Waited since 1am and lined up with everyone else for the exclusive naruto pop. They opened the other doors to the public before opening the door with the organized line. They let the people who haven't been waiting stay in front of us. They suck at organizing and are vague where to line up at. It caused a verbal altercation with people who have been camping out since the previous day. Practically everyone who was waiting since the previous day didn't get a pop because they didn't fix the line. Which sucks because half of them were scalping them. We just wanted one pop cause our support for the anime. We had security guards tell us we're in the right line. It was a waste of time. I spend a lot of money at Hot Topic. My daughter could spend all day in there and spend all of my money. Right around a month ago, we bought her backpack at Hot Topic. Within the first two weeks it started to fall apart. We purchased it at the Santa Monica location. Last week when buying a few birthday gifts for my daughter, I was at that location and told the guy there that we had purchased a backpack a couple of weeks earlier and it was coming apart at the seams on the bottom, and one of the straps was coming off. I described the style, and he told me no problem, bring it in and he would exchange it. I thought if he would exchange it, that it must be company policy. We couldn't get back to that store so today, we are staying near the one at Main Place, and we took the damaged, falling apart backpack in to exchange. We were told that it could not be exchanged because it had been used. Yes, it has been used, for only a couple of weeks before it was falling apart! She didn't care that it was defective merchandise. For the price I pay for the merchandise there, if it's full price, I expect not only better quality than that, but for the company to stand behind the quality. They seemed to have some great clothes at this store, probably a lot of new arrivals, but I refused to buy anything at this location. read more

A few weeks ago I came in looking for a funko pop. I was very pleased how the store was handling and being safe due to COVID-19, but I was even more please when Erica tried her best to help me find a pop. She had checked to look for it in store, the site was slow so she looked it up on her phone and couldn't find any, she then went through the effort of checking each nearby hot topic to see their stock. I was shopping at the mall on Black Friday when I saw a sign advertising something that looked perfect for a friend. I grabbed it and quickly jumped in line. There was only one person ringing people up. Seriously?! On Black Friday?! Three other people were chatting among themselves, wandering the store, folding things, or looking bored. I would give it a lower rating, but the one person who was ringing people up seemed genuinely nice. He commented how much he liked getting to talk to people while ringing them up. He took his time and was careful about folding things up and rolling up their posters carefully. Aww, too bad it was Black Friday and I was in a huge hurry! They needed one line for him and one line for the people that needed to get the hell out of there! It took 25 minutes for me to buy one thing, ugh. read more

Really disappointed in service received here today. I can in to pick up an online order, it wasn't there. Oh well, not their fault. What was in their control was apologizing for the inconvenience. Not helping three other customers on their way back to me, and being rude. One of the cashiers had the most annoyed and rude tone. I got some Christmas presents I did not care for. I read the receipt made sure that I had everything I needed "1. Original receipt 2. Unused items 3. Return before 30 days." I had all three items. Little did I know when I got to the store they would tell me that I could not return it because some coupons were not attached in addition I needed the card it was attached to. If that is what I needed than state it on the receipt! Just like spencer does. Aren't they sister company?!?! Plus I had to deal with a "manager" that had no common sense. I spend a good amount of money at hot topic. Why would you want to put a sour taste in my mouth for the coupon? My suggestion hire managers that look the part. I stopped by here for the first time about a week ago and was very thankful for the great customer service the store manager Drew provided. It was only his second day there but he took the time to help me look through the T shirts on the until I was able to find the size I was looking for. Which, mind you, was the last in its size. I also was trying to find a very specific type of septum and after he helped me look through all the piercings on the display and I still wasn't able to find what I wanted, he went to the back to grab a box of all the piercings they had to restock and went through it for me until he finally found exactly what I had been looking for. Drew was extremely helpful and friendly, he didn't make me feel like I was being a pain at all when I was even getting annoyed with myself. He really assisted me through my entire experience there, he wasn't robotic and it was a very personable experience. I felt like I was chatting and shopping with a friend. There was a girl there that was also friendly and helpful, this store is small but well organized. I was surprised at the t shirts they had there and that it had some good old school bands. They also had a good mix of music playing, made me very nostalgic. I'll definitely be back to this location. read more

I've been a fan of Hot Topic for almost 20 years now. I started coming here for band T-shirts when I was 12 and kept coming back for anything from band merchandise, to hair dye, clothing and body jewelry. I think I even bought a bikini here! They have a great selection of merch and "swag" for TV shows, movies, bands, artists, comic book heroes as well as anime and manga. There is also quite a bit of alternative clothing and accessories, which Hot Topic is well known for. They play pretty good music on the speakers. The employees are friendly and helpful. I went here a few days before Halloween and this tiny store was PACKED. They had some really really dope ass costumes. Lots of comic book stuff (DC, Marvel, Star Wars, etc) and other licensed items as well, along with their usual merchandise. I saw these awesome Nightmare Before Christmas pants and this super cute Harley Quinn dress. They were having a promo throughout the store, BOGO 50% off so I got both items. The sales chick helping me was super nice and got different items for me from the high-up hangers. Even tho they were busy she was really chill. They only have one dressing room so there was a bit of a wait there and also at checkout but hey it was Halloween and so a line was to be expected. Employees here are always polite unlike some of the hot topics I've visited. They make sure to let Me know when they will be receiving their new items and just to call before I come. Once I enter the store, i was greeted and they gave me some time to look through the items before asking if I need help. Definitely a plus in my book. Working retail most of my life, i've noticed customers like a simple hello, letting them know we see them and give some time to browse and look around and if they have questions, they'll ask. So tried to return a dress 2 days after I got it due to not being able to attend party I intended to wear it to and the store manager had the audacity to tell me it was filthy and had been worn. THIS HOT TOPIC STORE AND IT'S STAFF ARE VERY UN-CUSTOMER SERVICE FOCUSED. I bought some items online over the holidays and had it shipped to this store. Some items didn't work out and I needed to return them. It was still within the dates allowed for return but they woudn't return it because I didn't have the correct credit card that I paid with. I told them that my credit card was stolen in December and I had to get a replacement card with a different number, but I can give them my name/ID and it matches that of the online invoice. The girl said she can't do it, that it HAD to be the same card. When I asked for a store credit instead, she said she's out of merchandise card, so she can't do anything for me. What???? Told me to return by mail, which by the way would cost $$ to ship back. Go to the Spectrum Hot Topic instead.. their people are better trained. I just spoke to the manager there and explained the situation and she said to bring ID and she'll do it for me. Night and day difference in customer service. read more

Well, this store is lame! My 13 yr old went in to buy something with a debit card that I have her! The store doesn't have a debit card machine so they have to run as credit, they wouldn't let her purchase the jacket because it required signature! And the card name is mine! I texted my daughter a copy of my id, and they still wouldn't let her buy it, trust me my daughter doesn't look like a thug, far from it! So to treat her as if she is doing something wrong is insane! BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE! I exchanged a top for my daughter for another size but when it still didn't fit, I went to return it and they wouldn't issue me a refund even with the receipt! They said it must be from the original purchase but they didn't staple it to the new receipt and since it's the only item I bought I only kept the new receipt.
