It's been a couple of years since I've been into Dr. Kim's office because I moved out of state. I didn't realize what an amazing dentist I had until I've had to find someone new. If it were realistic for me to fly to AZ twice a year to see Dr. Kim, I would! I was a patient for many years. Dr. Kim was always kind and gentle. He would check in with me constantly during a procedure to make sure I was comfortable. What I appreciate the most is that he's honest and doesn't force unnecessary procedures. I probably need work on every tooth in my mouth, but Dr. Kim was realistic on what was urgent and what could wait. He never pressured me into having something done unless it was jeopardizing my oral health. I often had a different hygienist, but they all worked to the same high standard. The front office staff was also amazing. They were friendly and helped me find ways to get the best coverage for myself and family. read more

The front desk staff and the lady who took my X-rays were very kind and helpful. I had an issue where my electronic intake form didn't go through, and the front desk was able to quickly help me get everything sorted out. After that, the hygienist came back in to ask me many of the same intake questions again, which felt a bit redundant. During the visit, I also felt the practice was quite expensive, and the dentist strongly recommended veneers for a single chipped tooth, which felt a bit excessive for my situation. When the hygienist measured my gums, the probing felt very uncomfortable and much more forceful than I've experienced anywhere in my entire life, to the point where my gums bled. I did mention it, but the interaction still felt a bit dismissive, and the overall tone came across as less warm than expected. Hard to deal with this coming from a hygienist who had the worst teeth I've seen at a practice. The dentist was professional, but the overall experience didn't feel very comfortable or reassuring for me personally. It just wasn't the right fit for my expectations in a dental office. If there's lower than one star I would give. Don't go. Period. It's a corporate billing policy. It's a rip off. They charge the insurance so high so your balance end up being higher than what it should be. And Dr. Kim is very nice and detailed and is not condescending. That said, the CORPORATE up sale is not what you want to experience on your first Relationship with a new dentist. I understand it's corporate policy however, exiting paying $113 for a cleaning covered by insurance (and that is after declining the other services recommended) (, is unnerving. Additionally, I can guarantee you that having a patient sign For the fees while in the DENTIST chair, at my age without her glasses is completely unethical and immoral . I have had a traumatic experience with this business. There was a dentist Adrienne Paul Kavanaugh who worked here and gave me two crowns. He installed both incorrectly not only causing me to have to re-do my crowns, but the lower right started to get an infection. The new female dentist at Horizon initially noticed the mistakes and offered to replace the crowns no charge. I agreed to replace one and it took over 4 hours! The process was so long, and it was so late that the dentist was complaining to her assistant that she was going to miss her dinner plans due to how long it was taking. She said Paul Kavanaugh used too much cement so there were complications. When I went to a new dentist to replace the second crown, she said could still see cement on my upper right replacement crown. In addition, she said Paul Kavanaugh drilled my lower tooth down so much that I might need to pull the tooth and be treated by a periodontist. We are currently awaiting to see if this crown holds under my over drilled tooth (praying I don' t have to see a periodontist to have it pulled). When I asked the manager at Horizon (Athena) to credit me for all of the mistakes Kavanaugh made, she said she would only reimburse me for the one crown but not the charges she collected from my insurance or the four-hour process to fix his mistakes. I have now had to pay out of pocket for a new dentist follow up due to my insurance being maxed out for the year by Horizon. I have a phobia of dentists to begin with, but this incident has caused me even more fear, distrust in professionals, and financial anguish. I have learned that because Horizon is a chain they hire inexperienced dentists to 'practice' on patients. I would not recommend this business because having to get two crowns - pay for them and then find out you have to have them replaced again for being installed wrong, is a costly nightmare and if I end up at the periodontist office because of the second crown not holding it will be malpractice. Apparently Kavanaugh is in California now so if he's your dentist - beware! read more

I had the most wonderful and amazing experience at Horizon Modern Dentistry! I had seen Dr Sean Kim in the past for usual dental maintenance, but for unforeseen circumstances I was in need of 2 veneers and a root canal treatment. He precisely and timely put on my veneers the same day I went in for a consult! They look so natural and beautifully done. His work was very detailed and accurate and I was extremely happy with the results. The root canal treatment was just as precise with absolutely no pain, yet he asked me over and over if I was doing okay. From the reception desk to the assistants including these people and all who I had the pleasure of aiding Dr Kim in my experience was a remarkable staff, Atsy, Sarah, Maritza and Brayden to name a few. I recommend Horizon Modern Dentistry with Dr Kim at the helm! By far the best dentist I've ever seen as far as care for providing the well being of health concern on the outside as well as the inside and a super duper beautiful smile! read more

This dental office is a complete scam, and you should avoid it at all costs. I had been going to Arcadia Modern Dentistry for 6 years, and they were good, so when I moved, I thought switching to Horizon (which is in the same chain) would be fine. Absolutely not. It took 3 different x-ray technicians over 20 full minutes to do my X-rays because they clearly had absolutely no idea what they were doing. The hygienist then came in, didn't clean my teeth, but tried to upsell me on a different type of cleaning. They then sent Dr. Kim in, who slightly tried to upsell me on the other type of cleaning but mainly tried to upsell me on two completely different things. I had been to my old dentist exactly 6 months earlier, and none of what he brought up as issues had been noticed by the other dentist. All in all would have been $15,000 total, $10,000 out-of-pocket. When I refused all of the upsells, they then refused to do my cleaning, even though I had been there for over an hour and a half at that point. Six days later, I was able to go to a different dentist. I requested that my xrays be sent to the new dentist, and they were not. When the new dentist asked, they were sent over, but so compressed that they were not able to use them. Additionally, the new hygenist noted that the x-rays didn't capture any of my roots and would have been worthless at any resolution. The new dentist found absolutely nothing wrong with my teeth or gums. read more

I used to live down the street from this clinic and a friend of mine recommended this place. I have been coming here for more than 7 years now and used to love the staff. Rosa at front desk was just Amazing and Dr. Seymour was the BEST!! In the past year all the staff have been replaced and this place has become so commercial!! All they seem to care about is make money and not what the patient actually needs. I went to get a cleaning done with absolutely no pain hoping it would be an hour long visit but was stuck their all day(5 hrs) and got a crown done, had to go back three more times due to sensitivi rather than addressing the tooth with sensitivity Doctor recommended I get a crown done on my other tooth. He will put you on hold on purpose for at least 20 minutes, won't return phone calls, and is literally holding my husband's retainer for no reason. I can't even believe this is the same office. I was one of the original patients when Horizon Modern Dentistry opened. I have referred many people, however, I will NOT refer any longer. The last 2 people I recommended to go there, they scared both patients telling them they needed major dental services. These 2 people went for second opinions and other dentists said they did not need. Now, I emailed them questioning pricing on a procedure that I was told I needed, and once I questioned them, they could not give me the decency to email me back. They are over priced and dishonest. My daughter (who is a minor) had her wisdom teeth removed this morning 10/20/2021. Again my daughter is a minor the procedure called for deep sedation through IV. She was called to the back for her procedure and I was told to wait in the waiting room. An IV was to be used for sedation. She had 3 UNSUCCESSFUL IV pics before they came to inform me. My daughter being a minor I should have been with her until the IV was complete. I was then called to the back and she was visibly upset, in pain, crying and shaking. They proceed to call in another person to do the IV and she did fine and it was quick. Why did they put a child through unnecessary attempts when they had someone who could do it easily. I proceed back to the waiting room. About 45 minutes later a staff member comes rushing from the back to the exit door with my daughter in the wheel chair. Her head was hanging down and she was unconscious. I was in shock and quite frightened!! I was not informed the procedure was done and they were waiting for her to become conscious. Most professional and ethical practices will inform the parent (or person waiting) about the procedure completion and safety of patient. No report at all only my daughter being rushed quickly through the lobby to the exit door. The staff member didn't even stop to get me!! My daughter was not conscious (as the staff member repeatedly said she was). Instead she was slumped in the wheel chair with her head hanging down. This is the MOST UNSAFE PATIENT CARE I HAVE WITNESSED!!! I informed the staff member that my daughter was not okay and still unconscious. She then tells me "I can sit with her another 20 minutes". Why didn't she do that before she proceeded to rush my daughter to the exit door? She knew my daughter was unconscious and not in a safe and healthy condition but still proceeded to rush her out the exit door. The patient care at Horizon Modern Dentistry is UNSAFE and UNETHICAL! The staff is obviously not trained properly in safe patient care! If you value your time do not go here. My last visit after waiting an hour and a half the dentist never came so I had to leave to pick up my daughter without my check up by the dentist. This was not communicated to me that they would not be coming and I could have been waiting hours. They do not value patients who schedule 6 months in advance. I'm scheduling with a new dentist who said they will complete check ups and cleanings within 30-60 minutes and this is standard to be done within this time frame. I used to like this office but after the last two appointments taking too long with me sitting waiting I cannot recommend. On a previous appointment they called me to come in 30 minutes earlier which I did but still ended up taking over two hours with me sitting and waiting for a 5 minute check up. I have called them to remedy the situation but they cannot and do not value or prioritize you as a patient anymore. After years here I'm moving on. Dr. Kim is a joke! Not a funny ha ha joke, but a how the hell did this guy get his license kind of joke. I went to get a root canal and a crown and the calamity began. Kim popped in and out of the room graciously offering my mouth a break as he put it, but in reality he was double booked and just wanted to share my appointment time with another patient. Realizing he was short on time, he rushed my root canal, "ledged" my molar and realized he had made a horrible mess of things and was on the the verge of perforating my tooth, which would have likely cost me my tooth. He said, "hey I don't have the skills to fix this mess", then sloppily put on some temporary tooth sealant which fell out over Christmas. Yeah! When confronted with his failure, he offered me 10% off my crown, but that's the best he can do, because he needs to be sure his needs are met. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST! DR. Worst experience, don't go. Sat in the waiting room for over 20 minutes before going back for x-rays. Took over 20 x-rays and then told me they never received my previous records. I received no less than 10 outreaches by phone, text and email and no one mentioned they hadn't received my previous records? Get into the exam room and dentist says everything looks good. I have now been there for over an hour. The hygienist comes in, does an exam and say she won't be able to clean my teeth because I need laser treatment. I have been going to the dentist every 6 months for my entire life. I do not need laser treatment and they were just trying to "upsell" my regular visit. I was looking for an dentist in the Scottsdale area and Horizon Modern Dentistry is the absolute BEST! I have needed several appointments and Dr.Kim and his team are the greatest. Dr. Kim always checked in on me during the procedure and asked if I needed to take a break. He even got me a blanket because I was a little cold. This breaks my heart to write as I respect Dr. Kim's work but his staff is not as respectable. I have been trying to rectify an issue with 3 different bills they have sent me that are all paid. It started in person with Rosalinda the office Manager then after no responses no follow thru in person and no responses to my emails requesting copies of the breakdowns of my procedures, I do not know what ellse to do. So, I am starting here. Issue 1) They provided my daughter with additional treatment without my or her consent. My daughter is an adult though I do look after her due to mental challenges and have POA. 2) Not only did I get billed twice for the same procedure. Once for me and once for her. I have never had this procedure done. Then I found out they took payment, twice from my daughter! I couldn't believe it. I was beside myself. 3) When I called to discuss this there were no returned calls or emails. 4) I finally got a response after stating I would leave feedback on a website regading the issue. Which is ridiculous! Though, this is not regarding that - wait! 5) I thought working with Taylor Morse I was getting somewhere, finally! Nope, sent her everything and didn't hear back, no calls or emails. So, I called and I was told that Taylor no longer worked there. Well, that is no good for anyone.6) Still no f/u. I have now waited over 42 additional days and I continue to receive statements for services not render and w/o authorization, in addiation their hygienist liad about doing a procedure on my child! 7)They do not have a signature showing authorization for the procedure. This will be f/u with the medical board. I am still waiting for an itemized bill for my procedures which was requested in person several times from Rosalinda the office manager, and I was told it would be emailed to me. Never received. I also requested it via email dating back to July 6, 2022. I will happy provide documentation to any interested party. No one should have to go through this.
