It's about time I posted a review about Hotel Metropole. This is our choice hotel every time my husband & I go to Catalina. The staff is very courteous and the rooms are always clean and very cozy comfortable. The bathroom always has enough towels & complimentary toiletries. Some rooms have a balcony and the last one we stayed at had a fireplace. There's a spa on the rooftop and you get a good view of the beach & ocean. The hotel offers daily complimentary breakfast too. There's even a courtyard where you can go check into a spa for a massage or even get something to eat. There's an amusement center too. Always an enjoyable stay at the Hotel Metropole. Since we always stay for 3 days, my only feedback is if they have daily housekeeping.

Hotel Metropole is a cute little hotel in Avalon. I enjoyed our stay here. We had a deluxe double room with two double beds. The room was spacious, clean, and modern. The beds were comfortable. The room also had a fireplace, a shower/bathtub, TV, and mini fridge. One negative is that the hot tub is really small. It looks like a bathtub and can only fit 4 people. The water level wasn't high and wasn't very hot. They have continental breakfast right outside of the lobby. Our ferry off the island wasn't until around 3pm so the hotel held our bags for us.

Wow! I've stayed a few times in Catalina but I must say I'm very impressed with Hotel Metropole. We booked the room last minute and luckily they still had a few rooms left. When you walk in you'll be greeted by the friendly staff from the porter to the front desk staff. They are very respectful and warm. Shout out to Mike in the front desk for being so accomodating and kind. We arrived a little early but he made sure we were called earlier than the usual check-in. The room we got was Superior double and it's spacious and elegant. There was a fireplace, 2 chairs and small table and also a balcony with a nice view. They also serve continental breakfast and there was a good selection. Up on the 4th floor there is a rooftop hot tub overlooking the ocean. What a nice surprise! Also, if you are celebrating your birthday they will honor a 20 % off discount of the total room price and they might give you a bottle of Sparkling wine! All in all we had a great stay and we will definitely be back. Thank you so much Hotel Metropole!

What an incredible experience. This beach house was perfect for our wedding. The hotel staff went above and beyond, I can't thank Asia and Angela enough Even after we left they found items that were so important and shipped them all the way back to San Diego. Give these ladies a raise!!! Thank you again

The hotel metropole was a home away from home for my birthday weekend in the beginning of June this year. My husband and I checked in on Yelp and received a complimentary bottle of champagne, although when we asked for it, the individual at the front desk had to double check if they were still honoring the coupon, which they did. We were in room 317, which after the fact, I noticed the reviews discussing the generator right outside the room. It was definitely loud when it kicked on, so I don't recommend staying in that room. A spooky encounter: On the first night, in the middle of the night, maybe around 2:45am, I kept feeling a tapping on my back and shoulders and woke up and turned around to ask my husband to stop, only to be faced with my husband in a full 3rd dream snore. In the morning, I let him know and he didn't remember anything. We proceeded to look up the history of the hotel and haunted Santa Catalina, to learn of some people dying in the hotel a loooooooong time ago. Anyways, it was an average, clean and warm hotel with a nice in room electric fire place. Not sure if we will stay here again, but if we did we will ask for one of the rooms that overlook the metropole shops.

We stayed in one of their Ocean Front Mini Suites at the end of December 2024. The room itself had a gorgeous view of the ocean and downtown area and was decently appointed and large. The hotel itself is a 15 minutes walk from the ferry landing and there are no free shuttles offered so you would have to arrange for transportation if you have mobility issues. All the people that I interacted with at the front desk were friendly and accomodating. I understand that the hotel sits on an island and the prices will be higher which is why I would compare it to a similar hotel on Martha's Vineyard and would recommend the following to management: - Please ensure that rooms are clean prior to guests arriving - our bathroom was not cleaned properly if inspected closely - Your mattresses are old and should be changed - Your pillows are terrible (among the worst I've ever seen) - please add feather pillows and offer feather free options to guests - While hardwood floors may be easier to maintain they look cheap and cold without ANY carpet - Reach out to guests prior to arrival if you will be offering free gifts - the free champagne may be great for some but others may prefer something else - Please offer some form of transportation to customers

Omg this hotel is sooooo cute and the room is beautiful and what a gorgeous view of the Avalon harbor!! The check in is in a separate building and you have to get the key then go back to the street and up the stairs. The room is super cute and cozy.

My friend and I decided to take a weekend trip to Catalina and stayed at Hotel Metropole. We had a room with a courtyard view, as the ocean view rooms all only had one bed. It was clean, conveniently located and the staff was friendly. Their VIP wing looked fantastic. I'll definitely stay in one of those rooms next time.

Fire place, painting, medium sized tv, and complimentary Keurig coffee and water bottles.

Last year, Vista and Snug were under the same ownership, which is no longer the case. Snug now has closer affiliation with Hotel Aurora a bit up the hill. Snug is a cozy and charming 6-room inn. There is staff on duty during the day; welcome in-room wine and snacks are provided as well as daily continental breakfast. There is no staff on the premises at night, although someone is on-call. My stay was lovely and somewhat surreal. I visited during the February rains which caused the cancellation of all Catalina Express boats on 2 days during my Avalon visit. This forced guests here for the long Valentines/Presidents Day weekend to leave early or relocate. I ended up being the sole guest for my 2-night visit! And with minimal visitors on the island, evenings were also pretty quiet, despite being right above the main drag (Crescent). Snug does provide earplugs and eye masks if needed. I moved up my arrival date due to the weather and Snug was able to accommodate me, even offering the same room, which was the Santa Catalina room, the inn's "crown jewel" situated on the corner with two large bay windows, one facing Avalon Bay with Casino, Bay and pier views, the other with a built-in window seat facing Sumner and the hills above. All rooms have a fireplace and deep soaking jetted tub. The rooms are not particularly large but are full of charm, coziness and warmth. No robes or slippers, but there were 2 clock/music/alarm machines. Complimentary reusable water bottles are provided; there's a water/ice machine in the hall. The welcome snacks offered were olives, pretzels and high-end nuts (i.e., no peanuts). The continental breakfast was quite ample and includes a small loaf of warm banana bread, yogurt, fresh berries, granola, milk, juice and coffee or tea. You fill out an order slip as to what you want exactly and what time you want it delivered. There are 6 delivery times for the 6 rooms, which of course was not an issue for my stay. There is a common room with a sofa, fireplace and machine for coffee and tea. There is a closet for luggage storage, a public restroom and umbrellas. The front door is open 8-5, key access is needed in the off-hours. Shout-outs to the great staff I met--Jackie, Destiny and especially Johnny at the front desk and housekeeper/breakfast preparer Alicia. Overall a fabulous stay. I usually split my time on the island between Mt Ada and a property "downtown". Snug Harbor has moved to the top of my downtown list!

Had numerous stays at the Inn at Mt Ada and Pavillion over the last decades, but have found that the location of The Pavillion was it's big plus. The main issue over the last twenty years, is the Catalina Island Company taking the Avalon charm out and replacing it int a cash cow. Late in 2024, The Pavillion shut down for an overhaul, didn't reopen until April 1st of 2026. We were anxious to check out the improvements, but we're sadly disappointed. They DID upgrade the rooms to a certain extent, but increased the room charge to $100.00 + per night. They previously had a great breakfast included, along with an evening wine hour. The "breakfast" is now rolls, coffee, juice and cereal. The evening wine is restricted to one glass, closely monitored. They have a wine machine if u choose to pay an additional charge. From the increase in rates to the minimal extras, the hotel has definitely gone down hill. It's a small town with limited hotels in good locations, so you have to be content for getting price gouged for less services or go to the inner part of town and loose the waterfront charm. By the way, their reconstruction crew did a terrible job. The front door and sliders didn't work well. The sliders didn't lock, out of alignment and the entry door needed two hands to try forcing entry. Look forward to their response.

So, I walked around town by myself and explored all the hotels. I walked into this hotel and was invited to view the rooms by the owner. The minute I saw the rooms, I was in love. I booked this hotel and the Avalon Suite half a year ago. The moment my husband and I got off the boat and walked over to the hotel, the staff was amazing. An attendant saw me going up the stairs with my luggage and ran down to get my heavy luggage and carry it up the stairs for me. Check in was easy breezy. Our room was ready within minutes and we got to go into it at 11am. The Avalon suite was the room all the way down the hall on the left hand side. I believe we are one of the few rooms with an extra large jetted bathtub, the main reason why we chose this particular room at this hotel. I made sure to take photos of all the rooms the minute I walked in so I could write this review complete with photographs of the way we found it. The living room had a fireplace and a tv above the fireplace, a comfortable couch and a sofa. We had two small tables in the room. The room had excellent heating and air conditioning which we controlled at the touch of a button. We of course had a separate bathroom with jetted tub, two sinks, and a nice and large counter top. In the living room, we had another sink with a small refrigerator and two complimentary bottles of water. We had a safe next to the refrigerator which we did not use. The bathroom had a separate small room with just the toilet which we loved because after using the toilet and making a stink, we could turn on the light/ventilator which worked really well at clearing out the smell and close the door. The bedroom was a bit cramped, especially at the foot of the bed in front of the fireplace, but we had a large living room that made up for it. The bed itself was very comfortable and firm, the linens were clean. However, I got really cold on the first night I was there and had to request extra blankets which they promptly brought us. Also, the extra large pillows on the bed were extremely uncomfortable, forcing us to throw it to the side in the middle of the night. I think it's just there for decorative purposes. We found two extra regular pillows in the closet which we made good use of. The room had a small closet with plentiful hangers. There were dresser drawers we made good use of. There were two lamps, one by each side of the bed on top of a dresser with drawers. I loved the space on top of the dresser for me to place my medication and phone and watch chargers. There were plentiful chargers, USB and C type. Although the chargers on my husband's side of the bed wasn't working and I had to charge all of the electronic devices on my side. One thing about the jacuzzi tub. The wall next to it is really thick and we both had a really hard time getting into and out of it. We were both afraid of falling down and had to climb up slowing, stand on top of the little wall area, and climb into the tub and vice versa each time we used it. Other than that, I have no complaints about this hotel. The rooms are only made every third day we stay and we can tell them when is most convenient for them to do that for us. Everything else we need is brought to us by texting them. The hotel had warm Otis Spunkmeyer cookies each evening, though we only ate it one evening because we were out the other evenings. A member of the staff told me to call him so he could place the cookies in our room while we were gone, but I forgot to call each time. Someone came in our room and placed Ghirardelli chocolates with a cold bottle of water for each of us each evening we missed the cookies. Someone even came in one time and made our bed for us which was really sweet. The staff were all so wonderful and warm, making us feel right at home. And when we got tired, we sat in the chairs at the front of the hotel overlooking the beach below while sipping complementary coffee, tea, and lemon infused cold water. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend this hotel to anyone thinking of staying here.

Just a note for anyone who has mobility issues. The hotel is awesome, but note that you have to walk part way up a little hill to reach the stairs to the small lobby. There are stairs to the lobby and depending on which floor your room is located, there is no elevator, just stairs. The only suggestion I would make is in regard to the small window that is by the door connecting to the other room. The window is right by a street light. There needs to be a black out blind on that as the light shines through the shut blind The bed was extremely comfortable. The shower had wonderfully hot water with great pressure. The hair dryer was fabulous as it had power and dried the hair quickly. Often hairdryers in hotels are so lacking in power I often wonder if it is worth the effort. This one was brillant All in all a wonderful place to stay

I'm a bit of a Mt Ada regular; this was my 6th stay and, due to the rainy/windy weather, the most…read moresurreal. I stayed just after the long Valentines/Presidents Day weekend. All boats to and from Catalina Island were cancelled on 2 days of my visit, forcing other guests to change their travel plans. I ended up being the sole guest for all 3 nights of my stay here! With some whispers of Mt Ada being haunted (but not as many as Banning House Lodge in Two Harbors), I was a bit concerned, but fortunately had no paranormal experiences. To briefly review Mt Ada's history, it was once the Catalina home of William Wrigley Jr. and family, of chewing gum and Chicago Cubs fame. He was instrumental in putting Catalina "on the map", and his descendants still own the Catalina Island Company, which runs Mt Ada, Hotel Atwater, Pavilion Hotel and Banning House Lodge, as well as other businesses. All my stays at Mt Ada have been with the Company, although it was previously run as a private B&B. Mt Ada still runs as a B&B, as opposed to a hotel. It's a pricey stay but has many many perks that justify the expense. These include transportation to and from the boat or helicopter terminals, use of a golf cart throughout your stay, daily made-to-order breakfast and lunch, pre-breakfast continental breakfast, afternoon wine/cheese/charcuterie, 24-hour butler's pantry with snacks like gelato, chips, cookies and popcorn plus alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, discounts on Island Company tours and activities. Currently there are about 4 main people interacting with guests at Mt Ada, plus "behind the scenes" kitchen and housekeeping staff. My past reviews have mentioned a stay here is more like a visit to a home, as opposed to a hotel. There will be times when you may not see any staff (especially at night). But Pierre, Liz, Tim and Yoli (Yollie?) work their hardest to accommodate guest needs--they are the chauffeurs, front desk, waiters, luggage handlers, concierges, etc. I applaud them all. One of Mt Ada's pluses is its location on the hill (Mt Ada) above Avalon Bay, even above the main Bay viewpoint that all the rental golfcarts stop at (traffic jams are common here). It's quite peaceful, although in busy times the noise from "downtown" does carry uphill. Mt Ada has 6 rooms. The room I booked was the Grand Suite, Mr. Wrigley's former bedroom. It's the largest room, with a separate living and bedroom, a bathroom with a separate shower and tub, and a large terrace above the first floor terrace. It has a fireplace, as do 3 other rooms, and a raised bed that requires stairs to access, as does one other room. The living room has an antique "radio" that is seen in photos with Mr. Wrigley. There are radio stations hand-written on it; I was appalled to see "graffiti" defacing this historic relic. The terrace is fabulous, but alas the weather prohibited much use; I feared the high winds would blow the cushions on the chaise lounges over the railing. Even the dining tables on the first floor terrace were stored; in more temperate weather it's the loveliest place to enjoy breakfast or lunch. The breakfast and lunch menus have some new items and some old faves. Once again a fabulous and peaceful stay. Thanks again to all the staff. With the Pavilion Hotel reopening soon, Mt Ada may be the next property to undergo renovations. I hope it does not lose its charm or homey character.

The Queen's Aviary (Mrs. Wrigley's room!). It has a separate sitting room with two huge comfortable chairs and ottomans and an amazing view of Avalon, walk in closet, nice sized bathroom and a large bedroom (both with amazing Avalon views too!) Pierre, Tim, Liz and staff are welcoming and provide great services to make sure your stay is comfortable. The breakfasts and lunches are top notch meals: tasty, fresh, and nice presentations. Happy hour is wonderful with cheese, meats and variety of crackers, wines, beers and champagne. We can't wait to visit again SOON!

My husband and I stayed here on June 16-19, 2025. We came to the Bellanca a few years ago in Winter…read moreand loved it, loved our room, loved the hotel. We wanted the same experience and the same room. We got a Studio Suite room in the back of the hotel in the upper private area. The last time we stayed here, our room seemed bigger, and I was a bit disappointed about how small the room seemed compared to last time, but we ended up really enjoying our stay. The room was clean, although housekeeping did not clean our room the first time we asked the front desk. Before our third and final night, we went up to the front desk and told them we were extremely upset our room was not clean the day before when we had asked them to clean it so they promptly came up and cleaned our room. The linens were clean, white, and fresh and the robe was nice though short. The towels were comfy and clean and they gave us more towels when our room wasn't clean the second night we stayed after we asked them. The outside the patio was amazing. We had a gorgeous view of the city behind us and the ocean in front of us. We loved to sit outside in the comfy chairs and just soak up the view and drink coffee/tea that was provided for us with a Kuerig machine. We had plenty of free water bottles and ice and kept asking for more and more because we drink like fish and they gave it to us all for free. The room had a couch and a little table, but the table was too short for my husband to use his laptop. He said he would have liked a bigger table, but we made do with what we had. Also, there were no nightstands in the room and the closet space was very, very small, just a small wooden box in the room with only enough space to hang our jackets. There were no real drawers to place our clothes in so we left them in the luggage the entire time. The bathroom was made of beautiful Italian marble with a large bathtub that we filled to the top with warm water for our nightly bath soaks. The only thing we didn't like about the bathroom was that the toilet was right next to the wall, giving us little room to sit and do our business and the sink had no area around it to place our bathroom essentials except for a really, really small glass area above the sink to place our toothbrushes. We took really long naps while we were there with the air conditioner on full blast and really loved our bed. It was sooooo comfortable. Also, our room had a refrigerator where we placed food we bought from the market and left over food from the restaurant. We are definitely coming back again to the Bellanca hotel for a simlar Studio Suite room, hopefully next time, a bigger one light last time, but even though there were things we didn't like about this room, we may request the same room again because the view outside looking towards the ocean was amazing. Oh, and the hotel gave us two free drink vouchers worth $15 each for mixed drinks at the Naughty Fox which we used and enjoyed.

We both enjoyed our stay at the Bellanca. Our reservation was for three nights and four days and…read morethey performed maintenance efficiently.
