I am on the Big Island for my birthday and since I had time to kill because of rain, ew, and waiting on other folks to arrive, I decided to get my nails done. A lot of the nail salons seemed to want an appointment and weren't really responding to voicemails or messages so I am very glad Hot Nails accepted walk ins. I only had to wait about 10-15 minutes before I was in a chair with my feet soaking. Which on a Saturday morning, elsewhere would be a lot longer wait. I had gel on my nails so we discussed removing the gel to put on regular polish versus removing and reapplying gel. I decided to get gel nails again because it's my birthday week and it would stink to have a pedicure not last! My pedicurist was friendly enough but we did not talk much. She was efficient and asked me questions about how I wanted my nails cut, filed and shaped. I couldn't make up my mind about what color I wanted and she accommodated my request for two different colors. She rubbed some lotion and oil in my legs and I was out the door. I think I could have been better sold or even upsold if there were some type of menu options for different types of pedicures. I was disappointed that it wasn't point out that I was in a massage chair or where the remote was located. All in all, a solid pedicure in a nice clean nail salon. Hot nails is a clean salon with friendly nail technicians. I feel taken care of here. They have been consistent each time I've gone. I opt for a gel pedicure; the paint does not chip which is perfect if you are cruising on the beach. I think living in Hawai'i is a luxury and getting a pedicure is a luxury. We all know it's expensive here. With that being said, I think the prices reflect the living experience. You should expect to drop some money on such a treat and always tip. If you can't afford a service +15% tip then do it yourself. I am grateful for this nail salon because I've been to a different salon and had a terrible experience. As a nail tech and nail educator with 30 years under my belt, when I broke a nail I was worried what I would find for nail shops not knowing this area. I read a few reviews and felt comfortable going here. I WAS WRONG!!! Even my boyfriend said when I had finished that he was shocked that I even sat down with how filthy the place was when we walked In. I don't know the girls name that did my nail as she never really spoke to me unless I asked a question. She used all dirty and unsanitized implements on me!!! This behavior would never be allowed or tolerated in my salon. I am disgusted by the practices in this salon. Great nail salon with very friendly nail technicians. Called day of and was able to get a nail appointment 45 minutes later. They gently removed the previous gel I had on my nails and applied a nail strengthener since my nails were so thin. So happy with the nail shape and beautiful gel polish application. Only have a few more days on the island but my nails were in need of being redone and this salon was perfect. Will be adding it to my favorites list so when we vacation again next year I can revisit. read more

I sent my best friend in for a pedicure while she was staying with me. They were incredibly rude. Barked orders as soon as she walked in and never made eye contact with her. She's white and they were all Hawaiians so possibly that's why?? She got the basic manicure and it was awful. Didn't even get her nails trimmed properly. I went a couple months ago to get a full set with my daughter. The young girl with lots of tattoos that did my full set was AMAAAAAAAAZING (I wish I got her name). Even though the place became busier and busier, she took her time and made sure my nails came out completely flawless, which they totally did. I left feeling SO impressed and they were made to last. They said that the fake nails they used, services and the white tip was an extra $15 and $20. What the heck is the $85 for then? They also did not tell me this until they finished my nails. So I called and asked to see if they could fix my nails since 3 broke. Now mind you, I'm not from Kona, and forgot to fix my nails back home. Well they were open and willing to take me, even if they are working late. The place was close to my hotel, walking distance from King Kam hotel. Well I waited approx 30 mins, but they were busy and I did come last minute and willing to wait. Everyone was friendly! Debbie (worker there) was talking to everyone even when she was working on her customer. Place has good parking, easy to find, clean, and very up to date products. I loved their pedi chair. Their customer service was superb. They refused to turn anyone away! From a person from Honolulu, that is hard to find. So I had broken (in the nail bed) 3 nails that ended up bleeding after I had gotten off the plane. It was painful. I had a conference so I couldn't just leave. They took me in. As I got there, they said Hi and asked me if I was the one that just called and said yes. She told me to wait, simportant. I had no place to be at that moment. Two customers came in and they told them to come back and that they will take them! I asked Debbie, "don't you close at 7?!" And she said, yes, but I don't mind (as she smiled). Finally my turn. She filled my gelish nails with silver glitter, and made it super pretty! I love this place and understand why all the locals love them! I really am surprised as to how well these people treat their customers. Oh, they are kinda more than I would have paid, but I appreciate and don't mind. We didn't get a chance to get a pedicure before heading to The Big Island for our vacation. We figured we could find a place while there. My girlfriend searched and searched, and she finally found this spot. The staff themselves were pretty friendly. The woman who did my pedicure didn't try to have a conversation with me while I was getting my pedicure, and that's totally fine with me because I'm not big on that anyway. For what we pay at our normal nail spot in Texas, we definitely didn't get the experience I would have expected at this place in Hawaii. It was a quick manicure, and it almost seemed like the woman was ready to just get it done as quickly as she could. No bells and whistles, just painting my toes and time to go. Not worth what we paid. About 6 hours after we left, the paint on one of my big toes smudged. Yes, smudged almost as if it had still been wet. This was very odd. I didn't go get it fixed since the rest of our vacation took place on the Hilo side. I'm sure they would have fixed it, but honestly it didn't feel worth it. Just wait to get back to Texas to get my feet taken care of the right way. If you need a spot to get your nails done while on vacation in the area, your options are very limited. This might be your best bet, but I'm sure it's hit or miss. Definitely not the experience I was expecting... at all. read more

As a local I've been trying almost every affordable nail place I could find and so far this is the best place I've been to that doesn't have a long wait, gave me exactly what I wanted, wasn't extremely overpriced and has excellent customer service. I was very wary about getting my nails this length and especially this color. It was completely out of my comfort zone, but my nail tech (unfortunately I didn't get her name) made me feel very confident and happy with my choice. With all these five star reviews of Hot Nails, I totally had something different in mind of what I was going to experience. I popped in and was really happy that they could seat me right away for a pedicure. The gentleman that was doing my nails was so unpleasant, uninterested, and seemed rather annoyed with me (or his job? Couldn't quite tell). He was condescending, responding to every question as if I am stupid and hurt me with his "massage". It was clear he was trying to finish the pedicure as soon as possible. I think the other female working must have noticed how rude he was being that she came over several times to help out and answer my questions. The $35 pedicure was overpriced for what the service was / is. I still tipped 20% and the guy didn't even say thank you or even give me any eye contact once he finished. The salon was very nice and Vivian catered to me and understood exactly what I wanted. I love my nails and she did a great job! The only downside was that it did take about two hours for the fill, which was longer than I'm usually in there for and the price was a little higher than I usually pay (67 + tips). I generally don't do "girly" things, but I love getting my hands and toes done (treat yo self) and I'm pretty particular about the whole process. My gel nails are always done perfectly, and whenever I've broken a nail they cover it up with an acrylic seamlessly. It never looks fake. I've been to this establishment about 4 or 5 times now, and I've been pleased every single time. The staff is welcoming and they know what they're doing.
