Based on reviews here and TikTok videos, we brought lawn chairs and arrived in line at 7am on a Friday, and that is what I'd recommend doing! We got six flavors to try and here's our ratings (refer to photo). Pandan Coconut - 10/10, our fav by a long shot!!!! Bavarian - 6.5/10, needed a bit more flavor but we loved the creaminess. Strawberry Rhubarb - 6/10 (I liked it more than my partner but he's not a big strawberry fan, worth trying for sure!!). Everything Donut - 7/10, a little in the salty side but fun to try for sure!! Classic Cinnamon - 7/10, light, fluffy and airy. Nutella - 4/10, the Nutella was super thick inside this so you have to strategically plan your bites so you're getting and even amount of donut to Nutella ratio, my first bite was like eating a big spoonful of peanut butter, obviously tasty tho Nutella is delish. We would definitely come back!! Getting two coconut next time though! read more

YUM YUM YUM! if you love cream filled donuts then this is your place to be!!! After learning about all the sourdough donut hype, watching viral reels on instagram and seeing those delicious donut photos, I had to try it out and today was the day!!! I arrived at 6.45 am and there were already around 60+ people waiting on a Friday morning .. crazy right.. I heard Saturdays are even worse lol. Finally got to enter the shop at 8.15 am and picked up 6 donuts. I think they rotate flavors often or have one new flavor every week, so the ones I got were Bavarian, Blood orange raspberry, Pandan coconut, Biscoff cream and Hot honey pimento cheese. Honestly after taking a bite from each one, the wait time, the hype, all those viral reels actually made soo much sense haha. The donuts are packed with cream but still feel so light and airy, almost feels like biting into a cloud cake. If I had to pick favorites then it would be the Spicy pimento cheese and the Bavarian. The bakery is open Fridays and Saturdays, Fridays starting at 8 AM and Saturdays from 9 AM and the donuts sell out by 10 am. I also heard the owner mention they might open Thursdays soon!!! Each donut is around $5 plus, and I didn't really mind paying that much because the quality is top notch. I even saw the owners chatting with people in line which was nice, they seemed pretty friendly. Loved the ambience inside the shop too, especially the huge white hanging lanterns and how clean and simple the space felt. Overall, these donuts are a hitttt. If you're planning to go early morning, try to get in line by 6:30 AM or at least by 7 AM. The line is usually always long, but the donuts are truly amazing. I got very lucky on a Friday morning and *only waited for 30 minutes. The time I waited at the OP farmers market, I had to wait for 2 hours. Unfortunately, it's difficult for me to stand for too long. I need to invest in a lawn chair or something, ha. The hype was truly worth it for Slow Rise Donuts!!!!! I knew that the line would be crazy but I did not expect to arrive an hour before opening on a random Friday with the line clear down to the Planet Fitness in the same strip. People had clearly done this before and brought their lawn chairs and games. About 15 minutes before opening, they counted the line and got ready to open. Once they opened, they had their system down and the line moved super fast! Not many people were sitting indoors but it was super cute and cozy in there. And the donuts were to die for - truly the best I've ever had. The cookie butter, blackberry jam and savory donuts were the best things I've ever had. I think it's been at least two years since I first heard word of Slow Rise. The donuts are Instagram perfection - I honestly can't even dream up something more visually appealing to dig into in the donut category. Each time I'd see someone rave about them online I'd think oh maybe this will be the weekend I'll give them a try, but with two little kids and a busy life there just was never time on a Saturday or Sunday to head over to a pop up and wait 1-2 hours for a chance to purchase a donut. When I heard they were opening a brick and mortar in 2026 I perked up, when I heard it was in Overland Park, I was thinking this is my chance! When I heard the lines on the weekend were still often a one-two hour wait I again thought ugh, I'll have to wait a bit longer. Flash forward to today when they've decided to open on Fridays as well as Saturdays. In my mind it would be less busy because... Friday - people are working right? It'll be slower right? Oh you sweet child of summer. As I pulled up around 8am (when they open) the line was long - like maybe a block outside the door long, but you know, I was already here, so I decided when in Rome and got in line. It DID take about an hour from the time I exited my car until I returned with donuts and a coffee in hand. The line moves, and I saw the owner making the rounds asking how many donuts folks were purchasing so they made sure you didn't wait if they were going to run out (this is much appreciated!). When I got to the front of the line they still had all of the seasonal flavors, and I took home key lime, bavarian, and nutella flavored donuts. When you take a bite they are honestly great. These are indeed top tier donuts. They are light, airy, savory, and sweet. The fillings are good and compliment the sourdough well. The flavor of success at trying such a hot commodity helps too as you've EARNED your donut by the time you take a bite! 4/5 stars because I really wish after so many years of hype and now a brick and mortar that they'd consider moving to an online ordering system so that you don't have to actually physically stand in line. I do get the marketing and the hype and respect if that's the end game, but as a customer I don't think I'll return until the lines get more regulated or there is an online ordering option - it's a good donut but for the price ($5 per donut/ $4 plain donut) it's not really worth it for me except for maybe once a year or if I'm getting a treat for out of town guests. If I could plan ahead or order in advance I'd consider this spot for family get togethers and other weekend festivities. read more

Slow Rise just recently opened a brick & mortar in Overland Park and I am thrilled! As someone who used to occasionally travel to Lawrence, KS to grab some doughnuts from the farmer's market, it is so exciting for them to have their own shop! Right now, they are only open on Saturday mornings. They open at 9am but you will want to get there much earlier to hop in line so you can grab some doughnuts. They offer both sweet and savory filled sourdough doughnuts and their offerings change weekly so check out their social media a day or two before to see their menu! If Pandan Coconut or Everything Bagel are on the list, make sure to snag those! Due to demand, they do have a 12 doughnut limit. I've been following them on insta for years but have never felt like getting up and going out to get them until today. I arrived at 9:45ish on a Saturday to say the least. The line was big and it reminded me of my LA days! I've never shied from waiting in line for food. I don't judge the food by how long I have to wait for it. I was prepared to wait. About 15 minutes into my wait someone came down the line and asked everyone how many donuts we were each getting. I thought that was very smart of them. I was also prepared not to get all the ones I had came for but was pleasantly surprised. The guy in front of my took the last savory donut but I did manage to score all the rest of the flavors they had for the day. The location is modern and cute. There was a lot of indoor seating. Overall the donuts were all delicious. They are soft and very tasty. The filling doesn't over power the donut flavor. The sugar is fine and it will get all over your hands and shirt. I happened to hear about slow rise from some friends living in Lawrence and never got the chance to visit the farmers market but when I heard they were opening a store right down the street from me, I knew I would finally be able to go! They have a seasonal menu and use fresh and seasonal ingredients. It's best to check their social media pages to see what their menu offering is; it's usually posted by Thursday. Expect a line. I arrived at 8:30, it was rainy and they don't open until 9, and there was a line all the way down by planet fitness with people having chairs and umbrellas for the wait. Since it's sourdough, once a flavor is gone, it's gone so if you go later, expect a smaller selection or even none at all. I got to try the strawberry matcha and Nutella and will be saving the salted miso caramel for tomorrow but from those two donuts, I'm madly impressed. They're fluffy and coated on the outside with a light dusting of sugar and a little dollop of the filling. Majority of the inside has filling so don't expect just a little in the middle. I was wary about the creamy matcha paired with a jelly-ish strawberry but it worked out. Mine had more matcha than strawberry but nonetheless it was so tasty and I wish I could've gotten more. Plenty of seating inside, options for coffee, and bathrooms! The staff was friendly and kept the line moving, and since it's family owned, you get to see the whole family work together which is super cool! Whatever question you are asking yourself about Slow Rise, the answer is that it is worth it. It's worth it to wake up early. It's worth it to wait in a long line. And it's worth it for the price. I tried Slow Rise for the first time at a pop up in the northland. The flavors rotate, so there's always something new to try. When I made it to the front of the line, the owner was so nice and really took her time to provide great service. You can tell the love and care she puts into her product. The donuts themselves are out of this world. The ones I tried had either creme or jelly filling. The flavors are so balanced against the sourdough, not too sweet. The savory flavor really shocked me in the best way. I was able to slice these in half and keep them in an airtight container for a few days. I am happy that this small business is getting so much attention and building a cult following. However, personally, I felt a little let down by the hype. I've been waiting for over a year to try Slow Rise, and when they finally came to the northland, I was ecstatic! I probably waited 1.5 hours before being given the option to purchase the only flavor they had left: black sesame. Now, don't get me wrong, I LOVE black sesame stuff because I grew up on it. So although I was disappointed that I didn't get to try any of the other flavors, I was still hopeful that the donut would be as good as everyone says. The donut is really fluffy. It seemed to be dusted with something sweet. The filling didn't have enough black sesame flavor if you compare it to something like black sesame tang yuan. I also didn't realize that I'd dislike the pairing of black sesame with a sour flavor-- it's just not what I'm used to. I purchased two to share with a friend, but we ended up just sharing one donut and tossing the other. Overall, I'd recommend that people just wait for their brick and mortar to open in Overland Park in 2026. read more

I'M FAST TO RISE THIS MORNING FOR SLOW RISE @slowrisekc is living up to the hype. Now I've been waiting for the right time to pounce. I had my alarm clock go off at 5am and I chose sleep. But at 7 I looked at my phone and jumped up to go out and get some delicious donuts. Got in line.. and within 20 mins bought some beautiful pillowy amazingness. My hands-down favorites were the pandan coconut and the jalapeño cheddar. I think the jalapeño cheddar would have been even better if it were just a tiny less salty (remember I'm a sodium slut but sometimes I even have a limit lol). Otherwise that was the star in my box this morning. The strawberry balsamic was like the best jelly filled you'll ever have. @slowrisekc y'all should 10000% make a peanut butter and jelly one. That would be out of this world!!! Anyway, I can't wait to crawl out of bed again to get my paws on these bad boys soon! Also to the old man walking past the line pissed that so many people were waiting in line for donuts (or as you said "sUgAr" with a wretched look on your face) sorry we aren't eating salad for breakfast. Another Slow Rise pop-up, another happy me! Today they had my favorite savory, the Pimento Hot Honey. Apple Pie was divine. The pie crust on top was as yummy as it was cute! I haven't even tried the Key Lime, Cherry Balsamic, or Cookies n Cream yet, but I know they will all be 5+ star donuts. Definitely high quality donuts, but if you're not a donut person, this donut isn't going to change your mind. They're almost identical to other trendy donuts like Flour Box in Seattle, and overall not worth the wait or the price. These are also fried in coconut oil, which lends a certain aroma and greasiness to the final product that wasn't super pleasant. That said, it was fun to check out once just to see what the hype was all about. My friends and I got up at 5:30am and waited for two hours at OP Farmer's Market. The donuts are soft and fluffy, and I loved all the flavors (except for original, which was just a plain donut). Overall, not bad but wouldn't go back. Saturday morning we headed to Grand Coffee where Slow Rise donuts popped up at 10am with all of their proceeds are going to Children's Mercy. (So generous!) We arrived about 40 minutes before (9:20am) the pop-up because these are some very high-demand donuts with long wait times. We ended up getting to the counter exactly 1 hour after they opened (11am). Today's flavors were: passionfruit curd, biscoff cookie, cinnamon, pistachio, pandam coconut, everything, dill and classic bavarian. Thankfully, we left with one of each at $5 a pop. These sourdough donuts are sooo light and fluffy, taking 3 days to prepare, and Slow Rise usually comes stocked with ~1,000 of them (selling out about 2-2.5 hours after opening). These are the BEST donuts I have had in the KC area!!!!! The everything was my favorite!! This was my first time going to one of their pop ups. Got in line 1.5 hours before they started selling and it took about 25-30min to get to the front once they started so roughly 2 hours total and the only thing I regret is not getting more donuts! The 2 hours flew by because waiting in line it was even a positive experience. Other customers were so friendly and getting to know each other and had nothing but amazing things to say about this family and how amazing they are. When they arrived and before they started selling they went through the line to get an estimate of how many donuts everyone would be purchasing so they could cutoff the line and prevent people waiting that likely get to the front before they ran out. Today (6/1/24) I drove out to Lawrence, KS from Kansas City (MO side) to try out Slow Rise for the first time. When I saw the turnout at Overland Park Farmers Market last week, there was an outrageous line for these doughnuts where even if you were to start standing in line by the time they opened they would likely have sold out due to the over 150 people already in the queue, and this is not an exaggeration as I counted a few times. With some brisk research I found that when they are at Lawrence the hype is not as intense which is what led me to embark on the trek over to rival KU territory (Mizzou grad here by the way). I arrived at Lawrence Farmers Market at around 6:00 am, and the parking lot was literally empty, but as a first timer I had no idea where the hell to stand in line since Slow Rise does not start to set up until very close to the 7:30 opening time. I was hoping more people would start showing up, but it wasn't until around 6:30 am I saw a random gathering of sorts which I found starting at the Northeast corner of the parking lot. I have included a marking of where the line starts on a map screenshot. At this time I was among the first 15 in line which is pretty reasonable. Checkout is brisk and efficient as they have 3 cashiers going at once. After I picked up my doughnuts at around 7:40 am, the line was at about 50 people. Still a lot of people, but much tamer compared to Overland Park. So even if you arrived at opening time there is still a very good chance to get doughnuts. Since I had congestive heart failure 2 years ago, I am technically not supposed to be even eating doughnuts but having half a donut would still be safe for me. I got the strawberry rhubarb, chocolate mocha, and cinnamon toast crunch. With the sugary coating and flaky texture of the sourdough, it was a very pleasant bite and the strawberry filling was fresh, gushing with flavor. The chocolate mocha filling was rich and had just the right amount of mocha to it. Cinnamon toast crunch was pretty much the cereal but in creamy donut form. The doughnuts are a wholesome homemade quality, almost like a fried donut but in a more sophisticated baked form. The consistency is soft/pillowy and easy to chew, can definitely taste the difference with the days of process it takes. It would poise no difficulty to scarf down a dozen. My initial expectations were high to expect it to feel like it was biting into a cloud, but I could not go that far. Overall I would say Slow Rise meets all the hype as an excellent donut and I can now understand the reason for the long lines. The owners are very friendly and personable at checkout with an extreme dedication to responding to all and any feedback on social media. I'm not sure if I would go through the trouble again to drive to Lawrence, pay the tolls, and drive back to KC, but if you want a less crowded and more attainable experience, going to Lawrence is the way to go compared to Overland Park. If I lived in Lawrence I'd eat these every day for sure. I'll probably drive to Lawrence again actually. read more

Went to their pop ups in KC for the first time ever. Heard through social medias that their sour dough donuts are amazing. We didn't know how popular they have gotten since last year when they just started out. For these pop ups, it's best to be there A LOT earlier than you anticipated. BC the lines are long. I would say, we waited like two hours and we were lucky to still have some donuts left to buy and try. They are $5 a piece. This was our first time, it was worth the wait and cost. You can tell the craftsmanship of each donuts are filled by hand and love. The owners were so sweet and patience. We got to tried their Pandan Coconut, Biscoff Cookie, Passionfruit Curd, Dill (Savory) and Pistachio. All were so good. Who knew sourdough could be so light and fluffy. One of the owners, Jessica, was so sweet and made sure our order was perfect for our events! I tried multiple flavors and had a hard time picking which one I liked the best. I was really sorry to see Brandie left such a negative review about today's free donut. I'm always happy to get a free donut, but I'm even happier when the donut is light, fluffy, tender, and FULL of delicious jelly. I had a blackberry jelly donut today and it was beyond what I was hoping for. The hint of lime and the fresh blackberry were a perfect complement to the sweet, tender, sugary dough. Not too sugary.
