Then I was put on hold without asking me first, and another employee then tried to tell me that she tried calling me to find out the address for my delivery even though they lied saying I placed a pickup order 2 mins previously on the phone. Located in the former Three Spoons location, Hot Box Cookies has a pretty weird interior, with holes in the wall where the froyo machines used to be. This is NOT a Lawrence exclusive, with the original store being in the hometown of Lawrence's (formerly?) most hated rivals, Columbia MO (booooo!!!). That being said, Hot Box Cookies brings an interesting twist on the cookie bakery with delivery service until 1am for all the hungry college hotboxers (cough, cough). They have all the cookies you'd expect like Chocolate Chip and Oatmeal Raisin with a couple of hipper options like a Cookies 'n Creme with oreo pieces and a Red Velvet cake-like cookie. Unfortunately, the cookies aren't really that exciting, especially for the high price.The cookies have a tendency to be softer than I like, perhaps a combination due to the high butter concentration (you had to have expected that) and a slightly too low cooking time. The interior is a bit sparse, but until milk bars from A Clockwork Orange really take off, I can't really imagine many people wanting to sit around eating their cookies anyway. Hot Box Cookies satisfies a niche that I'm not entirely sure that Lawrence needs (latenight delivery cookies). Lawrence has seen sweet stores come and go like Three Spoons or Cupcake Construction Company, but Hot Box Cookies might just stick around to become a classic. read more

I've ordered from them twice (delivery) and will not do so again. The cookies are underbaked to the point that the oatmeal cookies are inedible (nobody wants to eat raw/uncooked oatmeal, you guys), and the other cookies fall apart in your hands or just kind of ooze uncooked/melted dough all over the place. The convenience and fun factor of cookie delivery is a fantastic idea in a college town, but there's really no excuse for sending out partially baked cookies. Given the price of delivery and the poor quality, just go to the store for Tollhouse dough. HyVee convenience shops keep it in the fridge case too. read more

Wow! You can get hot cookies for a dollar they are wonderful. My wife had the rhesus pieces hot my children enjoyed the M & M cookies and the snickerdoodle cookie is really good. The snickerdoodle cookies is aperfect mixture of cinnamon and butter it is heavenly and quite scrumptious. My wife's favorite was the red velvet cookie. Here's a tip there's a little window to look in where the ice cream machine was from the previous tenant, you will find the hot cookies and they will serve him to you if you ask! I ordered 16 cookies for national Admin Pro day for my bosses, to surprise them so I ordered online. The expected delivery time was an hour after I ordered, which I thought was a long time, but it ended up not getting delivered until THREE WHOLE HOURS LATER. I can only give this place 4 stars because I only tried 1 type of cookie: the veritable monster cookie! Of all cookie joints in Kansas City, either they do not sell a traditional monster cookie, or theirs is bastracized to an unforgiveable proportion - I'm looking squarely in your direction, McClain's Market and Bakery. I drove directly from Overland Park to the sterile, brightly lit basement prep store that hot box maintains in the basement of Mt. Oread hotel and casino. Yeah, it's not a casino, but the cookies are exceptional nonetheless. Pertaining to the monster cookie, a tad less butter, conversely more flour, and a pinch of kosher salt more will replicate the old world monster cookie that I searched 150 miles for - but i get why you made it how it's served, and I dig it as is. My wife has never had a monster cookie, and I'm glad to have shown her the light inside a hot box. Complete a yelp check in, and you get a free cookie! What makes any night better? Free cookies! Life changing cookies. Enough said. But since the site wants me to type more I will do so. At work today, a gentleman who we assisted was so grateful that he stepped out to buy us some HotBox cookies. They came back, still warm and made the room smell awesome. He got us an assortment of all the different flavors. The first bite of Chocolate Chip was divine! It was so deliciously sweet and crumbly. Also the cookies don't have that weird gritty texture that you get at a lot of other cookie places. I wish they had a location closer to my home. read more

I'm not sure why people are complaining about the decor of this place. It's a cookie shop- a place to go grab a cookie and go, not to impress your first date or your out of town guests. The cookies are soft- yes- but really, who wants over-cooked crunchy-crumbly cookies? I think soft is the way to go, personally. The cookies are fine. They taste like cookies. Nothing is horrible about them and nothing is super awesome. They're just good cookies. There is a 4 dollar minimum on cards, however. read more

No, no, definitely no! After all of this, I spoke with the GM and he was very nice and told me everything would be set. I had changed the delivery time with someone else due to the 3 hour window. They were supposed to be delivered at 9 pm and the woman assured me she would call my boyfriend to set up a time that works for him. All day, he didn't receive a call. I decided to call them around 10:00 last night and after being on hold for 5 minutes, I was hung up on. Then when someone answered, they hung up on me. After lots of back and forth, I was told I had two orders; one that was delivered, and one that was cancelled. Neither of which were true. I got upset and someone assured me they would be delivered last night, which they were around midnight, but without the balloon and everything I ordered. Absolutely horrendous! I regret ordering anything from Hot Box Cookies and will advise everyone to stay away. I didn't get what I paid for. Save yourself the trouble. read more

In addition to my review, I predict that this business will be closed within the next few months. Thought a hot cookie would be great as an after dinner treat. Entered into the business only to find the gal behind the counter to being lacking in personality and when I asked if the ice cream was soft or hard served her answer was that is was "ice cream" . The store appeared dirty -- tables not clear off and clean and oddly decorated --boxes hanging on wall spelling out messages with missing boxes/letters; holes where frozen yogurt dispenser once hung etc. Regardless, ordered a couple of cookies and was disappointed. Cookies were under baked and COLD. Two other customers dropped in only to find the gal in the kitchen, one guy had to put his head in the former frozen yogurt space to yell "hello". Suggestion: 1. Cookies cannot stand only. Get some great coffee or different milks; promote a cookie with a drink for dunking. 2. Warm up the furnishing, add internet to get people to eat, drink while working online. 3. Display your cookies on pretty platters. 4. Train staff on customer service. 5. A few weeks ago, we ordered delivery from Hot Box, which we have done several times before. That time, though, we received a call informing us that the ice cream flavor we had ordered was unavailable, and we chose a different one over the phone. Earlier this week, we ordered again, also getting the same ice cream. We received another call from them, but missed it. Apparently they were still out of the ice cream, because the driver arrived at our apartment with a selection of other ice cream flavors and extra cookies, and told us they no longer carry that flavor of ice cream. My boyfriend really likes the specific ice cream that he ordered, and didn't want something else. I'm annoyed that we have now paid twice for ice cream flavors that we didn't order, and that they are advertising something they don't sell, especially considering that their ice cream is quite expensive. This would be a one star review if they hadn't been so polite and given us extra cookies (and the cookies are good). read more

I have been a fan of Hot Box Cookies for years; especially when they were located on Mass Street. So much so, that I have accepted the wait time for a delivery, being an hour long. Today not only was my order late, it was also delivered by a very frustrated and angry Hot Box Cookie worker who understandably asked where he was supposed to park. It's a common question and I kindly explained to him where he is allowed to park; however, he went into further detail (in a frustrated manor) stating that the police hate him due to his skin color and that he isn't allowed to make mistakes (i.e. parking in a no parking area.) While I completely understand his confusion on the parking situation, I found it completely unprofessional to take his anger out at me; a simple customer who wanted some cookies. Voicing your opinion is great and I encourage all people to do so; but doing it at work on a delivery to an innocent customer isn't the time or place. I hope in the future if he (or any employee) has this strong of an opinion about something. that they decide they don't need to deliver to that location, maybe then that would avoid another innocent cookie lover from getting yelled at. read more

The only good thing about hot box cookies is that they deliver and they're open late. Beyond that, they're honestly just your average cookie. And they're quite over priced for the size, considering you can get a dozen cookies at the store for 3.99. But like I said, you're paying for the novelty of having it delivered late at night. read more

Last week I ordered cookies that showed up nearly four hours late. A manager called me to apologize, which was nice, and offered me a dozen free cookies the next time I ordered. He told me I'd still have to pay the delivery fee, which was annoying but acceptable, but he did not mention a catch. He told me I'd need to call in my order and not order online. Tonight, I called to order my free dozen cookies and the same manager told me that I needed to meet the minimum delivery amount in dollars before my free dozen would kick in. This was the catch: This is not what he told me last week. So I ordered 10 cookies to meet the minimum delivery amount and was told the extra dozen would be added to my order. When my order arrived after two hours, only the 10 cookies arrived without the free dozen. This is probably the sixth or seventh time Hot Box has screwed up an order or has brought an order extremely late. I can forgive the occasional screw up, but I cannot forgive bad customer service. read more

Bummed that the second experience wasn't as good. Ordered online from out of state for my brother, 2 1/2 hours later no cookies. I called and after 7 minutes of being put on hold was told they didn't deliver them because they didn't have his number to confirm he was home---why didn't they call me? So they said we will get a driver out now, THEN they delivered COLD box cookies to my brother, not HOT...guess I world have been better ordering a cookie pizza from Dominos.
