Came here multiple times since we live close by. We tried the Ohmori Omakase Sashimi and it was tasty though the portion sizes are on the smaller end for the price. They do have happy hour, which is 5:30pm - 7pm, with a couple different Chef's Choice rolls and sashimi options that we have tried. All are pretty good. Service is quick and the vibes are great for date night or grabbing dinner with friends.

Ordered take and definitely will again! Little pricey but man it's delicious - Papa San Roll LOVED !! - Happy Everyday Roll - DD2 Roll Really nice staff and can't wait to try their happy hour

happy hour roll, no cucumber. sorry it doesn't say on the receipt

I'm conflicted. I actually like one single roll a lot, but the rest is meh. The Black Sabbath roll had deep fried shishito pepper inside which is pretty unique, especially since SF sushi restaurants aren't very creative with their maki. The rice is fine, and the wasabi was the nice chunky type instead of the smooth paste. The ginger was good. We also got the Papa San roll with mayo crab mix, the red snapper was almost tasteless. The Volcano roll was okay, it was pretty. We were walk-ins right when they opened for dinner on a week night. The hostesses/servers are snooty for no reason. The overall service and vibes are weird and according to my receipt I think they charge an automatic 20% for tip? I mean that's how much I would tip anyways, but it's slightly weird that it's pre-set on the receipt? I could be wrong. They also have an "SF offset" junk fee fyi. Eating at the small tables to the left of the bar is awkward and uncomfortable. They have a big collection of whisky or whatever so maybe you're better off coming here for drinks. We also ordered food for pickup one time prior to this in-person visit on the phone and they required my credit card number ahead of time fyi. *Edit for the manager's passive aggressive reply: "Our 20% gratuity charge is now in line with most San Francisco restaurants." - from the manager's reply Interesting... I've been to hundreds of SF restaurants and Tsunami is the only restaurant that I can recall that charges an automatic 20% gratuity on the bill... for two people? Are there other restaurants in the city that add an automatic 20% gratuity for a party of two? Even the nearby Che Fico, who is known for their junk fees and adds a 10% dine in fee, leaves the gratuity amount or percentage up to the customers to decide. "It helps us ensure a fair distribution of tips between our front and back-of-house teams, a practice we've found to be successful." - from the manager's reply The auto 20% gratuity charge doesn't have much to do with the fair distribution of tips. Were tips not being distributed fairly before the auto 20% and why? Are you saying that if your servers were making 15%-18% in tips then they wouldn't share any of it with the cooks and server assistants? The owners could try paying your front AND back of house employees a fair living wage in the first place. They could build the fair wages into the menu prices to make your practices and pricing more transparent to customers. Or the owners could increase staff wages as part of their expenses :) As for the volcano roll... I'm glad you've since changed the menu. I hope you and the owners continue to be open to constructive criticism.

Came to Tsunami at 5:40, we had a very welcoming bartender- Victoria couldn't have been lovelier. She educated us about Sake and we had great conversation. We sat at the bar for happy hour and have to say... extremely impressive. Half off on the big sashimi plate (originally 45, happy hour 24). Maki of the day (org 24 but happy hour 13!) was absolutely unreal quality and value. Amazing service, vibey ambiance. This place is one of our staples! P. S. 20% gratuity is always automatically added to the dining-in bill

you know it's a great sushi place when the bathroom is miles away down a drafty back alley hallway. This place blew me away, fabulous service, great atmosphere and excellent food! All of the waiters were very knowledgeable and had great sake and menu recs. Some of the best rolls I've had in sf. I'll be back!!

We had a group dinner here a few weeks ago and tbh, nothing really stood out although it was quiet pricey lol. They have this deal of getting a dozen of free oysters with an order of sake but we didn't like the oysters because they were too big so taste more... mild. Sushi rolls were mid also tbh. First time having pepper with sushi and it was just meh. Sashimi tasted kinda fishy and a bit slimy? Also, our food took forever to arrive.

Vegetarian Nigiri & Maki Set (all awesome but the item on the right w/eggplant was DIVINE!)

17 years later and still damn awesome! Can't believe I've been here at least 12 times & this is my 3rd review, 17 years later. The place is still as fresh and fun as when it 1st opened. We stopped in before a show at the Independent (Milk Carton Kids and btw - amazing) to grab a light dinner. We were seated at a table in the window, where we've sat in the past. Music was upbeat and crowd had a great vibe. Although we eat meat (not often though) we opted for the "Vegetarian Nigiri & Maki Set" along withe seaweed salad, Ikura and cold sake. The eggplant maki (part of the veg set) was DIVINE. So satisfying, slightly sweet. The only thing I can't believe is that I wrote the original review 17 years ago! Time flies, but this sushi spot still shines. There's something special about longevity with a restaurant and how it can keep the quality, vibe and freshness (of food and environment) still going strong!

===TL;DR=== - Make a reservation! - Happy hour is till 7pm - Free dozen oysters with bottle purchased (sake, wine, shochu from the restaurants drink menu only) - Sashimi 16 pc - Papa San roll - Scorpion roll - Sesame salmon go roll ===TMI=== Hot place so do make a reservation ahead of time. Finding parking sucked so have fun circling. On the flip side, got there an hour late (called them so they were aware) and they still made it work so kudos to you guys! Laid back vibes. Chefs in the middle island crunching food out surrounded by tables around for customers. When you walk in, first thing you get hit with is Japanese whiskey and oysters. Didn't think I was gonna get full with just the oysters and sashimis alone so I ordered some rolls -- boy I was wrong. Nothings beats some quality fish + double fisting with some sake and Yamazaki. P.S. right when the order was placed, it had just past 7pm by 2 minutes so the guy told us happy hour was no longer valid... end up still ordering drinks + oysters. Momentarily, the dude came back and said he can only honor the drinks but not the oysters... not sure why if you can honor 1 but not the other -shrug-

It takes a lot for me to consider a return visit to a cocktail bar. Most of the time, I just begrudgingly go along with my friends to a mediocre bar, but Blind Pig is a place I would enthusiastically return to again and again. I first got the namesake cocktail: Blind Pig. It was incredibly well-balanced, and the flame presentation upon arrival was an epic mini show. Later during last call, I decided to risk it all and roll the dice to order from the secret menu. I rolled a 5, which got me a wine & Japanese beer concoction with Sichuan peppercorn. Totally feel like this cocktail was made for me, as I rep the 川渝 region. The drink was strong, but that made it all the better. I'm personally over (and too old) dealing with sloppy drunks spilling drinks on you, getting pushed around in a crowd or end up in a middle of a brawl Blind Pig is that perfect spot, well at least on a weeknight: chill, low-key, and moody. And, most importantly comfy seating AND solid AZN inspired craft cocktails ($18-$19). Cocktails with black sesame, taro, pandan, mapo tofu, tea, and hot pot flavors? YAS! D R I N K S * Hot & Sour: Tanqueray Gin w/ Iichiko shochu, aloe, rose, hot pot paste, basil, citrus, peychaud's ($18 x2) The sichuan hot pot inspired cocktail was silky smooth from the milk-washed gin, nicely balanced - sweet (but not too sweet) and sour with a subtle málà numbing spice. Stiff yet easy to drink. The manager/bartender, Leo was awesome with great hospitality. Background lounge-y music is not too loud so you can yap and catch-up with friends. Overall, Blind Pig is a great place to unwind after work or start the night off. If it's too tamed for you, you can always go next door to XEX to make bad decisions - no judgement cuz we've all been there! ;) O T H E R I N F O * Walk-in only. The mushroom bahn mi sliders were amazing - the quality fillings and taste of the soft bun - I was unexpectedly hit with a bite of spice from maybe jalapeño seeds left but didn't sour my experience. The shishito peppers ended up being extremely spicy as well, those are usually just a few spicy and not the majority. The roasted lemon and salt was a wonderful combo but just too spicy to eat. However, the server very kindly removed it from our bill without us asking. We order the crostini because we were still hungry and that was an absolute hit. Delicious med-soft crostini with luscious berries and sweet honey. I didn't care my hands got sticky as it was soooo good! Great experience, I would be weary if the peppers as I'm a bit spice-intolerant but everything else was spot-on.

The chips are seasoned like Doritos so there's a nice flavor but the seasoning is in consistent. Some pieces were SO salty and some had no seasoning. The salsa is pretty rich as well. When our ceviche came, I ate a bite without the seafood and it tasted fishy. When I tried the actual seafood part, I knew it went bad because it had such a strong odor. We had to send it back but saw them serving it to other people. I eat a lot of seafood and I don't mind a slight fishy taste but this was definitely a food poisoning situation. After that it took a very very long time to get our last dish. Unfortunately when it finally came out, it was a disappointment. The octopus texture tasted like it had freezer burn, then was over cooked, sat too long after it was cooked because they had to make the fries. The fries were fresh but the octopus was dry, cold, hard, and chewy. I've had lots of pulpo before and this was a let down. It was a bummer that we didn't get to eat much and decided to walk somewhere else to finish dinner.
