This place is pure nostalgia. It's been a long minute since I had a corndog here. I was at the mall recently and decided to get lunch at the food court. Hot Dog on a Stick instantly caught my eye after all these years. The classic made-to-order corndogs and the hand-stomped lemonade are hard to resist. I ordered the 2-for-$7.99 corndog deal and a cherry lemonade. I picked one beef and one original turkey corndog. The first bite brought back memories. The cornmeal coating was fried perfectly and hot with a slight crisp. My favorite was the beef corndog, but the turkey is enjoyable as well. The lemonade has a variety to choose from. The cherry lemonade was refreshing and sweet. I noticed the seasonal, limited-time flavor was Dragonfruit, which I hope to try soon. The staff was kind and provided quick service. Haven't been to one of these in years but had some time to kill while waiting for an iPhone repair in mall. For what it is and it's location being in a loud food court, I can't complain. Hot dog and cheese stick were tasty and went great with the lemonade. Simple options of mustard or ketchup are all you need to enjoy the dogs. Prices are a little high but that's everywhere really. The workers were overall good. One of the girls was very considerate and exemplified great customer service when cashier got my drink wrong. I'm sorry I didn't catch her name. She wasn't the one cleaning the counters though. The fries were way over-salted (we had to shake/wipe off the excess but didn't work too well) and the lemonade contained a little stick/stem. It also seemed like it was all a group of younger kids (teens to early twenties) working at this location. It would have been ok but not sure if the over salted fries etc would have been prevented if management was around? It looked crowded back there too. Regardless I love seeing the younger generation working. I think they did well overall and improvements can always be made especially with good work ethics that I think they mostly had. I have place two, large catering orders here in the past two months. Both have been for large classes at my sons' school. Monica and her team have gone above and beyond to be sure that my experience is smooth, my order is correct and that the kids have a fun meal! I placed my orders online, but Monica, the manager, personally called to ensure that my order was correct and offered to come in early to help prepare my order on time. When I picked up both orders, they have been easily packaged with all the extras -- ketchup, cups, straws and even fun hats for the kids! I placed a huge order of corn dogs, and cheese on a stick and was left disappointed. I believe the order was just over $100. What I got for that was really greasy items on a stick. They stacked the items on top of each other in a bag with napkins separating each level. The napkins were all soaked in grease which was not very appetizing and because of the amount of grease and how they were stacked, it was a chore to peel the napkins off each item. Also, the cheese on a stick was about half the size of what it used to be. Mostly the batter, not much cheese. I have always been a big fan of Hot Dog on a Stick. As you get older things get smaller. Back in the day a cheese on a stick was one of the best things ever. We had a craving so we gave in and drove out to Cerritos mall. Fast forward 20 years and it's like where's the stick? I aware there has been a size reduction because these things are teeny weanie. The only increase has been it's price. I absolutely love hot dog on a stick, this is one of my favorite mall food stands. Unfortunately because most of them are located inside of the mall they are going away faster than I wish. The hotdog on a stick in Santa Ana mall closed up, a hotdog on a stick in Westminster mall closed up and there are no more hotdog on a stick's anywhere in orange county. Even the hotdog on a stick in Palm Springs is now gone. It's very sad but if hotdog on a stick as a company does not rewrite their business plan and come up with another option there will be no more hotdog on a stick left. I wish they were a franchise, if so I would buy one. They used to be one right down the street from where I live in Newport Beach and it's been gone for years. I love their cheese sticks!!! The cheese sticks are the best item on the menu - it is simple and the cheese is always melted perfectly. They have the original, turkey, and veggie hot dogs on a stick which are good, but nothing special about it. The cheese sticks are better option as it has many flavors: American, Pepper Jack, and Mozzarella. The American cheese is the best it is salty and the flavor is strong. The batter goes perfectly with their flavors and they are always fluffy and soft. All the items are made to order which is great as they come out piping hot and you know they are freshly made. Every time I visit they always make it right when I order and I have never gotten food that has been sitting under a heat lamp. As for the drinks the fresh squeezed lemonade are still the best. These can be a bit sour and I suggest ordering the strawberry lemonade where it is half sweet and half sour. The wait times can be long on weekends as all items takes a little longer to cook. Expect the wait times to be around 10 plus minutes at lunch hours and they call your order by number, not by name. read more

When I went on a Sunday afternoon, the three workers there were chatting and making the corndogs really slowly as people (including myself) were anxiously waiting for their food. But throughout the years it has franchised in almost every mall in California. This particular Hot Dog on a Stick is located in the Los Cerritos Center in the food court. I enjoy this place mainly because it reminds me of a fun carnival food booth. Whenever I bite into a melted pepper jack cheese on a stick I either feel that I am at a state fair or at a carnival. I usually get the cheese on a stick (pepper jack cheese) and a large lemonade. I found out that the lemonade is made fresh at least every 2 hours so that explains the clean freshness taste of lemon compared to everywhere else. The lemonade is also available in original flavor, cherry, lime and sometimes they have blue raspberry. The menu selections include hot dogs, American and pepper jack cheese on a stick, veggie dogs on a stick, French fries, and hot dogs on buns. Technically according to the corporate website, Hot Dog on a Stick uses only turkey in their signature hot dogs on a stick, while their hot dogs served on buns are made from 100% beef. Quick Note: Last month in February of 2014, Hot Dog On a Stick Enterprises filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy after citing high lease costs. In their filing, Hot Dog on a Stick stated that their total debt was between $1 and $10 million. In addition, the company's assets were estimated at $10 to $50 million.
