Yum!! This place was so good and the service was awesome. The owners were so nice and very attentive. The tuna tataki, miso soup, seaweed salad, and the chronic roll were all amazing. Would definitely come back here. We both left stuffed for less than $40 each after tax and tip! Thank you to my Yelp Elite homies for showing me this place

This is my cult favorite sushi spot in San Francisco. Do you want to support a small business? Feel like mom n pop restaurants are dead? COME TO HOT ZUSHI, it's cozy, and the green tea is perfection. Connie and her husband are a kind, efficient, duo that spin up fresh sushi every time. We come to Hot Zushi monthly, take our friends here, and visitors. If there is a wait, since there's only a dozen tables - I promise it's worth waiting for, just grab a drink across the street at the Woods. We haven't tried anything what isn't great but here are our favorites we rotate: - House salad is a MUST - Edamame - Miso - cucumber salad - wakame (seaweed) - Hamachi lime - Jalapeno tuna - big team - Big poppa - chronic - smashing pumpkins - tiger - any sashima My star rating: 5 - must go!!! 4 - liked it, give it a try! 3 - it was alright 2 - I probably won't go back 1 - turnaround and run

Delicious rolls. The vegan rolls are amazing. I got garden and hot night.

Amazing food. Reasonably priced. Super nice and intimate. Vegan rolls were great. Adding this to my regular restaurant rotation.

This is out go-to sushi place in SF. You can't get better than Hot Zushi. The attention is exceptional (Connie and David - the owners - are AMAZING humans) We come here probably once or twice every couple of weeks. Sometimes we dine in and often times we pick up to go (they don't deliver). My husband and I have made a tradition of celebration our birthdays here, and everyone that comes and tries their sushi are immediately converted into customers. Sushi is great and fairly priced which is so hard to find in the city. Highly recommend you order the crunchy sake, the tuna tataki, the nachos are to die for, and the sake kale is incredible. My mouth is watering just by writing this. My husband's favorite is the jagger (only order I'd you are dining in, because to-go, it will get soggy) The place can get crowded sometimes. Definitely worth the wait if you have to wait. The inside is nice and simple. And if you have a party, make sure you call ahead and they will make a reservation (please make sure you show up, and don't leave them hanging- a cancellation of a big party is a big deal for a small business like this)

The name of this place is absolutely deceiving, I seriously questioned how the food would be considering the name. To my surprise this place is great - the quality is fantastic and it's superrr reasonable!! Everyone is hyped on drenching their sushi in "eel sauce" and spicy mayo, this is not the place for that. It's fresh fish prepared well - very clean tasting. Even though it's not on the menu I've heard that you can request omakase, which I will definitely be getting the next time I'm in!

I thought this was a great casual dinner spot and a good value! We paid about $60 for two people and left very full. I'm a vegetarian and really appreciate that they had some fun unique options for rolls! I got the garden roll which I HIGHLY recommend if you are a vegetarian - the garlic eggplant on it was reallyyyyy delicious and the tempura asparagus was incredibly crispy. I also got the buddha roll, it was just okay and I wouldn't rave about it. Honestly I would have been full with just the one garden roll. My boyfriend got three rolls - he liked the 49ers roll the best. The other two were pretty good too! Overall I thought this was a good place and the service was friendly.

Really enjoyed this hole in the wall sushi place! From the outside, it didn't look like much and I thought it was going to be cheap, not super great sushi. Even sitting down I wasn't too impressed because it was pretty empty for a Friday night. We ordered the Sake Kirota, Hot Stuff, and Delicious and they were really good! Same Kirota was carb free (they used a daikon instead) and it was definitely an interesting take on sushi. Personally not my favorite, but really glad I tried it and they gave pretty generous amounts of salmon. Hot stuff and delicious were really good! I was a huge fan of the tempura in the hot stuff and the delicious had a nice sweet kick that made it the perfect dessert sushi. The waiter was also very friendly! She was smiling all the time and seemed like dish a sweet person :)

Usually if I happen to be in another city, I would make it count. This habit couldn't be truer nowadays. When I had to drop something off to my brother who lives in SF, I made sure to try a nearby sushi bar for dinner. Hot Zushi looked like a promising candidate! I placed my order via phone and luckily found parking on Haight street that is normally teeming with cars. Staff was nice and had my order ready 5 min upon my arrival. I scurried home to Oakland as fast (and safely) as a could. The rolls I ordered sounded so yummy and creative. -Hot Stuff: shrimp tempura, crab topped with torched hamachi, spicy aioli, and jalapeño slices -Chronic: tuna (I subbed for salmon), yellowtail, avocado topped with crab, aioli, escolar, and bonito flakes Both rolls were absolutely delicious- unique flavors, fresh fish and made well. I had some leftovers and after nuking them slightly in the microwave, they were the perfect snack the next day. If you are a sushi lover who is into creative and delicious rolls who doesn't mind the occasional splurge (which translates to frequent in my case), this place is for you!

Chronic roll, best thing we ordered but was still average

You can pick up to 4 dishes each time, then added to cart. When your dish is coming, you see the light flashing, then a nice train carries your happiness over. The restaurant can be a little hidden, but it's pretty easy to find with the instructions they send before your reservation. It's located above Fermentation Lab. Just head up the stairs and you'll find it inside the old Ichi Pub space. The restaurant is small and intimate, with only 9 seats at the counter. When you arrive, walk through the Yuji curtain and check in directly with the chef since there is no host. My biggest concern with set menus is always whether I'll feel satisfied and full afterward, but that was definitely not an issue here. My husband and I were both very satisfied after the meal. Every dish was delicious, and you could really taste the quality of each ingredient. Highlights for me were the bluefin sashimi, which was so buttery and soft that it literally melted in your mouth. The skillfish was rich and decadent, and the citrus and ginger balanced the flavors. The fried fish was another favorite as it reminded me of the savory Japanese rice crackers I loved growing up. Since it's located in Japantown, parking can be challenging. We had to loop around several times looking for street parking and even had two cars take spots we were waiting for, so definitely give yourself extra time before your reservation. I would highly recommend this place! The chef changes the menu periodically based on what's in season, so it's a great excuse to come back and try something new in the future. I think expectations are usually low when going to these types of spots but given the quality and price, it's actually pretty surprising. I usually stop by for dinner on weeknights. It can get busy sometimes but I've never waited more than 10-15 minutes. Service is quick and friendly. The goal is to get you seated and taken care of right away. Once you sit down, it's game on. The location is unusual, as the restaurant is open to the mall, which is a bit disruptive. I came for the 8:30pm seating, but the previous guests were still finishing, so I had to wait until 8:45pm. The staff did not seem very concerned. Bad start. You could also hear the mall cleaning crew during dinner, which was not very pleasant. I ordered the 24-item Mizuho Menu, as did all the other guests. There were 5 guests in total (the restaurant can seat up to 8 people). Here is the menu I was served at the end of May: 1. starter: ama ebi cracker with caviar, pickled lotus root with shaved bonito, crab salad 2. nigiri 4x: isaki, iwana, myabi tai, kanpachi 3. sashimi: chutoro, hotate with caviar, umi masu, sawada 4. nigiri 8x: hirame, suzuki, inada, kurodai, shima aji, kamasu, otoro, aged A5 wagyu, kinmedai 5. hot dish: miso soup with inari and shrimp head, hokkaido uni with marinated ikura, black cod, umi masu with raw yellow egg and caviar 6. dessert: matcha ice cream with strawberry Frankly, the food was excellent. The starter was not very creative, but the nigiri were great. The sashimi selection was very nice, with some fish you do not see as often in omakase menus, such as isaki, iwana, and myabi tai, a kind of tai. Sawada was delicious and is always a good inclusion. We asked for some wasabi and received a small cup of kizami wasabi, a chopped wasabi with a slightly crunchy texture, which was a nice touch. For the nigiri, all the classics of a good omakase were present: otoro, kinmedai, shima aji, uni, hotate, and wagyu. Kamasu was also included, and it is one of my favorite fish. It is also worth noting that they age both their beef and their tuna, including the otoro that was served. A few pieces were torched, maybe a few too many. Overall, the service was not memorable, although chef Ron Au was friendly and nice. The place itself felt a bit questionable, and my expectations were not very high after the beginning of the meal.
