Driving home and stopped in Clinton MS. Was not expecting to find much more than fast food options on a Monday night, but we found this gem. We have eaten Mongolian bbq from coast to coast and have never had a bowl as good as what we ate at Hot Bowl. It is in a strip mall and small. Staff were very helpful. The choices were plentiful and varied. The meat selections were so fresh and lots of sauces to top it all off. Our food was cooked perfectly. It's not a fancy place but it is clean and comfortable. That Mongolian place isn't much to look at but the food was on! The staff are amazing and fresh. They give you 3 little dishes one for vegetables, another for meats, and another for sauce. You go up to the buffet and fill them up and hand it off to the staff and they cook it on this huge grill! Small and unassuming place in a strip mall. It's been a little while since visiting a Mongolian BBQ, but the experience is typical. At 6pm in a Monday there were only a couple of other diners present so the place was quiet except for the occasional banging of the cook on the grill top. Strike 1 would be the appearance. The restaurant is old and the appearance dated. Not the cleanest looking dining room greets you. A number of tables needed to be bussed. Makes me a little concerned about their health practices; but they have an A from the health department, so we stayed. I do like that they provide 3 separate bowls, for veggies, proteins, and sauce. Every other Mongolian place always gives just one. I can pile pretty high with more surface area to work with! They let you also choose if you want rice or noodles and give you a choice of type as well. Proteins include pork, beef, chicken, shrimp, fake crab, fish, and a few unidentifiable things. Choice of veggies is adequate. Good variety of sauces too. Strike 2 is the service. I've never seen a cook at a place like this move so incredibly slow or cooking time so very sloooooowwwww. Fortunately no strike 3 so this place survives to eat at another day for us. The food was fresh and came out hot. It was very tasty, but I credit that to the guy who put together the scrumptious combo. If you are in Clinton, MS definitely give it a try. I like to come here for a change from the Asian buffets that's prevalent in Clinton and surrounding areas, the process is simple, choose your vegetables, then protein, sauce and seasonings and they'll stir fry it for you. The staff is friendly and very helpful, the meat selections range from beef to poultry to seafood, I tried the squid once and found it too tough and rubbery for my liking but I just wanted to try something different. I am only giving a 1 star because zero isn't an option. We walked in, she gave us our bowls and told us to grab a tray. The trays were dirty and sticky. The bowls were all chipped up. I started to fill the bowl and a cockroach came from the food and crawled towards me. Most of the food options were empty or had a tiny amount of food. Once I saw the roach, we were done. I was turned off by the cleanliness of the place when we walked in but was willing to give the food a shot. But the bug was a complete no for me. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

This was my first visit at this restaurant . It was recommended by a friend. Upon entering some guy I assumed worked there was shucking peas on a far table . A little boy about 12 came to assist us. My daughter and I were excited to try this place out, but that was cut very short when the lady, (owner, I take it by the snappy tone), marched over to my daughter and totally embarrassed her about how she mixed her sauce and meat. I went by Hot Bowl Mongolia Grill on the first week of 2014 for a midweek dinner. The location is well lit and very clean. They have a menu, but most people eat from the grill. Your server will take your drink order and give you three bowls. You take these to the buffet and fill them with your choice of ingredients in this order: The largest bowl is for vegetables (only), the medium size bowl is for proteins (only), the smallest bowl is for the sauce (only). You can not get just meat in your bowls. They have a pretty good variety of vegetables. The protein section when I went included: Beef, Chicken, Pork, Shrimp, White Fish, Crab, Scallop, Mussel, Octopus, Cuttlefish and more... also Tofu, heartier mushrooms, and pineapple and whole eggs. There were maybe 10 types of sauces available that range from mild to outright chili paste. The grill cooks were good and the meal came out fast. If you combine weird flavors, it's your problem!
