Came here for lunch with my girlfriend for the first time. It took the host a little bit to seat us in a not too busy dinning room but it took the server for ever to bring us the menu and drinks. It almost seemed like she was a little overwhelmed even there were not a lot of people. I had the special (yellow fin tuna and salad) and my GF a ruben. Tuna was a little bland but the Ruben was absolutely delicious. We were never asked if the food is good or if we would like to have a refill which was a bit disappointing. I'm not picky, but that was the worst dinner I've ever had. I ordered fried calamari and it looked as though it was microwaved. It tasted awful and I couldn't finish it. I also got a coke and it was very flat, not to mention it being $3.50??? My boyfriend ordered steak and half of it was raw. I would have tipped the waitress more but she never made eye contact and didn't seem interested in speaking. The total for a coke, calamari, steak sandwich, and a philly cheese steak was $52. While spending a weekend in North Conway we had dinner at this restaurant with a group of friends. We decided to stop here after seeing some other Yelp reviews and decided to give it a shot. Below are a few highlights; 1. The restaurant was packed on a Thursday afternoon so if you are in a hurry this isn't the place to go. That being said, they give you a buzzer that reaches to a few shops in the area, so shop as you wait. 2. The service here was hot and cold. The hostess wasn't the most pleasant and to be honest didn't say anything when we left which was frustrating. She was a bit busy with her cell phone. Out waitress on the other hand was polite and receptive. 3. The food here was INCREDIBLE! Our calamari was delicious, the burger my wife got was perfectly cooked and my wings were the best I have in a long time. In the end, we loved the food but wish the service was a better. I had the shrimp and I sh*t you not - after my first bite I literally said to my husband "If I don't feel well in 2 days, remind me of this meal" Fast forward to 2 days later - I came down with severe abdominal cramping, vomiting, diarrhea. 2 days after that, I was admitted to the hospital with a rather aggressive strain of e. coli. I didn't eat at any other restaurants during our time in North Conway, so this had to be the source of contamination. This is going to be a very mixed review. On vacation with family in No. Conway and was impressed with Hfeathers the first time we were there. So much so that we went a second time. The food and service was good and the price was fair and we had a great view of a storm moving through the mountains. Our server was very nice and our 4 year old devoured her diner. However, the second visit resulting in us leaving after ordering. We waited twenty mintues for a table despite the appearance of a very light crowd. Finally we were in and ordered, we knew exactly what we wanted. We ordered the chips and salsa to start (a dish that requires no prep). Then a party of 18 with two screaming toddlers and other misbehaving kids were sat in our waiters section. 10 minutes later we did not even see our waiter or the chips. We asked to be moved, along with two other families, away from the noise but were told it was not possible. I understand this is not totally the restaurants fault, but they cant ignore a small group for a large one. read more

Stopped in on a shopping trip with my mother. The Crunchy Panko Chicken Finger appetizer was pretty good and that's about where it ended. We both ordered the Beets and Goat Cheese Salad on the menu, which is described as "over fresh field greens and red onions with light sherry vinaigrette". Well, when we got our salads our "field greens" were a bed of iceberg lettuce with perhaps a few pieces of field greens here and there, but definitely 99% iceberg lettuce. Iceberg is of course a much cheaper ingredient with a very different flavor pallet to field greens. We thought we might have misread, but re-read the menu on our phones, and nope, definitely says field greens. Our waitress was nice enough, but pretty spacey and never really came to ask how our meal was. We just ate our diappointing salads because it wasn't the worst thing ever, but it certainly was not delicious. Our waitress asked if we were ready for the check while waiting on the table next to us. We said yes and she said be right with you. She then served many other tables while forgetting and re-remembering we were ready for a check for the next 20-30 minutes. She finally put the check down so fast, we couldn't even tell her about our meals. We decided to mention the salads to the hostess on the way out the door. Her first words to my mom were, "Well, did you tell your waitress?" We explained the flightiness and lack of check for 20-30 minutes. We were informed "Well, 20-30 minutes waiting for a check is pretty good on a day like today. We're busy." Yeah ... I don't think our feedback ever made it to the kitchen. Not impressed. read more

I came here with my boyfriend after coming to North Conway for years. The host was probably the worst host that we have ever come by. Not only did she not greet us and looked at us confused as to why we stepped in the door, but she was BEYOND rude to both of us. We waited for over a half hour for 2 seats at the bar or what ever came first. Then she told the next customer in line that we were "the problem" because we waited for whatever came first. Then a lovely couple walks through and she seats them immediately at the bar. I couldn't help but lose it. I pulled out my phone to look up nearby restaurants and she caught my attention after yelling at me "MISS MISS MISS"- my boyfriend tapped my arm, I looked at her and she then asked me if my boyfriend was even old enough to sit at the bar. I looked at her and said "I'm 23 and he's 24." I rate this experience with 2 stars. No special drink menu at the bar- nothing special on the menu that screams North Conway.... just an overloaded menu with too many choices.... Worried about food cost? Cut some of those choices... maybe hire some more enjoyable staff because as long as The Host Monstress works there, we will not be back. Good fries though. read more

Boy, has this place changed. I've been coming here for 20+ years. The portions are EXTREMELY smaller. The soup which used to be in a huge bowl, is now in a small crock. And, has no flavor whatsoever. Tasty, accommodating, and amazing specialty drink menu. I could stay here all day trying every one of the drinks on their drink menu. Our family enjoyed a nice lunch here. My daughter really wanted chicken parm, but we convinced her to get the chicken parm sandwich, and they served it with the bread on the side for her. My burger was hearty with a nice, crunchy pickle slice and they offered me a gluten free role when I asked to hold the roll). My husband enjoyed a sizable fish & chips. This place is in a nice area, went there on a hot day and was greeted at the door by a nice older gentleman. He was very helpful and seated us immediately making sure we were comfortable. Then our waitress came, the food came out and I ordered the nachos, the fan favorite nachos apparently. They were okay, nothing special and probably wouldn't order again if I went. After finishing, with nobody else in the place we waited for 10 minutes for our waitress to give our check. It was okay nothing amazing. Very disappointing experience last visit. We vacation in North Conway every summer for the last 30+ years and always go to Horsefeathers several times and it's a family favorite. This time was different. The Waitress didn't write down our order, always a head scratcher. My kid ordered a plain burger, just meat and bun. Sure enough they bring out a cheeseburger. He can't eat that so I send it back. It comes back out 30 seconds later, cheese scraped off but still melted around the sides. I send it back, he Can't eat cheese I explain. It comes back out 1 minute later, they insist its a new burger. It wasn't. I worked in a restaurant kitchen for 10 years. It was put in the fryer. Also the same bun which was initially toasted, but after 3 trips back to the kitchen was now charred. We werent rude, didn't make a scene. I understand things are tough right now. I gave my son half my meal. Hopefully this isn't indicative of the direction Horsefeathers is headed. read more

Over 45 minutes for calamari, potstickers and 2 Caesar salads (we only received 1 salad). Yes, they were warm at best. Our entrees came out while we were eating appetizers. Hot and fairly decent. The waitress didn't know the specials, actually told us the entire restaurant was out of chicken... we question it, yes-out of chicken... a few minutes later we ask if she meant they are out of the special- fried chicken?.. yes this is what she meant. I could go on and on. At least she was happy-laughed all night long. Drinks- Same 45 minute wait. She was too busy to go downstairs to get the beer. One of our party finally tried to find a manager, landed with the bartender. The wine was poured but he wouldn't let us have it, he wasn't getting the beer either. We were seriously discussing leaving, but now it was 7pm. where would we get a table at that time? All the tables around us started discussing the service. But again, not really that busy. I give this place a solid three stars, even though it was overpriced. But then again, it is smack dab in the middle of the biggest tourist strip in the area, so I get it. The server was very nice, and very accommodating to our requests, but we did have to wait for about 10 minutes before she came to the table. The food was good, not great. We have been stopping by Horsefeathers on and off for the last 6 years. Not my favorite - but others like it. This past Friday we stopped in for a quick bite to eat. The woman that greeted us- if that's what they call it was beyond rude. My husband and I kind of looked at each other as she was so rude when I told her we wanted to get a drink and a bite to eat. She snapped at me about the booths being full in the bar area. She sat us in the ice cream parlor area. The waiter Joe was excellent. The bartender - didn't catch his name is always talkative and friendly. Makes a great Bloody Mary too. I will definitely think twice about visiting in the future. It's such an iconic restaurant that many tourists visit. I was just flabbergasted by the dirty looks and rudeness of the so called greeter. Remember first impressions are everything. read more

Do not recommend - seriously save yourself the effort and go somewhere else. The food is horrible and the service isn't great either. My husband ordered a salad with chicken . The chicken was rubbery Costco chicken. I ordered the soup (clam chowder) and salad. The clam chowder was the worst I've ever eaten - the consistency was more like a gross potato soup. We sent both back and said we were good (weren't rude just don't like to order something after sending the original order back). The waitress came back letting us know they took off my husband's salad but couldn't take off my meal. She said "no one has ever complained about the chowder and it was made this morning". Needless to say I pushed back. The manager never bothered to come over to us and the waitress flew back by tossing the bill at us. She did take my meal off but the whole exchange was horrible. We weren't rude just unhappy with the food. We did still pay for drinks and a kids meal/tipped her appropriately but we'll definitely never go back. A SHIVERING MONKEY! Cheap, sweet, less boozy than you'd think. Otherwise, TVs abound for your apres-ski antics. Probably the closest thing to an off-mountain pick up spot you'll find in North Conway.
