Traveled to Catalina for a pre-wedding celebration and stayed at Hotel Metropole. We couldn't be happier. We stayed in a mini-suite, which was lovely, spacious, and immaculate. In addition to the fantastic accommodations, the staff were great! They were kind, courteous, and went beyond to make us feel welcome. The location is in the heart of town, close to Descanso Beach and all the activity, but you wouldn't know that from the tranquility of the rooms. The rooftop spa with the ocean backdrop was just perfect. We've definitely found our go-to hotel. This is hands down the best hotel in town!!! read more

one word AMAZING!! Right in the center of Avalon. Vons around the corner and plenty of places to eat and drink walking distance. The rooms are beautiful! We got one with a jacuzzi which was huge and worked perfectly! The view from our balcony was beautiful! Only downside is that the hotel has no pool but the beach is walking distance and the room could use a full length mirror but none the less the room was perfect. When we come back we will be staying here again! Delia kept our room in prestine condition every time we left, and Alicia at the front desk was super friendly and knowledgeable as to where to go and what to do! read more

First time staying at Hotel Metropole for a birthday getaway with my husband & infant son and it did not disappoint! It's located directly across the street from the water and is in perfect proximity and walking distance to everything in Avalon. Asia had wonderful customer service and got us checked in early at 9 am as soon as we got off the Catalina Express. She also upgraded us for free to a larger room with a fireplace and incredible ocean & hillside views. We were given a complimentary crib to use for our baby which really came in handy as well! The room was clean, large and updated. Although amenities within the hotel are currently shutdown due to Covid, we had an amazing experience overall. Our boat ride home ended up getting cancelled because of bad weather and Asia graciously gave us a "stranded rate" for our extra unexpected night that we had to stay. This is my go-to hotel now every time I come to Catalina Island! read more

Horrible, rude, lazy front desk staff . JUST AWFUL! I am writing this review from the hotel now. Although the hotel is nice; at $2300 for 6 nights I did not expect to receive Motel 6 level customer service a the front desk. I am here on a much needed vacation as I work very hard. Vacations are for relaxing and enjoying not running around town trying to chase down the vending machine guy in the local post office. The drink machine in this hotel is not working, instead of the hotel staff placing an "out of order" sign on the broken machine they allow guest to use it and lose their money. Now my frustration is not related to the $2.25 that I lost in the drink machine. After all, I paid $2300 what's writing off $2.25. It is the manner in which the front desk staff handled situation. Instead of refunding the money to me directly at the front desk they instructed me, in a rude condescending tone, go to the post office to find the guy who owns the vending machine. Ummm I am on vacation, I shouldn't have to put in the effort to run around town to chase down some guy to retrieve a refund that could have been given at the front desk. I am here to relax and recharge. I paid a substantial amount of money so that I could be pampered not to spend my vacation running around town to chase down the drink machine guy. I have stayed at plenty of hotels on various continents and this is by far the absolute worst customer service I have received thus far. A note to management, your guests work very hard for the money we pay to you to stay at Hotel Metropole. The least your front desk staff could do is pretend to appreciate our patronage by being courteous, polite and capable of rectifying basic incidents as we could easily choose to stay somewhere else. Hotel Metropole was a very pleasant place to stay. I got the special they offered for midweek stays which is 2 roundtrip Catalina Express ferry vouchers, 1 night stay in one of their deluxe rooms, and continental breakfast for $273 including tax. The room was really nice. We checked in and got settled and went out for our tours for the day, when we came back..our bed was made, our room was clean and they even left chocolates on our pillows. :) Had a great time and excited to tell all my friends about this hotel. :) read more

If you are looking for a no frills place to stay with clean rooms and comfy beds this is it. The rooms are small, but very well appointed. Don't expect much from the free breakfast or you will be disappointed. Try and not get a room above the street because the noise from those gas powered golf carts will be a clear distraction. We spent the first night of our Wedding Anniversary at Hotel Catalina and didn't have a lovely experience. Luckily we made our reservation there for only one night. We ended up walking just across the street and came upon Hotel Metropole. We spent the whole weekend in the guest rooms, had our reception in the house and on the balcony (catered by the impeccable Zest Catering), and even hosted a farewell brunch at The Beach House on the last day. I love massage espeically deep tissue, they did very well on deep massage. Free breakfast is ok, no complains. Room is good too, the bed is very comfortable. I m so happy I went for two nights. My husband and I spent our anniversary here and had a great experience. The hotel was beautiful, the staff was friendly and very helpful. We took advantage of a great spa package and were so glad we did. My husband said it was the best massage he's ever had. After checking out I realized I lost my prescription glasses and when I called they had found them and already placed them with my checked bags. What a relief! My husband and I just stayed here for a little getaway. The hotel is small but very nice. The room we stayed in was very clean and comfortable. The bed was awesome and made for a great night sleep after exploring the island everyday. Would definitely stay here again. Reservations were made over the phone and it was a breeze. The front desk attendant made my reservations for the hotel and Catalina express boat ride for me by phone and just sent me the details via email. It was fast and very efficient. Beautiful, Relaxing and Effortlessly Comfortable...My husband and I came to Catalina to celebrate New Year's Eve and had a wonderful experience staying at Hotel Metropole. The boutique hotel has a beach elegance that is approachable and welcoming. The hotel guest room's evoke a feeling of being in your own beach house getaway, including a cozy fireplace for those cooler months. I highly recommend getting a room with a water view; nothing quite like waking to the glistening sunshine on the waterfront. Since it was a holiday weekend, we had the opportunity to enjoy New Year's Day brunch at the hotel restaurant, M Restaurant by Zest. The patio was gorgeous, the staff was very warm and the food was next level. From brioche french toast to the eggs florentine, roasted seasonal veggies, a roast with horseradish sauce, mimosa bar and a dessert table to get lost in...we were satisfied with every bite. If you're looking for a lite bite or lunch spot, Cafe M just around the corner from the Hotel is delicious. Highly recommend the Fish Sandwich (local white fish San Dabs) and the Veggie Stack. Both sandwich are are filling and leave you feeling healthy and ready to take on the sights on the island. Rent a golf cart, tour around the island, walk to the botanical garden and when you're done adventuring, take a moment to recharge at the hotel's spa. We've heard great things but didn't have time this trip. Looking forward to a massage and maybe even a yoga class next visit. Carpe Diem! read more

There are many choices for lodging in Avalon but for comfort, space, location and price my wife and I will be selecting Hotel Metropole. We just spent Mother's Day in Avalon attending the Art Deco Ball and enjoying the sites with our kids. My wife and I were engaged on the pier here many years ago and our children just visited the exact spot where our life together began. This hotel was a wonderful and relaxing stay for us. Even the private sun deck jacuzzi in the sky is cool once you get time to hang out for a while. We loved out stay and will be making regular visits going forward. Enjoy, we sure did. Be sure to stay for brunch on Sunday at "M" delicious. BTW: the staff here is wonderful and very helpful. read more

The "free Wi-Fi" never worked. I didn't get the room that I thought I booked because I booked it from booking.com. I was traveling with my mom for her 89th birthday and she doesn't like sharing a bed, so instead of two doubles like it said in my booking, we got one king bed. Then there was the rock in my scone that wasn't a raisin after all, and we never got into the sun deck and jacuzzi area to enjoy what would have been a beautiful view because we always found the gate locked even though several staff members insisted the door was not locked. What else would you call a deadbolt that required a key...and not a room key? For the area though, the hotel is really very nice compared to the other places I've stayed in Catalina. What I spent on one night was more than I've spent on Catalina for a long dive weekend. I think I'd rather go diving. read more

First time staying here at this hotel. The lady at the front desk was very rude when checking me in. Her name was Ingrid. Ingrid is not nice at all. She should not be working the front desk at all. The room were very nice. No robes or slippers in the room like stated they would have for you in your room. Hotel had to change the bedding twice it was not clean. While laying in bed. Housekeeping just unlocked the door in came right in on us. Second day here at the hotel I fell . Staff was not concerned if I was ok at all. No report was made on my fall. They only gave me 4 band- aides for my knee which was bleeding. And is now bruised. The only thing that was great on this trip for relaxation was the staff at the full-service day spa. Which was AMAZING. ROMONA was the lady who did my 90 minute massage . She was very professional and very nice. She is AWESOME. It was truly relaxing listening to music while getting a 90 minute massage. Worth every penny read more

Wow, what an incredible place to stay while in the magical town of Avalon. We had a beautiful room right across the way from the beach, with amazing harbor views from our balcony. The bed was huge and comfortable, the furniture was great, the jacuzzi/tub was so relaxing, and the decor was modern and chic. The staff was really nice and the breakfast every morning was excellent. We loved the cluster of shops on the hotel grounds, especially the cafe and arcade right below our room. Everything in town is a less-than 5-minute stroll away from the hotel, as it is centrally located on the main drag. The 4th-floor rooftop jacuzzi provided great views of the town and the harbor. My wife and I LOVED this place. And about Catalina in general, what a place! Just an hour ferry ride from Long Beach/San Pedro/Newport Beach. Catalina Express offers free round-trip rides on your birthday. Beautiful island with amazing flora and fauna on land and in the sea. Definitely recommend snorkelling and the glass bottom boats. read more

The location was great but their customer service and Courtney with her attitude were THE WORST. She was at the reception when we arrived. We decided to take few days after our wedding to relax but it was hard to do as the room we got was a very noisy room and when we asked to be changed she said NO right away because they were full. Next day at 7 am we asked a very nice lady if we could changed rooms and told her why, and she right away gave us another room which was mysteriously available. Few weeks later we noticed our credit card was charged TWICE! We called and Courtney said a refund was issued and that she had charged twice by mistake. Today we called and she said the refund was made to the WRONG party so they will need to charge for the room again and that they will take care of it and immediately hung up on us. Never got an apology or at the very least a better attitude. We called back to speak to a manager and she refused saying all the managers were on a meeting. If it wasn't for her, we would give this hotel a much better review because the location was perfect but she and her attitude as the first line for customer service was -5 stars. Hope she receives some training in customer service. read more

The location is great because it gives easy access just about anywhere in Avalon with a short walk. The room as well pointed and when you walk in you feel like you want to stay for a while.
