My son was having a rough day, so he sat down on the curb to cool off while we waited for our hot dog. The man at the grill noticed and asked for his help. My son immediately jumped up, handed me his bag, and told me he needed to help with the stand. And just like that, his whole mood changed - he had a purpose, he got to be part of something. With that one simple act of kindness, this man completely turned my son's day around and gave me a new parenting lesson in the process. In that moment, my kid didn't need a pep talk; he needed a chance to contribute and feel needed. This man saw that and chose to engage and I am so grateful he did.
