. The minute you walk into this bar you are hit with a very strong smell of cigarettes... coming from a former smoker I did not complain. It did take quite a while to get used to the smell... if I still smoked I would have enjoyed the covered back "patio" where everyone was smoking. Besides that, the bar was pretty open and it looked like there were a lot of locals just hanging out having a good time on a Saturday afternoon. The bartender was super nice and made our drinks very quickly. We ordered a round of drinks that were pretty basic and they came very strong, not complaining here. Had a pineapple and vodka in a tall glass and it was great. The margarita on the rocks was good as well. What I loved is the music they were playing! Definitely some early 2000's jams that I could sign along to and feel young again lol. Later in the evening they open their dance floor and they even have a stage for live music. The bar itself was pretty nice and clean... don't let the location fool you! Don't judge a book by its cover is what I have to say. They do charge a cover after midnight of $5 since it turns in to more of dancing club. Other photos show food but we didn't get a menu or anything so I'm assuming people just bring in their own food. Love/hate relationship with this place. They have the best pool tables in the area but if you're a woman traveling solo I'd say go to Townhouse instead. Some of the men there give an unsettling vibe and often make me feel uncomfortable. I feel safer when the women bartenders are there. No smoking inside. Full bar with pool tables inside. Space for a band or karaoke but closed off tonite. Tables and 2 of 3 working tvs in the back patio. 2 electronic dart games. My drink was weak and small for what I paid, but that was okay as I had to drive myself home later. I felt the man at the door, Security, would have walked me to my car if I had asked. Okay, so I am guilty of judging a book by it's cover. I totally thought Gentleman Jim's was a seedy dive bar. It's located right off the freeway in a little bit of a sketchy spot. The good thing is they have their own small parking lot. So I did get the dive part right but I was totally wrong about the seedy. The inside of the bar is divey but don't let that deter you. A group of us went to Gentleman Jim's on Saturday night for a work thing. The atmosphere and crowd was great, a mix of ages and ethnicities. The live band was amazing and played everything from the Wobble to Prince songs. There was a lot of family-style seating available and the bathrooms were really clean. The bartender was simply AWESOME! She was a tall blonde lady who gave us the best recommendation ever...habanero vodka! We were shooting shots back to back of the stuff. Totally delicious with a nice kick of spice. I also had mai tais which were good. My drinks were $7 bucks each which is a really good price for the big glasses they serve. I don't think they serve food but there is a pizza place right next door. I had a great time here and will definitely be back!!!! read more

I've been venturing this hometown staple for a little over three years now and I've had some great memories. It started way back when I first moved into Vallejo...karaoke is what drew me in and the welcoming feel of regulars and friendly staff is what kept me coming in. My brother and I use to stop in every week after work and unload the day and admire the scenery. It's a great place on the weekends to bring friends that come and visit and are looking to have fun without going to SF. Met a lot of cool people that have since left Vallejo but I will still call friends. There's more to check out like food in the lounge area, pool table teams, sports games, daily drink specials, and great conversations. This place is a hidden gem! I have passed by this place a million times on the freeway and would have never considered going inside of it. A friend and I were searching online for local karaoke bars and this one came up in our search. I was extremely skeptical. I was pleasantly surprised when I entered the building. There was a very kind security officer at the door. He greeted us warmly and at the end of the night he walked up to our cars. The bartenders were simply amazing! Beautiful, fun, and witty, and they made us feel like family right away. They pour amazing drinks and at one point there was a pizza place next door (it burned down, sadly) and the bartenders would give you a ticket and you could get a whole delicious pizza for $10! This place is hella fun. The KJ is super fun and keeps the show moving. There are always a lot of karaoke singers and dancers who are simply having a great time. This has become a regular karaoke spot for me and my friends. I drive about 40 minutes each way just to come to karaoke at Jim's. I feel welcome here. I feel safe, and I always get great laughs and have a good time. Lesson: Don't judge a book by its cover! read more

Its not the same. Tonight was our first night back to Gentleman Jim's post pandemic. My family has been regulars for 30 years. We honestly could say it was a place where everybody knew your name. Not so much anymore. The magic was lost. There was something special about the old space- the homey decorations, the different rooms with sufficient seating, the Christmas lights, the family members who waited tables and shared with us how their graduations, marriages and babies were doing. The food was still the same so that was a plus. But I don't think Id go back. It was a Sunday night and I just wanted to enjoy dinner with my dad who is aging and cant hear well. We sat outside because it was packed inside- not as many tables, yet even outside the live music was so loud my dad couldn't hear the conversation. If you are looking for a sports bar this place is perfect. The food is good and the bar is packed, the games are on. Its modern and the outdoor patio is nice. But I can find a sports bar anywhere. I could never find a Gentleman Jims. I would drive with my high school kids from Bethesda to go here and meet mom and dad for dinner. That place is gone. read more

Yup... an update on a bar that I've been to for the past 9 months!! I hate using the term dive bar but for those of us that drink we know what that entails....LUV THIS PLACE! Never easy fitting into a bar where you don't know people.... honestly that people aren't any different. However, if you're sincere and not a troublemaker and open to giving a chance to people that don't know you...this, is a place to check out! A very good sound system! A live band during karaoke for those of you that can sing! Staff that does very well and has good chemistry with each other! Management that goes above and beyond treating people as well as they can! Vibes were interesting and there were some drunk people but the bartenders were very welcoming and wholesome. They helped with uncomfortable circumstances and the drinks were good. Not living in V-town, it takes quite an alignment of the stars to get me to go out drinking there, but it so happened one night and I'm glad we made it into Gentleman Jim's. It really wasn't my typical crowd, but I managed to enjoy the evening without much fuss. Oddly, they have no beers on draft, bottles and cans only, and they're cash only, but have an ATM with the usual surcharge beside the bar. The place is pretty large, the bar is long and there are some tables to the back of the room. There is an dance floor for those who can dance or had enough not to care that they can't, and a DJ was playing the same selection of songs everyone else does these days the night I stopped in. There is an enclosed smoking patio it toward the back, which was way nicer than being out in the rain that night. I noticed there was a swamp cooler back there as well, which probably makes it a lot more tolerable in the summer. If you hadn't gathered already, I don't like to move it move it, so by the time the DJ was in full swing I made my exit. The taxi company was delayed, which afforded us the entertainment of the big drunk chick trying to start a fight with someone in a large group of other patrons as her smaller boyfriend attempted to get her to the car. After quite a few "C'mon baby, you don't want to do that," and other words of encouragement, she finally left without further incident, and even the bouncers couldn't keep a straight face. As far as nightlife goes in Vallejo, this place is real chill. I've never really been to other bars in 707 because of the bad reputation this town has of being kinda ghetto, but this place counteracts that stereotype. It gets a 4 because for some reason they wouldn't let me wear a beanie, like they were keeping a lockdown on the place. I'm guessing it's to keep things orderly and ghetto freeness. Other than that, the people were real cool and everyone there was just looking to have a good time. Don't know about the other drinks but PBR's in this place is $2.50 and they only accept cash. 2 pool tables in the back, a patio outside to smoke, a dancefloor (I've never seen it used) a stripper pole (I want to say it's a stripper pole) and you can play beer pong, karaoke, and local band nights on thursdays. It's cool I stumbled on to this place because I've been looking for a local bar to kick it at and it's going to be this place. update: so I've been coming here regularly for a couple of months now and just a couple of tips. It's hit or miss on fri -sat. Sometimes it's cracking and sometimes it's dead. Try to get the white dude bartender because he's cool and friendly and doesn't fluctuate the prices. The other bartenders seem to be dicks. Tues -Thurs are karaoke nights and they have their regulars for that. Pool at this place is intermediate and that's why I keep coming back. Been here a few times, loved it both times. The first time there was a great covers band playing. The second time I was there, it was Karaoke night and the singers actually were pretty decent (before the drinking began) the bouncer guy told me about a party bus to go see the Sharks play. Lots of friendly people and staff. It still is a dive bar, though, but as far as dives go, this is a good one. read more

I give this place 5 stars for many reasons. I'm new to the Vallejo area and as we know there isn't much around there for the grown and sexy to do. Well I took a chance and went in on A Thursday and from the minute I walked in the door we had nothing but amazing customer services by Tara the bartender. She made the uncertain feel welcomed and comfortable. We were greeted by the owner Dwayne that was the sweetest man. The place is clean. The restrooms are amazing. We enjoyed the vibe and music. I loved it so much we went back on Friday night. Had another night to remember and again the service was awesome and the vibe was cool. It's a bar everyone knows your name and very welcoming. I was at this place a little after 1am this morning with my sisters and we started hearing multiple gunshots coming from the men's restroom. We ran tf out of there and won't be back for a long time. Wtf is going on???? This is the second shooting in less than 2 months! The "security" man that checks ID needs to stop charging people $5 when karaoke is supposed to be free. Lol. He should use that money that he's putting in his pocket and invest in a metal detector. Maybe he can actually be productive and possibly prevent another shooting. read more
