We typically stay at traditional hotels like Marriott, Intercontinental or all-inclusive resorts when we travel. My husband has been asking for a Bed and Breakfast, and I decided to indulge him. 2025 was not the best year for us due to an illness I was battling for over 6 months. Travel was not in the cards for us, however; a quick trip to Monterey from the Bay Area was just what we needed to reset and recharge. Tony greeted us with an infectious smile upon arrival, and we could feel the magic unfold. The hotel is very 50s style, and the aesthetic is chic, fun and bold. Make sure you check out the photography in the breakfast room. Each day, you are invited to a complimentary made-to-order breakfast. To say it's excellent, is an understatement. If you like popovers, this place is a gem. If you enjoy attentive service and very friendly folks that really just want you to relax, this is the place for you. Their coffee is spectacular as well, so load up on that rocket fuel! We were always offered treats like yummy baklava at the front desk, and it was very easy to obtain whatever we needed or wanted from the staff. Our room, albeit small was well appointed and the only 'inconvenience' was storing our huge suitcase under the bed. We loved the ability to open the windows and feel that beautiful, fresh ocean air which you can't really do in a high-rise hotel. Indecently, you can view the ocean from the rooftop which looks like an entertaining time during the warmer months. The time and care with the guests is beyond comparison. Tony is someone who belongs in hospitality. He has a warm, caring, genuine and kind. He really made our time in Monterey worthwhile. Do NOT stay here. We booked this for a two-night stay through Airbnb at $300 per night, believing it was a 4-star hotel -- it is not. It is a 2-star hotel with a very high opinion of itself. 1. The bathroom toilet takes 15 minutes to refill after flushing. We became so frustrated that we resorted to manually filling it with water from the sink. 2. The listing specifically advertised a jacuzzi in the bathroom. It is out of order. It is just a standard shower and tub. 3. The furniture is extremely old. The glass cabinet is cracked and peeling in multiple places -- a genuine safety hazard. The bed is oversized for the room, making it feel uncomfortably cramped and claustrophobic. 4. The walls are poorly patched and have visible holes and cracks throughout. To make matters worse, we spotted a cockroach emerging from the wall. 5. The rooftop bar staff are polite, but the hotel staff are curt and unhelpful. Our reservation included breakfast, with the earliest seating at 8:00 AM. We had a hike scheduled before then and asked if we could take the food to go. The response was simply, "No breakfast for you." The following morning, we discovered the breakfast comes with numerous restrictions: no substitutions for dietary needs, and any modifications cost extra. The portions were so small that we had to eat a second breakfast elsewhere. What is the point of offering this at all? For $300 per night, this was a deeply disappointing experience. You are far better off booking a Marriott or Hilton. read more

These guys must write their own reviews. It is a dump. Peeling paint on the walls, the outlet covers aren't attached and kept falling off when I opened the very poorly hung and dingy curtains. There is exposed plumbing in the weird shower....they must have got them on clearance. The room smelled musty and I asked for a fan. It took 15-20 minutes for the person at the front desk to find me one and he handed me a filthy blade fan that stunk. The manager got me a new fan when I went back to the desk and told him the one I got had an odor. Turns out there was a fan in the closet of the room. Why didn't they just tell me that? The front desk guy had been giving me coffee for a couple mornings (you can't go in to the restaurant unless you have a reservation) so I drank my coffee in the lobby...no big deal (there was a kid in the restaurant, which is odd for an adults-only hotel) and the third morning I went to the lobby and he wasn't there. I was told you can't get coffee before 8:00 AM. Wow. It was over $900.00 for four nights. I asked to check out on the first day and was told it was non-refundable. The floor was gritty and you could see that it hadn't been mopped in a while. This place is gross. I did go to the rooftop restaurant. It advertised lamb kebab, so that's what I ordered. It was ground gyro meat. Not lamb. I asked about the lamb burger and they said it's the same. Not lamb. They only way to get lamb is to order the lamb chops. Why lie on the menu? It's not lamb. It's gyro meat. The location is OK. It's across the street from a junk yard but an easy walk to the wharf. Overall, this place is awful. read more

Pros: - Vintage-styled hotel with great service!! Staff was super kind and welcoming throughout our stay. - Rooftop bar!! Apparently they're one of the few places in Monterey to have one. - Complimentary breakfast! Make sure to reserve a time slot with the front desk the day before. No walk-in seating for breakfast. Meal is selected off a menu and made to order. Not buffet style which we appreciated. The lemon pancakes are bomb.com. My hub and I still talk about how yummy they were. Con's: - Super tiny parking lot in the back with only about 6 spaces? If you don't wanna pay for parking, you're welcome to park on the street nearby. - Our room had its quirks. The sink wobbled easily, the shower curtain didn't cover the whole tub so water would spray out on one end, and each night I'd wake to a rhythmic ticking/clicking sound every 10-20min or so around 3-4am? 'twas strange. - No AC. However, most of Monterey doesn't have AC units since it's not needed most of the time. Even with the cons, the hotel was clean, staff was attentive/sweet, and it has many enjoyable amenities!! My wife found this place on Airbnb, but they also take reservations on their website. Prices are quite reasonable, some nearby places go for almost double. This place is to be described as a boutique hotel/ bed and breakfast mainly tailored for couples. Elegant rooms with antique furniture fits a building from 1925. Reservation includes free breakfast, serving popovers and breakfast menu. They also have a wine and spirits bar in the check in desk and ice cold water with glasses in the lobby. Some people may dislike the no mini fridge or coffee maker in the rooms, but the amenities are downstairs (above mentioned), an upstairs restaurant which I also reviewed recently, and coffee is also served with breakfast. Room was cozy and equipped with a fireplace heater, fan, bathrobes, hairdryer and jetted bathtub and shower. We had our window facing a mural but the hotel is quiet and walls are apparently soundproof. Staff was friendly, always greeting us with a hello and asking how are we doing. This place was enjoyable and we booked it for our first wedding anniversary. It exceeded our expectations, staying in a cozy and romantic hotel. I'd recommend and I would return! read more

Hotel 1110 is a gem. I stayed for 2 nights while on a work trip, chosen for its lower price than nearby competition and proximity to work. Tony at the desk was incredible and provided excellent service, and always with a smile. The included (if booked directly) breakfast was amazing, full sit down with freshly made eggs, hot breakfast popovers, ricotta lemon pancakes, fresh coffee, etc. The upstairs bar has amazing views of the bay and sunset, not to mention a perfect steak frites and heat lamps to enjoy the sunset. Right on the bay and an easy place to start a beach walk, with paths all the way to cannery row if you're up for it. Huge bathrooms and cute old rooms. That said, I got the cheapest room possible (I am told it was the smallest in the entire hotel) and the room was fairly small, bed was old, there was a fair bit of road noise, and street parking only though fairly convenient. This would normally preclude me from staying again. On the contrary, I would definitely come stay with Tony and Hotel 1110 again any time I am in Monterey. read more

I loved Hotel 1110. It was a cute, charming boutique hotel steps. The location is perfect. Steps from the beach, across the street from a nice lake/park, 7 minute walk to downtown, 15 minute walk to Cannery Row, 10-15 minute drive to Carmel. Tony at the front desk was very nice. Their breakfast in the morning wasn't expensive and they served great food, strong coffee, and they offered a complimentary pastry with home made blueberry jam. The bed was comfortable and the shower was really nice. Lastly, the rooftop restaurant/bar. Although, I didn't take advantage of it, I went upstairs to take a look before I left back to Los Angeles. My boyfriend and I were very surprised to find a last minute reservation for New Year's Eve. We stayed in room 206, the Roman room, and it was so cute! It had a jetted tub (however I will warn that the drain stopper did not work, so we kept losing water", and a private patio. Tony checked us in, and even carried our suitcase up to the second floor for us. They give you actual keys, which we thought was super cool. The room was pretty small, but we expected it since the hotel is more of a bed and breakfast type place. Speaking of breakfast, it was a made to order, restaurant type of experience. Very cool! Tony was also our waiter the next morning for breakfast. And breakfast was pretty good. I got the breakfast tacos and my boyfriend got the eggs and toast with apple chicken sausage- his was better than mine but mine was still tasty for a free breakfast! My boyfriend had prearranged roses and chocolate covered strawberries, and those were set up in the room prior to our arrival. The only thing to note is Tony asked we leave the vase- so just know if you order the roses you don't get to keep the vase lol. The only con I'd say would be how hot the room was. There is no thermostat in the room, but there is a little Dyson desk fan in the closet that we plugged in and cracked the door, and it helped cool the room off. One more con for us, but might work for you, is how soft the beds are. We are more into firm mattresses, but it won't keep us from returning!! We will definitely be returning, we want to try out some other themed rooms! read more

In early December, I was searching for NYE plans. On social media, I stumbled upon a rooftop party being held at this hotel and was pleased to find the ticket prices were reasonable!! I was even more pleased to find the hotel rooms for NYE night were reasonably priced as well. After quickly scanning the reviews on Yelp and Trip Advisor and seeing a trend of positive comments and pictures, I quickly purchased party tickets and a room for the night. My decision was even more confirmed when I called the hotel and spoke with Tony, who patiently answered my questions and explained more details about the party and accommodations. The week of New Years due to a big rainstorm in Northern California over the past several days, we considered canceling our trip. Again, when I called the hotel, Tony reassured me that they had an alternative indoor plan for the party. When we arrived at around 3 pm, our Audrey Hepburn roowm on the 3rd floor was ready. Unfortunately, the hotel elevator was out of order. However we were assisted with our luggage by one of the hotel staff. The room was small, clean, and quaint with a big comfy bed, small mounted tv, and faux mood fireplace. A glass dresser and standing closet were available. The bathroom was remodeled, clean, and fresh looking with plenty of clean white towels. Upon request, Tony personally brought us a bucket of ice to our room, even had toothpaste when we forgot ours. Fortunately, the rain had ceased by the evening but was replaced with a cold wind. The rooftop was spacious with plenty of seating, and heat warmers scattered around. Tony again was working the rooftop bar, top 40 R&B, and pop were played as well as passed appetizers. We rang in the new year with passed champagne with lots of friendly party goers. Due to chilly weather, the party wrapped up around 1230pm . We slept so well in the comfy bed. However, I could see in warmer months that the third floor rooms could be a little warm and stuffy. The window does open partially, so that could help. Another great perk was the included hot breakfast . We had the chorizo tacos served with fresh fruit. We had coffee, Bloody Mary as well as fresh popovers with homemade raspberry preserves. Again, Tony was singlehandedly hosting breakfast, which was completely organized and delicious. Tips for your stay- * Reserve a parking spot and ensure you have a skilled driver to park in the narrow alley & lot. *If you have mobility issues, request a room on the first floor if the elevator is out. * Stay for breakfast - definitely worth it * Go with an open mind. This is not the Hyatt. It is a small European boutique style hotel with lots of personality. As long as it's run by Tony, Nick and their staff, who you can tell really care about their customers and style I highly recommend it, and it was a great way to bring in the 2023 New Year ! read more

Stayed here for two nights for a weekend getaway with my partner. Pros included adults only, each room having a tub, reasonable price for the area, and breakfast included. We stayed in 308, the room was smaller than expected and a lil more on the basic side. The curtains were not black out so the light in the morning woke us up. The TV was also not a smart TV so had to rely on cable. When we got into the room, we noticed the windows were open and later realized that despite it being cold in Monterey, the rooms themselves can get stuffy. The tub was also really only big enough for one person so I was dissapointed as it was a major selling point for me. The breakfast was okay nothing to rave over but it was at least included with the room. Overal was a okay experience, for the way it is advertised I expected a bit more but given the price I understand. Probs wouldn't stay again unless it was the only other affordable decent option. read more

We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel 1110. The only bad part is that our visit was during an annual car show in Carmel so we could only stay 1 night as everything was booked and anything you could find was very pricey. Personally we love boutique hotels. And this one didn't disappoint. Our room was very cozy and nicely decorated. The bed was very comfortable as well. They also provide breakfast that's included in your stay. Yum!!! But the main highlight was the roof top bar/restaurant. We stopped up there an hour before heading out to a dinner reservation in which we were greeted by Anna and Chloe. These two were awesome and made us feel right at home. To the point that we returned after dinner and spent the last hour before closing with them. We took to them so much that we brought them dessert upon our return. As we were getting ready to leave they gave us a hug. You don't see that often. We would stay here again for that kind of service alone. That being said we also met Tony who I believe is the owner. Sharing it here for others to file similar complaints if needed. Sold out night in Monterey with no other place to stay in the city. I couldn't believe it- $50 voucher offered for next stay as a resolution because I "refused" their refund as they wanted me to sleep on the street. Owner should put his ego aside and be ashamed of this type of establishment, as I was eye to eye with him we were told to "go away" and email your complaint. I got a back handed email about "fruit flies", look at all those ants and the size of the flies! read more

I stayed at Hotel 1110 for one weekday night. After driving around trying to find some sort of street parking, I entered into a beautifully decorated lobby where we were promptly greeted by the front desk. I was given a key to my hotel room and took the excruciatingly slow elevator ride to my room where a case of red roses sat, that my boyfriend had ordered from room service for me. The room was small but cute. It had an electric fireplace and vintage looking furniture. One of the decorative pillows had a hole in it. Unfortunately there was no fridge/cups/coffee located in the room. The bed was very comfortable and I slept like a dream. The heated floor tiles gave an extra feel of class in the bathroom. The complimentary breakfast and rooftop restaurant are definitely the highlight of this hotel. I would definitely stay here again but if you're looking for your typical hotel service/amenities then I would recommend staying somewhere else. Me and my wife were genuinely surprised when we stayed here. This was going to be just an overnight stay, with us going around the town at night. In the end we ended up using their beautiful rooftop bar with a great view of the bay at sunset. The drinks were well made, the staff was personable and the breakfast was amazing! The room was definitely unique and we were lucky enough to have a patio with a wonderful garden. My one complaint was the the faucet in the bathroom which sputtered when you turned it on. This was quickly fixed by the staff after calling it in. We are used to staying in a Hyatt style hotel and so having a change in that was welcome. read more

The views from the rooftop is amazing! I wish I could find all my photos I've taken up there. For now I will leave a photo of their charcuterie board which is yummy. Their burger among other of their food is also pretty good. The drinks are your typical bar drinks, though they are on the pricier side. I will say service is quite slow which is not everyone's cup of tea. It's not a big area so it can get busy pretty quick and miss a table where you can see the sunset. My mom and I went here while visiting in Monterey. Walking in was pretty interesting, it definitely gave off American Horror Story hotel vibes but I think that was just my paranoia late at night and having an actual key, not a key card to use. The staff was crazy friendly and the hotel was honestly so cool. It was definitely a romantic getaway spot that would have been better suited for a couple, rather than mother/daughter pair, but it didn't make the hotel any less phenomenal, we just thought it was funny. The rooftop bar the Lindarose was just okay. I got a Paloma that was really good, and we split the salmon and a small Mezze. The food was also excellent, nice portion sizes, however the service was pretty slow, and that definitely knocked it a couple of points, but overall good experience. The complimentary breakfast, however, was to die for. I am not into coffee/tea or anything but my mom says that the tea was very good. I personally liked the water. The waiter brought out some boujee croissant bread roll, that was super light, doughy, and airy. I don't recall the name of it but I could live off of them for the rest of my life. That combined with the homemade jam and butter, I was set before even ordering my main course. I ordered the Cultured Yogurt, and the yogurt was so good. It was plain yogurt, so kind of on the bitter side, but mixed with the house made granola and sweet fresh fruit, the flavors meshed splendidly. My mom ordered the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes and raved about them, and one of the other days ordered the Grilled Polenta. Only complaint she had was about the bacon being a little too rubbery for her taste, but that is a personal preference. The waiter was super personable, even gave recommendations of things to do, and made our stay incredibly pleasant. It's a small boutique like hotel that is on a major thoroughfare heading into the downtown area. It was Monterey Jazz Festival weekend and hotels were limited so we snagged the last room which was on the first floor and front part of the building. I had stayed here before and decided to give it another try. The front desk host was nice and we checked in without a hitch. We were given keys to the front door as it's typically locked by 10pm. They have a rooftop bar area and provide breakfast costing around $15 dollars. There is street parking available within the neighborhood itself and there didn't appear to be any time restrictions. The room itself was quaint, clean and had a fairly large bathroom. Walls were pretty thin and you could hear traffic whizzing bye, movement upstairs and the occasional sound from the front desk area. Overall the hotel met our needs and I would only recommend not staying in the room close to the front of the hotel. read more

This is pretty standard boutique hotel, so the rooms are small, but cute. Not all the views are great because there will be rooms against the other building, but the walls were at least painted for a nicer vibe. Like with any hotel, you get what you pay for, so reserve early and pay for the nicer view if that's what you want to experience. I'm torn between a 4 or a 5 star because parking and rooms were small and not the most convenient, however, this is expected from ANY boutique hotel, so people complaining about this just didn't do their research before booking. My friend and I were just content with a place to stay between hiking and camping around big sur and loved this little cozy place. It's really close to the water, but quiet because it's not super close to cannery row. It is a nice walk or super quick drive to nearby restaurants/breweries/wharf. I was able to grab a parking spot (first come first serve), but it's a small lot so you just want to back in to get out easily. My friend found street parking for her rental car very easy and the neighborhood seemed safe. The complimentary breakfast was so good! We had to make a reservation for our time slot (I think it was due to covid to space out the guests eating up there). The employees were friendly and very helpful so definitely leave a tip! read more

Absolutely beautiful!! The hotel, the food, the staff. We truly felt like we were staying with family. This boutique hotel was thoughtfully created by Nick, the owner. Interior boasts beautiful photography, eclectic art pieces from the past. Each morning, we were treated to popovers and freshly ground coffee as we awaited our breakfast. I had the scrambled eggs, which were cooked perfectly fluffy. All the other items on menu were just as delicious. The rooftop served an array of beverages and delectable dinner options. The charcuterie board was perfect to go with cocktails. We stayed at Hotel 1110 during car week. We quickly became family and also other guests. We booked the Marlyn Monroe room with the hot tub and it was great - lots of modern features, including a bidet! We loved the convenience of the rooftop bar - we ate there both nights! We loved the baked Brie with honey...soooo good. We also loved the complimentary made to order breakfast in the morning! Highly recommend the egg scrambled and the tacos. The coffee is delicious. Also want to give a big shoutout to the management team - they truly made us feel special and gave a very personalized experience. They even threw in complimentary mimosas for breakfast! I'm going to start with the positives first: - Rooms are neat and clean. - Bathrooms are upgraded with spa tubs and massaging showers. - Breakfast was well cooked and made to order, they also customized it exactly the way we asked. - Aesthetic hotel decor Few things to know before you come in: Parking in the lot is limited (only 5 spots, first come first serve). So be prepared to park on the street, which can get a bit scary at night. No appliances in the room (coffee makers etc), so you have go down and get stuff like cups/kettle which cannot be done after hours. No vents in the bathroom, and the heater in our room didn't work well, on the first day it only ran for an hour before turning off. We requested an extra blanket but it was pretty cold so not a comfortable experience. They said they could not fix it in a day so they would get us a space heater but didn't hear anything back regarding that for the next 2 days. Breakfast is a set menu, 5 choices, same everyday. No vegan options. Check in time closes after 9 pm and they didn't accommodate a late check in for us, while their website says they do accommodatelate check ins with a $25 fee. While this is listed on their website, I'm adding this here so it might help someone else who didn't read the website FAQs. It's an inconvenient policy since the nearest major airport is 1.5hrs away and there are easy ways to fix this which other hotels do (lockboxes). Since the cancellation is non refundable, they offered to move our reservation 3 mo out/to March, which does not help the cause. read more

I thought it was a unique experience because you actually get a key which you usually don't see now a days. The rooms needed some paint touched up, and the jets in the tub didn't work, but for the price, it was still a nice place and good location. The rooftop bar was excellent a little pricey on the drinks, but that's expected for the area. I was really surprised by the breakfast. Your reservation includes breakfast. I thought it was no big deal, probably just a continental breakfast, some muffins and orange juice, but no... this was a nice breakfast with fresh pop over, breakfast tacos, fresh fruit and mimosas, or bloody marrys. Our reservations were made two weeks prior. We confirmed our reservation that morning of. They gave us a brief of what they had to offer for dinner since our reservation was at 7:45pm. Upon arrival, we were seated then we ordered our drinks. We didn't receive them till 30mins later. We were there for 45 mins before being offered to order food. Due to lack of preparation and ingredients, four members of our party were forced to alter their meals. Which we found it frustrating because we were told they didn't have many options due to them stating they "carry everything fresh". We had to ask to speak with the manager. No wonder we've lived in the area for our whole lives and haven't heard anyone speak this restaurant up. Their only receiving a star because of their bartender was excellent with our cocktail drinks and it's view of the ocean. One last thing if we can see the kitchen from our seats please make sure your staff is at least maintaining a professional attitude. read more

This is an absolutely charming boutique hotel - my wife and I stayed here two nights and completely enjoyed it. The included breakfast is absolutely fantastic and far higher quality than honestly I was expecting. Everything about this hotel shows that it is a labor of love. Yes, there is a lot of traffic noise because it's on a busy street. And yes their parking is extremely limited so you might have to hunt for parking in the surrounding residential area. However, those two things are really minor points when you consider how well-run and charming this place is. read more

Nice, quiet and clean hotel with a comfortable bed and delicious food for breakfast! Right across from the beach, short drive to Carmel, easy walk to Cannery Row and a short drive to Salinas (John Steinbeck house.). Manager Tony made the experience extra nice by providing excellent customer service. He has such a warm and hospitable personality, which adds to the lovely Hotel 1110 experience. Additionally, he is knowledgeable about the region's history and other literary topics. Mgr Tony is such a valuable asset to this hotel and he is the reason why I will recommend this hotel to friends and family as well as return next time I'm up North. We enjoyed our one night stay at Hotel 1110. The staff was very friendly and we enjoyed the complimentary glass of wine/beer during happy hour and complimentary breakfast. The rooftop was under construction but we were still able to grab a drink downstairs and enjoy it at the front of the rooftop with a view of the ocean. We stayed in a 2nd floor King bedroom. The room itself is pretty small and a bit dated. There is no air conditioning which is fine for Monterey. We left our windows open to cool down the room but had to shut them at night because of the street noise. Once closed you couldn't hear it. The bed was on the firmer side but still comfortable. We enjoyed the central location of the hotel and took a quick Lyft down to Cannery Row. Parking is very limited but we found street parking about a block up past the Enterprise. read more

I live close and I frequently visit here. The staff is amazing. With all that is going on and restaurant staff is in short supply everyone is doing their best. As everything is opening back up people don't understand that hospitality workers are in short supply. Ignorance by most people is what is hurting businesses. Customers come in and expect it to be back to normal. I have lived here all my life and seeing so many places close it breaks my heart. Understand one thing. This hotel is located 2 blocks from beach with a view of the whole bay. There is only 9 employees for this whole hotel and they are all doing great. Before you judge, ask yourself this. Am I grateful that I am able to even go on a vacation while hospitality staff is overwhelmed and overworked? I love this place and support them. Hotel 1110 provided a quick and lovely getaway. I would've given this 3.5 stars but some of the grievances are not the fault of the hotel. What's good: - hotel staff: front desk to restaurant staff were kind and very attentive - rooftop lounge: good good and drink - complimentary full service breakfast - conveniently located to downtown (5-10 min drive) - adult only -ample and safe street parking - cleaning service was a plus considering many hotels are opting out of cleaning rooms daily due to COVID Wish it could be different: - on a busy street which means way too much traffic noise we asked to change rooms towards the back of the hotel which helped a little - thin infrastructure = people upstairs from us sounded like their were galloping all day and night - breakfast timing: if you're a late riser like us it would've been nice to have a room service or an option to pick up food to go to eat in our room; It would've even better if they had a coffee machine in our rooms... I've stayed at cheaper hotels and it's always an accommodation in a room read more
