Third time definitely a charm. The Oar is definitely my go to restaurant when visiting Patchogue. Once again the service was impeccable. Shout out to both Nicole and Dillion for their warm and friendly manner, attention to detail and overall service. The food as always was outstanding, well portioned and reasonably priced. The baked clams were meaty with very little bread stuffing, a welcome difference with most restaurant clam servings. Tried the fish and chips but subbed a salad for fries. The fish was moist, flaky and slightly seasoned. A dish I'd definitely recommend for those wishing to forgo a burger or sandwich for lunch. Topped off with cappuccinos which an eye catching presentation. Seafood at its best. Service as if everyone had their own waiter, live music and over looking the water where the docked boats are. We did not have reservations, we took a chance and it worked out for us on a Friday night. Valet parking or self service. We ordered the oysters on half shell and a few mixed drinks. A hidden gem! This place is tucked away in a channel in patchogue with great views of the water, boats, and sunsets. A great date night option! Service was quick and attentive, food came out fast, and food was quality and delicious The tuna was cooked perfectly, and the coconut jasmine rice was so tasty. The swordfish had great taste as well and cooked to perfection. Coconut shrimp app came with 3 shrimps, which may be too small if with a larger party. Have been going to The Oar for years. The menu has changed and the prices are high. I went easy on the budget and went with the Penne Ala vodka. Added shrimp for 14.99. There were 4 small shrimp. We took our in-laws to The Oar Steak & Seafood Grill for lunch, and it was the perfect choice! We docked our boat right at the restaurant, which made for such a relaxing afternoon on the water. There was never any pressure to rush, so we were able to enjoy great food, great company, and an incredible waterfront atmosphere. I ordered the grouper over rice, and it was absolutely delicious--fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. And if you visit, do yourself a favor and order the rum punch... easily a 10/10! I had went there today with 4 others. We ordered from their bar menu, and one of my friends ordered chips and guacamole. They gave a very very small amount of chips, so he had asked for extra chips. We were told that it would be a $5 charge for extra chips. We found that ridiculous, and it was. They barely got a handful of chips.. for $5, after receiving a very small amount in the first place. The thin crust pizza really wasn't great, a ridiculous amount of cheese with little to no flavor. It was personally my first time there, and most likely will not return back, especially given the fact they charge an extra $5 for chips and give a small handful. We spent collectively a total of $200 (two separate tabs). What a lovely restaurant! Two colleagues and I had a fantastic dinner here, the restaurant had all the holiday decor out and sits on the water. Not sure how long they've been here but it's clear they're very popular. We had a nice table by the back window with a little view of the boats and dock. We did some nice craft cocktails and coconut shrimp for an appetizer. Two of us ordered the lobster rigatoni and one of us the seafood Fra Diavolo. The portions are very hearty, and they do NOT skimp on the lobster! We saved room for the bread pudding (wow!) and glad we did. Service was great and super attentive. Great night great meal. We pulled the place was packed. I worried that we've had a long wait. When the waitress said inside her out, I said outside and she said us a table right by the open door. We did not have a reservation so we had to wait on a Sunday around six for about 10 minutes. The food was very good. The service was a little bit slow. It was raining outside so we couldn't really enjoy the open air atmosphere. We were seated right away at about 4pm on a Monday. The outdoor waterfront seating is lovely. I only had a glass of wine, but my girlfriend had a cocktail and said it was delicious. We ordered oysters which were not the best I've ever had but fresh and appropriately chilled. We then both ordered salads which took almost 45 mins to come. They have a lobster special on Mondays and by the time we ordered our entrees it was getting busy. We were enjoying ourselves and weren't particularly in a rush. I've been here many times in the past . Mostly in the summer , sipping on a cocktail and listening to music . This time visited with my girlfriend for dinner on Valentine's Day and it did not disappoint . Baked clams and shrimp wrapped in bacon to start were just terrific . My boyfriend and I came here for lunch. It was absolutely delicious and I'm mad we never went here prior today! We started with some Riesling. It was very good! For an appetizer we shared calamari. It was so delicious and plentiful! It could have been an entree with how generous the portion was. We liked that it was lightly fried. We also really liked the marinara sauce it was accompanied with. For my entree I chose Ahi Tuna BLT. It was delicious! The ahi tuna had a black pepper taste. Bacon was cooked to perfection. I chose oar chips as my side that were great as well. My boyfriend had the lobster rigatoni. It was so yummy!! I am absolutely ordering it the next time we go. Generous portions of lobster. The sauce was so creamy too. Beautiful location on the water, lovely to watch a summer sunset at one of their many outdoor tables. We were at one of those outdoor tables enjoying some solid live music, and so we would go to the indoor bars to refill our drinks - and the bar staff was awesome. Patient with questions, helpful with quick tastings of wines or beers, and the place was decent on drink prices - which you don't see every day! We truly enjoyed the wonderful atmosphere while enjoying the music. When it was time for our meal we really enjoyed ourselves - our group got a variety of dishes and all were delicious. As I continue to write up reviews from months past, I honestly almost skipped over The Oar. Now that's totally not because I didn't enjoy my meal, but I didn't take a ton of photos (and that's how I usually remember to pen my belated reviews). Luckily, I had a couple of pics that I'll attach to this four star explanation. You see, this dining experience was back in late July as my wife and I (along with another couple) went here to have a little waterfront meal. I had never been to The Oar, but the other duo had eaten there and their vouching of the place helped in wanting us to go. I mean the view from the patio overlooking boats and waterways was a great way to start things. Our waitress was pretty friendly as well and we began with a round of drinks. You can't go wrong with a crisp Kona beer on a hot summer day, though my wife's mixed drink was nothing special. Luckily, moving on from things that weren't special, we can get into a pretty memorable morsel of food in the lobster rigatoni. This was what I chose to order (after another vouch from the other couple on its superb quality) and it didn't disappoint. The dish had nice chunks of lobster meat accompanied by cherry tomatoes, baby spinach, garlic, and a creamy/oily/truffly sauce. Though not the cheapest endeavor, I was impressed with the tenderness of the lobster and the flavors that balanced out quite nicely. It was definitely something I would consider ordering again. My wife's grilled shrimp and avocado salad was also pretty enjoyable and worked well for that warm summer evening. Overall, The Oar had some great views and friendly service with seasonally tasty main courses (albeit not the cheapest, but that's to be expected). Perhaps their drinks aren't lights out in quality, but if I'm looking for a slightly pricier outdoor summer meal, I could definitely make a case to come to The Oar again at least to eat. And now I'm hungry for some summer vibes...ugh. read more

I used to come here years ago and the food was great. We've been wanting to go together but never found the chance until tonight. We showed up ready for good food, but got a masterclass in snobbery instead. There was a valet sign, but the lot had an open spot and no one around to park, so we parked ourselves. One minute later, a knock on the window from the self-appointed snide valet king: "Valet only." Fine, whatever. Then the valet guy hit us with there's a two-hour wait. Two hours? For two people? Yeah, right. This isn't Rao's. I've worked in the service industry, 7:45 on a Saturday means an hour tops. I called the restaurant right after we left, and sure enough, the real wait was one hour. Basically, we got the deluxe slow treatment because we rolled up in a mid-class car and I wore a band tee not a Range Rover and yacht outfit. Guess we didn't look rich and brotastic enough. We just had a wonderful lunch at The Oar. From the hostess' kindness and consideration getting us a table that faced 2 TVs at my BIL/birthday boy's request all the way through dessert. I got the white cranberry cosmo and it was extremely bitter and impossible to drink. Our waitress was very friendly and the decor and restaurant was simple/nice. The Oar has been around for a long time and I can say without hesitation that not only has it gotten better over time. I went on a recent late Saturday afternoon with a friend. Was a bit surprised that they only had valet service for parking, but maybe it was do to a party in the catering area. It was free & the valet Chris was very nice & funny. We chose to sit outside on deck, there is an inside bar & seating area too, overlooking the boat marina as it was a lovely sunny day. We were seated immediately and our waitress took a drink order right away. They have a good selection of beer & wine by the glass, I'm sure everyone can find something they like. We started with lobster wontons which were filled with a lobster mousse and had two dipping sauces one was ginger and the was sweet maybe plum sauce? There were 4 pieces and were very yummy. My friend got the avocado salad with grilled shrimp. It was a nice portion and she said it was good. I got the Oar burger which seemed to be a take on a smash burger though not too thin as I requested it medium rare and it close to that. It came with bacon, fried onions & your choice of cheese. A good if not really remarkable burger. The Oar Fries however were the STAR of the meal for me. Random cut pieces of potato fried crispy and seasoned, I'm not usually an eat all the fries person but I gobbled up every last one! We did not have dessert so I can't review that, but all in all if you are looking for a really good place to eat, especially on a nice summer day and want to sit outside, I highly recommend the Oar read more
