We've eaten at this restaurant under at least ten different owners for about 15 years. The food was occasionally bad, a new owner would come in and then start out strong but eventually drop the ball. I think we reached the end tonight, though. Suddenly you are required to buy a $2.50 drink with every entree when you order online... extortion playing to unfortunate stereotypes I ordinary vigorously and vocally oppose. This place needs to change their name from "hot wok" to "hot sock" because their Singaporean noodle dish smells like feet, seriously. I ordered the "crispy spicy chicken" and ended up receiving mildish chicken pieces drenched in marinade (probably containing 10,000 milligrams of sodium). The general Tso's chicken had a rubbery texture to it. I did some research on rubbery chickens served from Chinese restaurants and read that one of the leading causes is overcooking the meat. The large wonton soup is a steal at $4.50 because it's one of those large to-go containers and they gave me tons of wontons - probably 10-12? Maybe more? I didn't count them, but I was appreciative that they didn't give me a container of broth with 3-4 wontons. They also gave me two little bags of the crispy wonton chips. The chicken Lo Mein was tasty as well. It was pretty average as far as the lo meins I've had around Houston, which is honestly what I was looking for. Every once in a while I get a craving for an Asian noodle dish and this satisfied that craving today. The door was cracked open and I saw the cook grabbing noodles from a pot with his bare hands. This grossed me out so much! Who does that! He had no gloves or even just using tongs to pick up noodles. This is my absolute favorite restaurant to order from. They are reasonably priced and you can get some great authentic Lo Mien as well as Egg Drop Soup (those are the things I order the most) and highly recommend trying the sweet and sour sauce. Although the menu has much more to choose from! The staff are very kind and loving and serve you very fast! I've been coming here over a year now and when I order carry out they bring it to my car for convenience sake. They've been open for about 2 months, but I've already been there 11 times. Delivery is fast. Call ahead and pick up orders are fast too. I've never waited more than 10 minutes. The staff is very sweet. A bunch of ladies. Food is above average and great quality for the price. The best you'll get in an 8 mile radius.
