We decided on two appetizers, the Irish Nachos were amazing. Think loaded potatoes, cheese, bacon, sour cream... literally amazing. The shrimp appetizer was also very good, it was the perfect amount of sweet and spicy. As for our main courses I got a French Dip and my husband ordered the filet mignon. I met two of my friends for drinks and dinner a couple nights ago, and we had a great experience! We arrived around 545pm, and while it was already busy, we only had to wait ~40 minutes for a table. The bar was busy but they had a long standing only table where we were able to order a drink with a server which was awesome! The service in the bar and at dinner was fast and friendly. Once we were seated, we ordered the bruschetta appetizer and it was amazing! I highly recommend! For dinner, one of my friends and I both ordered off the restaurant week menu. I had the steak and mashed potatoes and she had the scallops, mashed potatoes, and asparagus. My other friend ordered the chicken parm. I had Grandma's chicken that was a grilled chicken breast with smoked Gouda sauce , green beans and cheesy jalapeños grits. Talk about yummy comfort food. Nick and Jake's is a convenient pick in Parkville. I've ordered dinner to go a few times, and dined in person for the first time this week. The parking lot was full and it was tough finding a spot. That made me worry about having to wait for a table, but there was no need to worry as my family of four were seated right away. I always order the Salmon BLT. We went in for happy hour around 4:30. Immediately seated, greeted and got drinks. Our waitress, Tina, was incredible! She gave recommendations, let us take our time and was all around a sweet girl. We got 4 appetizers for happy hour. Mozzarella sticks, Chicken Quesadilla, Buffalo Wings and Chile Con Queso with Chorizo. Let me tell you, the food was cheap and the portions were HUGE! We filled up on those happy hour apps and even have food leftover for lunch tomorrow. We also got the banana cream cheesecake. It was so rich and sweet. Came in for lunch and were seated right away. Sports bar type of restaurant with nice vibes. The bar area has TVs all over but there's another section that's a bit quieter. It's not loud at all, but I'm sure this place is very busy and loud during the Chiefs season. I ordered a Reuben sandwich and chose coleslaw as a side. The Reuben was probably one of the best I've ever had very moist and tender and flavorful, and the coleslaw was excellent. No complaints here. I am in charge for a group of ladies who do a monthly luncheon. I picked Nick and Jake's because I have previously dined there and enjoyed the food very much. The manager was great to work with for this large group and actually called the morning of the luncheon to make sure that we were all still coming. We asked to be moved to the dining room side where it was a little more quiet. They immediately brought out a snack plate of grapes and crackers for my friend's young daughter. I thought that was a great idea! Eric was our waiter. He was GREAT! We ordered the shrimp macaroni and cheese and the potstickers as an appetizer. They were both very good! He recommended the grilled salmon dinner for me and it was a huge hit! I ate every bite! My daughter had the salmon BLT; and my friend split a fried chicken salad with her daughter because she said the salads are HUGE! Sure enough, even though they had split it, neither one of them could finish their half of their salad. My daughter was also unable to eat half of her sandwich and fries. We were able to finish the mac and cheese. I had a delicious glass of Sauvignon Blanc and my daughter had a strawberry Basil lemonade. One of our favorite restaurants to go that's never missed a beat when it comes to food and service. Helps that it's right down the street from our house. They do take reservations for larger parties, which is good, because this place is always busy, especially on the weekends. Our favorites include the pot pie, meatloaf, mozzarella sticks, and Irish nachos, honestly though, I've enjoyed many of the specialty menu items that rotate throughout the week and consistently been pleased with the outcome. I come here fairly frequently and I appreciate as a general rule the scratch kitchen and menu variety. My last visit was super disappointing grabbing lunch with my kiddo and we had a difficult time getting service. It seemed as if no one was assigned to our table or section so we just waited oddly with no greeting. The kicker for me was there seemed to be about four girls working the hostess station and again from afar with generally no care in the world and not really seeming super service oriented. I say that because when approached and I asked if we had a server assigned or they could check, the hostess was snobbish and indifferent. End of day, we finally got our food and the quality was good as we expected. The wait was long and the overall service, the attitude I would say, made it a bummer. No apologies ever. I suggest .. Egos in check my friends ... What sucked for me was this was a big teaching outing we set up for my middle school kid. She was paying for lunch with "her money" and we were discussing all things hospitality, quality, food service, ordering, etiquette, principles of waiting tables, kitchen impact and tipping. I've ordered to go through Nick and Jakes a few times and have always enjoyed my experience. But this location is doing things right! Walked in with my boyfriend and we were quickly seated. Our waiter came and greeted us, and was very friendly and did a wonderful job accommodating us with making sure our drinks were refilled and our food was delicious. Which it was! I ordered the Buffalo Wings, and when they came out they were nice and hot. The wings had a great flavor and the sauce complimented them nicely. We went in at about 6:00 last night and they were quite busy, but we found one of the high tops in the bar area available so we thought ourselves lucky and sat down. Mind you, there was no sign on the table that it was not open seating and many times before, these high tops in the bar area have been open/self-seating. After about five minutes, one of the waitresses, (I don't know her name but she was one of the younger servers), approached us and said, "Unfortunately, since it's so busy, this table is being seating by our hostess, so you can't sit here. You need to move". Then she walked off without hesitation. Her demeanor and attitude toward us was beyond disrespectful. This is not the first time that employees in the bar area have had a negative attitude, (especially one of the female bartenders that I leave nameless). This was the last straw. We will never go back. There's nothing that special about this place that we need to tolerate such unprofessional and disrespectful behavior. There are better choices within a five minute drive that welcome our business. read more
