Amazing night sleep. Wonderful people working there. Dee Dee and Ann were over the top kind. Thank you for letting us take our service dog Glenda!!

A super cute hotel, with old style charm. The rooms were very roomy, and clean, and comfortable. I loved the fireplace (they give you a log at the front desk when you check in), and I also loved the decor. The location is super convenient, and within walking distance of the old fisherman's wharf, which has a lot of restaurants, and was decorated for the holidays. They also have a complimentary breakfast in the mornings starting at 8am. Would recommend this place, for sure.

Clean, confortable, and convenient. Located in Old Town Monterey, Merritt House Hotel is a lovely find! It's pricey, as are all things here, but it is child-friendly and quiet. The gardens are spectacular. The complementary breakfast includes fresh-baked muffins and other simple fare are served in a lovely nook off the garden - lovely! It is a short walk to the bus and trolley stops. There are a plethora of small business restaurants and serivces in the immediate area. Of course, all of Monterey is within reach from here. We enjoyed our visit here very much, and we shall return again in future! The staff here - from the desk ladies to the chamber maids - are all welcoming and helpful. Top notch service!

The hotel is an historic building and the styles of the room are old school but it was something different that I want to experience. It's a 5-8 min to the pier and 5-15mins to the downtown restaurants. The parking is small, they do give a complimentary breakfast, and there is an ice machine where the parking is. It is a fee parking per night and parking is tight if you have a bigger vehicle. ISSUE: I booked my reservations on Hotels.com but for some reason my reservation didn't show up on their system and it was already paid. The staff were able to give me an upgrade which was nice and I was told by one of the staff that I will not be charge and they will take care of the whole issue with Hotels.com I was told I was only going to be charge for the parking when I gave my credit card info. Then I got a surprise charge on my bank account, I was charge another payment from the Merritt House Hotel. I had to call them to give me clarification of why I was charge and then I am told they refunded it back to me but need to wait 7 business days. I would gave it 4 stars but until I see that refund.

Stayed there Dec 21-24 last year. Everything seems to be great at first. Didn't bother letting anyone clean our room since we were only going to stay there for 3 nights. I made sure the 'Privacy Please' plaque is hooked on the knob. But on Dec 23, someone came in and cleaned out our beddings, added new towels and etc. When I came in, the first thing I saw was a round not so light red patch on the carpet in front of the bathroom sink (I have a way of seeing things that usually people don't see when it comes to things) where it wasn't there when we first checked in the first/2nd night. What bothered me was, after a long hike, all I wanted was to be warm in bed, elevating my tired legs. While unfolding the sheets, these 2 red blotches of blood caught my eye. Good thing, where I was laying, my hands did not touch it. It was so gross, unsanitary, so unsafe and unsatisfactory. I pulled it out and left in on the floor. Yes, I told the front desk.

That's my husband on the very top step of the ladder doing the hotel's job!

It was so cold in this place (even with the fireplace going) that night 1, I could barely sleep. The door has zero seal around it. You could see right out. The alarm detector began beeping due to the battery. There are no phones in the room so when you walk down to the 'lobby' there's a number to call. Long story short, my husband climbed the ladder (to the very top step I might add) to fix it. Night 2, we had the loudest neighbors and again, no phone to call to complain so not much sleep that night either. When we finally did, the neighbors were up before 8am talking so loud again. No microwave in room either which is a huge inconvenience. Just an all around bad experience and for the price they charged, all they wanted to do was remove the parking fee!! STILL awaiting a response from management.

    Rooms are nice.

First time visiting this location and my family and feel in love with this place. Small but centrally located & walking distance to everything ie.. Wharf, The Centre, aquarium, Cannery Row etc... Rooms are very nice, clean & quiet, restrooms are spacious, outdoor patio is very nice, free continental breakfast is awesome, cable TV & free WiFi are great. No issues with parking and the free trolley stop is literally across the street. Employees of this location are to be commended for their outstanding service. You folks are GREAT! Highly recommend this location during your visit to Monterey Bay

Roach motel...with a side of bad attitude. Substitute ants for roaches and you get the idea. Our room appeared to be infested with ants. Told the lady at the front desk (the sister of the owner) and she got angry and defensive that I was bringing this to her attention. By her response, I get the feeling that this is a known problem that many other people have complained about. Her solution was that we find a room in a different establishment. Fair enough, we did. Obviously we didn't want to stay in an infested room at a motel with management that doesn't think infestation is a problem. On the way out she told me that she called the exterminator. Hopefully that means no one else will experience this, but rather than risk waking up with ants in your bed, I suggest you stay somewhere else.

When we decided to extend our stay by an extra night, our harbor-view room wasn't available for the additional night, but they went out of their way to make it work so we didn't have to switch rooms. We really appreciated that! Parking was also very reasonably priced at $25, especially compared to other hotels in the area. The room itself was spacious, the bed was very comfortable (firm, just how we like it), and the harbor view was absolutely perfect. We were a little concerned after reading reviews about the sea lions being noisy, but we actually loved hearing them from the balcony! Once the balcony door was closed, we couldn't hear them at all, and they never disturbed our sleep. One of our favorite perks was the complimentary binoculars available to guests--they were a fun touch for watching the harbor. And don't miss the sunrise from the fourth-floor rooftop terrace--it's absolutely beautiful! There were just a few minor things that could be improved. The hotel only has one elevator, and it can be quite slow during busy times. We also wish the freshly baked cookies were available throughout the day. They were put out around 3:00 p.m., but they disappeared almost immediately because they were so popular. When we arrived, our room temperature was around 78°F. We called the front desk to ask about the A/C and were told someone would come up. Security arrived and explained that the hotel doesn't have air conditioning, so the options are to use the fan or open the balcony door. It would have been helpful if the front desk had shared that information when we called. We left the screened balcony door open while we were out the next day, and the room cooled down nicely. The only other thing we wished the room had was a microwave. Overall, these were very minor issues compared to everything we loved about our stay. The location, views, comfortable rooms, and outstanding customer service made for a wonderful experience.

This was our second time staying in Monterey and I had been looking forward to staying at this hotel someday. It was everything I imagined and more! The service was exceptional from the valet to the bellhop to registration and restaurant staff. We are also IHG elite members and we were given a room upgrade with a thoughtful card and gift for our anniversary. Our room was facing the ocean on Cannery Row with a balcony. It was a very nice, spacious and clean room with alot of thoughtful attention like providing refillable water bottles, robes and an amazing Nespresso machine. There was also a wine bar and snacks available for purchase. The hotel had a wonderful scent throughout and we enjoyed walking through the ocean vibes staircase featuring a jellyfish. Definitely look for that! We loved having our anniversary dinner at The C Restaurant, but that will be another well earned review on it's own. However, we did have two negative experiences, one was that we waited a bit too long for our car at the valet once and there was an accidental spa charge on our receipt when checking out. I still gave them 5 stars because they rectified it right away and even removed the valet charge for us, which was much appreciated. I would love to come back to this hotel someday to bring my parents and we hope you love it too!!

The hotel itself is beautiful, and the ocean views from our room were a huge highlight. The room was very clean and thoughtfully equipped with everything we needed and more. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and had a warm charm that made it easy to relax after a day of exploring the city. One of the highlights of our stay was how the hotel carried such a unique atmosphere and history. It wasn't just a place to sleep--it felt like part of the adventure. Between the ocean views, cozy spaces, and local touches, it really captured the spirit of Monterrey. And then there were the ghost stories. Whether you're a believer or just love a good tale, they add an extra layer of fun and mystery to the stay. If you're someone that believes (or not), go to the front desk and ask for the "book". It had 78 pages of first hand accounts of unexplained happenings from guests. We had a very small moment ourselves, while I was sharing what I uncovered about the ghosts with my significant other in the morning, suddenly the bathroom light just turned on. Nobody was around and they do run on sensors. Not a significant event but certainly was well timed. Overall, Hotel Del Monte struck the perfect balance between comfort, history, and a touch of playful spookiness. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting Monterrey that has access to a military installation--especially if you're looking for more than just a hotel, but a memorable experience.

The interior is also gorgeous, and it's amazing how well they've kept up the history of this place. We stayed in a queen suite, which was very outdated. Because of how old the buildings are, there is no A/C, which is typically fine, but we happened to be there on one of the warmest days of the year. Our room had an odd smell to it, and the amenities are pretty minimal. However, we expected this due to the age of the building. Our only negative was that we were given the first room next to the entrance and stairwell, which was not fun to hear folks stomping up and down the stairs and slamming the doors. On Friday morning, several people we knew were awoken by the "active shooter drill" announcement at 8:00am. I understand this will happen on a naval academy base, but I wish we were warned about upon check-in just so we were aware and not startled in the morning.
