Session was good. They provided mats, blankets, and blocks. All I needed was my water bottle. I loved that this class was in the main room that faces the windows. Yiu get some natural light in there. It was a pretty decent full sized class. [ i miss full classes ] The practice style was a vinyasa which is the form I enjoy doing it felt good and glad they focused on shoulders as I needed it after paddle boarding last week. My only downfall and its not exactly their issue but, PARKING is not the best. I parked down the side st and this lady was not so kind to tell me i couldn't park there its clearly near the sign that says no parking on 2nd mo day. So just keep in mind, you may encounter neighbors that aren't happy where you park at. I wasnt even blocking anything either. I will still come back. Since I was chosen for 1 month of yoga. Plus they handed me another free tote with sticker and a coupon. Can't beat that!!

The classes are offered in a beautiful brick building (wood floors, big windows) on what I would consider the 'Main Street' of Lafayette Square. Plenty of parking in front of the studio or nearby. You have to travel through a small alley to get to the door (which is quite romantic... you can smell incense burning as you approach the studio's entrance). All of the instructors are friendly, helpful, and set a good pace for class. A couple of my friends enjoyed their experience with the studio so much they decided to complete the 'teacher training'! It's been fun to attend classes they host now to see how much their practice has developed!

This week I went to a hot yoga class with my husband and his niece (she's a regular here) and although I've done regular yoga, glow yoga, aerial yoga, and yoga on the rocks, I had never done hot yoga so I was game. And I also hadn't done any form of yoga in quite a few months so I was a little weary since it wasn't clear what the ideal experience level was. We signed up online which makes the process quicker since you don't have to fill out any paperwork when you arrive. As soon as we got there we jumped in line, paid for our class ($7 cash/$10 card), kicked our shoes off, and found a space. The class filled up quickly so I'm willing to bet, late arrivals won't get in... which isn't a bad thing. I absolutely loved the studio we were in. The windows look out to Park Ave, but they do have a screen that blocks the sun from beaming down on you (I mean you're already going to be hot enough... you don't need the extra help). I like the whole design of ST Yoga in general. They updated just enough to make it comfortable like the nice finished bathrooms and changing areas, but they left a lot of the original features in tact like the wood floors and the large pane windows. What I love the most is that you enter ST Yoga through the back which takes you through this cute bricked alleyway... it truly feels like a secret that you're being let in on. So hot yoga. It was fast paced and hot. It was clear that it was going to be hot-hot and not just luke warm as soon as we walked in. I didn't mind it, but you'd be crazy if you didn't bring a water bottle (or two) with you. There is no pressure to push your body past it's limits, but more so to listen to your body and know when you can challenge yourself. And any reservations I had about going to a class that could potentially be an advanced class were washed away when I realized any advanced moves instructions were accompanied by instructions for modifications. 100% recommend! This was a fantastic workout that was both challenging and meditative. All of the staff was helpful and welcoming. Oh and they start off their Om's with this little accordion type instrument (different than any studio I've been to, but everyone was on the same key so it sounded beautiful). ST Yoga is a great place for any level yogi and they offer a range of different classes along with some pop up events so you can really find your niche at this studio.

She is effortless in her teaching, and speaks as if she's a friend guiding your body from shape to shape. There's no pretense to her presence, just authenticity and a true passion for what she does. I moved away from a very strong yoga practice and community back home at a studio I adore, and this place already feels like home away from home. The practice space: Thoughtfully appointed with a laid back feel, it's a perfect space to flow. The ceilings are tall, light is abundant, and there's plenty of wall space for an end-of-class legs up the wall savasana. Juicy. Lots of plants and greenery, plus wood and gauzy curtains that lend a very breezy energy. At a glance appears to have space for 15-20 mats (give or take). Logistics: There's one restroom shared by a few wellness businesses in the communal hallway. Entry to the space requires walking up a flight up stairs - there's no elevator that I've been able to find. Parking: Ample street parking - and directly across from Schnucks, so it's perfect to get some weekend or evening grocery shopping done after class. Extras: The community seems to interact with one another and know each others names and faces. Very friendly studio, options galore. Lots of options given and all levels of experience in class. I started coming here almost as soon as I arrived in STL in November because it was reasonably close to where I live and their monthly unlimited pass is ONLY $40. I have been practicing yoga for over a year now in Chicago, Asheville, and Pittsburgh. I have practiced Hatha, Vinyasa, Jivamukti and Anusara, and although I am definitely still a beginner in quite a few ways (can't do the majority of inversions or lotus, for example), there have been times when I've left Solar Yoga believing that I could have taught a better yoga class. A few of those times include: --any time when the "psychophysical warm-ups" last longer than 30 minutes --when teachers call the pose by the wrong name; "boat" for "downward facing bow," for example --when the directions for the sun salutations are given over a CD instead of from the teacher; I could have stayed home and listened to a CD or watched a yoga video! I also don't understand why there is the "Western" greeting of "Pax." "Namaste" is one of the most beautiful parts about yoga for me. And, "peace" and "may the divine light in me recognize the divine light in you," don't exactly translate. However, the center does have its high points. It cultivates a great sense of community that I have not experienced at any other yoga studio I've ever been a member of. Especially a newbie here in STL, I can say that I truly appreciate this. Rebecca gives a fantastic class on Thursday nights! Not only does she lead you through an accessible yet challenging series of Hatha poses the entire time, she also seals the practice with "om" at the end. Jaime, on Monday, nights, is another great teacher. I really like his approach to the more challenging standing poses, such as Half-Moon. However, he is out of town until 3/29/11. Bummer. Ella, at the Saturday 11:30 class, leads a pretty playful practice and has helped me cultivate a stronger sense of compassion for myself both on and off the mat. Part of me has to accept that this is the studio I need right now in my life, even though it's also really the only one I can truly afford right now. That can be hard to swallow, but I know that some days it's revealing to me that I am very much my own, wise teacher and other days it's delighting me with its wisdom. Namaste.

They all have their individuality and quirks and if I want a core workout we can focus onn that if I want a gentle one I choose gentle flow plus the drop in at @ $10 are a plus (going to $12 in March but still a steal). They have stuff to borroww if you don't have your own. It's clean quaint and I've brought friends. They are literally changing lives one pose at a time. Honestly, I have taken restorative classes around the world and this is THE BEST class I have ever…read moretaken!!! The location is easy to get to and there is ample parking. Once you get into the studio, it is welcoming, there's a water station, two bathrooms, and everything you need for new and seasoned yogis!!! And then the class begins and it's like the set of Cheers where everybody knows your name and if you're new, like I was, they're so glad you came!! When you walk into the space, there are candles and stations set up around the room for every participant - bolsters, blankets, eye masks, weighted blankets...you name it, they are there AND crystal bowls for a live sound bath!! This I the first class I have taken where I didn't have to do anything - Nancy hooks you up...she helps you get into the poses, she adjusts everything, she places the weighted blankets on you...she does EVERYTHING!!! It is the most relaxing class I have taken! She plays the bowls and shares words of wisdom all while you are nestled in a little personal cocoon...it was amazing!!! And when the class ends, Nancy is adamant that you do NOT clean up! This hour is your hour - your hour for reflection, your hour for relaxation, your hour for self care...and it was the best hour I spent that week! I look forward to the next time I am able to visit and take this class!! What an amazing class and studio and most importantly, Nancy is an instructor who gives 200% to her students and it is so appreciated! If you're looking for an opportunity to give yourself an hour of love and care and deep relaxation - check out this class, it will be the best money you spend!!!
