It's nice to see that a cool store like Hot Topic is still open in malls. I get the feeling, after reading low score reviews, that there are quite a few individuals that don't understand corporate policy. Bear in mind that associates aren't "bugging" you because they want to, they are required to do so. Leaving a bad review because you are a princess, lowers the score for no real reason. These stores have unique merchandise that you can't get elsewhere. That counts for something. The company hires individuals that, more than likely would not be employed in retail. That counts for something. The fact that you can visit three different ones located in such a way that you don't have to drive far from where you are, counts for something. AND, even though many items seem to be a bit pricey, you can always shop an extensive variety of discount items every single day. I'm giving Five stars because I, personally, have never had a bad experience of any kind in any Hot Topic I have been in. And THAT counts for something. read more

Please stop having every single one of your employees ask if a customer needs help every five seconds or every time a customer moves from one section to the next. The store is the size of a large walk in closet I don't need assistance every step of the way in fact most people ask when they need help. Could not get out of there fast enough it was beyond annoying. read more

It's Hot Topic. It's a retail store. Please expect a decent to long wait, the clothes to be stacked high and all the other things. The place is hard to move around with the cash register being an island, but at least it's creative. There are great finds and steals here, one of my favorite places to hop around at. I may be a bit old for Hot Topic, but I do like this place. Customer service is only average, I don't find it mind blowing or ludicrous. I can't comment on it, at all. Prices were great though, especially for a place with a wide spread of jangles and jinkets and other jinglers. A decent store, I am coming again here. read more

Sunday afternoon I received some of the worst service I've had in a retail establishment in years from this shop. Firstly, I was buying a Drake tank top. I like Drake, ok? That's my business, right? Well, as Hot Topic tends to have things hanging up high on racks, I had to get the store clerk to come get it down for me. I did not catch his name, but he was wearing a red track suit and it was about 4 pm. He was about an 18 year old little smart @ss! He immediately started ripping on Drake and how much he sucks, etc, and how he (the clerk) only likes "real hip hop." I was getting irritated, because after all, it's my purchase, obviously I like it, so why on earth would you think it's appropriate to belittle it? He even pulled up pictures of Drake on his cell phone and showed them to me and was talking about how stupid he looked, etc! I mentioned that I also enjoy "real hip hop," such as the Pharcyde, De La Soul, a Tribe Called quest, etc. I said "You know, hip hop from BEFORE YOU WERE BORN" to the clerk, because I was getting annoyed. But he would not stop talking bad about Drake, and about how stupid the shirt I was buying was. Uh... ok. This doesn't seem like a very good sales tactic to me, but whatever. I actually let the sales person know I was irritated by asking if he worked on commission. When he said no I said "that's a good thing." He still didn't seem to get it. My point is, I'm not your peer. Yes, I'm shopping at Hot Topic, (LOL) but I'm 33 years old. I'm an adult. I can make my own purchases and I can do so without the commentary. I'm not your buddy, I'm your customer. So let's knock of the s#%t talking, shall we? Then came the really infuriating problem. My husband went to pay for our purchases, (the Drake top and several other t-shirts) and his credit card was declined, twice. For no reason whatsoever. there was plenty of money in the account. So we said ok, and left without the items we were going to buy, and later contacted the bank. Well guess what! The transaction did indeed go through, TWICE. So now it's up to the bank to get it reversed, because I contacted the manager at Hot Topic today and he was little to no help (though he at least was friendly) and said he'd have to call the sales auditing department and investigate. I have yet to hear back from him. The bank, meanwhile has reversed the charges, thank goodness. Anyway we will not be returning to this location, and I plan to write a letter to the manager to let him know how rude, unpleasant, and unprofessional his employee was. Not to mention the credit card issue, which is just plain bizarre and irritating. AVOID THIS STORE. read more

Yep, I have that HT+1 membership. WHAT OF IT? Chris Z. isn't the only one who can hang with the so-trendy-it's-not-trendy kids, you know. I like (un)ironic Bieber t-shirts and (un)ironic faux Doc Martens to wear to the Loop, too! I also dig entire walls of Hello Kitty merch and rows upon rows of teen makeup that's high in lead! I do come here a lot, though. I buy hair bows out the wazoo (Not *literally* out of my personal wazzo, because, ew, gross.), and Hot Topic often has buy-one-get-one-half-off sales on accessories like they did last night. They favor the clip bows more than the pin bows more than Claire's does, so they earn big points for that. Hot Topic's knee socks are great, too - cushiony and surprisingly high quality, despite coming only in garish neon patterns. I also stock up on band shirts when HT has sales. Most of my band tees in my closet have been bought at a million shows that said bands performed, which makes me better than the 16-year-olds behind the HT counter. Sometimes, though, I need to have that Nirvana reissue because my mom tossed my original out during a cleaning frenzy in 1994. No, I still have not forgiven her. The rest of Hot Topic's wardrobe choices for ladies is hit or miss. I'm in love with green plaid and the shapes of their dresses, but the quality isn't always there or the hemlines are too short. Also, let's talk about the price paid for the quality received - disconnect there! Those dresses are NOT worth $60, even if they sort of look like Betsy Johnson's awesome closet from 25 years ago. Still not worth $60! Beyond that, flats are ok, boots aren't great. Skirts are ok, pants aren't. Don't bother with jewelry, makeup or tights, but do grab yourself some fingerless gloves and leg warmers. Also, please wear that Invader Zim slap bracelet the next time you see me. Oh yeah, there's boy stuff here too. *shrug* Note: After you leave Hot Topic, 1) you will smell like plastic and will have to walk outside to air out, and 2) you will seek shelter in Apple or Nordstrom to let your eyes readjust to colors that aren't hot pink or lime green. read more

I've been caught. As pointed out in a message from Allison B. I've checked into two different Hot Topics in a little over a week. Am I embarrassed? No. Where else would I get a beanie hat in the shape of a shark head, or a rhinestone bracelet that says "BIG PIMPIN". I really haven't found anywhere else that has nearly the selection of adult sized Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle gear. Aw, snap! I forgot to get a new Hello Kitty belt buckle. There are three of these stores in STL. I've been to the West County Mall and Galleria locations. I prefer the WestCo store slightly due to a better selection. But most of the stuff is the same. Yes, it's trendy. But I usually check out most Hot Topic stores because I refuse to acknowledge the fact that there are some things I just shouldn't wear. That being said, during my most recent trip to St. Louis I just had to stop in to this Hot Topic and I am soooo happy I did! Talk about a BARGAIN, I found myself a beautiful coat, yes a wool pea coat marked down from $60 to $9.99. WHAT??? YES I DID! No cartoon characters on it, no neon in it, just a beautiful black coat - in my size! Also, no crowds trampling me trying to get to the clearance racks! Yet another reason to love St. Louis....and Hot Topic! read more

I really dislike how all Hot Topics look like a hot mess. Clothing on the floor, random stuff scattered everywhere and I rarely get help by an employee when I need it. The only reason I still occasionally shop at this store is their assortment of humorous t-shirts. They do offer a 10% military discount, but even that couldn't make me a regular. I miss the old school Hot Topic that offered specialty wear like Renaissance dresses, corsets and Wicca related items. Unfortunately, it has become very scene in the past few years. read more
