I wish I could add 10 stars! I thought Hospice was for people with terminal cancer. I had no idea…read morethat it was available to anyone. A few weeks back... my Grandmother was taken to Lockport Hospital to receive treatment for acute edema. She had not been well for sometime now and her condition continued to worsen. She had been living in a local nursing home. After being admitted to the hospital she was carrying more than 90 lbs of fluid on her small 4 ft 9 in frame. As a woman in her 80's, this was very serious. The hospital, following their normal protocol, was putting her through what seemed cruel and inhumane red tape. Blood pressure checks every few hours and countless attempts to draw blood leaving trails of black and blue marks. I reached out to a friend of mine who had a wonderful experience with Hospice in Wilmington, NC and they recommended calling our local office. We did and it was the best phone call we ever made. Hospice sent someone over right away to evaluate her and they determined after all the life prolonging measures the hospital was under going that she naturally would have only a few more weeks of life. This is not how we wanted her to leave. Crying in pain every day. She was admitted into Niagara Hospice the next day. I flew in the day after and saw a relaxed look on my mom's face for the first time. She walked me around the facility which looks like a beautiful hotel. The folks that work here are the kindest most caring people I have ever met. The purpose of this place is for family to be with their loved ones in a peaceful non-stressful environment. That is what this place is. They have beautiful landscaped gardens and areas to sit and reflect or gather yourself and your thoughts. The flowers are all maintained by volunteers and are exquisite! There is a coa pond and walking path with gazebos and stone paver tributes to others before us. The staff caters breakfast lunch and dinner to the family so you never need to leave. There is a conference room, a child's play room with computers and games as well as a chapel. They have a fully appointed kitchen area with couches and big screen TV. They also provide a pretty nice selection of music to take back to your room to enjoy. My Grandmother and my family found peace in a time of need from the wonderful staff at Niagara Hospice. We thank you for giving my family and my Grandmother a comforting warm environment to say goodbye and celebrate her life. We are planning her memorial tribute which will forever be etched in the stones at this facility, remembering her amazing spirit and kind soul which flies above us now on the wings of every songbird that sings there. If you are in need, please call them. They are truly there for you. If you have to give... give graciously to this worthy cause.

Sometimes in life you would be perfectly happy to never have the help of someone even if it's great…read morehelp. But often in life you don't get to choose. Loosing someone who is so incredibly important to you is not an easy experience and the Spiritual Care Department was in contact with me very early on. They have been consistent but never annoying. Periodically I receive a phone call on my machine checking to see how I'm doing and if there is anything I need or anyway they can help me. They send cards and books to read. They include schedules of events that are occurring on various subjects to help you deal with the facets of grief. Group events for others in grief if I'm ready to be in a group of some kind. Of course they are good at what they do. Their persistence does eventually pay off as it were. Coming into six months I'm just starting to think about perhaps, maybe , possibly looking into these groups they offer. Many many months ago I received a notice that they would be having a Mass for my loved one this week. I added it to my calendar and considered it a bit odd having spent so many years in and out of hospitals, I only saw non denominational spiritual settings, so the fact that it was referred to as a Mass I took with a grain of salt. However I double checked and was told that yes it was indeed scheduled in the names of two people, one of which was my loved one. Arriving on schedule along with three other family members, non of us are Catholic, but our loved one was. We were treated to a truly beautiful full Mass by one of the most gentle spirited Priests I have ever had the good fortune to meet. Father Hinton, seemed to always have a very serene and gentle smile and his voice was equally gentle and kind. So when I look back at all of the medical institutions we dealt with , it made me sad that but for Roswell, non followed up at all. But I'm so very impressed with the amount of care, patience and dedication they have put into Spiritual Care. And even though it's certainly not anything anyone wants to have showered on them, I do thank them for being so good at keeping track of the ones of us left behind.

My 91 year old mother just completed a rehab stay at Harris Hill after a fall. She and I were both…read morevery happy with the facility. The vast majority of the staff were absolutely wonderful - and there seemed to be plenty of people to take care of the residents. My mother also felt that the quality of the rehab was quite good. The only thing she complained about was the quality of the food. It seemed to be hit or miss. Some meals were decent, some were not so great. So I knocked off 1 star for that. But overall, if the need ever arises we wouldn't hesitate to go back there.

Oh, where to begin with regard to this "nursing facility?"…read more I'll preface my review by saying that I wouldn't send a cockroach to stay here...although given the cleanliness of the place I'm sure more than a few have taken up residence, and more than likely permanent placement. My dad was here for approximately three weeks for "rehab" after having major surgery. The only reason he went here was because they were the only facility in the surrounding area that had a bed open. I remember the place being called "Harris Hellhole" by people who worked there back in the day, but I figured maybe things had changed since then. Well, how very wrong I was. We had issues with his "care" (term used loosely) from day one. Rude, unprofessional and downright incompetent staff. Inconsistent therapy schedules. Absolutely FILTHY rooms. Insane response times to call buttons. No one answering the front desk phone after like 5 PM. Not being washed enough. Being left to fester in his own waste for 30-45 minutes at a time, and staff getting nasty when asked to help him. Food that was often lukewarm at best. A bed that only functioned properly half the time. Being told to "stop using your call button so much old man." Oh, and I wouldn't be exaggerating to say that they damn near killed him twice. I won't elaborate on that here. All of this taken together set his rehab back significantly. This is all to say nothing of the overpowering stench of urine and feces from the moment you walk in. (It's either that or the rotting flesh of corpses stacked ten feet high somewhere.) I get that it's a nursing home and not a mansion, but come on now. It needs a good deep cleaning at least once a week! Not to mention the many residents you can hear crying "hello, please help me!" from their rooms, with no response from staff, or the ones roaming the halls being ignored as well. You're practically begging for a lawsuit, much like that squalid craphole called Comprehensive Rehab in Williamsville is facing. That place needed to be condemned YEARS ago and every employee within it thrown in jail. HH should face the same fate with the exception of maybe a handful of staff being spared the criminal charges; namely the social worker whose first name starts with an L. If by chance you're reading this, get out of there. You can apply your great people skills and do so much good elsewhere. Perhaps in the VA Healthcare System. People, for the love of all things sacred, do NOT send your loved ones here. They just might die from the lack of proper care. My dad is on his way to a better place as of next week, but because of the neglect at HH he has been in the hospital since Monday. If God forbid you DO have someone here, get them out of you can. If that's not an option, monitor their time there VERY closely. Use your eyes and ears, document EVERY incident and report it to the NYS Department of Health and Ombudsman's office. Now, this is the part where I will get a canned response (probably AI) saying to contact the administrator with my concerns, or that my concerns have been passed on. Yeah, that ship has sailed and sunk. This person supposedly turned one of the Absolut Care locations around, but at HH they are as useless as basketball cleats. Myself and others in the family did just that, and nothing changed. Classic case of "we investigated ourselves and cleared ourselves of any wrongdoing." The aforementioned social worker was the only one who really helped in any way, but even they could only do so much. Oh, and don't be fooled by their cute little pictures on social media showing the residents playing bingo, interacting with therapy dogs and looking all smiles. The truth is something far more sinister, . They have a "five star" image to uphold, collateral damage be damned. Bottom line: Don't. Just don't.

Northgate Health Care Facility - Old facility poor upkeep

Northgate Health Care Facility

To fully understand this review, read to the end. What you…read moreneed to know. My stay here (Northgate) was approximately 14 days and observations noted. All these facilities are partially monitored by management and others. E.g. .. A call button is pressed, light at nurse station and doorway of call button pressed is visibly on. Employee (Aide) enters the room ASAP and turns it off. Then, you are asked "what do you need"? The time stamp from the time the button is pressed to the time the aide turns it off is logged and later into a report. That response time is how all facilities are measured. Note that there is nothing that ensures the Aide will take action to your request. With that understood, my Northgate evaluation. I will start with two assessments. This facility at the time I selected was 2.6. I selected it as a review of these facilities years prior had Northgate at 4.6. In conversation with others. 5.0. Assessment 1 (Dayshift) Amazing staff going well beyond expectations. Strong supervision providing support as required. Food always comes out barely warm. Overall dayshift rating 4.8 Assessment 2 (Nightshift) Some nurses are dedicated to their profession and take a sincere effort to fulfill your needs. Unfortunately, some, not so much. Most Aids I encountered that are pertinently nights take advantage of nurses and minimal supervision. Approximate 30(+) minute wait times as I recall. Had one response to help button an unbelievable 2.5 hours. Can only thank God some dayshift nurses and aides worked over (or covered) into nights. Over all nightshift rating 1.5 Overall facility rating 3.15 Lastly. At the time of this evaluation, most facilities have the same issues. Finding quality (professional) people to hire. Retention. To keep facilities running, a hiring based on "Fog a mirror" must be implemented. I want to sincerely thank a few nurses, aides, my PT/OT staff for an amazing turnaround in my healing efforts. No names to protect those I refer to. However, you know who you are !!!

I understand the odor in regards to urine and stool, but to let somebody sit in that for hours on end is deplorable. The staff is constantly complaining about their hours, the pay, and the residents. The staff is continuously on their phones with personal text or calls and the language that they use is disgusting. People are there to get better or maintain whatever life that they have left and the staff is so miserable that they can't even give them the dignity that they deserve. If I could give the zero stars I would. I'm only grateful that my father was only there for a week.
