We had Horizon Tree Management come to remove approximately 15+ trees of various sizes. Danny and his crew were fantastic. They arrived on time, and work was completed well before the end of the day. He had a large chipper that chipped entire trees! They cleaned up the debris left. He also trimmed a large oak down from the power lines (far better that what PG&E does). He had given us a quote that was beyond reasonable. We had our insurance non-renewed (State Farm) and feel much better now about any new inspection from our next insurance company. I am very impressed with Danny and his crew. We have been looking for over a year for a company to take out a large Douglas Fir tree in our backyard. It is wedged between our backyard fence and our neighbors, while also having limbs hanging close to high voltage lines. This made it difficulty to find someone to remove it at reasonable price.After submitting a request to Horizon I heard from Danny the same day and he came out to take a look. He was transparent and knowledgeable about how to handle the project. His price was more reasonable than other companies. My neighbor was getting work done so we went over and asked if Danny could come over to our place and give us an estimate. (By the way, my neighbors said they were happy with the tree work, but, found out later that they spent hours raking and cleaning up their yard after they left.). Danny was very professional and listened carefully to what I wanted. The next day we received his formal estimate. We walked over to our neighbors to examine the work and determined that they were not arborists but just "choppers". So we decided that we only wanted them to work on the cottonwoods at our Fenceline, and two trees next to our shed. The estimate he sent me clearly stated the job was to TOP the cottonwoods and leave 6ft. from the bottom. Right before they started to work, I had a conversation while nearby the trees, that went like this. "Are you going to cut those trees at 6 feet? " Danny replied "6, 8 feet... whatever you want ". I replied "that's great, please cut at 6 feet. "I literally watered one plant walked up to my house and heard the loud 'thunk' of the tree. I smiled to myself because I was happy to tree had come down but when I turned around it was chopped all the way down at the base, and there was a saw that had already started cutting into the second big tree at the base. They cut the trees ALL THE WAY DOWN!!! I explain to him, I was very upset, that the only reason why we planted those trees there was to cover up the mess that my neighbor has on the other side of the fence. We were cutting them at 6 feet was so that they could grow out bushy and covered with leaves, to keep neighbors junk out of eyesight!!!! He was apologetic & said that he would go get "2, 6foot bushy alders", and replace them " by Saturday" he said. Ummmm, 2 new alders compared to 8 to 10 inch diameter trees was NOT "replace". But, to be helpful, I called around to the local tree farms, & nobody had any. He went on to do the rest of the work that he had bid, but, I (not my nice husband) wanted to send him home immediately, with not a cent, after cutting down my three Cottonwood. Not to mention it was done minutes after we had JUST had a conversation about it. (his explanation was that he "forgot".) So, when they were done we decided to give him the opportunity to do the right thing. We handed him back the estimate for the work that was to cut 3 trees at 6 feet, buck & chip, ($1,400.), &asked him to make the proper adjustments. Frankly, since our trees are GONE, I would've thought he would've said how sorry he was and that he didn't feel right at full charge. My husband and I had a conversation about what his response would be. We decided that whatever he said , that we would accept and his conscience would deal with him, or Kharma would eventually. ‍ He said he'd knock off $150. Um? Wait? Uh! What? Then he said, ok $250.!! Is he kidding? Our trees are chopped down to the base. His original mitigation offer was to drive around the county and look for "2 , 6 foot, bushy alders", (his words)! He'd have to pay for the trees that he would never be able to find, and dig into the hard clay that is our soil to plant these impossible to find trees, in 2 days time? Ridiculous offer. Shame on him for charging us $1150. for chopping our trees to the base. One might say that they are going to grow up. Yes, but they're always going to be like a bush. They will never have the long, pretty bark trunk, with the growth coming out of the top of tree. NEVER! I wish I could give this business zero stars. He is young, he is inexperienced, and maybe he will learn over time. But, who knows. We would never recommend. read more

Horizon had done work for our neighbor and she was really happy with their work, so we asked for a quote. Danny gave us detailed description of how he would take weight off of the ends of 3 of our Oaks, and we went for the "full tidy-up" of the Oak that is above our roof. They would also take down a Palm tree that was too close to power lines. Danny, his brother Eddie, and their crew came out this AM and completed all 3 Oak tress as well as a Palm tree in one day. Their work is amazing and they were professional, courteous, and super hard working. They did an amazing clean up - our walkway and driveway are cleaner than when they first arrived. Super friendly guys that did exactly what they described - and the trees look so much healthier, lighter on the tips, safer, and tidy. Some of the branches Eddie was cutting were 60 ft above grade - gotta respect that. We will hire them again whenever needed.
