    The Meatball Grinder
    Carl S.

Meet my new friend Grinder, Meatball Grinder that is! So, yesterday I was wondering what I might do for dinner, and the word Pizza popped into my mind. And then the more I thought on it a sandwich sounded better. But what kind of sandwich? There's a place up on North Oak called The Hot Rocks Pizza Kitchen, and I hade been there right after it opened. During that trip I had noticed several interesting sandwiches, so I thought that it would be a good time to return. So off I go and when I get there I marched right up to the bar and ordered a frosty glass of iced brown barley soup and a menu. After some serious study I decided on a The Meatball Grinder. I placed the order and sat back and relaxed, sipping on a delicious cold beer. And in just a short time they brought me out a basket full of heaven! They take a lovely roll of bread, split it down the middle, load that with four monster meatballs, add some pepperoni, Italian sausage, onions, mushrooms, and top it with red sauce a pizza cheese, and then toasted the whole kit and caboodle! When you bite into this beast you are biting into a meat lovers paradise! Tender and juicy meatballs with lots of flavors from the sauce, cheese, and the crunch of the bread puts this grinder over the top! Well Done Hot Rocks Pizza Kitchen Well Done Indeed!

Good pizza and great salad. Hubby really enjoyed the pizza with lots of meat and nice thin crust. The Greek salad has wonderful homemade vinaigrette dressing, and was very fresh and tasty. I got the feta on the side since I wanted to limit how much dairy I was eating and that made it easy. I'd get that salad again any day!

Hot Rocks, wow! This was a pleasant surprise as I did not plan on eating here until some other plans fell through. We showed up around 2pm so it wasn't too busy. Perusing the menu we opted for a Carnivore. It was fantastic with plentiful toppings! All the ingredients tasted fresh and we really felt we got our moneys worth! If you are in the area you should definitely check them out!

First, they are open on Sunday. Yelp says closed. I came with my 6 year old Grandbaby girl. We came to eat pizza but an 8" cheese was $11 and there isn't any pizza on the kids menu. I instead had a Pesto Turkey Bacon sandwich and it was average at best. They brought my granddaughter's Kid's Menu Penne Alfredo in a extremely hot bowl. Like Mexican restaurant wearing oven mitt hot!!! I didn't like that much. Why would you give a 6 year old a hot bowl to burn herself on? Server did great with what he was given though. Grand total with tip for 1 adult sandwich w/ a coke and one kids meal....$42.06!!! We could of gone to a sandwich shoppe for $20.00 and got the same meal.

8 inch cheese pizza and a order of nachos.

Really wanted to give it 3 stars because of my first experience. (8 days ago) They had good customer service, the person answering the phone was knowledgeable of the menu & surprisingly timely, and the online information was accurate. This afternoon at about 2 o'clock I had ordered a personal cheese pizza ( an 8' ) and an order of nachos over the phone. When I arrived at the restaurant I wanted to add six cans of pop to my order but unfortunately the register system forced two separate transactions. I'm displeased with the look of the cheese pizza. -from the person who was going to eat it "where is the cheese and it does not look good." The first time I had ordered jalapeños or banana peppers, I did not mind the seeds left in the slices I figured simple mistake. Unfortunately by the order of nachos I think it's just how they do it.

Supreme pizza was outstanding. I'll be back!
    K J.

Okay I really like nachos. I mean I really really really like nachos. It's a good group. These are in another level! Love the peperoncini peppers are just awesome. Just love it. The supreme pizza was just delicious. I'd eat it again. But next time I wanna try their taco pizza.

What really stood out right away was the service. The lady taking our orders was incredibly nice and personable, and she actually took the time to walk us through the menu to make sure we got exactly what we wanted. I went with the #5, which is their version of a Sicilian Muffuletta. It was phenomenal. It's stacked with mortadella, salami, provolone, ham, and Swiss cheese, topped perfectly with a red wine vinaigrette chopped olive salad, all sitting on a beautifully toasted seeded loaf. One of my friends ordered the #20 Reuben, and it was a masterpiece. We're talking melt-in-your-mouth Wagyu corned beef, legit sauerkraut from Brooklyn, house-made Russian dressing, and melty Swiss, all piled high between two buttery, toasted slices of marble rye bread. Naturally, I also grabbed a couple of their homemade chocolate chip cookies, and we got a raspberry and blueberry tiramisu that was absolutely terrific. You just can't leave a place like this without hitting the dessert menu! I consider myself very lucky to have experienced this spot. Honestly, if I lived in the area, I'd probably gain 50 lbs--and it would be worth every single ounce!

Our new favorite BBQ!…read more I noticed Off The Hook as we were driving home one day from an errand on North Oak Trafficway. The exterior looked inviting and the parking lot seemed adequately busy, so I noted to my husband that we would have to check it out soon. Several days later we brought our infant and a friend and were warmly greeted by staff who explained the ordering process and instantly made us feel welcomed. We didn't have to wait for seating but it's was nice to see a local business like this pretty busy with patrons. We had a hard time figuring out what we wanted (it honestly all looked good) but decided on brisket nachos, a pulled pork loaded potato and burnt ends with fries and baked beans. When I say everything we ate was phenomenal I mean it rivaled a lot of the major local spots that people flock to in KC for BBQ. I also loved the sauces and did feel the regular/spicy had enough of a variation to appeal to differing tastebuds (I'm a spicy fan and while it wasn't the hottest I've had it had some bite.) Despite some other reviews on here we felt the price was a great value - especially on the nachos and potato - for the amount of BBQ/food. The Mac and cheese we ordered for our daughter was also some of the best we've had out of the house and as a Texan I loved the flavor of the queso on the nachos. We have since returned many times and the service and food have been consistently good. We have brought friends and family each time who similarly rave about the food and good people serving it - and many have returned on their own without us. We also recently took the chance to try their (weekday morning) breakfast burritos after salivating over them on the menu...WOW is all I can say. Worth every penny - huge and had tons of flavor. My dad is quite the foodie and could not stop raving about them. I hope this business continues to have lots of success/growth and that they continue serving up good food here in the northland (and beyond, if they please.) Such a wonderful local spot!

The building is pretty good sized, they basically have two rooms, one is just seating. Hawaiian vibes. Service is always friendly. I had a brief wait but my food was super fresh so I didn't mind. On my most recent visit I tried the monthly special, which was the Shaka surf and turf wrap. It was large and I had enough for two meals. I liked the tempura shrimp and the noodles. The steak had good flavor. I really like the originality of the monthly specials and tend to gravitate towards those over the regular menu but everything I've tried has been good.
