Came here with big family group for my birthday celebration. Miso soup was perfect and not too salty, salad was meager and wet and tasteless. I ordered hibachi dinner with filet mignon and chicken and good portion of fried rice served and nicely seasoned. Chicken was inedible like a sponge but filet mignon was tender and juicy. Veggies were typical of a hibachi restaurant. My family attempted to surprise me with dessert (tartufo ice cream in chocolate shell) but it was brought to the table after the check and was served without a candle to the wrong person! I was so excited to hear they were opening Hoshi Hibachi and it was the talk around town for sure! I went to their opening night and it was magnificent. My girlfriends and I sat at the Hibachi tables and by the end of the night everyone was toasting to one another around the table. I absolutely love the owners and the place is beautiful! The food is delicious and everything came out on time. Even their customers are fun and warm. They have Hibachi tables ( fun and entertaining) , a separate dining area ( more private) , a bar ( just for some cocktails) and a sushi bar ( the chef's are a pleasure) . Anything that you're in the mood for, it's there! You have to come see this place..it's worth the trip. In fact, I live on the north shore and I have traveled a few times already, to eat there. HORRIBLE! Gave me food poisoning!..... Went there at 1:30 on a Sunday, they were closed. Apparently they don't open til 2pm. Ok, fine. So then I decide I want a lunch special, go to order and I'm told the lunch specials aren't available. I ask why, she says its "policy"...ummm, ok. It should probably state that somewhere, but it doesn't. The calamari was average/slightly below average. Rolls were average. Maki salad had a strong mayonnaise taste. Waitress sucked. Overall, the place is beautiful and the ambiance is nice, but the sushi is mediocre and the service sucked. It's obvious they focus on appearance than good food/service. I'd rather have good food & good service in a less frills kind of place. Usually places spend a majority on one or the other. Not both. I came here on a Friday night at 7:30pm and our party of 4 was seated in the regular dining area right away, no reservation needed. We ordered a shrimp soba noodle dish and the teriyaki chicken, both of which were good, and the "Sushi For 2" was awesome - great variety, fresh, and well made. Unfortunately my mixed drink was WAY too strong to enjoy (weird to complain about, I know) and we had a hard time keeping our other drinks filled. This place is great! Went with another couple on a Saturday night. Glad we made reservations because there was a wait. I had the Primosa cocktail which is was strawberry vodka and guava flavor...awesome. The food was really really good. My boyfriend and I went here for dinner on a Friday night. It was super busy or packed which was good. The hostess at the door was really nice and welcoming to every customer. She even let us sit down while we waited for a our table. Our waitress was very rude. She looked confused and annoyed when I was confused about something on the menu and when my boyfriend wanted to change his drink order she looked very annoyed. The food wasn't the worth the price at all. The sushi was the best part. The hibachi wasn't good at all, I had to ask to add teriyaki sauce for some flavor. Very disappointing date night. Been coming here since they opened up in Patchogue. Im pretty picky with my sushi with exception of Kotobuki they are the best in Suffolk County. They are also the best Hibachi and they do such an excellent show here. Lunch or dinner the staff is very attentive and the food is great. However if you want to do dinner here on the weekends you need a reservation because this place Is always packed! read more

Hoshi Sushi & Hibachi is a nice place to go for lunch. The chef was great and the sushi looked and tasted fresh. The chef for hibachi was awesome. He made an amazing show for us and even made my four year old niece who was really nervous laugh and smile. (It was her first time at hibachi.) The environment is warm and welcoming and the prices weren't too over the top being that it is in the town. However, I found it odd that they charged for fried rice instead of white rice. (They just turned the white rice into fried rice...) I would definitely go back again if I was going out with a group of friends, or even on a date with my husband. read more

No better sushi restaurant in Suffolk. I've been coming here since it opened, and have never been disappointed. The staff is professional and the sushi always fresh. Stop and say hello to Louis who runs the bar. Great guy, always makes you feel like part of the family. Jay the owner along with his wife leeche are usually around to make sure things are running smoothly. Ate here for the first time tonight While the food was delicious, the service was horrible. We were greeted upon first walking into the establishment by an extremely rude hostess. "Welcome to Hoshi, is your entire party here because if not we can't seat you. You can sit over here and wait". Keep in mind, it's a Tuesday night and there are a total of 4 patrons in the restaurant (no exaggeration). Our party of ten arrived, the latest about 15 minutes after our reservation time (again, nobody else here) to which we received a lecture about how on weekends, we would have lost our reservation due to the 1 out of 9 people who arrived late. The service was slow and lacking, the hibachi chef was wonderful and the food was delicious. We sent one beer (of many) back because it was bad/gone skunk. Also, had to ask for water 3 times before receiving. Upon finishing our meal, we were not asked about coffee/dessert but instead presented a bill from a waiter who didn't say a peep, just dropped it on the table. We paid our over $400 bill and as we were exiting, we were pulled aside by the same rude hostess who was inquiring why we left a $50 tip instead of the $55 (18%) recommended on the receipt. Yes, they questioned us over $5 on a TIP. Keep in mind, myself and entire party have or currently still does work in customer service so we are no strangers to customer experience or tipping. We were polite the entire night despite lack-luster service for no apparent reason (again, almost completely empty restaurant). The hostess reasoned that "if we had a bad experience you need to tell us so we can go in the back and yell at somebody", word for word that is NOT an exaggeration. I have never left a bad review in my life, and have never crossed a restaurant "off my list" before in my life. Having worked in service previously (including restaurants) I can understand a "bad night", however the treatment we received was completely unjustified. Will never be back, there are many other hibachi restaurants within a few minutes drive of this place with equal if not better food and 100% better service. read more

I love hibachi and always like to try new places. Hoshi was good but not great. Upon entering, the place definitely looks new and modern, the bar area, albeit small, was very tasteful. We sat there while we waited and felt very crowded. The drinks though were good and not watered down which kind of made up for the price. The hibachi tables were very nice as well. The chef unfortunately was the least animated and interactive one I have come across. Still he prepared the food great and the substitution for noodles over rice was a nice change. The food tasted good, not great, but good. The portion though was definitely on the better side and I did not leave hungry. Meh.. I don't know. My experience last night was par level I'd say. I am a sushi snob so when anything is less than perfection, I can be one to immediately turn up my nose. We go in at around 6:30 on a Sunday and the place is relatively crowded, but we get a table right away regardless. Then one girl comes over to us and has us clean our hands with these wet towelettes, asks what we'd like to drink and we ask for more time. A different girl comes over and tries to get us to wash our hands again with the towelettes. I was like, we already cleaned our hands. And she responds, "Are you sure?!" Are we sure.... Yes we are. We get our cocktails, both get the Mariposa, which is a strawberry rum drink on the rocks. It was relatively tasty. So I guess I figured out that there was a confusion in servers for our table, but nonetheless, we order our food, 2 sushi rolls and a side of hibachi fried rice, and then we wait, and wait, and wait, and wait. We probably waited over thirty minutes for two rolls and rice. Why? I had to finally ask where our food was because no one was paying attention to us. We had the Patchogue Roll, which had spicy tuna, cuke, avocado, king crab topped with mango salad, and caviar, it was scrumptious. In the Philadelphia Roll, the rice was hard. The hibachi rice was decent. There are so many other good sushi restaurants around, but I will probably be back because I have eaten at Hoshi before and the experience was much better. read more

Went there for lunch with a friend and we split the salmon teriyaki box lunch and a sushi lunch special. The food was presented beautifully and it all tasted very good. And, it was alot of food for lunch. The bill came to $30 which isnt too bad for dining out for lunch. I was laughing because they had a television show on in the dining room that was about some gorey crime scene investigations. they kept showing graphic blood and body parts scenes. Honestly, if I am not sitting at the bar area, a television is not necessary in the dining room. I did not want to see fingers getting cut off and blood stained bodies while eating raw food. place is clean. i am all about that. the bathrooms were spotless, that is usually a tell tale sign about how you run the place. if you don't care about that then the rest of the place is falling apart. the staff is always great. never had a bad meal here either at the table in the dining room or the hibachi table. we used to travel 30 miles to get good sushi. now it's a hop skip and a jump for us. come from afar cause it's worth it. 7-2015 went to hoshi the other night. ordered the sashimi delux. it's supposed to come in a big bowl. they said that they ran out of the bowls....hmmm i was sitting in the dining area and no one else had what i got to eat. stupid excuse to say the least. i got 2 orders of eel sashimi i got 4 peices that were actually 1 order cut in half. the waitress said that the usual chef was not there. come on now (not my first rodeo here) iv'e been coming here since they opened the doors to the place. even after i brought it to the attention of the server they did not correct it.....kinda pissed to say the least of lack of attention to detail and consistency. i'll be back but with more attitude to speak my mind and just send it back and make them suffer. read more

Went to hoshi for my first time. I say down with a group for hibachi. Took forever to have a waitress come to our table. Service was the worst I've had. I had an empty drink the entire night. The rice wasn't cooked all the way. My fish was undercooked. Then when we told the waitress we needed separate checks at the beginning of the night and got an attitude which caused her to not come to the table that much. Overall I wouldn't go back. I was unhappy with the entire experience. I recommend using a different hibachi place. read more

Consistently the freshest fish on the south shore of long Island. The appetizers are excellent, from the Ocean Trout with fresh wasabi on top to the Fluke truffle or the tuna dumplings. We always have a great meal there. read more
