From day 1 over the phone the customer service was amazing!!! Upon arrival it was a bit uncomfortable, strange feeling. TV was not working, no instructions either. The room was dusty and dirty as if no one had previously cleaned the room. There was trash in the closet and under the bed filthy and not to mention the bathroom was very dirty. I had to run the water for the longest in order to get hot water, this I understand being that it's an old building but it would have been good to know before hand. I gave the reviews a benefit of the doubt but I will not return. I did mention this at checkout but of course, the maintenance people were to blame for this. When my wife and I checked in on Thursday, September 4, we were charmed by the desk clerk, Wendy, and the presentation in the lobby. Making our way upstairs we were glad to have packed lightly. Once on the second floor we each commented how warm and stuffy the hallway was. We found our way to room 14 and were greeted by a nicely finished room with furniture that didn't exactly go with the historic look of the rest of the hotel. Immediately upon turning on the air conditioner we were surrounded by a racket that was deafening. Later, we tried tuning the television to a broadcast station but found that the Amazon remote did not work. The batteries were dead. Plus, there were no instructions on how to use the two remotes and there was no phone in the room to call the desk with questions. Sitting on the bed revealed that the mattress was saggy and uncomfortable and the foot was slightly raised higher than the head resulting in very stiff legs when getting up in the middle of the night. And the repeated cycling of the AC woke us both constantly. Even the FAN setting was extremely loud. The bottom line? We had the worst night in a hotel we have ever had, anywhere. It is unforgivable that the HVAC unit is there in the room with absolutely NO sound insulation around it. read more

We booked the place last minute on Airbnb and I was very pleasently surprised. We brought our one year old with us too. The front desk was so nice and friendly, she even helped us with our stuff to up the stairs since you have a lot with a kiddo haha. The room was very clean and child friendly. My stay at The Burgess Hotel was so amazing, a review can't even begin to articulate my stay. I was so happy that I got to personally speak to the owner and try to in so many words describe what a lovely experience she has created for me. The place is small, intimate, full of history and makes you feel like home. To me it felt like I was going upstairs to my own room to just relax. And if you so happen to peep your head out of your door or wander the hall upstairs and you see someone, it really just feels like they are part of your family. My husband and I came to stay with intentions of releasing our worldly stresses. We are very fond of traveling and seeing new and historic landmarks and by doing this it really helps us ground ourselves from our busy and emotional lives. Our stay, the prices, the people and the town did not disappoint us whatsoever. The lobby serves fresh fruit picked from their orchard and since it's summer, there was an abundance of peaches and let me tell you.. you CANNOT find fuzzy peaches like that in the grocery store. I urge anyone that is even the slightest bit interested in checking this place out, book it fast because it's most of the time filled. I felt so lucky we got a chance to stay. Let me start this off by saying if you can't climb stairs well, or can't climb many stairs, this place is not for you. There didn't appear to be an elevator and all rooms are on the 2nd floor. The woman at the front desk was pleasant and got us checked in quickly. The parking situation is okay, free street parking right in front of the hotel and there was always space available whenever we left and came back. There are a few breakfast places within walking distance, we ate at Willie's Cafe and couldn't recommend it enough. The food was great and service was too. If you're doing a later check in like us (we arrived around 7:45pm) be prepared to find no dinner options open except fast food and The Wakehouse, which is a bar. We opted to go to the bar for dinner and I'm so glad we did, because their food was fantastic and the bartender was friendly. Now onto the room: We stayed in room 1, which is roughly the size of a small household bedroom. A desk, mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, bed, and ensuite bathroom are in there. The room was very clean with free wifi and a roku smart tv. In the room, there isn't a central AC but there is a window AC Unit, which took forever to cool the room down. It was 98 degrees in the room when we first arrived, and it took 4 hours to get it to 72 and another 2 hours to get to 68 where we had it set. There is a ceiling fan, but it's connected to the light and you can't turn the light off and leave the fan on. If the fan was on, that might have cooled the room down quicker but we wanted to keep the room dark to help it cool down as well. I would recommend the hotel set the AC a few hours before check in so the rooms have time to cool down before guests arrive. Lots of pillows on the bed and a relatively comfy mattress, but My husband and I were afraid to move around too much in the bed because it felt like it was about to come crashing to the floor. There is a lack of usable plugs in the room, but it was just the two of us with phones and Apple watches so we made it work on a rotation. The walls seemed to be soundproof because we couldn't hear our next door neighbor in our room, but when we stepped into the hall we could hear his tv blasting. We could however hear every time someone opened and closed their doors in hallway, and the street noise was very loud with loud motors and cars blaring their horns at all hours of the night, so that made for a sleepless night. Not to mention the train that came through at 4:30 am and sounded their whistle for a good 30 seconds to make sure EVERYONE could hear them. The bathroom: Our bathroom had a very short shower head. I'm 5'7" and had to duck to be able to wash my hair. My husband is 6'1" and was squatting in the shower to get water all over his body. Along with that came the hot water running out after 5 minutes, I was still waiting for my conditioner to finish setting when it went luke-warm to cold. It also seems like the hot water is connected to the toilets flushing because it would dip and go icy for a few seconds and then go back to warm. The light in there also activated the VERY loud fan. We kept the light off the entire time and just used the light coming in through the window to see. Overall, there were more cons than pros for us so we would likely not stay here again, but if you're a heavy sleeper or of smaller stature, a lot of this may not apply to you. read more

Normally I won't even waste time leaving a review for sub-par or mediocre service. This review is very necessary. I booked my stay here at hotel burgess on a third party app. When I first arrived, the front desk agent(also the owner) was outside the front door rubbing the arm of some guy who's supposed to be fixing their outside sign. She told me to be patient she'll be inside shortly. After a couple minutes I tell her it's been a long day and I'd like to check in. She immediately comes in. A small wait is no big deal. After she charged my card, she recommended I upgrade suites. She quoted me a total of $110 pre-tax for the upgraded suite, tried to have me sign a paper that said it would be 120 pre-tax for the room. As I'm asking for clarification before she charged me again, she starts reaching through the gate to hastily snatch MY receipt and tore the paper she handed to me with the upgrade information out of my hand. Very unprofessional. To top it all off, I requested she void the transactions, and she was trying to tell me she couldn't void it, but she could give me a room for that price. At this point I demanded my card back and said I'd be disputing the claims. I'm asking for my card back, she proceeded to gaslight me, saying she didn't have my card. I pulled my wallet out and she pointed at the other 3 bank cards I have, none of which are the card I used to purchase the room. I honestly think she was on something.. booze, drugs, im not sure. I will never forget way she treated me last night. Simply unacceptable. This was definitely the worst customer service I've ever experienced in all of my travels, and by the owner no less?? Needless to say, I drove to the holiday inn in Selma and their room was just what the doctor ordered. I felt the need to leave this review in case anyone else is thinking this spot may be a great find. Spend your money elsewhere, retain your peace. read more

I lost my driver's license as I was leaving the hotel, it was just no where to be found. Luckily the housekeeper was able to find it after l had left. The owner called me right away and offered to mail it back to me. I truly appreciate her personal efforts and their customer service even after I had already left. I finally tried this hotel since it was just a mile away from my Mom, who I was visiting. I will never be back. The woman at the front desk was so unprofessional to the couple checking in before me, and then again with me. She's an owner. Her small son was creating chaos in the office and she had no problem with that. She forgot to give me back my credit card and ID, and when I asked her for them, she just said "you have your key, you are all checked in". I had to ask three times. The doors to the rooms are very old and drafty so they don't keep out any hallway noise. The rooms are bare bones; you get one hand towel and one washcloth for a king size room. No spare TP. No lotion. No kleenex. Oh, and no elevator, so please don't stay here if you are disabled or otherwise unable to take your suitcases up a long flight of stairs. read more

This place is okay. Not horrible but also not great. If it weren't for the fact that every other hotel in the area was 200+ a night we probably would've made other arrangements. The first night we went to take showers before bed and to our surprise the water was ice cold. I op'd out and thought maybe I would try my luck in the morning which lucky enough for me I actually had hot water. The second night we tried again for the water and it running for a good ten minutes before we were able to get a decent temperature. This place is LOUD. I've literally stayed in hotel rooms in Vegas and got better nights of sleep. I'm assuming it's the owners child that is running around this place wild but the stomping and screaming just does not spot. As we were walking to our room I was actually hit with a ball the child was throwing in the hallways. To top it off we could literally hear someone snoring all morning. The rooms had no shading to keep the room dark what so ever. Hopefully your and early riser because once the suns comes up you'll probably be up too. Located in sleepy town Reedley, California, this beautiful bed and breakfast is true to its word when it comes to high quality service and comfort. This historic building houses several antiques and collectibles dating back to about the early 1900's. The Victorian era deco adds to the hotel's beauty. The rooms are located on the second floor of the building. Finding street parking was easy. PROS Hotel Burgess has its own cafe which will expand (hopefully soon) into a Bar and Grill. The cafe serves Starbucks and Seattle Best. Guests have the luxury to order breakfast the night before and it will be ready for you at the cafe the following morning. The room itself was very cozy and comfortable. The bed was so comfortable; I woke up late the following day. I found the bathroom roomy. The staff was so friendly and accommodating! I felt right at home there. CONS: The lack of a mini fridge in our room prevented me from bringing home leftovers from dinner the night before. I also found that the hours to the café were too short: 6am to 9pm. Because of the antiques, the hallway had a sort of musty smell to it. However, it was not overwhelming. It was a faint and delicate odor. Overall, I enjoyed my stay. If you're in the area or passing by and need a comfortable, interesting place to spend the night(s), I highly recommend staying at Hotel Burgess. read more

This is my third stay here. I've stayed in a Queen room, a king room and the Presidential. I will share some of the pictures from the rooms I've stayed. We have enjoyed staying in each room. I love the fact this hotel is locally owned and the people care about their customers. The rooms are all comfortable and relaxing. My friends and I booked hotel burgess for an overnight stay while we visited Hobbs grove. We booked a reservation on the 25th of September ahead of our event tonight. I checked in and paid and it appeared the woman at the front desk was impaired to some degree but she got us checked in and she asked where we are going I informed her Hobbs grove. She gave us a key and up we went to our room-room 16. My Other friends checked in after us when they arrived in reedley. The woman informed my friends that their friends in room 16 did not pay and that she went into our room to see if our stuff was there and that she was going to throw out my belongings and list the room as vacant. One of my friends left the hotel to come inform me as we sat to eat at the drunk donkey that they were going to list my room vacant. I left the restaurant and when I walked into the hotel the front desk woman seemed shocked to see me. And she stated oh I know you paid and my friends said that's not what you had just told us. And she said she never claimed to list our room vacant and that she has my receipt (she had a handful of receipts) I said yes exactly I did pay and I even have it on my transactions on my card. She was goes well let me see it. (Like she didn't believe me And although she said she knew I paid she still wanted to see my cellphone). And she said "oh yeah uh huh you did pay) she then denied she said anything about me paying to my friends and I asked her if she went into my room she said no I didn't. She then said The reason she had mentioned anything was because she didn't have a receipt because I paid with a debit card and I said no you have your own receipt for my transaction in your hand you just showed it to me. And she said look we are a private business and I said what does that have to do with anything? I didn't pay with a debit card I paid with a credit card. Eventually she just called my friends liars that they had made the whole thing up. She then said we did not have reservations made in advance of which I showed her our email and she said there's nothing she was going to do for us and asked us if we wanted the rooms or not. I told her give me a minute I need to cool off and so does my friends. I wanted to go upstairs to check my room and belongings. As we went up the stairs she shouted even if we didn't want the room there would be no refund very crazed as she followed us up the stairs. I walked into our room and the AC had been turned off and our items had been moved so we knew she was in our room. I no longer felt comfortable and we all grabbed our things and left the hotel. My sister came to help me grab my things and the woman was shouting at her she needed to pay. I wouldn't recommend this hotel ever as long as this unhinged individual is working for them. I am going to try and get ahold of the owners. My friends and I deserve a whole refund as services were not rendered and it clearly was an unsafe environment with this woman. She did not appear to have a clear mind and that erratic behavior was a sign we were not safe and secure as she would be the one supervising the hotel. read more

My boyfriend and I were in town for a wedding and booked this place on Hotels.com. Upon arrival, the front desk attendant told us that they gave us a complimentary upgrade from Room 2, to Room 6. She let us know that they also had an upgrade available for Rooms 10 or 12. She welcomed us to look at either if we were interested. The only difference was the bed size. We opted for our "complimentary" upgraded Room 6, because we didn't want to spend any more than the already paid $80/night rate. The bed was comfortable, no complaints there, there seemed to be some bugs in the shower when I went to turn it on, which was weird. Definitely ran the water for a couple of minutes before actually getting in. Just like any other hotel, the shampoo and conditioner are low quality, it smelled funny too. I would suggest they change that, because it made my hair smell, weird. But the soap was really the thing that bugged me. It claimed to be "exfoliating" however, it just plain hurt when using it. LOL Um, I posted some pictures of the place and particularly the ones of the hall ways. Honestly I felt as though as soon as I stepped out of my room door (Room 6) there was going to be a ghost with a knife and an eye patch running after me from the end of the hallway. It was pretty scary. The décor is just as the other reviews started, from the early 1900's and most of them were for sale. There was an antique baby stroller, with baby clothes on it, and my mind couldn't help but assume it was from a deceased child. But hey, I watch WAY too many scary movies. Haha Overall, the place was good. I don't think I'll ever be staying in this city ever again. I wish the place the best of luck! read more

Staying here was an overall good experience. Found the place easily enough and parking was not an issue at all. Room 17 was sunny and just right for two people. My favorite things has to be the comfortable bed and fast wifi. The building felt safe. The only reason for the three stars is because the bathroom only had one bar of soap and no hair dryer. I'm sure, had we asked, the staff would have let us have an extra soap, but that's not the point. The irony is that I hardly ever use a hair drier, but needed one this time! I will add that the peppermint scented shampoo smelled yummy! All in all, we would stay again, but this time pack our own soap and hair drier. read more

We needed a last minute accommodation due to a family emergency and stumbled across this little place on air b and b. The location was perfect for what we needed. The hotel itself is BEAUTIFUL. Room was nicely appointed and the bed was comfortable. The Netflix on TV was a nice touch. Wendy at the front desk was very nice and accommodating even with all my questions. Full disclosure, as I read through all the previous reviews, this hotel is from the turn of the century. It is not a Holiday Inn. If you want a Holiday Inn I am sure you can locate one in any town USA and be happy with your standard accommodation and bright white hallways. This place is a piece of history that you can step into for a few nights. It has been brought back to life and is obviously well loved and cared for by the owners. I loved our short stay at this beautiful, family owned business. Everything is updated and the atmosphere is warm, giving a touch of 1800's luxery. As a business owner, I can see when businesses are loved and this business is definitely that. I can't help but walk into a place and notice certain attributes about a room (sometimes to a fault), being a owner of a cleaning company. Even the baseboards were spotless, as well as the sheets being whiter than I've ever seen in a hotel room. Wendy was so sweet. We were in Chico and the swedes fire had just hit east of our neighboring City so traffic was insane...long story short we arrived way later than expected and she was extremely kind although it was in the middle of the night. Hotel Burgess is the best thing in the area. I haven't had such a pleasant rooming experience before. Our trip was definitely made special by staying here and I will definitely stay here again. It is not a B&B, it is a hotel and you're treated like guests. I looked around the lobby and said, "I can't believe this is in Reedley!" I was hesitant to stay here because I have an aversion for antique filled B&Bs. Thank goodness I was very pleasantly surprised! The antiques are used tastefully and the decor is fresh. There is no clutter, and there were a few things I would buy. The rooms are small but the ceilings are so high that it makes even the smallest rooms airy. The linens are nice (especially for an affordable hotel). I liked the colors used and I loved that there was a little bit of contemporary flair in what could have been a Victorian nightmare. It's cool that they allow you to walk around and look at all the rooms that are available. I know that I will be back and I plan to stay in a different room each time. If you're sensitive to noise then you should try to stay on the East facing side of the hotel. Reedley is a very quiet town and you won't hear street noise, or anything after about 9pm. In comparison with other places in the area, Hotel Burgess is cheaper (it is the cheapest if you get the lowest rated room; $65 on a Fri night). It is by far the cleanest. It felt safe and when my man and I crept in around 2am it felt like I was walking down the halls of my childhood home. read more

My fiance and I stayed here for Thanksgiving and Black Friday. I booked the room on BedandBreakfast.com because I could use MyPoints and a 10% off coupon. The room rate ended up being very slightly more expensive than a certain motel in town that I had stayed at least year for Christmas. The owner upgraded us to a king-size room for free, which was super cozy, had a flat screen TV and cable! The room was very clean except under the bed had some small pieces of debris. The owner was very friendly and alerted us when my fiance's car got a flat tire while parked outside the hotel. I am officially giving this place 4 stars but it should really be 3.5 Cute/quaint hotel in a perfect location....perfect because we were attending a wedding that was 10 minutes away. Downtown Reedley did not have much to offer, that's just a fact and totally not the hotels fault. It seems they do offer tours? I don't know of what though. Very clean and nice rooms. Plasma TV and an A/C is all I need and this hotel had it. It was a bit small, but how much space do you need in a room to sleep in? You're not gonna throw a hotel-room party in there! I didn't mind the size at all for the price ($50/night). I also really liked their shampoos/lotions, they smelled good! The staircase and overall decor was really cool and wooden. My bf was totally creeped out by the decor of the place (old and antique-ish) so much so that in the middle of us dozing off he said "Silvia, I am scared." I busted out laughing because I was totally fine. I like old historic kind of places and it was CLEAN and that's all that really matters to me. I am more creeped out by the town, sorry Reedley. read more

I stayed for several nights at the Hotel Burgess recently and really enjoyed my stay. It's a charming little hotel that's more like a bed and breakfast, IMHO. The hotel is a renovated rooming house from 1912, and things were done just a tad different then than today's Holiday Inn/Sheraton/Best Western cookie-cutter style of hotel design. While my room was smaller than I might have found at a chain, I don't take my vacations in my hotel room. It's a place to sleep and safely store my stuff while I'm out enjoying things like Sequoia National Forest or checking out local antique dealers. But, different strokes for different folks, eh? The rooms are available for viewing (if not occupied) and the hotel and rooms are decorated with antiques - many of which are available to buy. The room was comfortable and pleasant. All the rooms have flat-screen HDTVs, new bathrooms, and wireless internet service. The breakfasts I had were really nice - everything freshly made, right down to the O'Brien potatoes made from freshly chopped potatoes and herbs. The two young women who work at the Hotel Burgess (and the owner, Michael) were all really helpful and nice to deal with. I also loved Reedley - everyone was friendly and nice and life moves at a much more normal pace, IMHO. The only issue I had (which has nothing to do with the hotel) is the amount of traffic passing by in the late evening - one night, I believe a rally of motorcycles went by. But that all seemed to wind up by 10:00 or thereabouts and, after that, things were quiet. I loved staying in the area and will return. And I'll stay at Hotel Burgess when I do. read more

The hotel is so adorable. The staff of 3 that we saw everyday was very friendly and helped us with any questions we had. It's probably the closest you can get to the Sequoia National Park without actually staying inside the Park. The town is tiny, and lined with farmland of corn, grapes, and lots of other trees. The house cat is very friendly and doesn't care if you walk by him or stop and give him pets. Every room is designed differently and we loved that if the room wasn't in use, the door was open for us to look in. The whole place is like a giant antique shop as everything in there is for sale. We stayed in room 18, it had a perfect king bed, flat screen inside a beautiful cabinet, lots of space, two sky lights (one in room, one in bathroom), big closet, and great size bathroom with two sinks. My only disappointment was the shower. The shower itself was a standard size, the glass doors made it seem a little small though, and the shower head had practically NO pressure. I have thick hair so it was really hard to for me to even rinse out the shampoo, which made my showers twice as long. The AC is a little tricky though. When it was on at night I'd have to cover with a sheet, but once it turned off I almost immediately got hot and had to throw the sheet off me. Tried having the fan on one night but it was the same outcome. I guess the place just retains heat very well since it was about 100 during the day. My boyfriend does like that they are green-friendly and have energy efficient light bulbs and a 1.6 gallon toilet instead of the wasteful 3-5 gallon toilets that other hotels have. They also point out that a lot of water is wasted washing clean towels and ask that you use your towels more than once, which we were fine with. The comforter on the bed was possibly the softest, fluffiest, best thing we've ever felt. We wanted to take it home with us. The café downstairs was closed though, we wish we would have known that before booking a Bed and BREAKFEST, but they are renovating the whole place, so it's understandable. It did let us discover possibly the best café ever, just a 20 sec walk from the hotel. Main Street Café, let me repeat, Main-Street-Café. If you stay here, you HAVE to go to this Café. They open at 6am, have great breakfast, lunch, dessert, everything. We only wished we discovered it the first night there so we could have had even more from the menu. The fruit was the freshest we've had, probably because it's grown right down the street! Both the Café and Hotel have the same, old-town, welcome feel to it. We were very sad to leave and will defiantly be staying here again when we visit Sequoia. read more

This shit deserves no stars. When we first arrived to our rooms we noticed something small like our carpets were dirty. Then slowly started to see so many nasty things. They claimed to have cleaned it but we can tell they haven't had a guest in a while to clean it. We found cigarettes on the window pane, cum stains on our bed, mold in the toilet that looked like bugs. Period blood (so we think) on the beds as well. Bag of chips in the cabinet and our trash cans were FILLED! How are you going to claim you clean these rooms after every guest when it's so obvious you don't. Motels were cleaner than this. I wouldn't recommend nor book a room here again read more

I arrived Friday Night, Not knowing what I might find. I had heard so much over the past few years about this Hotel place. What I found was a great surprise. Remodeled, Clean, Quiet, Roomy and very reasonably priced hotel. I could walk were a wanted and the streets were so nice in Reedley. I wish I could give an accurate review. The website is designed by a genius. The lobby looks immense on the website. The lobby is indeed beautiful but shockingly smaller than expected. The lobby is as far as we got. The very sweet lady at the desk asked if we knew it only had a bathtub and not a shower. Three knee surgeries later bathtubs are not for me. She canceled our reservation at no charge but our weekend get away was canceled too so we headed toward home. Make sure you call and confirm the amenities that are important to you. read more

We loved this place! On a road trip and not wanting to stay at the freeway fleabags, we took a chance and drove a few extra miles off the freeway (maybe 10), and couldn't have been happier. The owners were awesome, the place was immaculate and had been lovingly restored and updated with really nice modern furnishings. There were some decent restaurants within walking distance. I know this place is like living museum, but I seriously couldn't get over how creepy this place was. The hallway, the lobby, the decor, the paintings -- all of it, CREEPY. It felt like I was going down on the Titanic for a second. When I walked upstairs, I found that the hallway was adorned with little antiques, some even having their own price tag. The rooms are nice, but your cheapest room (set at $50) will allow you as much space as a college-size single dorm room. The bathroom is nice, though. Everything is practically brand new, or well-maintained, at least. The flat-panel TVs are a nice touch, too. Oh, one more note: the doors aren't that sound proof, so you can hear when ppl clock-in for the night. Oh Reedley... never again... read more

The hotel was really made me feel right at home, there are rare on display or for sale, I'm not from the area but the guy at the front desk was really helpful. Very up to date the room had flat screens. read more
