My family recently visited Mr. Chen's for the first time, but definitely not the last. This is our new #1 Asian restaurant. Why: 1) Food quality is outstanding, and above any other we've had. Out of everything we ordered (four separate meals), the Hungarian beef was our collective favorite. 2) Portion size vs cost. We couldn't believe the amount of food for the price. 3) The service was outstanding. If you are looking for a 'date night' atmosphere, this is probably not the place. It is inside a grocery store that you walk through to get in. We actually liked that factor and found it 'authenticating'. Finally, one thing we witnessed that we will return to participate in is the Karaoke rooms (3). We saw a large group of all ages eating and singing. How fun?!?! read more

Visited MR.CHEN'S Restaurant yesterday for lunch and it was sooooo good. If you want authentic Chinese food (they also have some Americanized dishes), this is the place to go! Even the service is 10/10! We ordered: * Braised Tofu: Deep fried tofu then braised in a garlicky sauce-- so good! * Mongolian Beef: I love Mongolian Beef and I haven't found one comparable to AB Grocery in Hattiesburg but Mr Chen's is a close second! We went because of the reviews and we are happy we did. My Brother in Law is a Veg person so he got a Tofu dish and he loved it. It was such a huge plate and I would say enough for 2. He pretty much polished it off so he must have really enjoyed it. My husband got a spicy 3 way dish and he said is was really good and really spicy. I got Chicken and mixed veggies and it seemed a bit salty but I really liked it. We got egg rolls which were average but good. I did ask for a little side of rice to go for my left overs but when she came back she said they ran out and were making more. Ok so not a good idea to run out of rice during dinner hour on a Sunday night. Waitresses was extremely nice and I was understanding. All in all, we were very happy with our first visit. 4 stars for the Restaurant, 5 (more if I could finagle the system!) for the food market. We visited recently, looking for decent Chinese meal. We found it, in the form of Cashew Shrimp and Kung Pao Combo. I also had the Seafood Hot and Sour soup, which I ranked only OK. The service was good. Not much ambiance - the restaurant is inside the market. The real star is the Market - incredible variety of crabs and other live seafood (eels, etc). Also, the lunch price was pretty reasonable for the amount of food served. 1. Appetizers- Shrimp Dim Sum 4.75 Stars. I would given it a 5 star rating but you are served only Four instead of Six. The shrimp were plump and fresh while the thinly wrapper were practically "see through". It had a hint chewiness and the shrimp juice was mild and pleasant. Tip: Request for hot chili oil to enhance the flavor for the soy sauce and shrimp. 2. Kung Pao Beef 4.25 stars - served w white rice and egg roll. The Kung Pao was seasoned well with the soy, oyster, Asian seasoning and chili. However, the spiciness could have been higher for me. Thank the Lord for hot chili oil! The veggies and peanuts were fresh, crispy and crunchy. The peanuts retained its crunch. However, the egg roll was ok - 2.5 Stars. It was oily and bland. I was impressed with the food that I ordered more as take out for my wife and myself. 1. Pad Thai Combo meats - I figured "why not". I've been missing our favorite Thai place and I saw it on the menu. I opened the container and smelled wonderful! 2. I read the reviews and I was excited to try out Mr Chen's, for me it did not live up to the hype. It wasn't terrible but I probably wouldn't go back. I was in town for work and I usually check out several yelp categories: local favorites, Italian, steakhouses and Chinese. I had the General Tso's and the chicken was tough, chewy and the sauce was like jelly (too thick). Also, no lemon for my iced tea but I can let that go I guess. read more

The food and service is great and the restaurant has a nice atmosphere. We have a family of 7 and we all like multiple things so so we ordered several dishes and shared. They have lazy susan's on the tables so it's perfect for family style dining. The market is a treasure in the heart of Jackson. After seeing a recent TikTok review, I decided to give Mr. Chen's a try. A group from our office went, and we were not disappointed! The market was much larger than I ever thought it would be & included very unique finds. Once we made our way to the restaurant, we all had a different lunch special and it was clear that the dumplings and egg rolls are all made fresh, not frozen like you typically find in the Jackson area. Christmas Eve, Eve visit. Spent some time wandering in the grocery store and the dry goods market. Huge and very varied Asian market with a fresh vegetable and fruit section. Fresh fish too. Met some friends for lunch. Mr. Chen's service is always top notch but this time it wasn't up to par. Our server had difficulty understanding us as he spoke very broken English. He managed to get our order correct but we were unable to understand him when we asked about certain dishes. Another issue I had was how our food came out. There was three of us in our party. Two of us ordered appetizers (I ordered the egg drop soup and the other diner ordered some sticky buns). Soup came out early which was good. But the buns came out about 8 minutes after our entrees arrived. And we had to ask about them before they brought them out. Two of entrees came out together and it was over 10 minutes before the third entree arrived. No explanation nor an apology. But food was outstanding as always. Mr. Chen's menu offers a great variety that you should be able to find a dish that you will fall in love with. The food is very authentic and this place is THE best Chinese restaurant in Jackson.
