Left insulted by staff (so called "manager Adam?!"), after 10 years thinking this was a family friendly establishment Thought we could grab some solace with a quick bathroom break and a glass of wine away from the crowd with my 6 year old (not good with crowds). The bar area was completely empty aside from one table, no bar tender visible at the bar. We were met with an unexpected burst of energy from one of the patrons at the table who didn't present himself as staff upon our arrival. He turned us away very abruptly, leaving no room for explanation. We later returned after taking a bathroom break elsewhere to try to explain our point of view, and trying to empathize maybe they had been busy all day, and that we'd been fans of the bar and food since before kids. Only to then be insulted by the bar tender with parenting skills put into question. Totally unacceptable for a small town where we rely on friendly, helpful staff. read more

Great experience! My friend got the carnitasl tacos while I got the Siracha shrimp tacos! Both were extremely good!!

There was a change in ownership at this restaurant and sadly it wasn't for the best. The menu for this restaurant is now Mexican so I was excited to try since I have been looking for a good local Mexican restaurant. This was not it. We came in at around 3:30pm and the spot was empty- inside and the patio. We even had to yell hello to see if anyone was there and asked if they were open. The lady said yes and let us sit wherever we wanted. The menu is small and consisted of mostly tacos, burritos, and nachos. We weren't really hungry and told her we were just there for drinks and apps. She did not provide a drink menu so I figured Mexican restaurant, they should have margaritas. My husband ordered a beer that he saw was on tap at the bar when we passed by to sit down. We had no idea how much these drinks would be. Margarita- decent, nothing extraordinary Beer- del cielo IPA had a citrus flavor and was a lot more mild for an IPA Nachos- very plain. Just had the Asada, cheese, guacamole, and maybe a very little amount of beans. There was no sour cream, no pico de gallo, or jalapeños. Side order of fries- nothing spectacular. Strawberry lemonade- was very watered down. We were still eating and vibing out when the lady came and randomly asked us if we were ready to pay at around 4pm. We asked her if they were closing and she said well normally they close at 6pm but they have an event tonight so they are already closed. Wish they had told us that before. So we just paid the bill and hurried up. Our bill was $59 (excluding tip) for just the things I mentioned above. They must've charged ridiculous prices for the drinks because that bill was ridiculous. The bill wasn't itemized and everything was on that small little handheld machine. I was super excited to eat here because I heard it was good. A friend and I were excited to eat out and try a new place and we were sadly disappointed. We loved the woman who served us and I think she was the owner. We both ordered the carnitas plates with different beans and our meat cooked differently. The order arrived mixed up and we had to fix it ourselves. The carnitas meat was yummy but the beans (she had refried and I had black) and the rice were so bland. If we put it all in a tortilla with the salsa, it tasted ok but it was the salsa that saved it. Sadly I probably won't return. Ok, so I have to provide an update to this place. I am sooooo disappointed. Also angry. It wasn't enough that they charged me $15 for a bean burrito they conveniently gave themselves a nice $15 tip. I looked at my bank statement and saw they charged me $71 for a sub-par meal. To remind everyone we ordered a burrito, a burrito bowl, and a cheeseburger with fries, plus 3 drinks. The bill came at around $50. $50!!!!!!! WTF!! I gave them a small tip just to be nice, making it about $56 paid. Now I have to go back and fight them over this. There is no way our dinner was worth eating, for any price, much less stealing extra money for it. This employee must be fired for stealing. This restaurant is a sham. DO NOT GO HEAR. ## wonderful surprise on historic 1st Street ## This business strikes me like more of a restaurant than a cocktail bar. Even though the walls are dark gray, it's actually pretty light inside due to the big glass windows facing 1st Street. While I was eating here, quite a few families came in to eat. So locally, it's known as a great restaurant to come and visit. In fact, chatting with the owner, she explained that a lot of locals come here to chat and just have a good time. I was promptly seated as soon as I walked in, and the nice server quickly took my order. Hey wait a minute, did they know I was going to write a Yelp review? No, I don't think so. They really just are nice people here. I had a chance to chat with the owner as well, who who explained to me the outdoor seating. She made me promise to not take a photo of the outdoor seating, since it's all covered up for the winter. I agreed, but I still can see how beautiful it will be back there. Today I ordered the salmon protein bowl at $17. Probably one of the more expensive items on the menu, but the description intrigued me. The salmon Bowl comes with kale, quinoa, sliced boiled egg, avocado, and dried cranberries. It also comes with citrus EVOO vinaigrette. I did not know what Evoo meant, so I had to ask. It means extra virgin olive oil. Duh! The Salmon Bowl turned to be a fairly simple dish, but it was truly outstanding! This salmon Bowl itself merited a 5-star review. Yes it is that good. Wonderfully flavorful salmon along with tasty other vegetables and grain. Well worth $17. I was surprised that it actually did fill me up. So if you want a change from the usual hamburger or sandwich, I highly recommend this protein bowl. Naturally, they have quite a large number of other selections as well, including breakfast and kids menu, and of course any type of mixed drink you could want. They have about a dozen beers on tap as well as another dozen in bottles. Here's a special treat for this restaurant. Every single day is Taco Tuesday. So carnitas tacos are only $2, and house Margarita is only $5. To repeat, that's every single day! The interior is pretty plain with a hard floor and dark gray walls. However there's all kinds of fun decorations on the walls. Since it's a holiday season, there were lots of attractive Christmas decorations around the business. There are about 10 tables and booths inside, and a few tables out front. They have an outside patio in the rear, but of course in winter, it's pretty much covered up. But in the spring or summer I can see that this would really be beautiful on summer days. Happy hour is Tuesday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Draft beer is only $5. The house Cabernet Sauvignon is $7. The snacks are $2 off. So overall, a wonderful experience dining here. Great food, with friendly service. Great food. Amazing drink selections. Fun party ambience. The service is great! There was a party in the outdoor patio and it looks like the perfect setting to have one. We had the Angel Wings Pork Shanks which is listed as one of their "Favorites," fried calamari, chips with salsa and guacamole, and the kids' quesadilla. We also ordered a beer and a couple cocktails. Overall, it's a great place to hang out and share small bites or a tray of nachos with friends. I came here because I wanted a quick bite and some drinks. The reason I'm writing this review is because of the meat. I ordered a taco and a burrito bowl. Both of them were asada and it was just terrible, it tasted like old meat or meat that has been left out for a long time before being cooked. The tortillas were cooked in manteca which added a good taste but were not cooked long enough causing the tortilla to rip as soon you pick it up. Rice in the burrito bowl was over cooked. Drinks were good but there was no bartender it was the server who made the drinks. So it was a bit slow to receive drinks. Really lonely it was just me plus someone else, it did have a nice vibe. The service was wonderful; the woman who took care of us was very sweet and attentive and was readily prepared to answer any questions we had. She sat us out on the back patio which was really nice and well shaded while still being open enough to let a little breeze through while we waited for our food. The food itself was delicious; the tacos were wonderful and even the more simple kinds were very flavourful. The real gem however was the salsa; truly it was the best salsa both my friend and I have ever had and should be sold in jars because you WILL want to bring it home for later. Months ago we ordered take-out from this place and all 3 meals were so bad that we couldn't eat them. I thought I ordered some sort of tostada or taco salad.... What I got was a cold uncooked tortilla? With a slurry of slop on the top. It had no lettuce or vegetables that I could decipher in the mess. I tried to contact the owner to ask what happened and never heard back. I wasted a good chunk of change on garbage. How sad that this place hasn't taken the opportunity to serve quality Mexican food. I had high hopes for the new owners and don't like to leave 1 star reviews. Unfortunately I know of several Benicians that feel the same way. When I walked in a got a fresh smell of tamales. I got greeted by a sweet young lady and she shortly sat me down. I asked what was the special for today and she said tamales! After a long walk around the marina and downtown Benicia, my boyfriend and I were hunting for a spot to eat to re-fuel. Since this was the day after Thanksgiving, most places were closed before 3pm. Luckily, after driving around Benicia to check out some other stuff, we returned downtown and discovered that this place was open. We were welcomed and sat at a table immediately. The decor was pretty warm and welcoming. They also had college basketball playing on their TVs, which is a huge plus and nice welcoming tactic in my book. The customer service here is amazing! All of the staff were very friendly and attentive. I even had one of the waiters, which I think may have been the owner, approach me to chat about the hibiscus margarita that I ordered (you should try it by the way). Since the glass is lined with Tajin, he was suggesting to ditch using the straw, which I happily took his advice. Since I was intently watching the basketball game, one of the waiters actually mistook me for needing some type of service. It was kind of funny, but it's just reassuring to know that they want to make sure that their customers are well taken care of. The food here was decent, however, I was underwhelmed with the flavoring, or the lack thereof. I didn't get to try any of my boyfriend's food, but I was a bit disappointed in my carne asada fries. I hadn't been here in so long so I was happy when my friend suggested it for happy hour! It has a great ambiance and the menu has great selection of Mexican and American including healthy protein and vegan "bowls" it was hard to decide. But I had tacos which were phenomenal. They have a great patio section but it was raining so we had to sit inside but the decor is fun and we had a window seat. Score! Any who you really can't go wrong no matter what you order tk eat or drink, or where you sit. Just go! You will not be disappointed. Came here for brunch a couple of Sundays ago. It's nice here, small little place with inside and outside seating. Service was nice and quick and the good was excellent. Went in with a small group, trying to help out a small local business that's been struggling to attract customers ever since ownership changed late in COVID. We were the only people in there at the peak of dinner time. Food was okay. Service a bit sketchy. No drink menu. No prices given (given issues will hand written bill and method of payment, per below, pretty obvious why). Bartender delivers a handful of lime wedges with their bare hand. Bill arrived. Handwritten. Bit confusing. Almost $300 for nachos, tacos, burritos and one drink per person. Credit card fee proactively added to the check, okay no problem. Again, small business that's been struggling. We get it. The manager then proceeded to get angry that a credit card was being used and demanded cash. When a member of our party quietly mentioned to the server/bartender that they'd already proactively charged us a CC fee and it was not a great business practice to also give a hard time for using the CC, server/bartender doubled down, got very argumentative and went on the attack verbally. Nine 0 Seven was a bit of a sophisticated surprise in downtown Benicia. We stopped there for lunch on Saturday, drawn in by the variety on the menu and the cozy, yet sleek interior. They had about 10 or so tables inside and it was completely full, however we were promptly greeted and offered patio seating. The back patio was a nice surprise-charming garden decor and nice and toasty with heat lamps. Our server was very attentive and we never felt neglected sitting out back away from the bustle of the main restaurant. The day time menu ranges from healthy salads, hearty sandwiches and even breakfast dishes, served all day. I opted for the veggie quesadilla which was packed with spinach, mushrooms and cheddar. The side of wild grain rice and black beans was a nice touch and most of the dish was very fresh, not too heavy and tasty. I was a bit disappointed in the guacamole side-it was a bit brown and visually unappealing but I dipped my fork in to it to try and it tasted fine. Others around me got sandwiches with the sweet potato fries and the portions were crazy big and the fries themselves were calling out to me "You know you want to call the server back and order these!" But alas I did not. My boyfriend got some type of turkey melt and regular fries which he was happy with but we were both eyeing others around us who ordered breakfast plates-yup those looked pretty amazing too. Sooooo-considering I was eyeing every other dish around me, it's an instant sign to come back and try more of the menu. $25 for two entrees and sodas-plus tip, not bad for the quality and classy bistro type vibe. OK The extremely rare 5 star rating. Ate there for the first time tonight and the food was really good. I had carnitas tacos, my wife had the angel wings and my daughter had a steak. All were exceptional. One of the waitresses does the baking and we had a divine piece of cake. I honestly want to try everything on the menu. I plan on eating breakfast there soon and will provide a followup report. For now YUM!! Went back for breakfast it was very good and will return. I would say very good but not superlative . My friend and I stopped by this place at lunch time on a Thursday and we ended up being the only ones eating here at first. The decor is soo cute. I love the black and red color scheme. The menu is pretty small...the only thing that caught my eyes were the fish tacos. My friend also ended up getting tacos as well, but carnitas I believe... the tacos came with delicious black beans and brown rice. I loved the sauce they put on the tacos; it was spicy and refreshing. My fish seemed a little dry but my friend really enjoyed his tacos. The one thing they kept bothering us were the FLIES. They were everywhere and I actually slapped a couple away to avoid them from touching our food! It was kind of annoying. I hope they get fly traps or something soon.
