One of my favorite go-to Vallejo spots. The beers are good, the view is amazing, and the food is always on point. My favorite lunch order is the Chicken Caesar Wrap - perfect ratio of chicken, lettuce, cheese, dressing, and croutons. The wrap is always well constructed and never falls apart mid-consumption. When I moved away from Vallejo, I thought about this wrap often. For dinner, the wings are always a solid choice - korean bbq, bbq, buffalo - all equally good. The wings are a good size, an even mix of drums and flats, the chicken is always moist and the sauce ratio is perfect. Best wings in Solano County. The M.I.B.C. Burger is another favorite, always cooked as requested, the meat is super flavorful and the toppings - cheese, onion, sauce, and arugula fit perfectly between the brioche bun. This is also served with fries - always served the right amount of crisp. For beers, I prefer to drink the War Bond. However, I can vouch for the fact that all of the beer here is good. Also, all of the staff here are super friendly and helpful. Best neighborhood bartenders, best views of the sunset. We are lucky to have this spot in Vallejo. read more

The food was good overall. We started with the fish and chips, and the fish was exactly how we like it--light, crispy, and coated in a delicate, crunchy batter (think Sardine Can). The onion rings were good too, although I wish they used the same batter as the fish. The food wasn't served quite as hot as I would have preferred, and they were pretty conservative with the condiments. That may be intentional given the location and the likelihood of non-customers helping themselves if everything was left on the tables. I asked whether the beets in the beet salad were freshly roasted or canned, and I was told they were fresh, so I ordered it. It was good, but something wasn't quite as fresh as I expected. It may have been the walnuts--I think they would have benefited from being toasted--or perhaps another ingredient. I'm very particular when it comes to beet salads. I also ordered the crab and artichoke melt, and this was the star of the meal. It was absolutely divine. Rich, buttery crab and melted cheese layered on thinly sliced, perfectly toasted ciabatta--it was pure comfort food. I was surprisingly full after just two bites, partly because the portions are generous and I'd already made a dent in the beet salad. I skipped drinks this visit, but I'll definitely be back to check out the rotating taps and wine selection. The staff were laid-back, incredibly friendly, and genuinely helpful. The setting is one of the restaurant's biggest draws. The outdoor patio offers a beautiful bird's-eye view of the ferries arriving at Mare Island, making it the perfect place to linger over a meal. Inside, there's a large, inviting bar where it's easy to strike up a conversation with another guest, or you can grab one of the window seats and simply enjoy the waterfront views. First of all, thank you for offering a 15% discount for nurses week! I love how the parking is right there and you can sit outside and watch the ferries come by. There were 3 of us. I got thr Korean BBQ wings, friend got the quessabirria tacos, and other friend got a burger. The wings were moist and delicious except I which they were a little less sweet and a little more spicy. I would get this without the generous swipes of mayonnaise next time and instead get another swipe of the pepper jelly. We went to a celebration at the Ferry building location recently for suds and grub. It was mostly casual and low key. I had Mare Island a few tomes mainly the Hydraulic sandwich amongst others. The Beer tender Stephan was super friendly and helpful. Yo can order your beer at Bar and also place food order and pick up food at the window when its ready. We ordered a few suds and got appetizers lkke Wings, Fried pickles and a Pulled Pork sandwich. We also ordered a popcorn Shrimp basket. Beers were good and service staff were friendly . Definitely casual and a great way to enjoy a lazy afternoon with friends. Something relaxing about watching the Ferry depart the dock with a cold one in your hand. read more

My first time there on the evening of Sunday, July 12 was a great experience. Went with a group of friends and at this establishment you go inside to order individually no table service. I ordered the Korean fried chicken sandwich. It was delicious and filling. As I sat at the table with my friends, the man behind the pick up window walked up to our table. He asked me if I had had the Korean fried chicken sandwich and I said yes. He then proceeded to hand me a bag and say the one they originally made was a little skimpy so he had them make another one. We were all taken back by this unexpected with act of kindness. I thanked him and left with lunch for the next day. I can't tell you how much Customer Service like this impresses me and I will always be a happy client of the Mare Island brewing company. read more

One of the Ethel Circle groups I belong to meets here for lunch. The setup is ideal for a group lunch. You order and pay at the bar, so there is no worry about spliting the check. The room has a water view; I enjoy watching the ferry dock. However, even on warm days, the room is cold. Most of the food is pretty good. I been going here for several months and have tried almost everything on the menu: my favorites are the Chicken Sandwich and the Truffle Mac and Cheese. The Ruben was off the menu the last time I had lunch, it was replaced by a delicious Crab and Artichoke Melt. A real plus is that we can order off the kids menu. 5 June 2025 1:39 pm 3.5 stars We stopped in today as I have been wanting to try their Poutine. We ordered our meal and than sat and waited with the given pager. Wife asks if I like the style of pumped in music that is playing over speakers. "Yes as background music." I answer, "But not that loud." The Poutine is based on a Canadian dish and is a $15 piping hot cast iron plate of French fries, gravy, cheese, fresh onions and optional bacon. Pretty good eatin.. The gravy and cheese were nicely interspersed throughout the fries. We passed on the optional sunny side up egg topper. Yes that Poutine is pretty darn tasty and filling enough to bring along one or two friends to share with. I do wish businesses would stop with the mandatory tip screen or give you a "skip" option. If you don't want to tip or want to tip with cash, you've got to take a coding class to figure out how to leave a credit card tip of $0.00. The inside of the taproom is very enjoyable with happy laughing and chatting customers. The bartender was friendly and the woman who handed me our meal has a 1000 watt smile. On a not so happy note, getting to and around the vacinity of the taproom reminds one why Vallejo often gets a bad rep.. This taproom does not have its own restroom. If you want to "rest" you will use the public restroom in the same building that the taproom shares with other businesses. This restroom routinely has no soap, tissue paper, or paper towels (it does have those ineffective air blowers- get ready to dry your hands on your pants.), is peppered with grafitti and often has plugged (vandalized) or soiled beyond usability toilets. This unpleasant situation has been in place for years and it was unpleasant today. I wonder if the businesses that share this public restroom could pass out toiletries to customers individually. Or possibly put up a sign to let customers know how to alert whoever is on latrine duty that day. While the restroom situation is being looked into, perhaps someone could look into getting the overflowing trash receptacle outside the building entrance emptied on a more regular basis. So sad to see trash spilling out and blowing onto the sidewalk the into the bay. Another eyesore. The paint graffiti and stickers that are on public signage at the outdoor taproom seating area and around the parking lots makes the property outside of the taproom look trashy and regretably reflects poorly on the city and her businesses. read more

I've been visiting Mare Island Brewing's Ferry Taproom since it first opened and have always appreciated the great beer, friendly staff, and welcoming atmosphere. It's been one of my favorite stops whenever I'm back in town for the holidays. During my recent visit, however, I witnessed something disappointing. Near closing time (8 PM), a patron who came in with a friend politely asked for another drink and was told by the bartender, Michelle, that service had stopped for the night. That would have made sense, except after they left, I saw other guests continuing to be served well past 8 PM. The inconsistency was noticeable and came across as selective, possibly even discriminatory - these women were African American and the other guests were not. The guests who remained appeared to be regulars or football fans watching the game, and I even saw a few new people join existing groups and successfully order beers of their own. It was disheartening to see this happen at a place that has always represented community and hospitality to me. I hope management takes this feedback seriously so that every guest feels equally welcome and respected. read more

The ferry taproom for MIB is so cute, with views of the water and the ferry as you get your drink and grub on! Yeah, I know- the other MIB taproom also has views of the water, but this one is in the main part of Vallejo so it's perfect for commuters or people who want to hang on this side of the town. It has a very local feel to it, but very welcoming and warm! read more

If your headed over to the city and want to grab a quality lunch this is a great spot they have sandwiches, salads and appetizers. The servide is great and they have a full bar. I had the chicken Caesar salad and it was fantastic with fresh grated Parma cheese. read more

First off , the beer is good. The reason for going there in the first place. The food is not good. My wife found a hair in her burger. They cooked her another which was supposed to be medium rare but it was well done. She didn't eat it. My burger didn't have much flavor. It was supposed to be a smash burger but it was just a double meat burger with cheese and nasty tomatoes and lettuce. I ate about half of mine. They charged us for my wife's meal even though she didn't eat the second burger either . They just said "sorry about that". You know that feeling where you just feel like home? Similar atmosphere here. You have your regulars, your friendly bartenders and servers and of course, the newbies that come in from the ferry ride in SF. There is outdoor and indoor seating and once upon a time, there was even seating on the deck up top (when is that coming back by the way). Our night took an unexpected turn and a long day ended up here, right where we started our day at the Vallejo Ferry Terminal. A yap session later, grilled cheese and fries and of course a bread pudding later, I am a fan. I will share this, the bread pudding does take some time to cook so if you plan on leaving right away, order this too when you place your order. You will meet a bunch of interesting people, have great conversations and at the end of the day, you will be glad you walked in. So what are you waiting for? Run club meets outside weekly and with the area moving towards structural improvements on the south end of the dock, it will only get better from here. read more

We decided to eat here on Friday 8/1 around 2:40pm. It's my second time eating here, but I remember the first time didn't impress me much. The first time I got their chicken wings and it was pretty sad. Barely any meat on them and really small. Since that time, I said I don't think I would come back. We do love the location in Benicia. The staff is always super friendly and the place is clean. At this location, I think it would help for the staff to maybe wipe the tables down during the day? Our seat was dirty and the table we were at was sticky. On this day this is what we got: Hubby: Mare Island Burger. We both love this. First time we had it was in Benicia and has been our go to. Me: Fish and Chips. I'm usually very skeptical when it comes to ordering this anywhere. Not everyone can master really good fish n chips. I have only 2 places that I would go to if they were so far away. The batter on top was nice and crispy, but as soon as you try to lift it up, it started to fall apart! I looked and the bottom was pretty soggy, hence why it was breaking. I'm sure they could have maybe done something to mitigate this from getting soggy so it's crispy all around? The gal at the bar was super nice and friendly. I wouldn't mind coming here for a drink and the burger, but I would definitely avoid the fish n chips. Unless it wasn't my day and it's normally better? I think I wouldn't rather not risk it next time. I really beat myself up for ordering things that I know will let me down. Visited the brewery today to escape the heat of Yolo County. Ordered their special lager and golden ale and enjoyed it on the patio with some deviled eggs. The view and breeze made for an idyllic little summer day date. The bartender was super friendly and let us try a few samples before deciding on a pint. First time here. Took the ferry from SF specifically to give this place a try. It was highly recommended on a recent Check Please show. And it was my Birthday treat. First thing I would mention is "poor marketing". Folks on the Ferry could not tell us where it was. Gave us bad directions. Hella long walk from the ferry and absolutely NO SIGNAGE as to where the place was. Food "meh". Super small portions. We all had a pulled pork sandwich. You order inside @ the bar and get a buzzer thingy for your beer or beverage and 1 for your food. Why for the beer, I'm standing right there. Food comes out of a food truck outside. Order got all jacked up, even though we all ordered the same thing at the same time on one ticket. One sandwich came out 10 minutes ahead of everyone else. One sandwich didn't even get made until we brought it to the attention of the manager. NO customer service whatsoever. Unfortunately none of us will be back. We so wanted to love it. read more

VISIT NOTES *parking is a nightmare *I have physical limitations (back issues, recent foot surgery) so I really needed to sit at a table *when I walked in, I asked, do we seat ourselves and was told yes. (nothing was said about no table service to order) I wanted to sit outside and there were plenty of open low tables but on an 80 degree afternoon after a FULL WEEK of unseasonably 90+ temps (March 16-21, 2026) the outside dining area has ZERO shade umbrellas. I was told "yeah, we haven't decided to put those out yet." The only shaded outdoor dining was at high bar tables or at "shelf" rail and all had these trendy yet uncomfortable 'farmhouse' tall barstools: hard steel, no backs, tiny seat and I can't sit at this style of table. *The inside low tables were full but the "hostess" walked through the dining room to see if there was an open low table and the only option was a picnic table that was half occupied and they "let" me sit down *Hostess made a big deal about getting a towel and some cleaner to wipe it down. * I look up and see a large sign that says ORDER HERE across the room back where I was standing. (I've been to the MIBC Taproom in Benicia and they have table service) *so another walk across the dining room to place the order for drinks and food *I told the bartender I've had foot surgery so all this walking around is really difficult. they said yeah sounds like a drag *After I order, the bartender had the arrogance to flip a screen around (and walk away!!) that asks for a minimum 18%+ percent tip. FOR LITERALLY NO SERVICE. I still put out a tip, and tablet asked if I wanted a receipt, I chose print, and then a screen requiring me to enter my phone number (WTF?) I complain when Bartender comes back with my wine and said, oh no, that was optional. And I said if there was an opt out button, it wasn't visible. *I ask, can they hold my wine glass behind the bar Because I need to go to the restroom and didn't want to leave an open drink on a table unattended. Bartender hands me a coaster and says, oh use this. *So now another walk back and forth across the room. And I have to do it again to pick up my food *While waiting for my food I saw both a bartender and hostess bringing out food so, table service is based on their mood? *they dont have restrooms (?!?) they offer the public restroom in the lobby of the ferry terminal. Fun fact! They have a dart board in the corner that's in the direct path of the shortest distance to get to the restroom. Patrons playing darts shout at you for getting in their way. *The only positive was the kitchen staff which did put out a great sandwich and fries. *When someone has a physical disability, all of this is unacceptable. Same for the exterior there isn't clear signage the entrance isn't at the parking lot but around the corner at the pier. ============= I was in Vallejo to look at property in Glen Cove and made the short but concerning° drive to the Ferry Building. It was a very pretty day and thought it would be nice to sit out near the water and try and enjoy it. (And while I didn't see any RAT INFESTATION that was all over the local news, the vibe of the people "hanging around smoking" and condition of the other buildings make this my "one & done" for the town of Vallejo. °Crime, the WORST roads and blight.) read more

3 stars for the cool setting the actual brewery is next door and closed to visitors. Lots of parking. Close to ferry building although if you're walking it's a long walk. We found it though! Those of you that seen the Check Please episode will probably be disappointed as it is not a restaurant, they have a small food truck outside with 2 employees that don't have a clue about anything. Also they don't have everything on the menu my husband ordered a M.I.B.C Burger for 20 bucks it was just ok the "bucket" of fries were so small they may want to rename it. The beer was OK I tried the "gold" and thought it was good my husband tried the hefeweizen he said it was the worse one he ever had. I didn't eat there. The outside is absolutely gorgeous with lots of art ships and people strolling by... was it worth going? Sure I liked the vibe outside and the building is pretty but I went to eat and didn't because I couldn't find anything I wanted from the little truck. Pretty disappointed. read more

Our group made an outing to Vallejo on SF Ferry Rider Appreciation Day since we have never been to the Vallejo waterfront area. The plan was to walk the shoreline Bay Trail and return to have lunch at Mare Island Brewery. It's been on our to- try list after seeing them featured on CheckPlease. The restaurant is part of the ferry terminal building and is right next to the ferry terminal. It's a large place with a bar area with regular, high top and communal tables. You order at the register at the bar and pick up your food order at the Pick Up window next to the bar when your pager buzzes. I had the Buffalo Ranch Fried Chicken Sandwich - the crispy battered fried chicken thigh with melted Swiss, lettuce, tomato and buffalo sauce on a brioche bun. The order comes from good portion of crispy fries. My friends had the House smoked Pulled Pork Sandwich and House-made Pastrami Reuben. They enjoyed their sandwiches and fries and felt the portions were good-sized. We shared the Everything Bagel Deviled Eggs with Smoked Salmon. With six half eggs to the order, the everything bagel spice and smoked salmon kicked it up from a regular deviled egg. Delish! So glad we finally got to try the food here and it was delish. So convenient for ferry riders. Will be back again and will try the beers next time. read more

You order at the tap room counter, and they give you a pager for when your food is ready. My food came out fast, and was fresh and hot. Located down by the Vallejo waterfront. There is a free parking lot with a 3 hour limit. I haven't had any trouble finding a spot. But if it is extra crowded there is a paid lot across the street (usually for ferry passengers). Be mindful of the time limit. I walked past a car that had a tow boot so I think they do enforce it. There's some nice outdoor picnic seating, high bench top seating over looking the strait, high tops indoors. It's a family friendly place. Order at the bar. You'll be given a buzzer that will activate when your food is ready to be picked up. Someone does come around to help bus/clean up the tables however. On this occasion we went for lunch. I ordered the broccoli and bacon mac and the brookie for dessert. I enjoyed the many textures in the Mac and cheese. The bacon gave it crunch and the broccoli let me believe I was eating something healthy with vegetables. Flavor wise it was on the milder side. I suppose you can always add a little more salt to your taste. The portions were huge. I was only able to eat about half. Best enjoyed fresh/right away. I felt the bacon lost crispness the next day when I had it for leftover lunch. The brookie was also huge. This was easily the size of an actual sandwich. I supposed for $8 it's good it was so huge. I loved the texture of the cookie. It was very soft. The white filling is marshmallow fluff. So again the texture was wonderful but the taste was a little one note (sweet). I still enjoyed it a lot. It's not a bad choice for lunch. But if you don't drink beer I wouldn't go out of my way to get food here. If you like their beer then it's an excellent accompaniment. read more

Last visit included a MIBC Burger, special (nectarine) salad and pretzel. I wanted to order steak fries and beet salad but they were out of both. Food was good but nectarines lacked flavor (not surprisingly in October) so maybe that's why it was the special. Ever since trying poutine, I had been on the search for the Canadian delicacy here in the states to satiate my cravings. Then one day during a walk along the waterfront, I skimmed through the menu out of curiosity, and bam I see it on there! So naturally I had to try this place out. This place is located inside the ferry building, next to where the ferry ticket kiosk used to be. The inside is super spacious and has lots of seats which are first come first serve. The ambience is great inside and the employees are super nice. There is even a designated spot for playing darts! The poutine was amazing. The cheese pull was great especially when still hot, and the mix of flavors and textures went really well together. Super filling too. I also ordered the smoke salmon deviled eggs because it sounded good. And it definitely was good. Aesthetic presentation as well. So glad I came across here.
